Ola Electric August 15th Event – Electric Car, Scooter, Battery, Factory Revealed

Ola is set out to launch a family of products spawning electric cars, scooters powered by an indigenously developed batteryOla Electric EV RoadmapWe all know that Ola Electric came with a big bang by changing our perspective as to what a modern electric scooter should be like. We saw the success of S1 Pro and also Ola’s constant perseverance in bettering its products with precious OTA updates in the form of Move OS 3 expected to hit around Diwali. And now, Ola wants to dance with the big boys. We’re not talking about just in electric 2-wheeler space. Ola has a lot more to offer and has been hiding its aces up its sleeves. Now is the time to unfold. Let’s unfold.New Ola S1 Electric ScooterOla has revealed the S1 scooter as hinted on social media. It sits below S1 Pro, which is currently on sale and gets a lower price. By doing this, Ola is now able to hit the sweet sweet Rs. 1 lakh mark where Ather is also planning to launch a product. Also, with Honda venturing into this electric scooter space in 2023, things will heat up considerably. Futuristic Electric Activa is likely to arrive in 2023.Ola S1 has a 3kW battery claiming an ARAI-certified range of 131 km. It is capable of covering 128 km in Eco mode, 101 km in Normal mode, and 90 Km in Sports mode. Top speed is capped at 90 km/hr though. It gets the same chassis, and also the design along with most of S1 Pro’s features too.Ola Electric S1 PriceAt Rs. 99,999 (ex-sh) introductory price, it is a tempting deal that can be booked today for Rs. 499. Deliveries will start on 7th September. Colours on offer with Ola S1 are – Neo Mint, Porcelain White, Coral Glam, Jet Black, Liquid SilverOla Electric CarOla’s wildest product to date has to be its new electric car. It is pitted as the fastest car in India. Zero to a hundred km/hr in 4 seconds and will have more than 500 km of charge in a single charge. It also boasts a 0.21 Cd air drag coefficient. It will run on Move OS which is developed by Ola in-house. We can expect 6 different electric cars based on two different platforms in the future. These are the technical terms. But what will it look like? This upcoming unnamed electric car by Ola will be Built in India, for Indians, for the world. For starters, it does look a lot like Lucid Air which is pitted as a Tesla Model S killer. Ola’s car will get a glass roof just like Lucid’s and also has a sloping Coupe roofline like Lucid’s. Ola also claims 0.21 Cd air drag coefficient which is really impressive if pulled off. I mean, Mercedes Benz EQS has 0.2 Cd and is currently unrivaled in series production cars.Ola Electric CarIndigenous Ola Battery & Future FactoryOla also showcased its new electric battery alongside its electric car. This is completely indigenous and will be the heart and soul of future Ola Electric cars and motorcycles. It is a Li-ion cell set to produce in Ola’s Gigafactory. These batteries will make it on Ola vehicles by next year once all testing processes are complete. Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal also showed off a prototype battery pack that consisted of these battery cells. In one year, Ola has built India’s largest tubular factory. Ola aims at making India a global epicenter for EV manufacturing. Ola Battery Innovation Centre spread across half a million sqft specializes in electric vehicle batteries. It boasts cutting-edge tech with battery safety testing given the most priority. Ola aims at establishing the largest EV factory in India.Ola Electric Factory Floor PlanThe company is set to expand its setup to include a car manufacturing plant with a capacity of 1 million units. Ola plant premises to include a 100gWh cell manufacturing facility. 200 acres have been kept for 4-wheeler manufacturing, 40 acres for two-wheeler factory and 100 acres for cell plant.Ola bets big on the future of mobility – electric cars and scootersAs we can see from the plans, Ola’s Future Factory will have a production capacity of 1 million cars, 10 million 2Ws, and 100 GWh. These are very steep claims for a startup company. But as we have come to expect from Ola, we might see Ola’s claims become reality soon.Ola Electric Car Factory Floor PlanWith plans to dive deep into future demand, Ola has worked hard even before their first launch. This concerted effort has ensured the company is already a big and notable player in the e2W industry. And it has its eyes set on cell development and multiple electric cars. While S1 deliveries will commence in September, Ola electric car will arrive in 2024. We can expect Ola’s indigenous batteries to have passed all testing phases by 2023. More

Ola Electric New Launch On 15th Aug – New Car, Scooter?

