Triumph Speed 400 On-Road Prices Start From Rs 2.68 Lakh

New Triumph 400As opposed to the previous alleged on-road price of Rs. 3.39 lakh, Triumph Speed 400 prices will be between Rs. 2.68 lakh to Rs. 2.87 lakh on roadWith Royal Enfield as the target, Triumph launched its newest motorcycle, Speed 400, at an attractive price point of Rs. 2.33 lakh (ex-sh). The new motorcycle is a result of Bajaj-Triumph strategic partnership. Thanks to this, Triumph now has opened a brand new portal for a new range of audiences.Though the ex-sh launch price was attractive, a dealer shared on-road price to be at 3.39 lakh. This included multiple added charges which should not have been there in the first place. The photo of that on-road price went viral on social media. Triumph India was quick to intervene and announced that on-road prices will be out later in the month.Triumph Speed 400 on road pricesTriumph Speed 400 Prices On-RoadFirst set of on-road prices are out and they don’t include all the hidden charges that plagued the viral alleged on-road pricing as before. Hidden charges were in the form of Rs. 17,000 delivery charges and Rs. 8,500 Intro Kit. Those seem to have gone away with the new set of on-road prices. Also, the previous pricing mentioned Rs. 46,553 as on-road prices which was supposed to be from Karnataka state. Rs. 46,553 is around 20% of Rs. 2,33,000 ex-sh price, which is slightly off as Karnataka residents pay a tax of 18% for motorcycles costing above Rs. 50,000 ex-sh. Which is every other motorcycle from Hero HF Deluxe to BMW M 1000 RR.Earlier on-road prices shared by dealer. These are no longer valid.Triumph Speed 400 on-road prices don’t seem to have delivery charges and any Intro kit from Triumph dealers. According to dealers, Triumph Speed 400 costs Rs. 2.68 lakh in Delhi, Rs. 2.87 lakh in Goa, Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra (all prices on-road).How to calculate on-road pricesRTO taxes vary from state to state. For example, Delhi charges RTO taxes based on engine displacement. Motorcycles with over 50cc engines pay Rs. 1,220 per annum as tax for 15 years, upfront. Karnataka charges based on price segments. Chandigarh excludes GST while calculating RTO taxes. Also, the on-road prices that we see online on various portals are never pin-point accurate no matter the claims. Those prices include insurance from dealers. But customers can choose insurance of their choice and doesn’t necessarily have to be from the showroom. So, because they don’t have control over customer choices, online on-road prices are always iffy.Contacting the nearest showroom and your preferred insurance company will yield the most precise on-road price analysis. There is no mention of whether these prices include RSA (Roadside Assistance) or not. Which in almost all cases, will be optional. More

Triumph Scrambler 250, Roadster 250 Names on Official Website

Image for reference onlyDevelopment of a new 250cc platform – Triumph Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250 names on official websiteSince the launch of Speed 400 at a disruptive price of Rs. 2.23 lakh (ex-sh, introductory), Triumph-Bajaj duo has created quite a buzz in Indian motorcycling world. Speed 400 comes close to Royal Enfield Classic 350 pricing while offering a lot more tech, power, torque and just more of everything. But Hunter 350 Retro still starts at Rs. 1.5 lakh (ex-sh) price point. It is currently Rs. 83,000 less expensive than Speed 400. But what if Triumph is developing a new product to target this price point as well? Say hello to Triumph Roadster 250 and Scrambler 250.Triumph’s Tiny Titans: The 250cc Wonder DuoThe British brand’s official website has revealed possible names of two of its new motorcycles. Automotive enthusiast Abhishek shared with us a screenshot/snippet from Triumph’s official website. In the image, we can see Triumph Trident, the company’s most affordable three-cylinder motorcycle and Scrambler 400 which is set to launch later this year. And lo and behold, listed below is Triumph Roadster 250 and Triumph Scrambler 250. These motorcycles pique ones interest, and indicate the company is working on a 250cc motorcycle platform. We can also see Roadster 400, which is highly likely to be Speed 400. The info can be found in the ‘choose model’ option in Triumph’s official contact form.Triumph Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250What to Expect from Triumph Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250 – A Blend of Style and AgilityNew 250cc engine is highly likely to be a single-cylinder unit that will generate slightly less power and torque than its bigger brother Speed 400. About 30 bhp of power and 25 Nm of torque is most probable. Triumph Roadster 250 could take the name Speed 250 and Scrambler 250 should remain as is.Styling and componentry will be similar to their respective bigger siblings. Just like its bigger sibling, we can expect a DOHC setup along with 4 valves per cylinder and liquid-cooling setup. Slipper clutch and ride-by-wire could be in the mix as well. A 6-speed gearbox is highly probable too and we can expect it to weigh around 160 kg.Offering the same chassis, body panels and other hardware makes a lot of sense to keep the costs in check. Equipment like 43 mm USD telescopic front forks could make way to RSU telescopic units. LED lighting all around, 140-section rear tyre, and a semi-digital instrument cluster can be on offer with Triumph Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250.A price point of around 1.7 lakh could be logical which will keep Royal Enfield’s less expensive models in check along with Honda CB350 and Jawa motorcycles. Triumph hasn’t revealed a launch timeline. But 2024 could be when these motorcycles will see the light of day. More

