Lot of Royal Enfield owners love aftermarket customisation. This has resulted in RE having a dedicated division that looks to tap into all beautifully developed custom motorcycles. The Chennai-based bikemaker even invites designers and modifiers to showcase their skills on a Royal Enfield bike and etch their names in the global motoring world.
Recently, the company commissioned a custom-built Continental GT 650 race bike made by Crazy Garage in South Korea. It has been personally built by the founder of Crazy Garage, Kim Chi-Hyun, who is renowned for his race-inspired customs and has made a name for himself in the west too.

His skills caught the attention of Royal Enfield’s head office, who asked him to build this GT 650. Aditya Malaker, who is part of Royal Enfield’s custom program team said that they have been closely watching Crazy Garage for some time now.
Chin-hyun already has made a custom GT 650 to race but this new bike is a whole new beast altogether. Re-christened ‘GT 650 RS’, this Continental GT 650 is one of the most heavily modified Royal Enfield bikes we have come across.

Overall styling of GT 650 RS reminds us of the glory days of AMA superbike racing of the 1980s before fairing became the standard norm in motorsport. When Royal Enfield contacted Chin-Hyun, he was asked to build a custom motorcycle that is unique in style and yet keeps the original DNA of Continental GT which is ready to hit the tracks. Apart from the engine, which has seen a fair share of mods itself, it is safe to say none of the components have been carried over from the donor bike.
Customised Design & Hardware
All parts are custom-built starting from the handlebar, frame, a single-piece stepped-up seat, etc. It gets custom free-flowing dual exhaust pipes on the same side. Being a track-focused bike, ABS and all extravagant electronics have been removed.
It gets a simple instrument cluster consisting of a STACK analogue racing tachometer and a Yoshimura digital temperature gauge. A Lithium-ion battery has been used to supply energy to a small halogen headlight, LED taillamp and the starter motor.

The most significant mod job is the new custom fuel tank which has to be hidden underneath the seat. It has been made from thin-gauge steel and installed on a new fiber-reinforced plastic tail section that has been welded to the modified rear frame.
It is evident that focus has been laid on functionality instead of looks. Its hardware wears a completely different look with the custom-built frame suspended on Custom 43 USD forks at front and a TTX mono-shock at rear from Öhlins.

The rear shock absorber is now attached to a single-sided swingarm borrowed from a 90s Honda VFR400R. Anchorage is taken care of by a Brembo system at front consisting of calipers, new rotors and an RCS master cylinder. Custom carbon ducts have been incorporated to keep the discs cool under pressure.
Powertrain Customisation
The primary customisation has been made to its heart which comprises new cycle parts such as a hot camshaft, high compression pistons and a heavy-duty clutch. Fueling is managed by a Dynojet Power Commander that compensates for the absence of an airbox. Its oil cooler has been repositioned to the front of the motorcycle in-line with other race-spec bikes.
All these modifications must have surely amplified the engine’s output quite a notches higher, although exact figures haven’t been revealed. For reference, Continental GT 650 gets a 648cc parallel-twin motor which cranks out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque.

Royal Enfield bikes and aftermarket customisation go hand in hand. The versatility in architecture and simplistic stock design are the prime reasons for the brand’s popularity in the aftermarket industry. Not just in India, Royal Enfield has earned its reputation as a friendly customisable brand of motorcycles in overseas markets as well.
The latest example of RE Interceptor 650 is also one such case that comes from shores far away. Named Project Serum, this Interceptor has been modified into an attractive cafe racer by a Philippines-based automotive workshop called MoTeycycle Garage.
Design Updates
In terms of its design, the modified Interceptor 650 takes certain cues from its twin sibling Continental GT 650 as it itself sports a cafe racer styling. This includes a single-piece seat curved at the pillion’s end and a clip-on handlebar.
It receives a new round headlight wrapped by a fighter-jet inspired cowl. Stock turn indicators have been replaced by smaller LED turn indicators. The motorcycle now gets a custom paint job covering the bike in black and grey with ‘Royal Enfield’ branding on the fuel tank.

Furthermore, the engine assembly too gets a new paint job with a darkish grey finish, which looks stylish. Two exhaust pipes protrude out of the engine head, however, unlike the stock Interceptor 650, this one gets dual exhaust pipes on the same side.
The tail section of the motorcycle has been chopped off with new LED turn indicators at rear. Footpegs have been painted in black although their positioning remains same.
Other aftermarket components include blacked-out rear shock absorbers and fork gaiters at front. It rides on custom-built wire-spoked wheels with white rims wrapped around by block-pattern tyres. Features such as brakes and instrument console have been left untouched. Overall, the modification looks quite tasteful.

Mechanical Specs
No tinkering has been done to the bike’s mechanical configurations. It is powered by a 648cc air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine which returns an output of 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque. This unit comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. It is based on a Steel tubular double cradle while suspension duties are handled by conventional telescopic forks and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at rear.
Royal Enfield is currently planning to give a mild update to both its 650cc Twins in the near future. Test mules of Continental GT have also been spotted on numerous occasions in recent times. The update, however, is expected to be on cosmetic lines mostly. More

2021 Royal Enfield 650 Twins Colours
An update from Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 is on the cards which are expected to be launched sometime later this year

At the end of last year, Royal Enfield made its intentions clear that from here on we will see many new and updated products from the bikemaker for the next seven years or so. It started with the new Meteor 350 and continued with the updated Himalayan earlier this year.
While there are plenty of upcoming motorcycles in the brand’s scheme of things, exact launch timeline of these products is still very much unknown. Plenty of testing prototypes from the Chennai-based manufacturer have been spotted on roads in recent months. This clearly suggests that the company’s R&D currently has its hands full.
Amidst all this, new details have emerged online which might excite Royal Enfield fans. New colour options for the 650cc Twins- Interceptor and Continental GT have leaked on the internet which indicates that the modern classic roadsters might be given a mild-facelift soon.
This is further established by the fact that the latter was recently spotted testing earlier this year. Both bikes made their debut in 2018 and with almost three years in the market, an update shall benefit the brand.

