Bajaj, KTM Confirm New High End Electric Motorcycles – Pulsar, Duke ?

Launch of Bajaj, KTM electric motorcycles will take couple of years at least, as the plan is still in initial stages2023 KTM Duke Electric – RenderElectric two-wheeler segment is expected to witness significant growth in coming years. While bulk of sales will comprise affordable, entry-level electric two-wheelers, there will be plenty of scope for lifestyle products as well. It’s the latter segment that Bajaj Auto and KTM are now looking to target.According to Executive Director of Bajaj Rakesh Sharma, the company is currently working with KTM to identify an appropriate platform for the new electric motorcycles. KTM does have an EV portfolio in international markets, but it’s limited to electric cycles and off-road e-bikes. It’s apparent that Bajaj and KTM will have to develop a new platform from scratch, which is likely to take some time.Bajaj, KTM electric motorcyclesWorking together since 2007 on multiple projects, Bajaj and KTM will further solidify their partnership by foraying into high-end electric motorcycle segment. Bajaj currently manufactures KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles, as part of that partnership. These are sold in domestic market and also exported to overseas locations.Along with premium electric motorcycles, Bajaj is also likely to develop affordable EV products in collaboration with KTM. As part of its EV push, Bajaj has built a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. This is operational and caters exclusively to manufacturing electric two-wheelers. Chetak electric scooters have started to roll out of this facility.KTM Duke Electric Motorcycle Launch PlansBajaj, KTM high-end electric motorcycles and other upcoming EVs will be manufactured at this new facility. It is a state-of-the-art facility and can be used to manufacture a wide range of electric two-wheelers. It has peak manufacturing capacity of 5 lakh units per annum. The facility also has dedicated design and R&D centres. It has been developed at an investment of around Rs 750 crore.Bajaj Auto has filed trademarks for multiple new names recently. These include Dynamo, Tecnica, Technik, Pulsar Elan, Pulsar Eleganza, etc. It is likely that Bajaj could use either of these names for their upcoming electric motorcycle. KTM has already confirmed working on a Duke based electric motorcycle.Chetak expansion plansMost of the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers currently have a limited number of products on offer. This applies to OEMs like Ampere, Ola, Ather, Revolt Motors and TVS. Bajaj currently offers only Chetak electric scooter that has been registering consistent sales every month. Sales could have been higher, but it hasn’t been possible due to global shortage of auto parts. Till date, pre-bookings for Chetak have been more than 16,000.Bajaj will be looking to boost sales in coming months, as supply situation improves globally. The company is also working to make Chetak available across the country. As of now, Chetak is available in 27 cities. There are plans to increase this number to 100 cities in the near future. Bajaj is also working to launch multiple new electric two-wheelers over the next two years. The company has already formed a new entity named Chetak Technology to focus exclusively on development of EVs. With more products on offer, Bajaj will be able to target a larger segment of users. KTM, Husqvarna Price Hike July 2022 – Duke, RC 125, 200, 250, 390 ADV

KTM has increased prices for all its bikes in the range of Rs 1,427 to Rs 2,148; no updatesImage – MotobikeAs has been the case in most other previous price hikes, July price hike announced by KTM and Husqvarna is likely due to rising input costs. Inflation is now a global phenomenon, which has led to increase in prices of auto parts, components and raw materials. KTM and Husqvarna had increased prices earlier this year in May also.Apart from KTM and Husqvarna, most other OEMs have also announced price hikes multiple times in CY22. Upward revision of two-wheeler prices has been happening with greater frequency since 2020-21. This trend is likely to continue throughout 2022-23 and may be even longer depending on the emerging global geo-political and economic situation.KTM new prices July 2022KTM Duke range prices have been increased by up to Rs 2,148. Lowest price hike is Rs 1,427 for KTM 200 Duke. The bike is now available at a starting price of Rs 1,91,693. KTM 125 Duke and 250 Duke have received price hikes of Rs 2,099 each. New prices are Rs  1,78,041 and Rs  2,37,222, respectively. KTM 390 Duke has the highest price hike in the group at Rs 2,148. New price of 390 Duke is Rs 2,96,230.A similar price structure can be seen for the KTM RC range, where RC 200 has received the lowest price hike of Rs 1,427. New price of RC 200 is Rs 2,14,688. Entry-level RC 125 is being offered at Rs 1,88,640, an increase of Rs 1,779 in comparison to old price. RC 390 gets a price hike of Rs 2,148. New price of KTM RC 390 is Rs 3,16,070.KTM and Husqvarna prices July 2022KTM ADV range starts with 250 Adventure, which is now available at Rs 2,44,205. That’s an increase of Rs 2,099. KTM 390 Adventure price has been increased by Rs 2,148. It is now available at a starting price of Rs 3,37,043. While prices have been hiked, there are no updates for any of the bikes.Overall price hike for KTM bikes seems manageable from the users’ perspective. It is unlikely to have any major impact on sales. Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen prices have also increased for July 2022. The 250cc motorcycles are now priced at Rs 2,19,878 and Rs 2,19,251 which is an increase of Rs 2,099.KTM upcoming bikesEarlier this year in May, KTM had launched updated versions of RC 390 and 390 Adventure. These were launched at a starting price of Rs 3.14 lakh and Rs 3.35 lakh, respectively. Future plans include next-gen 390 Duke, which is expected to make its global debut later this year. It is expected to be launched in India in the first half of 2023.Another possibility is the 390 Adventure R variant that has been spotted on road tests. R variant is already available for higher capacity KTM bikes like 890 Adventure and 1290 Super Adventure. Primary differentiation for R variants comes in the form of additional equipment and features that make these bikes a superior off-roader. As 390 Adventure is popular here, it is possible that KTM may consider the bike’s R variant for India. More