Triumph Speed 400 And 7 Other Motorcycles In Similar Price Range

Triumph Speed 400 PriceIn this space of premium single-cylinder machines within Rs. 2.2 – 2.4 lakh (ex-sh), legacy brands like Yamaha and Suzuki are surprisingly absentTriumph Speed 400 is launched in India for an introductory price of Rs. 2.23 lakh (ex-sh). The pricing strategy has created quite a stir in the Indian motorcycle segment. The motorcycle has garnered 10,000 bookings in 10 days and introductory pricing is not valid anymore. The price now stands at Rs. 2.33 lakh (ex-sh). At this price range, it clashes with a lot of motorcycles across various brands. But all fingers point towards Royal Enfield’s lion’s share in the 350cc space. So, what are the options (irrespective of body styles) for a prospective buyer that is considering a Triumph Speed 400 at Rs. 2.2 to 2.4 lakh (ex-sh, Delhi)? Let’s take a look.1. Royal Enfield Meteor 350 – Up to Rs. 2.25 lakhImage – Being TechnozzRoyal Enfield has a slew of 350cc motorcycles and Meteor 350 is their flagship. It has the same J-series 349cc SOHC, 2V, air-cooled engine as others that makes 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm and weighs 191 kg. A tripper screen with top-trims with Bluetooth and navigation along with Royal Enfield’s legacy badging are its biggest strengths.2. Bajaj Dominar 400 – Rs. 2.29 lakhImage – Shahrukh AkhtarThis is the original VFM motorcycle that redefined performance on a budget. Despite its unmatched performance, equipment, features and engineering prowess, Bajaj Dominar didn’t create enough dent in Royal Enfield’s armour. It has a KTM-sourced 373cc DOHC, 4V, liquid-cooled engine making 39.42 bhp and 35 Nm of torque and weighs a hefty 193 kg.3. Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 – Up to Rs. 2.28 lakhRE Himalayan New ColoursThere is a Scram 411, Himalayan’s platform partner that surprisingly costs less than Meteor 350. Both 411s have a SOHC, 2V, air-cooled 411cc engine with 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm and weighs 199 kg. It is the only off-roader in this comparo. If that is your jam and you want one with comparable performance as Speed 400, the upcoming Himalayan 450cc would be worth the wait.4. Honda CB300F – Up to Rs. 2.29 lakhHonda CB300FThis is one of the less spoken-about Honda motorcycles. It has a lot of good bits like a 293.52cc SOHC, 2V, oil-cooled engine with 24.13 bhp and 25.6 Nm. It weighs just 153 kg, which is the lightest in this list. If an easy-to-use lightweight bike is your jam, this is it, within the Rs. 2.2 – 2.4 lakh (ex-sh) budget.5. Benelli Imperiale 400 – Rs. 2.35 lakhBenelli Imperiale 400If being old-school and packing the biggest motorcycle (literally) is your preference, then Benelli Imperiale 400 makes a lot of sense. There is a 374cc SOHC, air-cooled, 4V engine that generates 20.7 bhp of power and 29 Nm of torque. Weight is the highest at 205 kg.6. KTM 250 Duke – Rs. 2.38 lakhYes. KTM 250 Duke costs more than Dominar 400 owing to its componentry, hardware and KTM brand value. It packs a 248cc DOHC, 4V, liquid-cooled engine generating 29.6 bhp and 24 Nm of torque. It weighs slightly less than Triumph Speed 400 at 170 kg.7. Harley-Davidson X440 – Up to Rs. 2.69 lakhNew Harley Davidson X440Even though Harley-Davidson X440 starts from Rs. 2.29 lakh (ex-sh), pricing goes till 2.69 lakh (ex-sh) for top-spec S trim. It packs the highest engine displacement in this comparo at 440cc. This is a DOHC engine with a 2V head and oil-cooling generating 27 bhp and 38 Nm. It weighs a lot more than Speed 400 at 190.5 kg.Triumph Speed 400 – Rs. 2.33 lakhTriumph Speed 400Coming to the bike of the hour, Triumph Speed 400 is by far the most bang for the buck. It packs a 398cc DOHC, 4V, liquid-cooled engine with 39.5 bhp of power and 37.5 Nm of torque. It even packs a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire as well. Most of the hardware and features are best-in-segment and it weighs 176 kg. Will it be the new go-to bike in the segment? Only time will tell. More

