    India’s best selling brand in the middleweight motorcycle segment, Royal Enfield is now looking to achieve something similar in the EV space. There aren’t any CC limitations for electric two-wheelers. And brands have full freedom to create truly unique products that suit their target audience. Royal Enfield will unveil its first electric motorcycle on 4th November, 2024.
    Royal Enfield electric motorcycle – What to expect?
    Ahead of that, the first spy shots of this new motorcycle have now leaked online. Based on these images, it is likely that Royal Enfield’s first electric bike will be based on the Electrik 01 concept. An image of the prototype was first released in 2022. As it is seen being tested on the road, that means it is no longer a concept and is in near-production ready form.

    Royal Enfield has added an exclusive section on its website for its electric motorcycles. Teasers reveal a bike being dropped from the skies using a parachute. This hints at the possibility that the upcoming electric motorcycle could borrow its name from the Flying Flea, a motorcycle that was used during World War II. The shape of the parachute is an exact match with the sketches of the air-dropped Flying Flea motorcycles, released during World War II.
    Focus on urban mobility
    While such talks may be speculative, it is interesting to note that Royal Enfield had registered the ‘Royal Enfield Flying Flea’ trademark in 2020. On its website, Royal Enfield mentions that its new range of electric two-wheelers will hit the road soon and are designed for urban mobility. They will have agile characteristics, something that applies to the Flying Flea as well. However, for the 21st century, Royal Enfield electric motorcycles will offer the full range of connectivity and hi-tech features.

    Leaked spy images reveal a retro profile, with circular headlamps and rear-view mirrors. The LED headlamp unit is similar to the other RE motorcycles. There’s a circular instrument cluster as well. It could be the same as or a derivative of the one in use with Himalayan 450. Features such as the classic tear-drop fuel tank design, Girder forks, rider-only seat and semi-circular rear fender are quite similar to that of the Flying Flea. The skinny wheels and tyres are another common feature. For an EV, such components can help reduce air drag and optimize range.

    On 4th November, Royal Enfield is likely to provide some more information about its first electric motorcycle. In terms of performance, the first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle can be comparable to the brand’s popular 350 cc ICE motorcycles. Those with range anxiety may get some estimates on that as well.

    Royal Enfield is also working on the electric version of Himalayan 450. As of now, extensive tests are underway to determine the platform’s capabilities. When ready, the Himalayan 450 electric platform will spawn a new range of electric two-wheelers.

    India’s adventure motorcycle dream for the mainstream market was paved by Hero MotoCorp with the launch of Impulse. Later on, the company launched Xpulse 200, democratizing the ADV genre. Now, Hero is set to climb the next step in its ADV journey with new Xpulse, which will globally debut at EICMA 2024.

    For months, there have been speculations about Hero working on a larger displacement version of the Xpulse. While earlier expectations pointed to an Xpulse 210, recent clues indicate that Hero might be unveiling the Xpulse 440 instead. This would mark a significant step up in terms of performance and features, positioning the new Xpulse as a serious competitor in the mid-capacity adventure motorcycle market.

    All of this hints at a possible global debut of an all new Xpulse. But will it be an Xpulse 210 or Xpulse 440, that remains to be seen. However, after a bit of digging into the bike shown in the teaser, it looks like the image belongs to an aftermarket parts manufacturer called HyperRider. The motorcycle in question is a BS4 Xpulse 200 FI equipped with a few accessories from HyperRider.
    If this is a boo-boo from Hero’s digital marketing team, then this reminds us of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza teaser where their marketing team had used images of an Audi Q3. Sure, the hype around Hero Xpulse 210 is real and it really is among the most-anticipated ADV motorcycles. However, this image used by Hero MotoCorp is probably not the correct motorcycle, while the real Xpulse could look a lot different.

    What to expect?
    If it is the larger Xpulse 440 – This larger engine could deliver around 35-40 bhp and 35 Nm of torque, giving the bike much-needed grunt for high-speed cruising and off-road performance. The 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch will further enhance its touring credentials, allowing for smoother gear shifts and better control at higher speeds.
    Hero is expected to load the Xpulse 440 with a host of features aimed at both off-road enthusiasts and long-distance riders. The Pro Kit, which was earlier seen on the Xpulse 200, may make its way to the Xpulse 440 as well, including fully adjustable long-travel suspension, off-road-spec tyres, and handlebar risers for improved ergonomics. Additional features could include a larger windscreen, improved aerodynamics with tank shrouds, and a rugged tank cage to protect the fuel tank during off-road adventures.
    While the Xpulse 200 has been a capable entry-level adventure motorcycle, the new Xpulse 440 will likely cater to a wider audience looking for serious adventure touring and off-roading capabilities. With a larger fuel tank and enhanced cruising capabilities, the Xpulse 440 could emerge as a strong contender in the adventure motorcycle segment, appealing to riders who want a balance of performance, versatility, and affordability.
    If it is the Xpulse 210, it will get the same 210 cc DOHC 4V liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from Karizma XMR 210. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch. Performance metrics might be around 26 bhp and 21 Nm. These updates will give Xpulse much-needed high-speed cruising capabilities, making it a more versatile product than it already is.
    A Strategic Move by Hero
    Hero MotoCorp’s entry into the 400cc segment is likely a strategic move to capture a growing market of adventure motorcyclists in India and beyond. Pulsar brand has been enjoying a cult following in India and is a preferred choice for many. In 125cc segment, Bajaj has added a new Pulsar, bridging more excitement to the masses than it did before.
    Of course, we’re talking about the just launched Bajaj Pulsar N125 boasting an exciting new design along with best-in-segment performance credentials. But is it enough to take on the competition which includes TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R? Considering that 125cc Pulsars (Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125) are Bajaj’s best-selling offerings, will new Pulsar N125 push the envelope further? Let’s take a look.