It was on 15th Aug last year that Ola S1 Pro was officially launched – This year on the same date, Ola is getting ready for a new launchOla Electric Is Set To Reveal Multiple Products On August 15thOla Electric is one of those electric scooter startups that actually made it big by targeting a premium segment. When we look at sales charts, one can easily say that Hero Electric, Okinawa and Ampere sell more electric scooters. But those are not as enthusiastic as Ola S1 Pro. And definitely don’t come with as many features and don’t perform nearly as well either. But Ola is branching out both vertically and horizontally, foraying into electric cars, indigenous batteries and more. Yeah, Ola is a little ambitious, but that’s not a bad thing. But what can we expect from August 15th event from Ola? Bhavish Aggarwal has given a hint regarding this on social media. Let’s break it down.New S1 Electric Scooter Under Rs. 1 lakhDespite only launching a premium product at a higher price bracket, without any ‘slow-segment’ EVs, Ola has come a long way. But Ola was supposed to launch the S1 alongside S1 Pro. Which we all by now, never happened. With recent price hikes, Ola S1 Pro now costs Rs. 1.4 lakh. There is a place in the market for Ola to finally launch its S1 with the same design as S1 Pro. We can expect a smaller 2.98 kWh battery with 120 km range, and 90 km/h top speed. It also gets fewer features too. S1 is the first of options Aggarwal hinted at, setting priority as it will launch for around Rs. 1 lakh and might run on Move OS 3 from day one. This price bracket is stark important for Ola as Ather Energy is also developing a product for this price bracket.Ola Electric New Launch – 15th AugOla Electric CarAggarwal had teased three Electric Cars, a low-slung sedan and the other two may be an SUV and a hatchback. Four-wheeled PVs have been Ola’s ambition since day one and the company’s mother factory is said to be developed keeping that in mind. Last month, Ola also claimed that their electric car will be the sportiest car ever built in India. Raising a lot of eyebrows. Our rendering artist Pratyush Raut had envisioned Ola’s first electric car based on teasers shared by Bhavish Aggarwal. It looks a lot like Lucid Air, at least from the front. Not a lot is known about this car and makes it to Aggarwal’s list of products in second spot.A Cell FactoryNext in line among the probable launches by Ola, is an indigenous battery production facility. Apart from Ola maps, Aggarwal had also shown off a cell with Ola branding on it on social media last month. Specifications were not mentioned at all. We don’t know whether it’ll be an 18650 or 21750 cell, or how much is the capacity per cell, or the battery chemistry, or anything at all. But all those details may be revealed on August 15th along with where the manufacturing facility will be located.A New Colour For S1 ProLast on the list, is a new colour for S1 range of electric scooters. Currently, S1 Pro is offered with 10 colour options Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Black, White, Grey, Bidge, Dark Blue, and Dark grey. Apart from limited Gerua shade, Ola is set to launch a new colour. Even though Bhaish Aggarwal asks us to guess what Ola will launch among the four choices, it is highly likely that the company will launch all four. More

