      BMW G 310 RR China Launch Soon – Will Be Exported From India

With the G 310 RR, BMW has expanded its popular 310cc portfolio to new heights while reaching new customers in a significantly lower price bracket than their indigenous products.BMW Motorrad has sold 50,000 units of their 310cc range globally, of which 15,000 units are clocked from India alone – making it their biggest 310cc market. China comes next with 6,000 unit sales. To improve sales further, BMW is going to launch the G 310 RR in China.BMW G310RR Export to ChinaChina is an important market for BMW Motorrad. G 310 RR is expected to do really well in Dragon land. But the BMW G310RR is manufactured here in India by TVS in Hosur plant, Chennai as part of a collaboration between the two.2022 BMW G310RR India LaunchMarkus Mueller-Zambre, head of Asia, China, Pacific and Africa region at BMW Motorrad, said that BMW G 310 RR exports from India will start with the Chinese market. China is the second market where the baby RR will be launched after India, as it is manufactured here. The China launch will happen in the coming months. He also added that BMW G 310 RR will only be manufactured in India at TVS manufacturing facility and the bikes sold in China will be exported from Chennai.Specs & CompetitionAs BMW G310RR is just a rebranded TVS Apache RR 310, all the dimensions remain the same too. It measures 2,001 mm in length, 786 mm in width, 1,135 mm in height and has a 1,365 mm long wheelbase. It tips the scale at 174 kg and has a relatively accessible 810 mm seat height.In terms of performance, it puts out 33.52 bhp of power at 9,700 RPM and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7,700 RPM. It gets a 300 mm disc at front and a 240 mm disc at the rear connected by a dual-channel ABS system. Both BMW and TVS get USD forks at front finished in gold colour and a mono-shock at the rear. But it is the TVS Apache RR 310 that gets an option to upgrade to fully adjustable front and rear suspension by WP. This upgrade, along with others, are offered under TVS’ brilliant BTO packages.BMW G310RR competes against KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and TVS Apache RR 310 in India. In China, KTM still puts up a tough fight against BMW’s new baby RR. As KTM products are licensed to manufacture by CF Moto, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturing giant, in China and products like RC 390 exist. It would be interesting to see how many G 310 RR will be exported to China from India in Q2 of 2023. BMW CE 04 has a really long wheelbase with a low ground clearance which might be a recipe for disaster for Indian roads with giant and vastly illogical speed breakers.The front windshield finished in funky orange, looks purely aesthetic and might not deflect any wind. The seats look very eye-catching and at the same time, very uncomfortable. The rider’s triangle looks very comfortable though. Sticking with the maxi-styled design, it is not a step-through scooter as the central tunnel is stuffed with batteries.BMW Electric Scooter CE 04Speaking of batteries, it has an 8.9 kWh battery pack which is more than twice as much as an Ola S1 Pro. This battery pack is essentially one module out of 11 modules found on BMW’s iX electric SUVs. Instead of designing new EV components, BMW is reusing what they already have – parts sharing is the mantra. The motor makes 42 bhp and 62 Nm and is precisely a 1/3rd section of the motor that powers BMW X1 PHEV SUV. Also, it has a 10.25” horizontal screen for instrumentation, like we have seen on BMW cars.Price & LaunchOther components include front 35mm telescopic front forks and rear off-set mono-shock mounted on a single-sided swingarm, dual disc setup at front, and single disc setup at the rear with dual-channel ABS, belt-drive and more. It is capable of 120 kph top speed and 130 km of range from a single charge and weighs a whopping 231 kg. Yikes!BMW Electric Scooter costs $11,795 (approx Rs. 9.50 lakh) for the base model and $14,180 (approx Rs. 11.42 lakh) for the top-spec variant (both prices ex-sh) in global markets. Going by import trends in India, we will get the top-spec variant and due to Indian import duties and taxes, we can see a hefty price tag of Rs. 15 lakh to 18 lakh. You can buy an imported Hayabusa for that price in India. Heck, you can even buy the newly launched Tata Nexon EV Max, for this price.New BMW Electric ScooterIf launched, BMW won’t be pitting it for regular EV buyers at all. This is for the uber-rich Indians that want to make a statement with a niche product. Looking at it from that perspective, this is an absolute gem as an expensive collection in their garage. Because it looks like a concept vehicle that one can actually buy and it doesn’t get better than that.For the mass market segment, BMW does have plans to launch entry level electric vehicles, in partnership with TVS. If you ask us, it is not a bad thing as TVS Apache RR 310 was a banger, to begin with. Priced at Rs. 2.85 lakh (ex-sh), BMW G310RR competes with KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR 310 and Kawasaki Ninja 300.But the Rs. 20,000 increment for the BMW badge is a little illogical. Especially when the same Rs. 20,000 can be spent on TVS’ brilliant BTO packages that gets fully adjustable front USD forks and rear monoshock from KYB. This adjustable suspension has been completely given a miss by BMW. The German brand has in fact deleted some TVS exclusive features that worked only through their proprietary software like SmartXonnect. You name it, they have it.What about budget entry-level motorcycles? Well, they’ve got that covered too. To expand their motorcycle envelope and cater to a wider range of audiences across a wider price spectrum, BMW partnered up with TVS Motors. Together, they developed a potent 313cc single-cylinder engine and platform on which both manufacturers have based their motorcycles. 