    Bajaj Pulsar N125 First-Ride Review
    The company arranged a media drive for Pulsar N125 at Raftaar Gokarting Track in Pune, Maharashtra. Bajaj provided Rushlane with top-spec Pulsar N125 LED Disc BT Variant in Ebony Black Purple Fury shade for a short ride. This colourway looked a lot more appealing than the other two colourways – Ebony Black Cocktail Wine Red and Pewter Grey Citrus Rush. Base LED Disc variant is offered in Pearl Metallic White, Ebony Black, Cocktail Wine Red and Carribean Blue.
    As the name suggests, LED Disc BT variant comes with a Bluetooth-equipped instrument console priced at Rs 98,707 (Ex-sh), while the base LED Disc is priced at Rs 94,707 (Ex-sh). Prices are in line with what rivals are offering, considering the equipment on board. Within Bajaj’s 125cc Pulsar lineup, Pulsar N125 is positioned above Classic Pulsar 125 and below Pulsar NS125.

    Where design is concerned, I think Bajaj has hit it out of the park this time around. Pulsar N125 gets a refreshing new design language which is edgy and has a lot of presence. It is sporty in appearance and is the sharpest-looking 125cc Pulsar Bajaj ever sold. With premium 125cc segment booming, Pulsar N125 fits right in and aims to carve out a niche for itself, setting it apart from TVS Raider and Hero Xtreme 125R.

    How does it look?
    Before the launch, Pulsar N125 was speculated to be an ADV-type offering as test mules showed a few ADV-like elements. These have been carried over in the production model. For example, we have a long split seat, a pronounced grab rail for pillion, a headlight design shaped like it has a tiny faux beak and the segment-best 198 mm ground clearance. Despite being high off the ground, Pulsar N125 has an accessible seat height of 795 mm.

    Main draw for Pulsar N125 is that it has beefy suspension covers, lending a macho appeal. A chiseled fuel tank, muscular tank shrouds extending into its engine bay, angular body panels and striking dual-tone floating panels are other notable elements. Headlight assembly is a dual-pod element with vertically stacked chambers populated by LEDs. Rear has neatly laid out LED tail lights, which encompass Pulsar DNA. Beneath front fork covers, we have RSU telescopic forks, while rear gets a mono-shock setup. Keeping the bike compact is an underbelly exhaust.

    17-inch alloy wheels remind me of Pulsar P150 (RIP). Switchgear has all the elements one would expect with a 125cc motorcycle. To control Bluetooth-equipped instrument cluster, there is a Mode button as well. Bajaj is offering a Type-A USB charging port on fuel tank. Right-side switchgear has a toggle for auto engine start/stop feature too. Only the front wheel gets disc brake and Bajaj is offering CBS, leaving Xtreme 125R as the only one in this segment to offer single-channel ABS.

    Ride, Handling and Performance
    Bajaj arranged the media drive for Pulsar at Raftaar Gokarting Track in Pune, for a reason. This Go Karting track is perfect to test slow-speed manoeuvrability of Pulsar N125 along with its handling characteristics at a higher pace. Before that, we have to get engine’s performance metrics out of the way. So, a 124.58 cc engine generates 12 PS at 8,500 RPM and 11 Nm at 6,000 RPM, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

    12 PS is segment best, but is the same as Pulsar NS125’s numbers. However, Pulsar NS125 weighs a hefty 144 kg, whereas Pulsar N125 weighs only 125 kg. Thus Pulsar N125 claims the highest power-to-weight ratio of 96 PS per tonne, which is again best-in-segment. In real-world conditions, these numbers do translate well and ensure peppy performance with enough vigour to thrill riders.

