Ola Electric Scooter Problems Reported – Owner Gets Free Replacement

One owner got delivered damaged Ola Electric ScooterAfter delayed deliveries, Ola electric scooters face new challenges as owners point out to multiple issues
Ambitious plans take a lot of courage and they often have to face numerous challenges along the way. Something similar appears to be happening with Ola Electric that aims to become the largest producer of electric scooters in the country.
While the scooters are well-equipped with several best-in-class features, things are not exactly working out as expected for some users. These owners have now shared their experiences online and are expecting to get a resolution soon.
Ola electric scooter owner reporting problem
Ola electric scooter – post-delivery issues
One user has reported that his Ola S1 Pro started experiencing problems soon after delivery. After riding just around 6 km, the owner noticed problems such as screeching noises and headlight issues. The scooter was subsequently towed away for repairs. When the scooter was delivered back, the owner noticed broken number plate and oil marks on the scooter. On its part, Ola Electric has offered to fix the reported issues.
Furthermore, the owner said the scooter was used for around 19 km while it was with the service team. He was also not happy with the fact that documentation for the repairs was not provided.
    Ola electric scooter range issues
In another case, a Visakhapatnam-based Ola S1 Pro owner has reported that his scooter was delivered with cracks and dents all over the body. Although customer care team has assured that repairs will be done, the owner said he purchased a new product and not a refurbished product.
    Ola electric scooter free replacement
The owner also pointed out to the gap between the LCD panel. According to him, this fault can potentially damage the panel if exposed to water or rain. In this case, Ola has replied that the owner will be getting a free replacement of a brand new Ola electric scooter in pristine condition.
Ola electric scooter – insurance charges and range issue
An Ola electric scooter owner has pointed out the difference between the amount charged for insurance and the actual premium amount mentioned in policy document. As against Rs 7,471 paid, the policy document shows only Rs 6,695. As of now, Ola scooter buyers have to go with insurance chosen by the company.

Ola scooter users have also reported issues with range. In real world conditions, range is less than certified range of 121 km for Ola S1 and 181 km for S1 Pro. Ola has already issued an advisory for this in an earlier communication.
As compared to the conventional ecosystem of dealerships, Ola Electric is following an entirely online approach. Scooters are delivered and serviced at the user’s address. For repairs and other jobs that cannot be done onsite, it is likely that Ola has partnered with third-party workshops.
Alert citizens reporting fraud being done in the name of Ola Electric scooter dealership
Some have also reported of fraud by unknown parties. There have been cases where fraudsters shared fake links for making payment of Ola electric scooter. Another fraud that is going on in the name of Ola Electric, is fraudsters are asking for advance payment for setting up dealership of Ola Electric.
As this is a new way of managing after-sales services, it is likely to face problems. This is exactly what appears to be happening right now. Hopefully things will improve in future, as problems are identified and resolved. Ola is working with owners to fix issues they are facing. More

