Yamaha R7 And R3 Spied At MMRT, Chennai – TVC Shoot Before Launch?

Yamaha R7 spotted at MMRT for TVCYamaha R7 and R3 TVC shoots seem to have commenced at MMRT, Chennai – Launch is likely to be in the near futureAfter a long absence in multi-cylinder motorcycle space, Team Blue is getting ready to make a grand entry. As of now, the company’s flagship in India is R15M, which is a single-cylinder 150cc motorcycle. Not very befitting of Yamaha’s name, is it? That will change soon and Yamaha’s flagship in India will be either MT-09 or YZF-R7.Along with that, Yamaha is also keen on bringing its R3 back to India. This has by far the most anticipation and is likely to be Yamaha’s best-selling multi-cylinder motorcycle. Both R7 and R3 seem to have finished their respective TVC shoot at MMRT Chennai. This should mean that a launch is imminent.2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonYamaha R7 and R3 TVC shoot at MMRT, ChennaiTeam Blue showcased a multitude of new multi-cylinder motorcycles to dealers at a private event. New colours and finishes for R15, Aerox 155 and MT-15 were present too. Among these, primary interests revolved around Yamaha R7 and R3 fully faired motorcycles and MT-03 street fighter.Other showcases include MT-07 and MT-09 and we wouldn’t break a sweat if both these motorcycles never get launched in India. But MT-03, R3 and R7 seem to be of primary importance. Now, Torque_TV recently posted about Yamaha R7 and R3 undergoing TVC shoot at MMRT, Chennai.Yamaha R7 and R3They managed to click a picture of R7 at MMRT, but not other motorcycles like R3. There is no news about MT-03, though. That said, they could be brought in at a later date. Speaking of bringing in, all these motorcycles are likely to be CBU, so prices associated with them will be higher. We hope at least R3 and MT-03 are brought via CKD route. What do they pack below their fuel tank?Yamaha R7 is the spiritual successor of the renowned R6, minus two cylinders. R7 gets a parallel-twin engine displacing 689cc. This engine makes 73.4 PS of power at 8,750 RPM and 67 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. A 6-speed transmission is standard. It gets a dual 298mm disc at front and 245mm rear disc, dual-channel ABS, USD front forks, rear mono-shock, 120/70-17M front and 180/55-17M rear tyres, 14L fuel tank, and weighs 188 kg.Both R7 and MT-07 share these features and powertrain. R3 and MT-03 will share powertrains too. They get a 321cc parallel-twin engine making 42 PS of power at 10750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM. 6-speed transmission is standard too.It gets a diamond frame chassis, 37mm USD front forks with 130mm travel and rear mono-shock with 120mm travel, 298mm single front disc and 220mm rear disc brake setup, dual-channel ABS, 110/70-17M front and 140/70-17M rear tyres and more. With 14L fuel in the tank, R3 will weigh 169 kg, while MT-03 weighs 168 kg. With TVC shoot supposedly done, launch is likely soon.Source More