2023 KTM 390 Duke New Gen Spied In India For First Time

While next-gen KTM 390 Duke will debut later this year in international markets, launch in India is likely in first half of 20232023 KTM Duke 390After launching updated versions of 390 Adventure and RC 390 in May, KTM has started working towards introducing new-gen 390 Duke in India. KTM 390cc bikes are currently the top selling KTM bikes in the country. They are also the most exported KTM bikes from India. All KTM and Husqvarna bikes are manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan facility near Pune. While new-gen 390 Duke was earlier spotted on road tests in Europe, this is the first time it’s been seen in India. The test mule was fully camouflaged and appeared close to production-ready form. It is evident that the bike packs in a range of updates for a sportier look and feel.KTM 390 Duke Next-Gen stylingFront fascia of new-gen 390 Duke has been updated with a more aggressive headlamp. Functionality of the headlamp will be retained, which is claimed to offer improved visibility in low light and dark conditions. The bike can be seen with new tank shrouds that are much sharper as compared to that of current model. Towards the tail section, the bike appears to have added some new panels. Overall, the bike’s design aesthetics seems to be closely following its larger sibling, the 1290 Super Duke R.Beyond the skin, the bike can be seen using an updated cast aluminium subframe. This again appears similar to that of larger capacity Dukes. Swingarm has also been updated with a new, asymmetrical unit. The current model has the standard, flat bar swingarm design. Some features like the lightweight alloy wheels have been borrowed from KTM’s updated RC range. In other updates, placement of the front disc has been changed to right side. The bike has been equipped with an underbelly exhaust, which enhances its sporty profile. The current model utilizes an upswept exhaust that comes in dual-tone black-metallic finish. With these changes, KTM appears to be targeting multiple improvements. It includes reducing the bike’s weight and enhancing control and handling. With improved power to weight ratio, performance could also get a boost.New TFT consoleNew-gen KTM 390 Duke will have an updated TFT display with revised layout. It can now display more information, as compared to the one used with current model. It is possible that new features like turn-by-turn navigation could be added. Some new connectivity features could also be on the cards. Another update could be emergency brake light system, which activates during hard braking. In this situation, all indicators are flashed at the same time to warn other road users. While the engine casing seems new, it is not certain if there will be any direct performance improvements. The current model is powered by a 373.2cc liquid cooled motor that generates max power of 43.5 hp and peak torque of 37 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The engine is integrated with a quickshifter and slipper clutch. With the updates, new-gen KTM 390 Duke price could exceed the Rs 3 lakh mark. The current model is available at a starting price of somewhere around Rs 2.90 lakh. More

New KTM 390 ADV Variant Spied – Upcoming RE Himalayan 450 Rival?

