      Jawa 42 In New Colours Of Black, White, Red Launch Soon – Production Starts

      Classic Legends, a fairly new entrant into the Indian motorcycle segment, achieved a major milestone recently. Jawa sales crossed the 50,000 unit mark and what makes this even noteworthy is that this target was reached in precisely 1 year of production.
      The company states that this half century mark would have been achieved much earlier had the lockdown not been announced in March this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. With production and demand back on track, Jawa is getting ready to launch new colour options of the Jawa 42. Latest images suggest that the production has already started at company plant.

      The existing lineup of Jawa 42 motorcycles will continue as is. In addition to those, the company will launch new range with alloy wheels and blacked out treatment. Gone will be the chrome from this range of Jawa 42. New accessories will also be on offer.
      This is probably something similar to what Royal Enfield had done to the Thunderbird range when they had launched the Thunderbird X. It remains to be seen if this new Jawa range will be given a new name, or will be called same.

      As can be seen in the images, the updated Jawa 42 will be offered in new colour options of White, Matte Black and Matte Red. It will also be offered in currently available colour options. Except for the painted body panels and fuel tank, everything else is in black.
      Prices and Engine Specs
      After the recent price hike, the Jawa and Jawa 42 are currently priced at Rs.1.76 lakhs and Rs.1.63 lakhs respectively for the single ABS variant. Dual ABS costs Rs 1.85 lakh and Rs 1.72 lakh while the Perak carries a price tag of Rs.1.97 lakhs. These are ex-sh prices. Expect the new Jawa 42 range with alloys and black treatment to be expensive by about Rs 5-10k.
      The Jawa and Jawa 42 are powered by the same BS6 compliant 293cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder engine making 26.51hp power and 27.05 Nm torque. The Perak on the other hand gets a more powerful 344cc engine that generates 30 hp power and 32.74 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox.

      Sales Boost
      Classic Legends CEO Ashish Singh Joshi is confident of achieving the next 50,000 unit mark in a far less time span. The three bikes are produced at the Mahindra manufacturing unit in Pithampur near Indore in Madhya Pradesh with an annual capacity of 5 lakh units per annum.       2021 Jawa, Jawa 42, Perak Prices Increased – New vs Old Price List

      Classic Legends has increased prices on all its Jawa models in India namely Jawa Classic, Forty-Two and Perak. The latest price hike is applicable with immediate effect and has been implemented across all models of the said bikes. This is the second price hike since adoption of the stringent BS6 emission norms a few months back.
      Price Hike of Jawa
      Starting with Jawa, all variants of the retro-style classic motorcycle have witnessed an increment in their ex-showroom prices by Rs 2,987. It is offered in two variants- single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS. The base trim with silver and grey colour variants were offered at a price of Rs Rs 1,73,164. After the latest hike in prices, it costs Rs 1,76,151.
      The Maroon coloured variant of the single-channel ABS trim was previously priced Rs 1,74,228 and after the latest price revision, it is now available at Rs 1,77,215. Coming to the dual-channel variants, the black and grey colour options are now available at a price of Rs 1,85,093 as opposed to Rs 1,82,106 prior to the hike. Similarly, price of the Maroon option has been increased from Rs 1,83,170 to Rs1,86,157.
      Price hike of Forty-Two, Perak
      Talking about the brand entry-level model Forty-Two, price hike across all variants is constant at Rs 2987. For single-channel ABS variants, prices for Haley’s Teal and Starlight Blue colour options have increased from Rs 1,60,300 to Rs Rs 1,63,287.

      Prior to the latest price hike, the Lumos Lime shade was offered at a price of Rs 1,64,164 instead of Rs 1,67,151. On the other hand, colour options such as Nebula Blue, Comet Red and Galactic Green were previously priced at Rs 1,65,228 and will now be offered at a price of Rs 1,68,215.

      The company’s flagship product Perak is available in a solitary trim and will now be offered at a price of Rs 1,97,487. The bobber which recently celebrated its first anniversary in the market was previously priced at Rs 1,94,500. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.

      Updated Forty-Two Spied
      Spy shots of the updated Jawa Forty-Two surfaced on the internet recently which showed a handful of updates on the retro-modern motorcycle. It will be launched soon, and could command an even higher price.
      The updated Forty-Two was seen with blacked-out mechanical components such as its engine, front and rear suspension units, exhaust pipe and headlamp bezel and turn indicator housings.       Classic Legends have been actively testing its retro-styled classic motorcycle Forty-Two ahead of its launch. The new set of images show the entry-level Jawa with a new pair of blacked-out alloy wheels instead of conventional wire-spoke wheels. Another set of images with a similar setup has surfaced on the internet.
      The latest spy shots have been clicked by automotive enthusiast Sai somewhere near Pune. These new wheels might be wrapped around by tubeless tyres as they are easier to repair in case of a puncture. The changes are not only limited to the wheels only.

