    Royal Enfield Cruiser 650cc Super Meteor Spied – Cruising At 130 Kmph

    Royal Enfield is planning to expand its 650cc portfolio which currently boasts Interceptor and Continental GT. The third model in this 650cc range would be the upcoming cruiser tentatively titled Super Meteor 650. Test mules of the motorcycle have been spotted on numerous occasions in recent months.
    The cruiser has been spotted testing yet again, this time near ECR in Chennai. The latest set of spy images are credited to automotive enthusiast Deepthi, who has stated that the bike was seen cruising at over 130 kmph. The spy shots present a clear image of the upcoming motorcycle sans any noticeable camouflage.
    The motorcycle was earlier reported to officially debut at the latest edition of EICMA 2021, however, that wasn’t the case. The bikemaker instead pulled off a surprise by revealing a concept prototype named SG650 which was a preview to the upcoming bobber based on the same 650cc platform. In its production form, the motorcycle could be named Shotgun.

    Coming back to Super Meteor, flaunts a typical cruiser stance with neo-retro styling elements. Some notable highlights include a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, split seats, dual exhaust in chrome finish and broad rear fenders.

    The rearview mirrors on this test mule appeared to be aftermarket units while the stock units were circular. Grab rails are integrated into back support for the pillion. Interestingly, this test mule didn’t seem to carry a front windscreen but the mounts are easily noticeable.
    Ergonomics of the upcoming cruiser are said to be relaxed with comfortable riding posture thanks to a low saddle, a wide pulled-back handlebar, and forward-set footpegs. The motorcycle could be seen riding on wire-spoked wheels as well as alloy wheels depending on the variants on offer.
    Expected Features & Specs
    On taking a closer look at its front end, we can notice a large circular dial in its instrument console accompanied by a small dial which is most likely to be the display for Tripper Navigation. Other features expected to be on offer include all-LED lighting and a USB charger.
    Royal Enfield Cruiser 650cc Spied
    Powering Super Meteor 650 will be a familiar 648cc parallel-twin, oil-cooled motor which already does duty on Interceptor and Continental GT. This unit pumps out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch. The difference between Super Meteor and the current 650 twins is that the former gets a pair of upside-down forks instead of conventional telescopic forks.
    The rear suspension comprises twin shock absorbers. Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends accompanied by a dual-channel ABS as standard. Upon launch, the 650cc cruiser could be priced around Rs 4.0 lakh (ex-showroom). More

    Royal Enfield is one of the primary Indian motorcycle brands which is popular at a global level. They have always generated high anticipation at the biennial auto event. This time too, Royal Enfield fans had their eyes glued to the onset of 2021 EICMA in Milan, Italy as there were expectations of something new.
    At the latest edition of EICMA, Royal Enfield has pulled out a surprise by revealing the SG650 Concept. The pre-production prototype previews a 650cc single-seater bobber which is likely to turn into a production model soon. The model looks slightly different from the 650cc cruiser spotted testing on Indian roads on numerous occasions previously.
    As we already know, Royal Enfield is developing multiple new models based on the 650cc platform. One of them is a 650cc cruiser motorcycle which is speculated to be named Super Meteor 650 since it will serve as an elder sibling to Meteor 350. The other model spotted in recent times is a 650cc roadster which is believed to share styling elements with Classic 350.
    Royal Enfield Shotgun SG650 – Styling
    In all probability, the SG650 Concept could give birth to the 650cc equivalent of Classic as it shares plenty of design details with the latter. The low-set and wide handlebar, centre-set footpegs and a single rider seat indicate that it mimics the styling of Classic 350. The seat wears a premium hand-stitched black leather.     Like other Royal Enfield motorcycles, SG650 gets several retro styling highlights such as a round headlamp and taillamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, bar end rearview mirrors and chunky front and rear fenders. Components such as the fuel tank and wheels have been carved out of a CNC billet machine whereas the former gets a retro-styled polished aluminum finish with digital graphics.
    Mechanical Specs & Features
    Mechanical specifications of SG650 Concept will be identical to the upcoming 650cc cruiser which will receive the same upside-down front forks and twin shock absorbers at rear. Braking duties on the motorcycle will be carried out by single disc brakes at both ends that will be aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
    Powering the SG650 bobber concept will be a 648cc parallel-twin engine which currently powers the 650 Twins- Interceptor and Continental GT. This motor kicks out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch.
    In terms of features, we expect Royal Enfield to offer a semi-digital instrument panel that comprises a Tripper Navigation pod for turn-by-turn navigation.     Back in 2018, Royal Enfield had unveiled bobber-styled Concept KX at EICMA. ‘838’ engraving on the engine indicated that the motor was of 838cc capacity. While Concept KX is not going into production stage anytime soon, its core design format will be utilized for the new 650cc cruiser from Royal Enfield. The latter has now made its global debut as SG650 at 2021 EICMA.
    After unveiling their 120th anniversary edition of Interceptor 650 and Continental GT650, Royal Enfield has now revealed an all new 650cc motorcycle concept called SG650. It is an all new motorcycle, which is likely to be transformed into a production spec bobber sometime next year.