Ola Electric Scooter True Range 135 Kms – How To Achieve In Real World

    Image – Bhavish Aggarwal
Ola Electric has revealed the true range for the S1 Pro e-scooter which stands at 135km on a single charge
The electric scooters from Ola generated a frenzy in the online world and continue to garner interest even four months after their unveiling due to various reasons. While electric vehicles are mobility solutions for the future, hesitancy in their acceptance remains even now. The primary reason behind this is range anxiety among the masses.
People are still concerned about the distance an EV can travel on a single charge. Ola offers a claimed range of 181 kms on S1 Pro e-scooter which sounds impressive on paper. However, expecting this range in a real-world scenario would be unreasonable and the Bengaluru-based EV startup has now come up with an explanation for it.
The company has said that the ARAI-certified range of 181 kms has been attained when tested under a controlled lab environment. However, such a condition would be vastly different when driving in a real-world scenario. Ola has also shared the true range of S1 Pro which stands at 135 kms on a single charge.
Ola Electric Scooter Range In Real World
Automotive enthusiast Anish Deshpande asked Ola about the true range of their electric scooter in real world conditions. To this, Ola Electric scooter support team has replied with specific details.
Conditions under which you can achieve the True Range of 135 kms from Ola electric scooter S1 Pro in real world
The EV maker has laid out a set of conditions for buyers to achieve this range. For starters, the 135 kms range can be achieved when only there is only the rider and no pillion. Weight of the rider has been considered 70 kgs with no other load being carried on the scooter. For city driving conditions, a maximum 3-5 percent incline has been taken into account.
The entire duration of the ride has to be covered in the Normal ride mode with a moderate riding style. Even weather conditions have been pre-defined between 24 and 35-degree celsius. Implementation of all these conditions should provide the said 135 kms range. With deliveries commencing recently, it will be interesting to hear from buyers in this regard.
Ola Electric recently started shipment of the first batch of its e-scooters across the country after several delays. There are two variants of the electric scooter on sale- S1 and S1 Pro, priced at Rs 1.0 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh (both prices ex-show) respectively. Both variants of the scooter are powered by an 8.5kW electric motor with a continuous output of 5.5 kW.
    Battery Specs
That said, S1 Pro features a larger battery pack of 3.97 kWh whereas S1 gets a smaller battery pack of 2.98 kWh. There has been no approval of a true range in S1, however, previous claims of an ARAI-rated range has been pegged at 121 kms. The true range of the base S1 trim will also be exciting to see in the coming future. More

The video shows electric scooters being dispatched from the Ola Futurefactory. Based out of Tamil Nadu, it is aiming to become the largest two-wheeler manufacturing hub in the world. This factory will be managed by an all-women workforce. Spread across 500 acres of land, this plant aims to employ 10,000 women once production goes full tilt.

    Several Delays
Earlier, Ola had pushed back the deadline for test rides and start of deliveries of its e-scooters from 25 October to 10 November. The EV brand was able to start test rides from 10 November albeit only on an invite-only basis, however, customers still had to wait for their scooters to be delivered. Ola Electric, thus far, has been able to conduct over 30,000 test rides for its customers across the country.
The EV manufacturing arm of the ride-hailing major intends to honour the latest commitment to start deliveries of scooters by 15 December. Also, Ola is scheduled to open the second window for booking of S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters starting on December 16. Ola S1 Pro Vs Ather 450X – Electric Scooters Compared Side By Side

Image – Pradeep On WheelsCompetition in EV space will be a lot more intense and brutal owing to rapidly evolving technology
Ather was among the first companies to launch their electric two-wheeler in India. Its flagship product is 450X, which has a comprehensive range of advanced features. However, 450X is likely to face stiff competition in the future from rival products like Ola S1 Pro. A side-by-side comparison between Ola S1 Pro vs Ather 450X can help understand which scooter offers more value.
Ola S1 Pro Vs Ather 450X
Ather 450X has a sporty profile, something that would appeal to young audiences. In comparison, Ola S1 Pro has a much simpler, clutter-free design. There are no unnecessary panels that could potentially increase drag. S1 Pro comes across as a cute scooter and its design is likely to be acceptable to a broader set of users. Moreover, there are 10 colour options for S1 Pro, as compared to 3 for Ather 450X.
Ola S1 Pro has better numbers in most technical aspects. For example, S1 Pro has 3.97 kWh battery pack, connected to an 8.5 kW motor that generates 58 Nm torque at motor shaft. 450X has 2.9 kWh battery pack, connected to 6 kWh motor that generates 26 Nm of peak torque. Both scooters have fixed, non-removable batteries.
In terms of range, S1 Pro offers almost double the numbers of 450X. In Normal mode, S1 Pro can travel 155 km, as compared to 85 km in Eco mode by 450X. For customers with range anxiety or folks who want to avoid frequent charging, Ola S1 Pro can be the preferred choice. However, range anxiety should not be a concern, as both manufacturers are building a wide network of fast charging stations. Take a look at the detailed comparison video below, credit to Pradeep on Wheels.
    [embedded content]
Another plus for S1 Pro is its speed and acceleration. It can reach 0-40 kmph in 3 seconds whereas 450X takes 3.3 seconds. Top speed is 115 kmph for S1 Pro and 80 kmph for 450X. When on the road, S1 Pro users can load 75 km in 18 minutes using a fast charger. 450X numbers are much less at 15 km in 10 minutes. Overall charging time at home is also faster for S1 Pro.
For everyday needs, S1 Pro offers bigger boot space as compared 450X. But there’s no lighting inside S1 Pro boot, as compared to 450X that has a small light to illuminate the underseat storage. Some users have pointed out to the protruding floorboard of S1 Pro, which can create problems for carrying items like cartons, suitcase, etc. In comparison, Ather 450X has a more useful flat floorboard.
In terms of tech features, both scooters seem to be equally capable. However, S1 Pro has some additional features such as keyless access, voice, assistant, hill hold control and cruise control.
    Image – Pradeep On Wheels
    Price
On-road price of Ather 450X in Bengaluru is Rs 1.51 lakh. In comparison, Ola S1 Pro works out cheaper at Rs 1.41 lakh. While Ola S1 Pro appears to be better equipped and also cheaper than Ather 450X, other factors can also influence consumer purchase decisions. For example, users may enquire about after sales services, maintenance cost, running cost, life of battery, etc. Build quality is another thing that users may want to assess in more detail.
It is to note that while Ather has conventional dealer and service network, Ola Electric has chosen to work directly with its customers. Ola electric scooters will be delivered directly to the customer and serviced at their preferred location. The effectiveness of this new setup remains to be tested. More