Ola Electric Scooter Move OS 3 Launch On Diwali 2022 – First Teaser

Ola Move OS 3 is expected to launch around Diwali, on time, unlike Move OS 2.0 which saw multiple delaysOla Electric Scooter Move OS 3 Launch TeaserOla Electric continues to promise new features for their S1 Pro electric scooter. But the good news is that most of the promised features have been released, even though they took their own sweet time. This attribute induces trust and confidence towards this startup brand that is aiming big in little time. We say this because Ola is already promising an electric car. Yeah!Ola Electric has seen quite a few setbacks too. The fire hazard incident that took place in Pune, an S1 Pro customer set his electric scooter on fire because he claimed it was unusable and a few incidents where the front single-sided suspension fork broke. But in a world where the Takata airbag recall blunder exists that affected 7 crore vehicles worldwide with faulty airbags, Ola S1 Pro niggles are tiny.Ola Move OS 3 Launch TimelineOla Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal recently took to social media platforms to announce the Move OS 3.0 which is set to release for everyone. Not just select customers for pilot testing, everyone. That is a big promise. In that light, we can expect Move OS 3 pilot runs for select customers way before Diwali. What is Move OS 3? Good question. Ola S1 Pro electric scooter is a new gen scooter with advanced connectivity which enables OTA updates. These updates are similar to software updates we get on our mobiles and other computing devices. Ola software updates can alter vehicle parameters and also give feature additions.Ola Electric Scooter Move OS 3 Launch on Diwali 2022So, what can we expect from Move OS 3 over Move OS 2? Bhavish Aggarwal has promised some feature upgrades and additions that will add value to existing S1 Pro users in the way they interact with their electric scooter. Among many, some feature additions disclosed by Ola CEO are hill hold, proximity unlock, moods, regen v2, hyper charging, calling, and key sharing. Of these, he has teased the Moods feature of Ola Electric scooter Move OS 3 in the video below. What Is New?Hill hold helps users while starting on an incline where the scooter will not roll back. Proximity unlock is similar to request sensors we have on cars where the vehicle will detect that a key is near, in S1 Pro’s case, a phone. Moods might be swappable themes for the instrument console. While regen v2 refers to the new software that controls regenerative braking allowing finer control or changed regen intensity.Hypercharging can mean that Ola is now allowing more voltage or amperage, hence increasing the wattage of charging with this Move OS 3. This will reduce the charging time by some margin. Calling feature might introduce a digital keypad on the touchscreen instrument cluster or allow you to take calls from the scooter’s speakers directly or both, if that’s your jam (weirdly). Lastly, we have key sharing allowing other people to access an Ola scooter with temporary or permanent access with their phones instead of the user’s phone.Testing out the Moods feature in MoveOS 3.This one is for those who still have an ICE hangover! I’ll not take names ? pic.twitter.com/Z70eZpOcN8— Bhavish Aggarwal (@bhash) July 17, 2022Looking at the timeframe Move OS 2 took to launch and multiple delays, we have split opinions on whether Ola Electric can pull off the Diwali timeframe for Move OS 3. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal lauds Ola Engineering for executing this software at this speed. This means software has already been compiled and will now be under testing. Speed is good. But with development and refinement of software and hardware, speed is a recipe for disaster.  More

Ola Electric Scooter Owner Records 303 Km Range On Single Charge

At least two Ola S1 Pro electric scooter owners have claimed that they have achieved over 300 kms rangeOla Electric Scooter Range Record 300 KmsOla Electric has had a massive start with the launch of the S1 pro electric scooter. But as we saw with recent buying trends, Ola Electric is actually losing market share to competition. In June 2022, Ola Electric had a market share of 14.70% while trailing behind the likes of Okinawa, Ampere and Hero Electric, but not by a huge margin.Ola S1 Pro electric scooter delivers one of the highest range. Claimed range stands at about 180 kms. But there have been multiple instances where owners have managed to cross the 200 kms mark. Now, some owners are even claiming 300 kms range from a single charge.Ola S1 Pro 300 Km RangeAn Ola S1 Pro owner by the name Jigar Bharda has clocked a range of 303 km on a single charge which is a massive feat. Helping him achieve this is Ola S1 Pro’s large 3.97 kWh battery pack and a planned 303 km commute with 23 kph average speed and 40 kph top speed and the new Eco Mode unlocked with Move OS 2.0.When we divide the 303km range with 23 kph average speed, the owner took over 13 hours to finish it. At the end, the scooter was in a 6% state of charge with only 1 km range left as indicated by the instrument console. This test was done in Eco Mode which was added with the new Move OS 2.0.Ola Electric Scooter Range Record 300 KmsAnother Ola Electric Scooter owner has also claimed to have achieved 300+ kms range on a single charge. Satyendra Yadav shared a photo on Twitter, with 300 kms range and 5% battery left. He rode at an average speed of 20 kmph and managed top speed of 38 kmph in the run. We have seen Ola Electric awarding free S1 Pro to owners who crossed the 200km barrier. Wonder what Bhavish Aggarwal will award customers crossing 300 km. Two Ola S1 Pro? Or an upcoming Ola Car? Time will tell.Ola Electric Battery CellWith Ather taking a dig at Ola about how safe their EVs are and Simple Energy One on the corner, Ola has to do better to stay ahead of the competition. Developing their own battery cells was on Ola Electric’s roadmap. But since the S1 Pro is based on the Etergo Scooter, it retained the same battery too. To keep production costs in check for next-gen electric scooters and the upcoming Ola Electric car, Ola has come up with an in-house developed battery cell. This new battery cell was revealed by Ola Electric CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal on social media. He claims that it is their first indigenous Li-ion battery cell. Aggarwal also revealed that there is more to come in their cell technology roadmap too. This hints to us that an indigenous battery pack with an indigenous BMS along with a cooling system around this new cell is Ola Electric’s next big step.New Ola CellAggarwal didn’t reveal any technical specifications about this new battery cell though. It is not yet known whether it is an 18,650 cell or a 21,700 cell. Taking 21,700 as an example, 21mm is the diameter of the battery and 700mm is the length of the battery. Ola CEO also didn’t reveal the energy density, energy capacity, or battery chemistry either. From the looks of it, Ola Electric seems to be following Tesla Motor’s footsteps. Initially, Tesla licensed Panasonic 18,650 cells and while planning for Model 3, Tesla manufactured its own 21,700 cells for costs and manufacturing scaling. More