    Royal Enfield 650cc Bobber Concept – SHOTGUN
    Retro-styled Royal Enfield 650cc bobber is equipped with features such as round headlamp, round rear-view mirrors, teardrop fuel tank design, single seat, dual exhaust and broad rear fender. Users can expect a comfortable riding stance, made possible with wide, elevated handlebar and forward-set footpegs.
    It is seen with dual instrument pods, a larger unit on the left and a smaller one on the right. The latter is Tripper navigation display unit, which was first seen with Meteor 350. It is possible that the 650cc bobber SG650 can get a new range of connectivity features. This would be expected from a premium bike that will be positioned above 650 twins in the company’s line-up.

    SG in the SG650 likely stands for Shotgun. Royal Enfield has trademarked the name Shotgun for an upcoming motorcycle. It is likely that the SG650 concept becomes Shotgun 650 upon launch. Powering the new Shotgun 650cc bobber will be the same 648cc, parallel twin motor that does duty on Interceptor and Continental GT. It makes 47 bhp at 7150 rpm and 52 Nm at 5250 rpm. It is mated to a constant mesh 6-speed gearbox.

    The engine has been designed for real world riding conditions. It suits city streets as well as effortless cruising on open roads. It is possible that the engine could be tweaked slightly on 650cc bobber to make it more suitable for long distance touring.
    While 650 twins have standard telescopic forks at front, the new 650cc cruiser is expected to get USD forks. In that case, it will be the first Royal Enfield bike to get this feature. USD forks will allow better handling and safer braking at high speeds.

    At the rear, the bike will get standard twin shock absorbers. Braking system could be the same as 650 twins – 320 mm disc at front and 240 mm at rear. Dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard. In India, Royal Enfield 650cc bobber is expected to be launched at around Rs 4 lakh (ex-sh). It will be a pretty good deal at this price point. The SG650 upon launch will also be sold in several international markets.
    Royal Enfield is also expected to launch a cruiser based on this bobber concept sometime next year. It remains to be seen the type of response the 650cc bobber cruiser generates.     Royal Enfield journey started in 1901, which is when their first motorcycle was launched. The first RE motorcycle was launched at Stanley Cycle Show in London. Today, at the EICMA 2021 show in Milan, Royal Enfield is celebrating the brand’s 120th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Royal Enfield has announced the launch of limited edition 650 Twins – Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.
    Both these motorcycles will be available in all global markets, where they are present. A total of 480 motorcycles are on offer – 120 units for each India, Europe, Americas and South-East Asia. 60 units of INT 650 and 60 units of GT 650 per region. In India, these will go on sale on 6th Dec 2021. Registrations for the sale commence today at the official website.
    Royal Enfield 650 Twins Limited Edition
    In order to make it an exclusive affair, each of these bikes will feature a unique serial number on the tank top badge indicating that it is 1 of 60 unique motorcycles in any of the four regions mentioned around the world. These motorcycles will be exclusively available for online sale in India.
    These new Royal Enfield 120th Anniversary Editions are cosmetically enhanced versions of the standard 650 Twin models but don’t receive any mechanical or feature updates. The limited-run models flaunt a special all-black paint scheme with hand-painted golden-coloured stripes on the fuel tank. Such craftsmanship is even witnessed in the company’s oldest model in production- Bullet, in its standard black variant.
    Royal Enfield 120th Anniversary Limited Edition 650 Twins Launched
    This exclusivity is further accentuated by the addition of the Royal Enfield 120th Anniversary insignia on top of the tank. The fuel tank also features specially minted brass emblems embossed on the sides made in collaboration with the ‘Sirpi Senthil’ family. The glossy finish to the panels add a nice premium appeal to the motorcycles.
    To provide a contrasting effect, Royal Enfield has blackened-out internals and mechanical components of the bikes such as engine, exhaust, front and rear suspension and handlebar with a matte treatment. The motorcycles will also be equipped with a range of genuine accessories such as flyscreens, engine guards, heel guards, touring and bar end mirrors amongst others in a black disguise to compliment the overall design.

