Out of the five, Yamaha R3 and MT-03 comes off as the most attractive proposition for Indian market, breathing new life into quarter-liter segment2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonIndian motorcycling fraternity has been waiting keenly for a long time to get some special motorcycles from Team Blue. A 150cc faired motorcycle is Yamaha’s current flagship offering for India, believe it or not. After ages, Yamaha seems to be bringing some of its big bikes to India. Motorcycles like R7 and MT-09 have been teased before, but are now showcased. We’re talking about MT-09, MT-07 and MT-03 street-fighter motorcycles and R3 and R7 faired motorcycles. These were showcased to dealers in a recent event. Our sources have revealed that Yamaha intends to launch all these motorcycles by the end of this year as well. Let’s take a look.2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonYamaha MT-03 & R3 – The Next Big Thing In Quarter-Liter SegmentOff all the Yamaha motorcycles showcased in this recent dealer event, our eyes were set on the R3 and MT-03. Both of them might not come equipped with fancy gizmos like a TFT screen, but they will pack substance. ABS, ride-by-wire, traction control, and ride modes are likely. The MT-03 showcased to dealers was in Grey and Cyan colour combination and R3 in Racing Blue. We will see more shades for these when launched. They both get a diamond frame chassis, 37mm USD front forks with 130mm travel, a rear mono-shock with 120mm travel, and 298mm and 220mm brake rotors at front and rear.2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonWe would have liked fatter tyres as opposed to 110/70-17M front and 140/70-17M rear. Both bikes boasts a low 780mm seat height and a 1,380mm long wheelbase for straight-line stability. 160mm ground clearance should be enough to scale any illogical speed breaker in India. With 14L of fuel in the tank, MT-03 will tip the scales at 168kg and R3 weighs a kilo more.2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonEngine is shared between both Mt-03 and R3. Both gets a DOHC setup and its parallel-twin arrangement displaces 321cc and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. 42 PS of power at 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9,000 RPM are more than sufficient for this class. KTM 390 Duke and Kawasaki Ninja 300 are the arch-rivals for MT-03 and R3 respectively.R7, MT-07 & MT-09 Will Be Launched TooYamaha’s middle-weight offerings like R7 and MT-07 have lost two of their cylinders, high-revving nature and a lot of character. But 73.4 PS of power at 8,750 RPM and 67 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM generated from their 689cc parallel twin motor, is not to be scoffed at. This engine gets a 6-speed transmission too.2023 Yamaha R3, R7, MT03, MT07, MT09 India Launch SoonBoth R7 and MT-07 get a fancier TFT display with a load of functionalities. Other componentry includes dual 298mm and single 245mm front and rear disc brake setup, 120/70-17M front and 180/55-17M rear tyres, and a 14L fuel tank. Weight is just 184 kg with MT-07, while R7 weighs 188 kg.Talking about the “Triple” of Yamaha’s lineup, we have MT-09. It gets a 3-cylinder 890cc engine kicking out 119 PS of power at 10,000 RPM and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It comes with fully adjustable 41mm front USD forks, same tyres as MT-07 and weighs 189 kg with 14L of fuel. 2023 Yamaha Nmax 155cc Scooter Launch Price RM 9.8k (Rs 1.83 L)

There are not much changes done to 2023 Yamaha Nmax 155 – the performance figures of 14.9 bhp and 13.5 Nm are carried over2023 Yamaha Nmax 155cc ScooterDiversifying their scooter range is currently the trend that is being carried on by manufacturers. We have ADV-inspired scooters, sporty scooters, funky scooters and even maxi-styled scooters. Yamaha has a fair share of these in both global and Indian markets too. We sure hope Yamaha brings in more of their scooters like Nmax which has been updated to MY2023.It is a proper maxi-styled scooter with a 155cc engine shared with Yamaha R15, MT-15 and Aerox 155 in India. Unlike Aerox 155 sporty scooter in India, MY2023 Yamaha Nmax 155 is closer to a maxi-style scooter with a tall windscreen and a fuller front fairing. Let’s take a look at all the changes with MY2023 update.2023 Yamaha Nmax 155cc Scooter2023 Yamaha Nmax – Design ChangesIf you think Yamaha has offered anything different with 2023 update, you would be disappointed. As it is pound-to-pound identical to the outgoing model. What is new, though, are two colour combinations. They are Blue and Red and are the only changes with the MY2023 Yamaha Nmax 155 in the Malaysian market. We don’t mind the lack of changes, because it is a handsome-looking machine. At the front, it has LED headlights housed in a clear visor-like element with LED DRLs that remind me of Zorro’s mask, for some reason. Above it, is a tall windscreen that is not likely to be adjustable unlike Honda ADV 160.2023 Yamaha Nmax 155cc ScooterThis gets a fully covered fairing unlike Aerox 155 which gets a separate handlebar element. This makes Nmax 155 more of a maxi-styled scooter than Aerox 155. Most of the body panels are blackened, to reduce visual mass of this scooter. At the rear, there is a chunky grab rail and a neat-looking tail light design as well.R15 Derived Engine Steals The ShowNmax is not a step-through scooter and has a massive spine in the center. This robs of practicality and luggage carrying ability at the front. However, this layout is often found in sporty and maxi-styled scooters and is not a deal breaker. Since the fuel tank is now repositioned, it carves out a lot of under seat storage.Just like most scooters, MY2023 Yamaha Nmax 155 gets a swingarm-mounted engine. Speaking of, it is the same unit as Yamaha YZF-R15 V4, MT-15 and Aerox 155 we get in India. It has a 4V head, and VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and is liquid-cooled as well. In Nmax 155, Yamaha has detuned this engine, making 14.9 bhp of power and 13.5 Nm of torque. Will It Be Launched In India? In Malaysia, MY2023 Yamaha Nmax 155 costs close to RM 9,800. When roughly translated to Indian currency, it turns out to be Rs. 1.83 lakh. If you’re thinking that Yamaha would launch this in India, we would advise you not to hold your breath. More