New Yamaha RX To Have An Engine Bigger Than 200cc

Image – EIMOR CustomsThe company Chairman Eishin Chihana has revealed that new Yamaha RX bike will have the right design, performance and lightweight character as OG RX100For a long time, Yamaha has distanced itself from budget commuter motorcycles and scooters. In this sense, it has positioned itself as a premium 2W maker. And this has been their strategy for years. In the earlier years, Yamaha made a significant impact on Indian commuter space with the iconic RX100 motorcycle. The 2-stroke engine goodness along with its iconic sound (some might digress) and explosive performance had set it apart and rivalled the likes from Royal Enfield, Hero Honda CD100, Suzuki Samurai, Bajaj Boxer and more. Now, Yamaha intends to bring back its icon into the modern era with a 200cc+ engine. Let’s take a look.New Yamaha RX bike – Not a 100cc anymoreYamaha India Chairman Eishin Chihana has previously confirmed the RX100 moniker will come back, but not planned for until 2026 or beyond. Given the current stringent BS6 P2 emission norms and upcoming future norms, a 2-stroke engine will never cut it and a 100cc 4-stroke engine will never match OG RX100’s explosive performance.Recently, he expressed that the RX100’s charm was its styling, light weight, power and sound. Achieving all four attributes in a 4-stroke engine requires a minimum of 200cc. He further said even the larger 200cc engine can’t produce the RX100’s great sound.Old gen Yamaha RX100Yamaha Chairman further said the company does not intend to ruin the RX100 brand. A new motorcycle bearing RX name will have high-performance, lightweight and right styling. And Yamaha’s 155cc engine is not enough to achieve this. When will it arrive? To answer this question is slightly difficult. Previously, Eishin had revealed that the company is committed to bringing multiple new offerings till 2026 and only then, can they think of launching a new Yamaha RX bike with a 200cc+ engine. Launch timeline can go well beyond that as well. This way Yamaha will do justice for the RX brand and captivate the essence that made RX100 in the past. Launching any motorcycle with RX badge slapped on it would turn disastrous for the OG RX100’s image of a lightweight and high-performance motorcycle. If it is a 200cc+, we hope it is a 250cc or even a 350cc, for that matter. Also, Indian motorcycling enthusiasts would want the re-launch of the RD brand as well. Yamaha India, are you listening? Because this is a successor of a retro motorcycle, it will rival other classic motorcycles from Royal Enfield, Jawa, Yezdi and Honda. We wish Hero MotoCorp was in the line to target Royal Enfield as well. With iconic CD100’s square headlight of course.Source More

Yamaha Neo’s Electric Scooter Plan Shelved – India To Get New Premium EV

2023 Yamaha Neo’s Electric ScooterWith most EV users prioritizing cost per km, it has become challenging for established ICE players to integrate traditional brand values in their electric productsElectric-two-wheeler segment in India has been registering robust growth month after month. However, ICE-based OEMs like Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Royal Enfield are yet to foray in this space. Clearly, a sense of urgency seems to be missing, as generally seen with startups in EV segment.Talking about Yamaha specifically, the company was planning to bring its Neo’s electric scooter to India. This was confirmed around a year back by Eishin Chihana, chairman of Yamaha India. However, things have changed since then. Yamaha’s entry into EV space in India has been further delayed by around 2 to 3 years.Yamaha working on new premium EVDiscontinuation of Neo’s India launch plans is quite disheartening for Yamaha enthusiasts who were eagerly waiting to see their favourite brand in electric format. However, Yamaha has assured that they are working on a new premium EV for Indian market. This will be a performance-oriented electric machine, much better and capable than Neo’s. It’s just that users will have to wait patiently for 2-3 years to see this new Yamaha EV in action. There are specific reasons why Neo’s launch plan in India has been shelved. Firstly, the immediate ecosystem has changed dramatically with things like reduction in subsidies and newer regulatory policies. Moreover, Yamaha has realized that the purpose of buying an EV in India is different from that of other markets.2023 Yamaha Neo’s Electric ScooterFor example, people in Europe buy EV scooters, as they feel motivated to do their bit for the environment. In India, most users buy EVs with the goal to reduce running costs. This is due to an increase in petrol prices. In comparison, Yamaha’s existing ICE customer base focuses on other aspects such as style, aspirational value and performance. This is why Yamaha is working on a new premium EV for India. It will be sporty, stylish and exciting, a perfect match with brand Yamaha. Not chasing volumesWith its new premium EV for India, Yamaha will cater to a niche target audience. The new EV will be meant for folks who are looking for something truly unique. Yamaha will not be focusing on volumes with its upcoming premium EV. Instead, the focus is on creating something sporty and outstanding. It will have an electric heart, but style and performance will be just as good as the current range of Yamaha bikes.Yamaha does not want to create something in a rush, as it won’t add value to the brand. So, the company will invest adequate time and effort in development of the new EV. For folks who can’t wait, it will be better to go with Yamaha’s ICE-based machines such as R15 and MT-15. Yamaha is also working on plans to bring R3, R7, MT-03, MT-07 and MT-09 to India.Source More