Triumph Dealer Overcharging For Speed 400 – Rs 3.38 Lakh ? Here’s An Update

New Triumph 400After a post went viral showing on-road price of Speed 400 at Rs 3.38 lakh, Triumph India said they will release the official on-road price soonWorking in collaboration with Bajaj Auto, Triumph recently launched Speed 400 at a starting price of Rs 2.33 lakh. The first 10,000 customers will get the bike at a discounted price of Rs 2.23 lakh. Triumph has also unveiled the scrambler version 400X, which will go on sale later this year.Triumph has surprised everyone with its aggressive pricing strategy. This is probably the most potent challenge thrown at Royal Enfield in recent years. Sources reveal that there have been significant enquiries for Speed 400. Even from locations where Triumph currently does not have any dealership. Could this be a reason for some dealerships to try to overcharge customers for Speed 400?Triumph Speed 400 on-road price breakup shared by a dealerTriumph Speed 400 on-road price at Rs 3.38 lakh?A viral post claiming to be sourced from a Triumph dealership shows the on-road price of Speed 400 at Rs 3,38,598. While it is difficult to verify the authenticity of this post, it is being claimed that the quotation was provided by a Triumph dealership In Bengaluru. For a bike priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-sh.), one would expect the on-road price to be around Rs 2.70 lakh to Rs 2.90 lakh. However, as per the viral post, the on-road price is more than a lakh of the ex-showroom price. Some of the charges mentioned in the cost break-up are relevant such as road tax, registration and RTO charges, RSA and insurance. However, there are some charges that seem to be an attempt to make a fast buck. For example, delivery charge is mentioned at Rs 17,000. Intro Kit cost is listed at Rs 8,500. These raise suspicion if dealerships are trying to inflate the on-road price of Triumph Speed 400.Update on the viral tweet.Triumph India respondsTriumph has taken notice of the viral post. They have responded by saying that they are investigating the issue. As a fix, Triumph will be releasing the official on-road price of Speed 400. It will be communicated to all showrooms this month. Dealerships will need to follow the official on-road price. Many OEMs publish both ex-showroom and on-road prices on their website. It helps create an environment of transparency and trust. However, on-road prices will still vary from state to state. Every state has its own structure of fees and charges. In case of Triumph Speed 400, delivery charges will also vary based on the location of the customer. Triumph currently has only 15 dealerships in the country. Delivery charges will obviously be zero for anyone taking delivery at the dealership. But for customers who request home delivery, an appropriate delivery charge will be applicable. To simplify the buying experience, Triumph is working to expand its dealership network. By end of this month, 15 new outlets will become operational. The total number will reach 50 dealerships in the next two months. And by March 2024, Triumph is targeting a countrywide network of 100 dealerships. More