2 such motorcycles by BMW are G 310 R and G 310 GS. They will launch a new one later this month called G 310 RR, more on that later.2023 BMW G 310 R New ColoursKicking things off with the street naked G 310 R, it used to come with two shades namely, Cyanite Blue Metallic and Limestone Metallic. But the German motorcycle manufacturer has discontinued both these colour options. Replacing the Cyanite Blue Metallic, we have Passion Racing Red. And replacing Limestone Metallic, we have Sport Polar White / Racing Blue Metallic.Red comes off as the more striking of the two. It gets a red trellis frame, mostly red fuel tank, red front mudguard and red wheels. BMW has added a touch of white to the headlight cowl and ‘R’ livery on the fuel tank. It gets a blacked-out engine bay, engine guard and gets the typical BMW gold front forks. Sport Polar White / Racing Blue Metallic is the subtler of the two. It also gets a red trellis frame and red wheels. But the splash of red on Passion Racing Red is replaced by white and the white on that model is replaced with metallic blue. The R livery is finished in red though.2023 BMW G 310 R New Colour LaunchBMW G 310 GS New Paint SchemesBMW has added a new version of its G 310 GS namely Basic Cosimic Black 3 in place of Polar White that it used to get before. It is the subtlest of the 3 new colour shades BMW G 310 GS received. It has a black trellis frame, a gloss black finish on top of the fuel tank and top of the fairing, and black wheels. Basically, everything else is black too except for the silver finish on the rear subframe body panels and fairing extensions covering the gold front USD forks.2023 BMW G 310 GS New Colour LaunchSport Polar White / Racing Blue Metallic is another style and it replaces the Triple Black option. It gets a trellis frame finished in red, top of the tank and fairing is now blue with the rest of the tank finished in white. Other elements remain similar to Basic Cosimic Black 3.Replacing Cyanite Blue Metallic is Rallye Kalamata Metallic Matt. It also gets a red trellis frame, but the top of the fuel tank and fairing now gets a dark golden shade that looks very subtle. Earlier teasers posted by the company indicated that the bike will be getting fully-adjustable suspension setup. But the teaser shared today, misses out on adjustable front suspension. Is BMW planning on offering multiple variants? One with adjustable suspension and one without?Adjustable suspension option helps rider to tune the motorcycle in a more friendly manner. Based on riding style and terrain, the user will be able to adjust the firmness and flexibility of the suspension system.BMW G310RR adjustable suspension?Earlier teaser revealed adjustable knobs on fork tops, which are similar to the ones offered with Built to order (BTO) version of TVS Apache RR310. It is possible that other features too that are offered with RR310 BTO may be available as standard with G310RR. This will work as a means of differentiation and justify G310RR’s premium profile and pricing.Suspension is likely to be the same as that used with Apache RR310 BTO. For example, the Dynamic Kit comprises fully-adjustable KYB front suspension. It has 15mm of preload adjustability and 20 sets of damping. Rear monoshock KYB suspension is also fully adjustable with 10 steps of preload adjustment and 20 sets of damping. RR310 top speed is 160 kmph and it can reach 0-100 kmph in 7.17 seconds.2022 BMW G 310 RR – RenderAs compared to Apache RR310 that has Michelin Road 5 tyres, BMW has chosen to stick with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres for G310RR. Another difference is conventional disc brakes, as compared to petal discs used with Apache RR310. It will be based on the same 313cc engine and platform that currently underpins G 310 R naked street fighter and G 310 GS adventure tourer. Official bookings for the upcoming sports bike are open through the company’s official website.From the teasers, it is clear that BMW is headed the TVS way since the latter already offers its flagship model based on the same platform. Hence, it has been predicted that the upcoming G 310 RR will borrow some inspiration from TVS Apache RR 310.BMW G 310 RR Fully Faired – RenderBased on official teasers, a digital illustration of the upcoming BMW G 310 RR has been created. As expected, the overall silhouette of the fully-faired sports bike by the German marque is starkly similar to its Indian cousin. Although there are a few subtle variations to distinguish between the two models.In this rendition, the designer has employed more cuts and creases around the headlight assembly, something that isn’t seen in Apache. The twin-pod headlight itself appears to be a different unit from the one seen in the flagship TVS. The rendered bike seen in this image is wrapped under the traditional BMW HP-livery with red and blue accents over a white base. Another colour option for BMW G 310 RR is black in matte finish.2022 BMW G 310 RR Black – RenderThe side fairing also features snazzy graphics with the word ‘Race’ written after its name. Reports have mentioned that there will be another all-black colour option on offer with G 310 RR. The visor shown on this Bavarian derivative of sports bike is slightly different from the one seen in Apache RR 310 although the fuel tank seen in this digital illustration is almost identical to the latter.Other prominent visual highlights seen in this digital rendition are split-style seats with a raised tail section, 5-spoke alloy wheels with black rims, a race-spec red trellis frame and a stubby side-on exhaust canister. Taillight assembly also appears to be slightly different from the one offered in Apache.Expected Mechanical SpecsCycle parts of the upcoming Beemer are expected to be mostly similar to Apache RR 310 barring a few variations. For instance, BMW has used a conventional front disc brake in G 310 RR instead of the petal-shaped rotors seen in Apache. Apart from differences in design, size of discs will probably remain unchanged with a 300mm rotor at front and a 240mm unit at rear.Another important highlight is the addition of adjustable front USD suspension which is seen in the more advanced Apache RR 310 BTO (Built To Order).