Yamaha Rental Service Adds E01 Electric Scooter To Its Fleet

Yamaha E01 Electric Scooter In JapanYamaha E01 electric scooter packs an 8.1 kW (10.86 bhp) electric motor which draws juice from a 4.9 kWh fixed Li-ion batteryJapan witnessed the introduction of the Yamaha E01 electric scooter. However, Yamaha is not launching it traditionally. Instead, the company is offering it as a rental service. Late last year, Yamaha introduced an experimental leasing program in Japan. Intention was to collect raw information from participating users for polishing the product. In May 2023, Yamaha brought E01 electric scooter under its rental service umbrella. E01 is exclusively on rent via Yamaha Bike Rental outlets in Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka Airport. Riders of age 20+ and with a relevant driving license can rent Yamaha E01 electric scooter.Yamaha E01 electric scooterE01 has a maxi-scooter-inspired design that looks sharp and modern at the same time. It gets a clear windscreen to aid with wind buffeting. Charging port is on the front fascia, flanked by boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. There are small dual LED headlights below the front apron, lending a unique look.Yamaha has given the E01 Scooter one of the tidiest tail sections on a maxi-scooter. It also gets LED indicators on the handlebar. Ergonomics of the scooter look very relaxed as expected from a maxi-scooter. But the only fly in the ointment seems to be that this isn’t a step-through scooter and the center spine hinders practicality slightly.Yamaha E01 Electric Scooter In JapanIt packs a 4.9 kWh Li-ion battery along with an 8.1 kW (10.86 bhp) mid-mounted brushless DC motor. Yamaha promises 104 km of range from a single charge and bundles an AC portable charger as part of the rental program. This charger takes about 14 hours to top-up the battery from a household socket. The E01 scooter packs a fully digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity features with navigation readouts, keyless ignition and some more features as standard. Yamaha will also equip it with disc brakes on both sides. These discs are alloy-mounted too. Front gets RSU (Right Side Up) telescopic forks, while rear gets twin shock absorbers. Will it launch in India? There is a large 23L under-seat storage too, which will only be useful if users don’t carry the charger along. Yamaha is said to have recorded the learnings from the leasing program last year. With this rental program, the company will procure more data and user behaviour. All in all, Yamaha E01 is likely to launch in markets like Europe in the future.India launch is likely too as Yamaha showcased two electric scooters to dealers in India, Neo’s and E01. The Japanese brand has even registered trademarks for E01 and EC-05 in India. When? Yamaha India hasn’t revealed their plans regarding this like they have with RX-100. Pricing for Yamaha E01 electric scooter is likely to be in the Rs 2 lakh range upon launch. More

2023 Yamaha R3 Launch Price 726k JPY (Rs 4.4 Lakh) – New Features

MY2023 Yamaha R3 launchedYZF-R1 inspired design language is the main highlight on 2023 Yamaha R3 along with its 42 PS and 30 Nm capable 320cc parallel-twin engineYamaha updated it for MY2023 with a bunch of new features. Japan is the first recipient of 2023 Yamaha R3. Launch happened today, May 10th, 2023. Yamaha is quoting a price JPY 726,000 (including tax) which translates to Rs. 4.39 lakh as per today’s currency exchange.Yamaha R3 didn’t need a lot in terms of componentry, so it doesn’t get a lot as part of MY2023 update. R3 got USD forks and other paraphernalia in 2019 update. Yamaha didn’t even add any new colours with 2023 update. So, what is new? Let’s take a look.MY2023 Yamaha R3 Launched In JapanThis model is of particular interest to Indian automobile market as we are expecting an imminent launch. Along with R3, Yamaha also showcased MT-03, MT-07 and MT-09 as well. Dealer sources revealed Yamaha intends to launch most of these, but R3 and MT-03 are highly likely. When launched, YZF-R3 will take on Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Ninja 400 along with KTM RC 390.We hope India gets all the added features with MY2023 Yamaha R3 too. Speaking of, Yamaha is offering LED turn indicators as standard fitment with MY2023 update. Halogen bulbs were the biggest sour points in R3’s design. The new front and rear LED turn indicators blend in well and complements stylish LED headlights and LED tail lights.Colour choicesOther additions include a quick shifter, but Yamaha is not offering it as standard fitment. Instead, prospective buyers have to shed JPY 22,000 (approx Rs. 13,325). We’re not sure whether it allows both clutchless upshifts and downshifts, or just one of them. Yamaha R15M gets a quick shifter too, supporting only clutchless upshifts. What does it pack?2023 Yamaha R3 comes in three colour options, just like its preceding model. These are Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, Dark Bluish Purple Metallic and the good ol’ Metallic Black. We think Dark Bluish Purple Metallic looks the flashiest, which might not be to everyone’s taste.R3 measures 2090 mm long, 730 mm wide and 1140 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 1380 mm long with a ground clearance of 160 mm. This should be enough to scale any and every illogical speed breaker we have. R3 bears the same beating and pulsating heart as before. Which is a 320cc parallel twin engine with liquid cooling, 4V head and packs DOHC setup.R1 inspired designThis engine is good for 42 PS of power at 10750 RPM and 30 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. With 14L of fuel in the tank, 2023 Yamaha R3 weighs just 169 kg, which is really commendable. Componentry includes USD front telescopic forks, rear monoshock, 110/70-17 front and 140/70-17 rear tyres.Yamaha offers single disc setup at both ends along with dual channel ABS. Fatter rubber would be nicer and while at it, we hope Yamaha offers the same fully digital TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity from R15M. R3 gets a fully digital LCD panel with limited functionalities. Launch in India is expected before Diwali 2023. Prices of Yamaha R3 in India could be in the Rs 4 lakh range. More

