Now, in 2023, the partnership is entering its 2nd phase. Bajaj is taking over Triumph India’s dealer network as well as entire sales and marketing operations. Triumph will be the company’s fifth dealer channel. As of now, Triumph has 15 dealerships across India. All Triumph dealerships will remain exclusive to the British brand.Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle for India – spiedTriumph India operations will now be headed by Mr. Sumeet Narang, who is also heading Bajaj Probiking. Whereas previous Triumph India head, Mr. Shoeb Farooq is reportedly being transferred to Bajaj’s Chetak electric mobility division. They launched the Dominar brand to do that, but that did not deliver expected results. It is likely that Triumph might only launch 250cc models in India, while 350cc motorcycles could be reserved for export markets. Engine specs are not out. But the 250cc version is expected to deliver about 30 bhp while the bigger 350cc unit could deliver about 40 bhp of max power.Body style options with Bajaj Triumph MotorcyclesSpeaking of body styles, there are going to be 4 options. A Roadster and a Scrambler are already known as they have been spotted testing before. The other two are a Cafe Racer and a Flat Tracker. Given Triumph’s naming scheme, we can expect that roadster model to be named Street 250, Street 350. Scrambler 250 and Scrambler 350.These will don USD front forks, retro vibes, round headlights, blackened engine bay and a clean tail. Scrambler gets a small windscreen, a front beak, knuckle guards, dual-barrel exhaust and block pattern tyres. Design language can be traced back to Triumph’s bigger motorcycles in their respective genre.Triumph makes Thruxton cafe racer as well. The cafe racer from Bajaj Triumph motorcycle is likely to take the same design language as Thruxton. As of now, Triumph doesn’t manufacture flat trackers. Design and development of these new motorcycles has been undertaken by Triumph’s UK R&D division. While the exact capacity of these bikes is not known, dimensions of the engine and exhaust suggest the likelihood of something close to 350cc-450cc. In an earlier statement, Triumph had said that its new single-cylinder bikes for India will be positioned in 250cc – 650cc range.Triumph Bajaj motorcycle featuresRetro theme is evident, with features such as round headlamp and rear view mirrors and teardrop-shaped fuel tank. Test mules have been spotted with a circular instrument dial, integrated with a squarish section towards the right. It is likely to be a semi-digital instrument console that will complement the bike’s retro styling.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderEngine section is tightly packed and body panelling is bare minimum, which ensures a sinewy profile for the motorcycle. Other key features include single-piece seat, blacked-out engine and exhaust, crash guard, thick grab rail, upswept exhaust and sleek tail section. Riding ergonomics will be fairly comfortable, suitable for both city commutes and highway cruising.While the platform will be the same, scrambler version will be distinguishable with features such as windscreen and knuckle guards. Exhaust design, wheel size and choice of rubber could also be different for the scrambler. There are unlikely to be any engine tweaks for the scrambler version.Which Engine Will Power The Triumph Bajaj Mid-Size MotorcyclesAs compared to rivals in 350cc segment, Triumph-Bajaj motorcycles will have USD front forks. At rear, the bikes will have monoshock suspension. Test mules appear to be riding on 17-inch wheels at both ends, shod with relatively wider tyre at rear. Braking duties are performed by disc brakes at both ends. Dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard. Connectivity features are likely for Triumph-Bajaj sub-500cc motorcycles.Triumph-Bajaj Adventure Motorcycle RenderWhile Triumph-Bajaj new bikes seem to have potential, these are unlikely to pose any major threat to Royal Enfield. Pricing is a key factor that will determine sales volumes of these motorcycles. As of now, it’s difficult for most players to match the aggressive pricing of Royal Enfield. Triumph-Bajaj new sub-500cc motorcycles are expected to be launched at around Rs 2 lakh.In future, another challenger to Royal Enfield could come in the form of Vincent Motorcycles. The trademark for this name was recently acquired by Bajaj. But despite that, this segment is still dominated by Royal Enfield with its slew of 350 cc bikes like Bullet, Classic and Meteor and also, Himalayan and Scram 411.When Dominar was launched, Bajaj took a dig at Royal Enfield saying not to buy “Haathis” (elephants) as most Enfields wouldn’t properly go and if they did, wouldn’t properly stop and also weighed a lot with no gizmos. But in reality, Indians still bought Haathis. I don’t blame them. If the Haathi looked as elegant and charming as Royal Enfield bikes, why not?Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle SpiedTo add salt to the wound, Hunter 350 is launched at a lower price point too. At the same time, Triumph seems to be following the same route BMW Motorrad took to foray into entry-level bikes along with TVS. So, British brand Triumph has partnered up with Bajaj to co-develop a platform that would benefit both companies. A match made in Heaven? Maybe.Last time we covered the Bajaj Triumph bike, it was papped fully undisguised. The new spy shots reveal mostly the same, but give more details too. For starters, this upcoming motorcycle will be offered in two versions, a street and a scrambler. Both get separate design elements to suit the genre. The video below shows riding posture on the upcoming Bajaj Triumph motorcycle, while it was spied near Pune.Upcoming Bajaj Triumph Scrambler Motorcycle – RenderBoth test mules look production ready and we can expect a launch very soon. They shoot for the timeless retro classic look and we should say, looks quite handsome. Their design is reminiscent of Triumph’s Bonneville lineup. They get a single-piece seat, neat grab rail at the rear, round headlights and indicators, bar-end mirrors and a lot more.In terms of cycle parts, they get USD front forks and mono-shock at back, 19” and 17” alloy wheels at the front and back, single discs at both ends with dual-channel ABS, slightly rear-set footpegs and more. They both get LED lighting all-around, a circular speedo and a squarish digital display beside it housed in the same console.What To Expect?We don’t know the exact engine specs at the moment. But looking at the engine on test mules, looks like a single-cylinder unit with liquid cooling and a single exhaust setup. Looking at the size of it, it is likely to be a 300 to 400cc unit. And might make around 35 bhp and 30 Nm of torque. It may get a 6-speed gearbox too.New Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle SpiedLooking at their lean and athletic frame, they are likely to weigh around 170 to 180 kg. Both bikes will be manufactured here in India to get the production costs down. These motorcycles will be sold under Triumph branding. Bajaj might launch a different version of their own branding in the future. This probably will be a similar story, what we have seen with Bajaj-KTM. It will come via the company’s collaboration with UK-based Triumph Motorcycles.Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle spiedAs evident in the images, the new Bajaj-Triumph bike looks production ready. It seems to derive design inspiration from Triumph Bonneville range of motorcycles. Retro theme is evident with features such as round headlamps and rear-view mirrors.Other key highlights include a compact design, sculpted fuel tank, single-piece seat, all-skeletal design, upswept exhaust and alloy wheels. Suspension system comprises USD forks at front and a monoshock unit at rear with pre-load adjustability. In comparison, Bonneville bikes such as Street Scrambler, Street Twin and Speed Twin are equipped with dual rear shock absorbers. Use of a monoshock unit at rear makes the bike better suited for tackling off-road terrains.2023 Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle – New Spy ShotsOff-roading capabilities are further enhanced with features such as dual-purpose Metzeler tyres. Image above is a render.The partnership between Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles is one of the most talked-about associations in the Indian auto industry in recent times. The joint venture will result in production of premium mid-displacement motorcycles which will be retailed under the iconic British brand in India as well as overseas markets.The association between the two auto giants has led to the development of at least two bikes with the same underpinnings and engine but slightly different body styles. Both these motorcycles have recently been caught on camera for the first time. One is a neo-retro roadster while the other is a scrambler. The former will take on the likes of Royal Enfield Meteor 350 while the latter will take on the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and upcoming Royal Enfield Hunter 350.Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler: EngineThe roadster has already been discussed at a length previously. The scrambler is a different take on the motorcycle with the same engine. As mentioned earlier, both bikes will be powered by the same motor. Although exact configurations aren’t known yet, we expect this mill to be a single-cylinder unit with a sub-500cc displacement. The engine has supposedly been developed by Triumph since it wears a similar look.The motor is nestled in a triangular-shaped casing which is reminiscent of the bigger Bonnevilles. The motor gets cooling fins but those are only meant for aesthetic purposes as it features a large radiator which means it will be a liquid-cooled unit. In all likelihood, the engine will use a 4-valve, DOHC layout like the KTM models developed by Bajaj.New Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle Will Rival Royal EnfieldLike its roadster sibling, the upcoming Triumph scrambler borrows visual cues from the neo-retro range of motorcycles from the British brand. The most evident styling inspiration is Triumph’s existing Street Scrambler with signature highlights such as a round headlight, an engine underbelly crash guard, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank with rubber pads on the sides and split-style seats.Both the roadster and scrambler get a single exhaust tailpipe with a dual-barrel canister although their design appears slightly different from each other. The latter’s scrambler appeal is highlighted with the presence of a tall-set beak-like front fender, knuckle guards, a short flyscreen and a luggage rack at rear, some of which will be available as accessories.Features & HardwareAs far as equipment is concerned, this test mule flaunted a rectangular digital TFT instrument console similar to the ones used in the 390 range of KTM. However, the production-spec model could use something more retro like a circular semi-digital cluster to suit the bike’s character. The bike is also expected to pack full LED illumination and multiple riding modes.Upcoming Bajaj Triumph Scrambler MotorcycleComing to its hardware, both the scrambler and its roadster singling appear to be based on a tubular chassis with bolt-on rear subframes. The chassis will be suspended on upside-down forks at front and a mono-shock at rear, although the suspension setup of the scrambler is likely to offer more travel. Braking duties will be carried out by a 4-piston radially mounted caliper with a single disc at front and rear each.Unlike the roadster with a 17-inch front wheel, the scrambler runs on a larger 19-inch front alloy wheel. The rear wheel on both bikes remain 17-inch units, however, the alloy wheels on scrambler are shod with semi-knobby road-biased tyres from Metzeler. Given the timeline of the partnership announcement, we reckon that the first product should be pretty close to being ready for its world premiere.Bajaj Triumph Scrambler RenderingThe modular medium displacement platform to be born out of this Indo-English alliance could adopt multiple body styles. We think a retro-classic scrambler and a low-riding cruiser are two of the top possibilities. Our design specialist Pratyush Rout has envisioned the former, taking cues from Triumph’s iconic Bonneville family.Earlier this year, a prototype of what is reported to be the Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler was spotted testing along with a sobered up roadster variant. The test mules appeared to donning unfinished body components but the design direction was apparent. The Scrambler variant was equipped with 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear unit, serrated foot pegs and hand guards.While it is obvious that the new Bajaj-Triumph Scrambler and its derivatives will be equipped with a single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, the displacement is still kept under wraps. Given that the partnership is going after Royal Enfield’s immensely popular family of 350cc motorcycles, we expect the displacement to be in the same ballpark albeit with considerably more power and torque.Upcoming Bajaj Triumph Scrambler MotorcycleMarket PositioningIf the Trident and Tiger 660 is anything to go by, Triumph is likely to position the upcoming single-cylinder offering in the premium end of the medium-displacement segment with no skimping on equipment. The prototypes supported this claim by sporting USD front forks, front and rear disc brakes with ABS, TFT instrument cluster, LED headlight and so on.At the time of initial announcement, Bajaj-Triumph revealed that the new range of jointly developed products will have a staring price of under Rs 2 lakhs. With pandemic induced supply chain challenges, it would be a difficult task to stick to this pricing commitment but if at all any OEM can pull off such an attractive pricing, it is Bajaj.Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle LaunchIt is no secret that with its upcoming family of medium displacement single-cylinder premium motorcycles, Bajaj and Triumph aim to put an end to Royal Enfield’s near-monopoly in the segment. Its been over 50 years since Triumph last made a single-cylinder motorcycle but given this segment is growing at a brisk pace globally, it can’t afford not to participate. Bajaj’s experience in manufacturing premium single-cylinder KTMs for global market and a competitive cost structure makes it a sound business model.Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle Spied.