OLA Electric Cars Teased Officially – New Premium Sedan, SUV, Hatch?

Ola’s first electric car will be made at the company’s upcoming mother plant in Tamil NaduOla Electric CarIt is no secret that Ola Electric, soon after the launch of its S1 electric scooter, has been eyeing the Indian electric four wheeler segment which is projected to have an immense potential. It appears that, even as the company is facing several complaints related to the quality, reliability and delivery timeline issues of its S1 scooter, developing activities of the upcoming electric car are proceeding in full swing. On the sidelines of the ‘Ola Customer Day’ event held at the site of the company’s upcoming facility near Krishnagiri, TN, the EV startup released a teaser video of its upcoming premium electric cars. The 30 second teaser shows teaser of more than one Ola electric car.OLA Electric Car – Hatch, Sedan, SUV Teased ?New Ola electric car teaser gives us a sneak peak of not 1, but 3 electric cars. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Snehal Praveen for the update. One of the upcoming Ola electric car, as the teaser indicates, could be a low-slung sporty sedan with a coupe roof-line and modern design. Other two could be an electric SUV / coupe and hatchback. The Ola sedan takes a lot of aerodynamic liberty in its exterior styling which would otherwise be challenging in a conventional IC engine car like an extremely low slung nose. Salient design features include a wedged shaped front fascia, an LED lighting signature that runs across the width of the car, a swooping roofline, and Kia-like rear fascia.[embedded content][embedded content]No further details have been shared as of now but Ola Electric’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal stated that more details will be revealed on August 15. There were reports that Ola has hired ex-Mahindra designer – Ramkripa Ananthan, who designed the current XUV700, Thar, XUV300. Ola Electric’s venture into the passenger car segment is expected in about 2 year’s time. That said, the product development process is usually hurried in a startup setting compared to a traditional OEM.What to expect? For instance, basing the product on an already existing electric skateboard from any of the several international mobility players would considerably shorten the lead time. The powertrain configuration is anyone’s guess as of now, and we think it is going to be one motor at each wheel, supported by a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of around 60-80 kWh.Aided by an impressively low aerodynamic co-efficient and frontal area, such a battery pack could be good enough for a certified range of over 500 km. A 0-100 kph time of less than 7 seconds and a top-speed in excess of 150 kmph would be a nice place to start in terms of performance. These numbers might be similar for their sedan, hatchback and SUV, or they could be different.Ola electric cars teased – SUV, Sedan, and hatchback ?New Ola electric cars could be positioned in various segments of the Indian electric vehicle space. Ola hatchback could be the most affordable, above which could be their sedan and on top will be the electric SUV offering. One can expect a lengthy equipment list complete with ADAS features.Demand for electric vehicles is on the rise. Major OEMs like Tata, Kia, Mahindra, Hyundai have committed to launch more new EVs in India. Even premium brands like Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, etc have joined the EV revolution. With Tesla reportedly putting their India launch plans on hold, things could work in favour of Ola Electric cars. More