    As previously mentioned, there will be no mechanical changes to either of the motorcycles. This means both bikes will be powered by the same 648cc parallel-twin engine that pushes out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque.This unit is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch as standard. Suspension duties are handled by conventional front forks and twin gas-charged rear shock absorbers.

    650 Twins 120th Anniversary edition details
    Special edition 650 twins get multiple cosmetic updates including a new colour theme. A new ‘120th Anniversary’ edition logo can be seen on top of the fuel tank. There’s golden pinstriping as well, which is referred to as Madras stripes. On the side of fuel tank, there’s a new round 3D badge with RE logo. These updates enhance the bike’s retro profile and provide a better connect with the brand’s glorious past.
    In terms of hardware, 650 twins 120th anniversary edition will be the same as current model. The bikes are powered by 648cc parallel twin-cylinder, air cooled engine that generates 47 hp of max power at 7150 rpm and 52.3 Nm of peak torque at 5150 rpm.     Royal Enfield 650 twins utilize a steel tubular double cradle frame with 41mm front forks and dual rear suspension. Braking duties are performed by 320 mm disc at front and 240 mm disc at rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.
    650 Twins 120th Anniversary edition India launch
    After its global unveil, 120th anniversary 650 twins are likely to be introduced in India as well. Most features will be the same as showcased at the time of global unveil. The updates are likely to push the price of the twins a bit higher. Standard 650 twins are priced in the range of Rs 2.7 lakh to Rs 3.2 lakh.
    Super Meteor 650cc cruiser
    Royal Enfield will also unveil a new 650cc cruiser at EICMA. Once launched, it will be the new flagship for the company. The bike has been spotted on road tests, which reveals that it is a perfect fit for long distance on-road touring. It will be unveiled as Super Meteor and could borrow some styling bits from Meteor 350. As for the hardware, Super Meteor will be using the same engine as 650 twins.
    The bike has a retro profile with features such as round headlamp, round rear view mirrors, and broad rear fenders. A large windscreen can be seen at front, which is both functionally and visually relevant. Users can expect comfortable rides, as the bike has forward-set footpegs and ergonomically placed handlebar.     Royal Enfield 650cc GT Modified With LED Ring, Bar-end Mirrors, Balloon Tyres

    Owing to their stunning looks, affordable pricing and relatively simple design architecture, Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 are popular among customization enthusiasts. While we have seen several mod jobs in the domestic market, the international community too has started exploring the possibilities that exist with 650 twins.
    A recent example is from Brazil, where M W Bike Customs has done a wonderful job in transforming Continental GT 650 into a sportier looking machine. This customization project features styling updates and utilizes several hand-made parts, accessories and aftermarket components.
    Key customizations
    At the front, the bike has been equipped with aftermarket LED headlamp and integrated LED DRL ring. The headlamp casing appears to be the stock unit. Rectangular stock turn indicators have been replaced with retro-styled tear-drop units. These appear to be LED units and come in a blacked out finish. The front fender has been shortened.
    In other changes, the stock twin pod instrument cluster has been replaced with a single-pod unit. It sits towards the left, which is based on the asymmetrical design theme currently gaining popularity in the automotive space. Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has a similar theme, where the primary instrument pod sits on the left. On the right, the motorcycle has the smaller Tripper navigation display screen.
    Royal Enfield Conti GT 650 Modified By M W Bike Customs
    Handlebars are the same as earlier, but stock rear view mirrors have been replaced with bar-end mirrors. Fuel tank is the same, but it gets a new coat of paint. A new logo and graphics are also part of the refreshed fuel tank.
    Side profile features custom metal sheets that enhance the bike’s rugged character. Engine assembly gets an iron-grey coating and heel plates have carbon fibre finish. At the rear, the tail section has been shortened. Seat and rear cowl look familiar, but these are customized units in smaller size.
    In terms of functionality, the customized bike has been equipped with balloon tyres at both ends. The tyres have ‘Royal Enfield‘ and ‘Cafe Racer’ printed on them in white shade. The bike continues using the stock 18-inch wheels. The modified bike can ensure comfortable rides, as stock rear suspension has been replaced with aftermarket units.
    Continental GT 650 engine
    It doesn’t seem like engine tweaks were part of this customization project. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is powered by a 648cc, parallel twin, air/oil-cooled motor. It is capable of generating 47 bhp of max power at 7150 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. The bike utilizes a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. More