    Acceleration is brisk where 125cc premium commuters are concerned and Pulsar N125 has a youthful character. 1,295 mm wheelbase is not the shortest in this segment, nor is it the longest, offering a right blend of straight-line stability and handling. In city traffic, Pulsar N125 was easy to flick around. This bike inspires confidence to be playful and have a thrilling commute. Bajaj claims around 97 km/h top speed, but the bike reached 110 km/h in our testing (speedo indicated).

    Suspension is neutral as it offers a decent blend of great handling and bump absorption. 198 mm ground clearance ensured that we did not bottom out on bad patches of roads, which are frequent occurrences in Pune. Braking is par for this segment and offers a good bite to bring this machine to a halt. Weighing less definitely contributes to good braking feedback.

    Conclusion
    Concluding Bajaj Pulsar N125 is very easy. It is the lightest 125cc Pulsar sold by Bajaj and we think it is the sportiest to look at. With Pulsar N125, Bajaj is expanding its best-selling segment and is offering tough competition to TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R. It looks the part and offers highest ground clearance, which is unique in this segment.

    However, Pulsar N125 is not perfect. Hero is offering single-channel ABS and LED turn indicators, which Bajaj could have offered as well. TVS Raider offers the best TFT instrument cluster in this segment with a plethora of features. In contrast, Bajaj Pulsar N125’s LCD cluster lacks basic features like a tachometer and gear position indicator. Bluetooth connectivity is also very limited in functionality as there is no navigation feature.

    There could have been a variant with drum brakes at the front, for an even more accessible base price. Also, the Automatic engine stop/start feature was not working on our unit during the testing. Which was a bummer. Instrument cluster showed a real-time fuel economy of around 31 km/l, which is not accurate considering that it is a new vehicle and will yield more mileage (fuel efficiency) with time.     With the launch of Karizma XMR 210, Hero MotoCorp made a very bold statement. For the first time, Hero MotoCorp made a massive leap in engine technology, componentry and equipment. Now, there seems to be an even better version of it as suggested by leaked design patents of what looks like Hero Karizma 250.

    World’s leading motorcycle manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is systematically upping its game in the premium segment. We have seen a new line of Premia dealerships dedicated to premium vehicles. These showrooms should be populated with offerings to increase footfall and that’s exactly what Hero seems to be doing.
    The company has showcased a bunch of probable upcoming vehicles at 2023 EICMA Show. Among these vehicles, one of the most interesting was Hero 2.5R Xtunt Concept. There have been test mules spotted in India of what looks like an Xtreme 210R, bearing design ethos seen on 2.5R Xtunt Concept.
    However, new design leaks from Hero has confirmed that there will be a new version of Karizma fully-fired motorcycle and it will feature much better components and improved aerodynamic design. As seen in the leaked design, Some of the components look like they are taken from the Xtunt Concept.

    Fuel tank looks like it is a lot more aggressive and bears resemblance to the one seen on 2.5R Xtunt Concept. There seem to be slight changes to the fairing, but we now get aerodynamic winglets at the front, which might be functional in adding a few kg of downforce for added dynamic capability.
    Also improving handling characteristics is the addition of USD telescopic front forks, for the first time on Karizma. The bike’s main frame and subframe along with wheels, seats and ORVMs look similar to the ones seen on Karizma XMR 210 on sale in India. One could speculate that it will bear an engine displacing 250cc, developing close to 30 bhp and 25 Nm.
    Is it a Pro version of Karizma?
    Considering all the similarities the upcoming Hero Karizma 250 has with current model, one could also speculate that the leaked design is a Pro version of Karizma XMR 210 with better components. A strategy that Hero follows with Xpulse 200 4V and Xpulse 200 4V Pro.

    If this turns out to be true, we can expect Karizma to retain its 210cc DOHC 4V single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with 25.15 bhp and 20.4 Nm.     Pulsar N125 appears to be the sportiest of this trio, while Pulsar NS125 looks the bulkiest, owing to its larger proportions and higher weight. Design-wise, the Pulsar N125 emerges as a handsome machine. Sticking with its Pulsar family genes, Pulsar N125 gets an aggressive design. Muscular tank shrouds and edgy headlight design are stand-out elements.

    Also notable with Pulsar N125 is a sculpted fuel tank, split seat design, single-piece rear pillion grab rail, a chunky tyre hugger, among others. Like Freedom 125, Pulsar N125 also gets muscular covers on its RSU telescopic front forks, contributing to its macho appearance.

    Headlights are LEDs and they are vertically stacked. Rear tail lights are LEDs too and resemble other Pulsars. However, turn indicators are all halogen, unlike Hero Xtreme 125R. Looking at the motorcycle, one can see that the rider’s triangle is fairly upright, but with a slight lean on the handlebars.

    Specs and Features
    Where Powertrains are concerned, Bajaj has gone with a 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder motor that is capable of kicking out 11.8 bhp of peak power and 11 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. These are similar numbers to what we saw with the Pulsar NS125, but Pulsar N125 weighs less, giving a better power-to-weight ratio.