Triumph 400 Vs Harley 440 Vs Royal Enfield – Price, Specs, VFM

New Triumph 400In spite of the attractive base price point, Classic 350 is no match for the sheer performance and equipment that Triumph Speed 400 is offeringFor a long time, Royal Enfield has dominated the 350cc to 500cc space with a slew of motorcycles. Honda, Jawa and Yezdi brands tried to steal its thunder for some time. But Royal Enfield has soldiered on. Now, it has two new contenders with legacy pedigree brand names attached to them. We’re talking about Triumph Speed 400 and Harley-Davidson X440.These two have a higher chance of disrupting RE’s dominance than the others. Especially Triumph. With disruptive pricing, Speed 400 challenges the current champion Classic 350 in a way we had never imagined. Let’s take a look at how Triumph’s latest entrant holds up to the recently launched X440 along with others.Triumph Speed 400 Vs RivalsOne look at the spec sheet below is enough to see that Triumph Speed 400 has the most technologically advanced and powerful engine. Harley-Davidson X440 has the most torque and it makes this torque at just 4000 RPM too.Royal Enfield Classic 350 has the weakest powertrain on paper and Yezdi comes off as the most underrated. Triumph Speed 400 is the only one to get ride-by-wire for smooth throttle transitions and boasts a slipper clutch along with Yezdi and Honda. Speed 400 has the tightest packaging too.Triumph Speed 400 Vs Rivals Spec ComparisonIt has the shortest wheelbase, 26-degree rake and 102mm trail and is the lightest of this bunch too. Dual-channel ABS is standard with all the models. Adding to it, Speed 400 boasts fattest tyres in this segment (110-section front, 150-section rear), completed with 43mm USD telescopic front forks and rear mono-shock.Sporty handling and explosive performance crown belongs to Triumph, among this list. It doesn’t have the largest disc brakes on this list, but a low 176 kg weight should negate that need. Royal Enfield Scram 411 offers the highest suspension travel in this list. In terms of seat height, Triumph is one of the lowest among this bunch.Changing narratives for the 350cc to 500cc retro machines?Until Royal Enfield’s new 450cc liquid-cooled engine debuts, Triumph Speed 400 seems to be the motorcycle that does it all. Triumph does miss out on Bluetooth connectivity. But considering everything it is offering at the impressive Rs. 2.23 lakh (introductory, ex-sh) pricing, it is easily forgivable.Triumph Speed 400 Vs Rivals Price ComparisonAs seen in the pricing table above, Classic 350 does start at an attractive 1.90 lakh (ex-sh) price point. This is just Rs. 33,000 less than Speed 400’s introductory price and Rs. 39,000 less than X440. But Classic 350 prices go till Rs. 2.21 lakh (ex-sh). And at that point, Triumph Speed 400 is just Rs. 2,000 more expensive and offers a plethora of goodness that Classic 350 just doesn’t. Harley-Davidson X440 is still the most expensive on this list going till Rs. 2.69 lakh for top S trim. More

Triumph 400 Duo LaunchedConsidering everything that Triumph’s 400 duo is packing and the price point, they’re likely to disrupt Royal Enfield’s stronghold in 350cc spaceBajaj-Triumph’s partnership has resulted in a new range of 400cc motorcycles. The company has launched them at an attractive price of Rs 2.3 lakh for base Speed 400. The first 10,000 buyers can enjoy a price tag of Rs 2.23 lakh. Speed 400 resonates with its bigger brother Speed Twin 900 (previous name Street Twin). Scrambler 400X resonates with Scrambler 900. There are 25 accessories that Triumph is selling alongside as well. India is the first country to get this duo, more markets will follow.[embedded content]Triumph Speed 400 LaunchedAt Rs 2.23 lakh starting price, Triumph Speed 400 directly competes with Harley-Davidson X440 launched recently and Royal Enfield’s 350cc range. X440 has 27 bhp of power at 6000 RPM and 38 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, and comes close to Triumph Speed 400.Triumph 400 targets upper end of premium single-cylinder machines like KTM 390 range as well, to some extent. Both Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X offer a single-cylinder 398cc engine that generates 40 bhp of power at 8000 RPM and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. This engine gets a liquid cooling and a DOHC setup along with a 4V head.Retro futuristic designThere is a 6-speed gearbox with the new TR-Series platform. Surprisingly, even Triumph’s bigger twin-cylinder 900cc platform gets a 5-speed gearbox even today. Even though Bajaj will manufacture it in India, this new engine retains the iconic triangular engine casing like its bigger siblings, which is a nice touch.Triumph Speed 400 launchedThe British brand’s new TR-series engine packs ride-by-wire and a slip-and-assist clutch as well. Despite having liquid cooling, there are fins around the engine block that radiate a retro aura. Yezdi and Jawa do a similar thing too. All of the engine bay and exhaust gets a matte black finish that looks minimal and neat.Minimalist finish and popping coloursGolden USD front forks and exhaust pipe finishing breaks the black effect around the engine bay. Fuel tank is the only place where there is a paint job. Round headlights and ORVMs shout retro. But they have a modern appeal to them. Speed 400 gets round bar-end mirrors and a single-tip exhaust design. While Scrambler 400X gets knuckle guards, round conventional ORVMs along with a twin-tip exhaust design that tries to mimic Scrambler 900. Could have been positioned higher up, like Scrambler 900.Sculpted fuel tankSpeed 400 gets 17” alloy wheels at both ends. It has a suspension travel of 140mm front and 130mm rear, 300mm front disc, 790mm seat height and weighs 170 kg. Scrambler 400X boasts 19” front and 17” alloys with block pattern tyres, 150mm suspension travel at both ends, 835mm seat height, 320mm front disc and weighs 179 kg.Both Triumph 400 motorcycles get dual-channel ABS (switchable with Scrambler 400X), traction control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, all-LED lighting, heated grips (optional), USB Type-C charging port, gear position indicator, and more. At Rs 2.23 lakh base price (ex-sh), Triumph 400 has the potential to make a noticeable dent in Royal Enfield’s 350cc motorcycle sales. More