Updates Expected
Although we believe that this update will mostly be cosmetic and in line with the updated Himalayan rather than a major makeover. This includes new colour schemes and subtle variations in styling. The manufacturer might also take the opportunity to rectify certain ergonomics issues on both the motorcycles which hamper the riding experience.
Although, the biggest update expected is the addition of the Tripper Navigation which displays turn-by-turn navigation on the instrument cluster when paired with the Royal Enfield App on one’s smartphone via Bluetooth. This feature made its first appearance in Meteor 350 and later in the updated Himalayan.
New Colour Options
Coming back to the colour options leaked, the images show several new paint schemes on both motorcycles. These colour schemes resemble the options available on the 650cc Twins in the Italian market which launched in November last year.
From the images, we see Interceptor with seven new colour options out of which Orange Crush, Glitter and Dust and Baker Express are already on offer in India. On the other hand, Continental GT is shown in five colour options including British Racing Lean, GT Red, Venture Black and Blue, Cookies and Cream and Mister Clean. Out of these, the last option is already on offer.
Engine Specs
Mechanically both bikes are identical. Both draw their power from a 648cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine which puts out 47 bhp at 7150 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. The modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 gets carbon fiber panels, a bigbore kit and a lot more

With their simple mechanical and electronic architectures, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 have quickly established themselves as modifiers’ delight. Since their global debut we have come across numerous tastefully modified RE 650s but this one, executed by UK-based Partridge Design, is one of the sharpest we have seen.
Modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Conceived and executed by Anthony Partridge who co-hosts Goblin Works Garage show on Discovery Channel, this modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 came with a simple brief from RE’s head of industrial design Adrian Sellers – “to build a thoroughbred racer”. That is exactly what Anthony set out to build.
The end result is a sharp looking racing equipment swathed in exotic carbon fiber elements which hardly has anything in common with the stock Continental GT 650. However, the modified bodykit is designed with the help of 3D printing technology to be able to fit a stock motorcycle quickly and easily. So, it is not just a one-off project for a TV show but it is also a commercially available kit any Conti 650 owner could purchase.
Custom parts
Forming the centerpiece of the race bike’s styling is its carbon-fiber fuel tank which was custom made by GIA Engineering. The Racefit fuel filler cap is an art in itself. The custom swing arm was also GIA’s handwork. The custom motorcycle is suspended by premium Ohlins FGR300 inverted telescopic forks at the front and Ohlins TTX GP Pro monoshock at the rear.
Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Modified
The modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 boasts of Moto GP-like quick-release axles which hold BST carbon fiber wheels. The tyres are Dunlop Sportmax GPA units. Braking is taken care of by Galfer discs with nickel plated Brembo calipers, Venhill brake lines and Magura front master cylinder. Magura also supplied the racer’s hydraulic clutch system.
The motorcycle also gets a new rear sub-frame, complete with a fresh carbon fiber tailpiece. Some tweaks were made to the frame so as to accommodate wider rear wheel. Other noteworthy items on the motorcycle include Motogadget electronic elements, Rizoma clip-on handlebar, foot pegs, mirrors and turn indicators, Highsider LED headlamp, Reese Racing switch gear and Antigravity lithium-ion battery.
The engine
Powering this modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a modified 750 cc engine with S&S Cycle bigbore kit with custom power commander, foam filter and a hand-made exhaust system. Power and torque figures are not being discussed but it is definitely well over the stock motorcycle’s hp and Nm respectively.
Partridge Design pitted its creation against the stock motorcycle on a test track under icy conditions. Not surprisingly, it was observed that the custom GT 650 was much faster, sharper and more fun to ride than what rolls off RE’s assembly line.

Royal Enfield 650 cruiser
Currently in the advanced phase of testing, the Royal Enfield 650 cruiser will take on the likes of Kawasaki Vulcan 650, Honda Rebel, etc., on the global stage. The low-rider was first previewed at EICMA show in Milan back in 2018. Going by the prototypes that were spotted recently, the production version sports a significantly toned down design but the fuel tank could be a make shift unit.
Royal Enfield is expected to offer the new flagship cruiser will an array of interesting colour themes. We already have presented you with range of palettes before and now here is the second lot. The motorcycle certainly would look good in unconventional color themes of mild orange, yellow, maroon and purple.

Specifications
The specifications are still under wraps. While presenting the concept, RE hinted that the cruiser, if produced, would feature a twin-cylinder engine with displacement of around 830 cc. However, the prototypes appear to be sporting the existing 650 Twin motor that has received widespread appreciation for its refinement and performance.
On board the Interceptor and Continental GT, the air-cooled V-twin motor displacing 648 cc produces 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque. The 6-speed transmission is likely to be tweaked for relaxed highway touring.
The motorcycle is suspended by inverted telescopic forks at the front, a first for a modern RE. The rear suspension is composed of traditional twin shock absorbers. Alloy wheels, thick tyres and dics brakes at either end are standard. The motorcycle will also be equipped with standard dual-channel ABS.

Keeping up with the connectivity trend, we expect the upcoming Royal Enfield 650 cruiser to offer Bluetooth enabled smartphone connectivity for music and navigation.
Launch and price
The yet-to-be-named Royal Enfield 650 cruiser is expected to be launched in India sometime in the middle of next year. We estimate the price to undercut INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom). The new product will be important for the brand in export markets where it is likely to undercut all its primary rivals.