Ola Electric Scooter New Variant Likely To Be Priced In Activa, Jupiter Range

Ola electric scooterThe new affordable iteration of Ola S1 e-scooter will be followed by a new electric motorcycle
Ola is planning to launch an assault in the electric mobility space by expanding its lineup with multiple battery-powered two-wheelers in the near future. The company is even intending to foray into the passenger vehicle segment and has reportedly hired key personnel for development of an electric car.
The next big launch from the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer is another electric scooter that will be more affordable than the current S1 range. According to a new report, Ola is developing a new e-scooter that will be positioned below S1 and would be the entry-level model in the company’s two-wheeler lineup. It is likely to be called Ola Series S. Ola has already registered the name.
    Less in power, range
This new e-scooter is most likely to be based on the same S1 series and could miss out on certain features to make it more cost-friendly. The most effective way to cut costs is to replace the current 3kWh battery in S1 with a lower-rated battery. This battery could send energy to an electric motor with a smaller capacity. This would also result in more conservative performance as well as a lower single-charge range.
Even with more modest battery and motor specifications, the new e-scooter is expected to offer a range of around 100km on a single charge along with a top speed of around 75-80 kmph. However, it is too early to speculate exact numbers from the powertrain.
Ola Series S could be the name of this new upcoming electric scooter
Ola Series S Electric Scooter – Modest equipment
Ola is also expected to cut down on some features such as a touchscreen display, cruise control, speakers and keyless ignition. Other premium goodies such as remote boot lock/unlock, proximity lock/unlock, voice assistant, Wifi connectivity and geo-fencing are likely to be given a miss. The new scooter might ride on simple steel wheels instead of 12-inch alloys in the current models.
The prie of this new Ola Scooter variant will also be less. Current base variant of Ola electric scoter S1 is under Rs 1 lakh, which goes down further with FAME-II and state subsidies. The upcoming cheaper version of Ola electric scooter is expected to be priced in the Rs 70k to Rs 80k range, making it a direct rival to India’s best selling scooters Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter – in terms of price range.
    Ola S1, S1 Pro Specs
Currently Ola Electric is offering two scooters- S1 and S1 Pro which share most of the underpinnings including the same permanent magnet motor between each other. The former is powered by a 2.98kWh battery pack while the latter features a larger 3.97kWh battery. Peak output in both models is rated at 8.5 kW (11.4 bhp) and 58 Nm. While S1 returns a range of 121km, the more premium S1 Pro returns 181km on a full charge.
Top speed on S1 is restricted at 90 kmph whereas S1 Pro can reach a top speed of 115 kmph. It takes 4 hours and 48 minutes for the smaller battery pack and 6.5 hours for the larger battery pack to get fully charged using a standard AC charger. On using Ola’s fast charger, it could replenish a 75km range for 18 minutes of charging. While S1 weighs 121kg, S1 Pro tips the scales at 125kg.