It is also possible that one of the models could be a new bike from KTM-owned Spanish motorcycle company GasGas2023 KTM 390 Adventure – New Variant Spied? In the Adv segment, KTM already offers the R variants with its higher capacity 1290 Super Adventure and 890 Adventure. These are equipped with additional features that make them suitable for hardcore off-roading. As 390 Adventure is popular here, there’s a possibility it could receive the R/Rally variant.A number of prominent changes can be seen on the test mules. Most of these are aimed at improving the bike’s off-roading capabilities. For example, there’s the raised front mudguard and knobby tyres at front and rear. The bikes have wire-spoke wheels, as compared to alloy wheels used with standard 390 Adventure. Images are credited to BMH-Images, Bernhard M. Hoehne.KTM 390 Adventure R/Rally featuresAnother key change is a compact underbelly exhaust, as compared to the upswept exhaust used on the standard model. One of the test mules utilizes a half fairing and is equipped with a tall, flat visor. It has also been equipped with a large bash plate. The test mules can be seen with a vertically stacked dual-LED headlamp setup that seems quite radical from a design perspective. It is likely to offer more focused illumination, thereby improving safety in dark conditions. Some features are common to both bikes such as the new boomerang-shaped swingarm. In comparison, standard 390 Adventure utilizes a flat swingarm. TFT instrument console looks largely the same as used with the standard model. However, the placement of the console seems higher on the test mules. Riding ergonomics appear to be the same as that of the existing 390 Adventure.2023 KTM 390 Adventure – New Variant Spied? On both test mules, the tail section is currently missing much of its outer skin. Even the fairing appears to be a temporary unit that will be revised along the development process. These factors indicate that 390 Adventure R/Rally variant could still be several months from launch.KTM 390 Adventure R/Rally engineEngine is likely to be the same as current 390 Adventure. The bike is powered by a 373 cc, liquid cooled motor that generates 44 hp of max power at 9,000 rpm and 37 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It is possible that the engine on R/Rally variant may be tweaked to suit the bike’s off-roading character.Suspension system is also expected to be updated, allowing for longer travel. Some adjustments could be made to the braking apparatus as well. In its present form, 390 Adventure has WP APEX USD front forks and WP APEX rear monoshock suspension. Braking duties are performed by 320 mm disc at front and 230 mm disc at rear. The bike has dual-channel Bosch ABS with cornering function and offroad mode.2023 KTM 390 Adventure – New Variant Spied? As adventure biking is gaining popularity here, it is possible that KTM could introduce 390 Adventure R/Rally variant in India. One of the key rivals will be upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. There could be competition from Honda as well in the form of a new middleweight adventure bike. Evidence to that comes from recently trademarked ‘NX’ and ‘NX500’ names in Europe. More

KTM 490 Range To Have 5 Motorcycles – Duke, RC, ADV, Enduro, SMC R

The twin-cylinder motor is likely to be a derivative of CF Moto’s 450 cc unitImage for reference.KTM has been busy benefiting from impressive economies of scale by sharing platforms across several body styles as well as across the brands it owns. The 390 for example has Duke, RC and Adventure derivatives in addition to powering Husqvarna’s street fighter range. The 125 and 690 architectures too have multi-product, multi-brand derivatives. It has emerged that the Austrian two wheeler giant is gearing up to enter a new sub-segment in the highly lucrative medium displacement segment. The brand is reportedly eyeing to plug the gap between its 390 and 690 family of products with a new series of 490 models.KTM 490 family on the anvilAccording to MotorcycleNews, KTM is working on an array of models based on a twin-cylinder 450 cc motor first of which is expected to arrive as early as this year. KTM’s new 450 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor is said to be a derivative of a similar unit used by the company’s Chinese arm CF Moto. The 490 family is strongly expected to consist of the usual suspects – Duke, RC and Adventure. We expect the new family of models to have sufficient differentiation in terms of market positioning and performance to let it coexist with the current single-cylinder 390 range.KTM 490 range of motorcycles launch in 2022If the CF Moto’s 450SR is anything to go by, the future KTM 490 family might employ a parallel twin unit with a 270 degree crankshaft. The power output is likely to exceed 50 hp mark by a fair margin but expect detuned A2 versions (output less then 48 hp) to cater to the popular European segment. In a typical KTM fashion, the 490 series will be positioned as the most powerful offerings in the twin-cylinder medium displacement segment which is currently led by Kawasaki Ninja 400.Where will the KTM 490 be made?KTM now has a lot of experience in making quality products in a cost effective manner in Asia, thanks to its partner Bajaj Auto. We expect a similar production arrangement for the 490 family with CF Moto in China. Such a collaboration will be a win-win situation for both the brands. Europe being a production base is not entirely ruled out either.Given the KTM Group’s inclination to diversify its motor, it is not outrageous to expect the upcoming twin-cylinder motor to find its way onboard an array of new enduros and off-roaders as well. The Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen 501 could also be on the cards. Will it launch in India? The idea of a KTM 390 Duke or Adventure does sound appealing for our market. However, pricing may not be as competitive as the locally made 390 family. Anyway, it is too early to talk about it as of now. More