Triumph New 400cc Engine Vs Rivals – RE, Honda, Jawa, Yezdi, BMW

Triumph Speed 400Even though current KTM 390 range boasts performance numbers advantage, Triumph new 400cc engine makes its peak numbers lower in the rev rangeIconic British brand Triumph has unveiled its new 400cc platform recently. It will unlock a new segment for the brand and attract a new user base that would have previously scoffed at even Triumph’s most affordable prices. With the partnership with Bajaj Auto, Triumph has managed to offer a new single-cylinder lineup. But, how does this new single-cylinder engine stack up against established players in the market? That is the right question to ask. So, we compared the new 398cc engine from Bajaj-Triumph with their primary rivals from Royal Enfield, BMW-TVS, Bajaj-KTM, Jezdi-Jawa and Honda. Let’s take a look.[embedded content]Triumph New 400cc Engine – Premium single-cylinder Royal RumbleTo keep competition fair, we didn’t include Royal Enfield’s 650cc bikes as they have twin-cylinder powertrains. Right off the bat, Royal Enfield 411cc engine has a displacement advantage. Next-gen 450cc Royal Enfield engine along with Hero-Harley’s 440cc engine are not yet announced and we will include them in future posts. Both Royal Enfield 350cc and 411cc engines feature a SOHC setup along with a 2V head and come off as least technologically advanced. Honda CB350 has SOHC setup too but gets a 4V head. Also, both Honda and Royal Enfield motorcycles are air-cooled. While the rest get liquid-cooling.Triumph new 400cc engine vs rivalsIn terms of power, KTM 390 range has the edge here. With 42.9 horses, KTM leads the pack with Triumph 400 trailing behind with 40 bhp, TVS-BMW 310 with 33.52 bhp, Yezdi-Jawa with 28.7 bhp, RE 411 with 24.3 bhp, Honda CB350 with 20.78 bhp and RE 350 with 20.2 bhp. Even though KTM has power and torque advantage, Triumph’s new engine makes its peak power much earlier in the rev range. If we speak of peak power at lowest engine speeds, it is surprisingly Honda CB350. Triumph’s new engine has the edge where torque is concerned. 37.5 Nm is highest, followed by KTM’s 37 Nm, RE 411 with 32 Nm and at 27 Nm, we have RE 350 as least torquey. Also, both Royal Enfield bikes on this list and Honda CB350 get a 5-speed gearbox too.Who has the edge?Except for Royal Enfield motorcycles in this list, everyone else features a slipper clutch. TVS-BMW and Triumph 400 add ride-by-wire in the mix too, enabling granular throttle modulation. But KTM 390 range has an edge on all of these as it offers a bi-directional quick shifter, which others don’t offer even as an option.Quick shifter allows for quick clutchless shifts for spirited driving. Also, KTM 390 is the only one with cornering ABS too, but that’s not powertrain related. At the upper range, there is a tough fight between Triumph’s new 400cc unit and KTM’s 390 range. With launch of new 390 range with a larger 399cc engine, gap in performance might widen further. At the lower end, Royal Enfield 350 is the least technologically advanced powertrain when compared to its immediate rival Honda CB350. Honda offers a 4V head and slipper clutch and makes more power and torque, much earlier in its rev range too. But we know who rules sales charts, don’t we? More