    Not only in India but Royal Enfield 650cc Twins have gained a cult status in several overseas markets as well. In November last year, we had reported that the iconic motorcycle brand had launched limited edition models of Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in Italy in association with its sole distributor partner Valentino Motor Company (VMC).
    The special models were introduced to mark the company’s five years of association with VMC. Six new colour options for Interceptor and four paint schemes for Continental GT were introduced in this limited edition model. In addition to this, there are other aesthetic variations in comparison to the standard model.
    Cosmetic Upgrades
    A unit of this special edition model of Interceptor was recently caught on camera. The bike was wrapped in an elegant Green and Black dual-tone colour scheme which shone brightly under the sun.
    The other five paint schemes on offer in the limited edition Interceptor include Matte Black; Matte Bronze and Black; Matte Military Green and Black; Matte Gray and Black; and Gray and Black. Besides the unique colour schemes, the motorcycles adopt a darker theme with more premium equipment.

    For instance, all mechanical components have been blacked out including engine casing, exhaust pipe and muffler, handlebars, indicators, brake levers, gear shift pedal and headlight and taillight bezels, wrapped in a matte black scheme. All components lose out their signature chrome embellishments in order to make way for a darker tone.
    Additional Accessories on offer
    Apart from the various colouring on the motorcycle, it also comes with additional fitments such as touring bar-end rearview mirrors, a tall fly screen, fork gaiters in front suspension, aluminum engine bumpers, throttle body covers, engine crash guard, crossbar covers and matte black intake cover kit. The brake calipers dipped in red colour further add a nice sporty contrast to the bike’s overall retro appeal.
    Among other exclusive accessories, VMC is also offering Öhlins shock absorbers, Andreani Group branded fork cartridges and exhausts from Zard in these limited edition models. One can opt for Öhlins shock absorbers with multi-adjustable front cartridges from Andreani at an additional cost of 1,000 euros (INR 87k). On the other hand, the slip-on exhausts from Zard can be availed at an extra 600 euros (INR 52k).
    Engine Specs
    The special edition Interceptor 650 has been priced at 8,200 euros (INR 7.1 lakh) while the Continental GT has been priced at 8,500 euros (INR 7.36 lakh). No changes have been to their engine specifications and both motorcycles share the same heart. Both are powered by a 649cc parallel-twin motor which kicks out 47 bhp at 7250 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm.     The latest mod job is actually a paper based concept that is yet to be built. However, considering the absolute stunner revealed in the images, it would be safe to assume that orders for this mean machine will flow in pretty fast.

    Created by customization shop Neev Motorcycles, the Sultan concept appears to have a dark, brooding character. It looks deadly, merciless and unforgiving. The concept has a sharp design and utilizes a dual tone colour theme of black and dark grey.
    Some of the key features include round headlamp with colour LED lights, clip-on handle bars, LED tail light and turn signals, bar end rear view mirrors, side mounted instrument cluster, leather seat, and upswept exhaust.

    As compared to stock 41 mm front fork, modified Interceptor 650 Sultan concept utilizes USD forks. However, the stock twin coil-over shocks at the rear have been retained. The concept utilizes R17 alloy wheels with wheel cover at both front and rear, shod with tubeless tyres.

    A number of accessories and parts have been hand built such as the fenders, side panels, fuel tank detailing, two-in-one flow exhaust with protective covers, wheel covers, frame alterations, number plate assembly and instrument cluster repositioning. Components made in machine shop include sump guard / bash plate, disc brake fittings, axles, and spacers. Aftermarket components include exhaust muffler, exhaust silencer, and grips.
    This project achieves a high level of finish, made possible with powder coating, anodizing, zinc plating, chrome plating, and polishing. The paint job is also entirely new.
    Royal Enfield Sultan 650 By Neev Motorcycles
    While the Sultan concept looks absolutely stunning, it is unlikely to come cheap. A number of customized and aftermarket components will have to be used, which is bound to increase the overall cost of this customization project. One also has to ascertain if this modification project would be approved by RTO. If not, the Sultan will only work as a collector’s item for enthusiasts.
    Practicality is another thing that needs to be considered for such extensive customization projects. How the modified motorcycle will perform in the real world would be difficult to judge just by looking at the pictures.
    However, if we were to assess this project solely for its design and styling, it easily qualifies as one of the best we have ever come across. It’s one of those amazing ideas that deserves to be born. More