Ola Electric Scooter Delivery Time – Some Get It In Under 24 Hours

Ola S1 Pro commits to guaranteed delivery in 14 Days, and in some instances does so within 24 hoursOla Electric Scooter. Image – Yogesh LabdeA few recent tweets point to customers receiving the Ola S1 Pro in under a week, while awaiting the OS update to match pace. To this end, the company has already made an announcement that a number of customers will get their MoveOS 2 Beta starting on June 1, 2022. This is as per company plans following the opening of its 3rd purchase window. Some deliveries were made as quickly as 5 days from payment. And some in under 24 hours. Since launch, Ola has streamlined bookings for S1 Pro through specified booking windows announced by the company. The most recent was announced for May 21, 2022. The company had done the same back in March 2022.Prompt booking and deliveryTo ensure a seamless process, prospective buyers first make a booking for 499 bucks. To confirm a purchase, a payment of 20k is to be made when the purchase window opens. For those who make a timely reservation, further details are elaborated in an email. The delivery process for Ola Electric is new, and could be one that works brilliantly.  Instead of waiting to set up brick and mortar stores in city after city, Ola is opting for doorstep deliveries. For those keen on a test drive, one can select a time slot at one of the test locations in a particular city. And now, with an email commitment of delivery in 14 days, that’s pretty much all it takes. As is evident, customers needn’t even wait for two weeks. Prompt booking, and optimized manufacturing to meet ongoing demand continues to help Ola tweak ops.Probably the first time in the world, that people have gotten their vehicles delivered in under 24 hours from payment, that too fully registered. We’re loving the customer reactions to #DeliveryInHyperMode ? pic.twitter.com/XM3EY1YXWQ— Bhavish Aggarwal (@bhash) May 24, 2022Ola sales growthThis is more than necessary. The electric scooter manufacturer has set itself competitive goals. Foremost is its quest to be on top of the sales chart. Currently this doesn’t seem a difficult task. Quite simply, while the electric scooter is moving forward in leaps and bounds, total segment volumes are still low.Ola has in quick time reached atop the sales chart having done better than Hero Electric and Okinawa last month. All three companies, and a few others are currently under immense public scrutiny owing to reported fire incidents. Hero Electric announced zero dispatches for April 2022 owing to the ongoing global chips shortage.Electric scooter segment growthWith a range of concerns clawing at the industry, it’s clear that the electric scooter segment does have teething issues. Concurrently, improved sales and demand point to improved buyer interest. The number of electric two wheelers available today continues to increase. This in turn gives buyers a real choice.Confidence in the electric scooter is evident from the price points they are available at. A growing number of electric scooters are already available at a higher price point than high-selling petrol scooters. Total two-wheeler segment sales in India surpasses 10 lakhs easily, each month. And total electric scooter sales are soon expected to be a sizeable contributor.  More

Ola Maps In The Making – For S1 Pro, Upcoming Electric Car

Currently, Ola uses mapping services by MapmyIndia for GPS, navigation and maps on the S1 Pro on the Move OS 2.0 firmwareImage – MasterMind TechOla has been in the news time and time again for various controversies. Amidst all controversies, the company has catapulted itself from struggling to get its products delivered, to becoming the largest electric scooter manufacturer in India by sales and volumes. Recently, the S1 Pro crossed the 200 km mark on a single charge.Ola has established itself as a major electric scooter manufacturer in India. Now, the company is working on improving its products and delivering all the features that were promised at launch with the Move OS 2.0 update.Ola Mapping ServicesEvery company that has an online presence, uses mapping services to position itself on the internet. But for automotive companies like Ola, mapping services are a lot more complicated than that. Ola has to integrate maps, GPS, features and custom attribute data in their applications. As of now, the company is using MapmyIndia as their current custom mapping service provider. Through MapmyIndia, they can host features like integrating charging stations, charging station operating status, service station status and experience places.Ola Electric ScooterMapping services take geological information systems (GIS) from GIS vendors to form the base map on which they add layers of mapping information, business information and other services. For the navigation system to work on the S1 Pro with Move OS 2.0, Ola has chosen MapmyIndia. The problem arises as MapmyIndia has a lot of clients other than Ola. According to industry insider Yogesh Brar, Ola is developing its own mapping services like the American company Tesla did. This way, Ola can have complete control over what exactly they want their navigation system to show. It also allows them to achieve their roadmap earlier and fulfill their vision just like they envisioned.Move OS 2.0Ola’s indigenous mapping services will not be incorporated into the upcoming Move OS 2.0 update. The update is likely to roll out to the public by the end of June. Move OS 2.0 is only expected to bring music playback, navigation, smartphone connectivity, a new Eco mode and keyless locking/unlocking via the connected phone. Cruise control feature will be added in a future update.Ola hasn’t confirmed if they’ll incorporate their in-house developed mapping services in their S1 and S1 Pro with a future update or will it debut with Ola’s next electric scooter or their upcoming electric car. For now, Ola is still using MapmyIndia as its mapping service provider. This enables the navigation systems on S1 Pro with Move OS 2.0 update.Source More