The next phase of booking was set to start from 1st November 2021. But that has now been postponed to 16th Dec 2021.

Ola Electric Scooter Performing Stunts – Ready To Serve The Champions

Ola Electric Scooter Stunts. Image – Bhavish AggarwalOla is getting ready to start the deliveries of their electric scooters S1 and S1 Pro in the coming few days
Ola Electric has pushed back the purchase window for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters by a month and a half. Initially, the second window to buy the e-scooters was scheduled to open on November 1. Now, the second purchase window will commence on December 16.
This development comes after the Bengaluru-based EV startup failed to meet its October delivery deadline. Ola said the booking date was pushed back to deal with increasing demand and to minimise the time between booking and delivery of the scooters.
    Ola Electric Scooter Stunts
While Ola S1 offers a range of around 120 km on a single charge, the more premium S1 Pro returns a range of 180km on a single charge. While the former is powered by a 2.98kWh battery pack, the latter gets a 3.97kWh battery. Both scooters feature an 8.5 kW electric motor that delivers an output of 11 bhp and 58 Nm of peak torque. The scooters are based on the Dutch-based Etergo Appscooter.
Electric scooter brands like Ather and Ola are likely to be charged up extra, post Rajiv Bajaj’s ‘Breakfast of Champions‘ comment. To showcase the performance of these new electric scooters, their CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has shared a new video on social media. This shows Ola S1 PRO performing stunts which were believed to have not been possible with electric scooters.
    [embedded content]
S1 and S1 Pro are currently being manufactured at Ola’s recently inaugurated facility in Hosur which is spread over 100 acres. The fact that this manufacturing facility is completely operated by women is very unique. It also revealed that at full capacity, Ola Electric will employ 10,000 people which would make it the world’s largest women-only factory.
    Focus on clearing backlogs
The company is currently focused on fulfilling existing orders before accepting new ones. Production of the electric scooters recently commenced and it appears that it would take some time for Ola to clear its backlog of deliveries. It should also be pointed out that the EV manufacturing arm of the ride-hailing major hasn’t started delivering the scooters to owners of the first batch yet.
Interested buyers can still reserve a slot for the upcoming purchase windows through the official company website a token amount of Rs 499. The firm will soon reach out to its customers in the coming weeks to schedule test rides of the scooters. Ola Electric hasn’t established any dealership network as of now and that has made it practically impossible for any interested buyer to get a test ride before purchasing one.
    Price
However, things will remain same for consumers who have already booked their scooter for Rs 20,000 during the first purchase window on 15 and 16 September. The final payment window for such customers will open from 10 November onwards on the basis of previous communication by the company.
Ola launched S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters on August 15 at a price of Rs 1.0 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The final prices of the scooter drop significantly after considering all subsidies that can be availed under the various EV policies laid out by different state governments. More

Ola created a storm when it launched its first range of electric scooters in India on Independence Day this year. The new S1 and S1 Pro e-scooters have received a thunderous response with the ride-hailing major selling two-wheelers worth Rs 1,100 crores in the first two days of sale.
    Ola Electric Scooter Testing Continues
Deliveries of e-scooters are scheduled to begin in the next few days. However, even after launch, Ola continues to test its battery-powered scooter on road. Spy shots of the scooter being tested on the streets of Bangalore have been shared by automotive enthusiast Arya.
From the looks of it, there doesn’t seem to be any visual updates on the scooter even though front end of the two-wheeler isn’t visible in these images. Ola Electric, the EV manufacturing arm of Ola, might be testing a new variant of the e-scooter with slightly different specifications.
It could be a different battery pack or an electric motor with dissimilar output. The scooter seen in the images could also offer a new set of creature comforts. It is also possible that Ola is testing the same scooter which has been launched, with a part that is probably procured from a new vendor.
