A chunk that India’s biggest 2W manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is eyeing with a new 440cc bike.Hero Classic 350 Rival Launch Soon?Joining the long line of Classic 350 rivals is Hero MotoCorp. The line consists of Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles, Honda CB350 lineup, Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400. Hero’s new Classic 350 rival will share the same 440cc platform that was co-developed with Harley-Davidson and seen on X440.There may be a small difference in engine tuning to place Harley-Davidson X440 as the more premium and performant machine than Hero’s offering. This should allow Hero MotoCorp to undercut X440 and most of its rivals by a large margin. Hero’s production capacity is among the largest in the world and with that, the company might establish an aggressive price point.Considering X440 is already a retro-style motorcycle, we expect Hero to position its motorcycle slightly differently. We’re talking about slightly toned-down design attributes and fancy finishes for sheet metal. Probably cut down on a few features too. In comparison, Harley-Davidson X440 costs Rs. 2,39,500 (ex-sh) for base Denim variant and goes till Rs. 2,79,500 for S variant with alloy wheels and connectivity suite.Performance metrics of Hero Hurikan 440 might be slightly lower than that of Harley-Davidson X440. For context, X440 has 27 bhp of peak power and 38 Nm of peak torque. Hurikan 440 will continue to get a 6-speed transmission with different gearing than X440. This was a volume growth of 1,00,118 units. Improvement was seen both across motorcycle and scooter segments and where the company’s domestic sales and exports were concerned.Hero MotoCorp Sales Nov 2023Motorcycle sales grew by 25.07 percent YoY to 4,41,276 units last month, up from 3,52,834 units sold in November 2023. Motorcycle sales fell by 16.64 percent from 5,29,341 units sold in October 2023 while scooter sales grew by 9.18 percent MoM from 45,589 units in October 2023 to 49,774 units in the past month.Sales in domestic markets dipped by 14.91 percent to 4,76,286 units in November 2023 from 5,59,766 units sold in October 2023. Exports also suffered a de-growth by 2.64 percent from 15,164 units shipped in October 2023 down to 14,764 units.YTD Sales April-November 2023The period Apr-Nov 2023 showed positive sales for Hero MotoCorp in domestic markets while exports suffered a setback. Total sales grew by 4.67 percent to 38,35,080 units, up from 36,63,875 units sold in the Apr-Nov 2022 period. This was a volume growth of 1,71,205 units.Motorcycle sales were up 3.79 percent to 35,40,305 units in Apr-Nov 2023 from 34,11,019 units sold in Apr-Nov 2022 while commanding a 92.31 percent share. These included the Xoom 160 and 125, 125R Scooters and Vida electric concepts. Hero MotoCorp domestic sales in the month of October 2023 stood at 5,56,894 units. This was a 25.77 percent growth over 4,42,798 units sold in October 2022 relating to a 1,14,096 unit volume growth.The automaker also posted a MoM improvement from 5,19,759 units sold in September 2023. Topping the domestic sales charts was the Hero Splendor. Sales grew by 18.70 percent YoY to 3,10,671 units, up from 2,61,721 units sold in October 2022 to command a 55.79 percent share in the company portfolio.Hero Splendor was also the best-selling motorcycle in India last month, with sales figures way ahead of both Honda Shine and Bajaj Pulsar. It was followed by HF Deluxe with 1,17,719 units sold in the past month, up 50.77 percent from 78,076 units sold in October 2022. It was the Passion that followed at No. 3 with 40,759 units sold in October 2023, up 27.52 percent from 31,964 units sold in October 2022.Hero Sales Breakup October 2023 – DomesticGlamour sales also grew on a YoY basis by 32.26 percent to 37,476 units in the past month from 28,335 units sold in October 2022 while Destini 125 scooter saw higher sales by 18.06 percent to 17,425 units from 14,759 units sold in the same month last year. The Destini was also on the list of top 10 scooter sales last month featuring at No. 9.Xpulse 200 ADV saw 12.62% declineHero Pleasure sales dipped by 27.83 percent down to 10,773 units from 14,927 units sold in October 2022. There were 10,610 units of the Xoom sold last month. Sales of the Hero Xtreme 160/200 also saw sales fall by 13.61 percent YoY to 4,461 units from 5,164 units sold in October 2022. However, the Xtreme scored high on the list of 150-200cc motorcycle sales list at No. 8 ahead of Honda Hornet 2.0 and KTM 200.There we 3,840 units of the Hero Vida sold last month relating to a 191900 percentage growth from just 2 units sold in October 2022. Exports stood at 15,163 units, up from 11,757 units shipped in October 2022. In global markets, it was the Hero Hunk that garnered the most attention with 3,471 units exported last month, up 28.03 percent YoY from 2,711 units sold in October 2022.The Hunk currently commands a 22.89 percent share on the export list. Exports also grew for the HF Deluxe (3,010 units) and Maestro (2,660 units), while exports of the Hero Glamour dipped by 5.44 percent to 2,192 units in the past month from 2,318 units sold in October 2022.Hero Xpulse 200 exports went up by 61.78 percent YoY to 1,964 units in October 2023 from 1,214 units shipped in October 2022 while that of Splendor improved by 30.34 percent to 1,856 units whereas there had been 1,424 units shipped in October 2022. But the company continues to be on the offensive by launching new products and features at regular intervals. As part of that plan, Hero will soon launch the Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 scooters.Hero Xoom 125R, Xoom 160 detailed in TVCHero Xoom 125R will primarily take on TVS Ntorq. The scooter has a distinctive profile and not a copy of Xoom 110cc. It is probably being positioned as the sportiest scooter in 125cc segment. To make it work, an entirely new design format has been used. Some of the key features include a majestic, multi-layered front fascia, full-width headlamp, eye-catchy handlebar cowl, wide shoulders, muscular side panels and sporty upswept exhaust.With 14-inch wheels, the scooter has a tall profile and can easily tackle rough road conditions. Its aerodynamic design will allow riders to breeze through urban streets. Seats are wide and comfy and there’s ample space in the floorboard area. For folks looking to add some style to their daily commutes, Hero Xoom 125R seems to be an appropriate option.Talking about Xoom 160, it will be Hero’s new flagship when launched. The maxi scooter is designed as a versatile machine that’s good for urban streets as well as some mild off-road explorations beyond city limits. Some of the key highlights include a signature front beak, dual headlamp setup, large windscreen, sharp body panelling and upswept exhaust. There’s a dedicated rear rack for a top box. With its aggressive design, Hero has chosen to call it a ‘SUV of 2-wheelers’. Xoom 160 will primarily rival the likes of Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SXR 160.Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 specs, performanceHero Xoom 125R will be using a slightly detuned version of the 125cc engine in use with Maestro Edge 125 and Destini 125. Onboard the Xoom 125R, the air cooled, single-cylinder engine churns out 9.37 bhp of max power and 10.14 Nm of peak torque. Xoom 160 has a 156cc liquid cooled engine. It is different from the engine currently in use with Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. Power and torque numbers of the new engine are yet to be revealed. The scooter will have i3S and ABS.Both Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 will have digital instrumentation. A range of connectivity features will be available via Hero Connect App. It will include geofencing, live tracking, remote immobilization, battery removal alert, location sharing, accident and topple alert, speed alert and SOS alert (panic button).