Yamaha R25 Self-Balancing Motorcycle – Aims To Reduce Accidents

OEMs like Honda and BMW have also showcased their respective motorcycle self-balancing systems in the past, but a production version remains elusiveYamaha R25 Self-Balancing Tech ShowcasedAiming to reduce motorcycle-linked fatalities to zero by 2050, Yamaha has unveiled its self-balancing system. The self-balancing system is a key component of Yamaha’s Advanced Motorcycle Stabilisation Assist System (AMSAS). Yamaha essentially wants to create an accident-free world for its users, which is part the company’s Jin-Ki Kanno x Jin-Ki Anzen Safety Vision.Yamaha is testing its self-balancing tech on a R25. It will be prudent to not expect a launch soon, as the tech will require more time to be perfected. Performance in real-world conditions with chaotic traffic is where things can become a bit complicated. However, if all tests are successfully passed, Yamaha will be looking to introduce the self-balancing tech to several of its bikes.Yamaha R25 Self-Balancing Tech ShowcasedYamaha self-balancing tech – How it works?Yamaha’s self-balancing tech works by stabilizing the vehicle’s tilt at low speeds. For controlling the driving forces and steering forces, motor actuators have been installed on the front wheel and handlebars, respectively. The actuators are in turn controlled by a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The system allows the bike to be automatically stabilized at low speeds. The test vehicle can even be seen moving forward without the rider. When starting the bike or stopping, the stability is provided by the actuator installed on the front wheel. Once in motion and up to around 5 kmph, the stability is provided by the actuator fitted to the handlebars. In essence, the self-balancing system can perform at walking speeds. In such scenarios, no rider input will be required.[embedded content][embedded content]Yamaha’s self-balancing tech is currently at mid-development stage. It is one of the several rider assistance systems being developed by the company. A relevant example is radar-linked Unified Brake System seen with the Tracer 9 GT+. Apart from motorcycles, Yamaha has plans to introduce its self-balancing tech for various other personal mobility applications such as bicycles. Miniaturization of the components will be targeted accordingly, wherever feasible. How can self-balancing tech be useful?A self-balancing system can be a great asset for shorter individuals or users who find it difficult to manage the weight of the bike at starting and stopping. It will also be useful for learners, as there will be reduced risk of the bike topping over. Some segments of users with physical disabilities can also benefit from a self-balancing motorcycle. As self-balancing tech could be the next big thing in the world of two-wheelers, a lot of research is being conducted in this space. Earlier this year at 2023 Auto Expo, Liger Mobility had showcased its Liger X and Liger X+ self-balancing electric scooters. The scooter was able to self-balance itself without any inputs from the rider. Bookings for Liger self-balancing electric scooter are expected to commence later this year. Deliveries will begin by end of this year. More

2023 Yamaha R25 Gets New Colour – Phantom Purple With Pink

The 249 cc parallel-twin motor on 2023 Yamaha R25 gets DOHC setup along with a 4V head, making 36 bhp of power and 22.6 Nm of torque2023 Yamaha R25For a very long time, Yamaha YZF range has been one of the most successful for the brand. It spawns a wide range of motorcycles under its umbrella catering to almost all levels of riders. Be it a novice rider looking for a YZF-R125 or a veteran seeking a YZF-R1, Yamaha has got them covered. The twin-cylinder quarter-liter offering by Yamaha has been updated for MY2023. With this update, there are no changes done mechanically, or any revisions or additions in terms of componentry and equipment. However, there is a new colour, though and is starkly similar to the one that was offered with Yamaha R3 in 2022.2023 Yamaha R252023 Yamaha R25 – New Colour UpdateWith the 2023 Yamaha R25, the company has offered a new colour. This is the same colour that Yamaha R3 got in August 2022 for US market. The base coat is a glossy Phantom Purple colour with subtle Pink elements found on its side body panels below its R25 branding. These subtle pink elements are also found in the front fairing above its headlights. With this update, 2023 Yamaha R25 has been kept mechanically identical to the 2022 model. Yamaha has only kept changes limited to its colour. In essence, we still get the same 249 cc parallel-twin and liquid-cooled engine with a DOHC setup and a 4V head. This engine is capable of 36 bhp of power at 12,000 RPM and 22.6 Nm at 10,000 RPM.2023 Yamaha R25With this new colourway, front USD forks are painted Black, instead of Gold with the remaining colour options. Design is mostly similar to the R15 V4 that we get in India and the R125 that was recently showcased at the Bangkok International Motor Show.Should This Be Launched In India?Even though Yamaha’s extent of its YZF-R lineup in India is limited to just one single-cylinder 150cc offering, we are optimistic. Yamaha’s YZF-R7 and MT-09 have been teased for India and might be shipped any time soon. But Yamaha’s action in the quarter-liter segment is limited to just FZ-25, which is not an awe-inspiring offering, to begin with.FZ-25 managed to sell just 120 units last month. 2023 Yamaha R25 will be a premium offering. If FZ25 is not generating sales, does it make sense to launch R25 in India? Well, R25 will have a separate target customer base. And considering that people are willing to shell Rs. 1.95 lakh (ex-sh) for an R15, there might be enough takers for a twin-cylinder screamer from Team Blue. More