    Componentry-wise, RSU telescopic front forks, rear mono-shock, front disc brake option, box section swingarm, 17-inch alloy wheels with same design as Pulsar P150’s, among others.     In other news, Bajaj Auto share price suffered a massive decline of over 12% on the BSE, down by Rs 1,450, trading at Rs 10,170 currently. Analysts suggest due to the recent Q2 results announced for the FY 2024/25 period and the muted commentary for upcoming festive season.

    Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Testbed
    Royal Enfield developing two new EV architectures
    To ensure better outcomes, Royal Enfield is working on two distinct EV architectures. One of these platforms is being developed entirely in-house. The second platform is being developed in collaboration with a European startup named Stark Future.
    As may be recalled, Royal Enfield had made a strategic investment in Stark Future in 2022. RE had purchased a 10.35% equity stake in the company, with the deal valued at €50 million (Rs 439 crore). The partnership covers collaborations in R&D, technical licensing, technology sharing and manufacturing.
    Across both EV architectures, multiple new products are currently under development. One of these has already gone beyond the prototype stage. To manage costs and supply chain constraints, Royal Enfield will be sourcing components locally as far as possible. The company has already inked supply deals with 11-12 key EV vendors.
    These partnerships go beyond the battery packs. Imports will be an option only where such parts may not be available locally. On the distribution front, Royal Enfield is thinking about various options. It is possible that the company may launch entirely new outlets for its EVs. Royal Enfield is also building a strong team to power its EV business. Recent hires include former Ducati veteran Mario Alvisi and ex-Ola Electric official Umesh Krishnappa.
    Royal Enfield EVs won’t get the thump
    While it is difficult to imagine Royal Enfield bikes without the signature thumping exhaust note, the EVs will be completely silent. RE is not even planning to use speakers, as it will feel like a fake experience. The thump with Royal Enfield ICE motorcycles is natural, linked to the bike’s rhythm. It is part of the bike’s haptic response system. Doing the same with an EV using a speaker will feel quite unreal.     BYD eMAX 7 Launch Price Rs 26.9 Lakh – 530 km Range, 71.8 kWh Battery

    India’s premium MPV space just witnessed a new launch in the form of BYD eMAX 7. Not only is this a premium MPV, but it is powered by electric powertrains, promising a quiet and comfortable journey for occupants. BYD has priced it at Rs 26.9 lakh (Ex-sh), which is a tempting proposition for MPV buyers in India.

    With the launch of BYD eMAX 7, the company has unlocked a new chapter by refining its offerings in this segment. It has to be noted that eMAX 7 is the successor of the now-discontinued e6 MPV. There are four colours to choose from – Cosmos Black, Crystal White, Harbour Grey and Quartz Blue.

    BYD has launched eMAX 7 in two trim levels – Premium and Superior, catering to a wider audience. While Premium trim comes with a 55.4 kWh battery pack promising 420 km of range on a single charge (NEDC), Superior boasts a larger 71.8 kWh battery pack with 530 km on a single charge (NEDC).
    BYD eMAX 7 Colour
    Premium supports a maximum of 89 kW DC charging, while Superior can charge at speeds up to 115 kW DC. Where AC charging is concerned, both get 7 kW support. Both trims come equipped with a sole 310 Nm electric motor driving the front wheels with 180 km/h top speed. Premium packs 161 bhp of peak power with 10.1s 0-100 km/h and Superior has 201 bhp with 8.6s 0-100 km/h sprint.

    Where dimensions are concerned, BYD eMAX 7 measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, 1,690 mm in height and a long 2,800 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 170 mm and there is a 180L boot space with 3rd row up, which can be expanded to 580L with 3rd row folded down.

    BYD eMAX 7 comes with all four disc brakes as standard. It has to be noted that only the front discs are ventilated type. 17-inch alloy wheels are standard too, wrapped with 225/55-R17 tyres. When compared to e6, eMAX 7 boasts a lot more soothing and mature design. It has a Dragon Face design with a handsome fascia.

    Both LED headlights are connected with a strip in the middle that also carries BYD logo. Front bumper has an interesting design to reduce visual bulk and creases on the tapering bonnet give some aggression. Charging port is at the rear right quarter panel and Superior trim also offers an electrically operated tailgate.

    On the inside, well laid-out dashboard along with a three-spoke steering take centre stage. BYD eMAX 7 comes with both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations and synthetic leather seat upholstery is standard. Depending on the trim, both front seats are electrically adjustable and have a ventilation function.

    The main highlight is that it has a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Instrument cluster gets a 5-inch TFT display. Other notable features include a panoramic glass roof, automatic climate control, all-row AC vents, VTO (Vehicle To Load), keyless entry, NFC key card, wireless charger, air purifier and Black+Brown interiors, among others.