Yamaha RD350 Launch Likely As RZ350 – Royal Enfield Rival?

Image for illustration purpose. Credit – bluesmokecustoms yamaha rd 350Yamaha had recently showcased R3, R7, MT03, MT07 and MT09 at a dealer event, which reveals the company’s intentions to bring its big bikes to India
Middleweight segment in India has been registering strong growth, a trend which is expected to continue in the future. It presents a good opportunity for OEMs to aggressively target this space. As of now, more than 3/4th market share of middleweight motorcycle segment is commanded by Royal Enfield.
Yamaha is among the brands that are actively looking to enter the middleweight segment. The highest capacity Yamaha bikes currently on offer in India are the 250cc FZ 25 and FZS 25. The middleweight segment will also witness other new entrants such as upcoming Hero-Harley and Bajaj-Triumph bikes.
Yamaha RZ350 and RZ250 trademark filed in Japan
In several global markets including India, there’s increased demand for retro-styled bikes. While several entirely new models have been created, many OEMs have resurrected iconic models from the bygone era. Yamaha seems to be working on a similar approach, as it has recently filed trademarks for RZ350 and RZ250 in Japan. Considering the craze for retro bikes in India, it is possible that Yamaha could introduce the RZ350 and RZ250 in India as well.
RD350 was available in India during the 80s and 90s. It was hugely popular for its classic design and powerful performance. Even today, quite a few enthusiasts have the RD350 in running condition. There are various RD clubs as well in several parts of the country. With such a significant fan following, it won’t be surprising if RD350 returns to Indian market. This is especially true when Yamaha is looking to introduce higher capacity bikes in India.
Yamaha trademarks RZ350 and RZ250 names
Trademark applications for RZ350 and RZ250 filed in Japan are under Class 12. However, other details are not available at this point of time. OEMs often trademark names, but it is not a guarantee that those products will make it to production stage. With limited information available, it is difficult to say what Yamaha is planning with the RZ350 and RZ250 trademarks.
RD350 relaunch – What to expect?
Assuming that RD350 is resurrected, it is likely to be relaunched as a modern classic. It will take on Royal Enfield 350cc range, Honda H’ness CB350, Jawa / Yezdi and upcoming Bajaj-Triumph and Hero-Harley bikes. The hardware will also be upgraded in line with current expectations and in compliance with stricter emission norms.
Original Yamaha RD350 was equipped with a 347cc air cooled engine that generated 39 bhp of max power. It was mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The two-stroke parallel twin motor was immensely popular for its pulsating performance.
In its resurrected form, RD350 is likely to get a four-stroke engine. Equipment list will also be updated. For example, the bike could get LED headlamp with DRL, digital instrument console, dual-channel ABS, Bluetooth connectivity, traction control system and assist and slipper clutch. More