      Cosmetic Updates
      As evident from the new set of spy images, there are a few other cosmetic changes. This includes blacked-out mechanical components such as its exhaust pipe, front and rear suspension setup, black headlamp bezel and turn indicator housings.
      Even the engine and gearbox setup has also been painted black instead of a traditional chrome setup. The whole all-black theme adds a nice modern flavour to the retro motorcycle. Other notable changes included a single-piece grab rail for the pillion and a new stitching pattern for the seat.

      Jawa would also want to improve the quality of foam beneath the seat as consumers have lots of complaints regarding Forty Two’s seating comfort, especially for the pillion. Although, going by the images, shape of the seat has been kept intact. A short flyscreen has also been added but that seems to be part of an accessory package.

      While details regarding this update are still very thin, we expect a similar tyre setup to be included to other Jawa models including Jawa Classic and Perak. It might also be the case that this update might be included as a whole new variant in Forty Two’s lineup. One can expect this iteration of the retro motorcycle to make hit showrooms in the next few weeks.
      Powertrain Specs
      Visually there seem to be no changes made on the mechanical front. It is still likely to be powered by a BS6-compliant 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that features in the current iteration of Forty-Two.

      This unit is good enough to return an output of 26.5 bhp and 27.05 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox and is offered in two variants- single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS. The test mule spotted recently is most probably the latter as it features disc brakes on both front and rear.
      Currently, Jawa Forty-Two has been priced between Rs 1.65 lakh and Rs 1.74 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). With the launch of Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Honda H’Ness CB350, rivalry in the modern classic segment of motorcycles has intensified and a timely update by rival brands is a need of the hour.       Jawa Motorcycles Alloy Wheels Option Launch Soon – Spied On Test

      Classic Legends has been testing its retro-styled classic motorcycle Jawa Forty Two with a pair of new alloy wheels. Currently, the bike is offered with wire-spoked wheels which are enveloped by tube tyres. The new setup might make use of tubeless tyres that are easier to repair in case of a puncture.

      It might also offer a better grip and riding experience on the road. There are no apparent changes made to the motorcycle except for the addition of a single-piece grab rail and a short flyscreen although it is yet to be seen whether these are offered as standard or as optional add-on accessories.
      Also, the manufacturer seems to have done away with some chrome elements that have been replaced by blacked-out components such as its front and rear suspension setup, exhaust pipe and black headlamp bezel as well as indicator housings.
      Stitching on the seat also seems to be different. One might expect Jawa to also improve its seat quality since many consumers have complained about Forty Two’s seat size and quality especially for the pillion.

      Powertrain Specs
      If one takes a closer peek, they can spot a little reservoir where its rear suspension is mounted onto the bike’s frame. Apart from these, there are no other noticeable changes made on Forty Two. In all probability, it is also likely to retain the same powertrain. In its BS6 avatar, it is powered by a 293cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that churns out 27 bhp and 27.05 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. It retailed in two variants- single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS.
      The test mule seen on the latest set of spy shots is most probably the dual-channel ABS derivative. It is currently offered at a price bracket of Rs 1.65 lakh to Rs 1.74 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom).
      While details on the updated classic roadster are still very thin, we can expect this tyre setup to also find its way to other Jawa offerings such as Jawa Classic and Perak. Expect this new update Forty Two to make its debut in a few weeks time.
      Jawa Forty Two Rivals
      Competition in the retro motorcycle has been intensified ever since the launch of Honda H’Ness CB350 and Royal Enfield Meteor 350 late last year. While the former is a naked commuter roadster, the latter is sort of a cruiser.
      Both motorcycles are powered by 350cc single-cylinder motors and are paired to a five-speed gearbox. While CB350 kicks out 21 bhp and 30 Nm of peak torque, the engine on Meteor 350 produces 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque.

      Jawa Perak, 42 And Classic Prices To Be Increased From 1st Jan 2021

      Jawa, Forty Two and Perak will undergo a price hike in view of rising input costs and commodity prices

      As is generally noted at the start of each year, January 2021 will also see hike in prices of cars and two wheelers. Hero MotoCorp has announced a price hike by around Rs.1,500 from 1st January 2021 while Kia, Hyundai, Maruti and Mahindra have also made similar announcements. OEMs generally introduce price hike between 1-3 percent, but this year the hike is expected to be higher as the automakers decide to pass on higher input costs to the consumer.
      Mahindra-owned news website Car and Bike has announced in an exclusive report that Mahindra’s subsidiary, Classic Legends Private Limited will be hiking prices for the Jawa motorcycles from January 2021; though the quantum of price hike is yet to be announced.
      The price hike will span the Jawa, Jawa Forty Two and the Perak as the company also cites rising input costs and commodity prices as reasons for this price hike, a portion of which will now be passed on to the consumer.
      Quantum of Price Hike
      The quantum of price hike across the Jawa range has not yet been revealed. As on date Classic Legends sells the Jawa at Rs.1.73-1.83 lakhs, the Jawa Forty Two at from Rs.1.60-1.74 lakhs and the top of the line Jawa Perak at Rs.1.94 lakhs. Apart from the price hike, these bikes will not see any modifications either in design or in engine specifications.

The third motorcycle model under the Jawa brand name, Perak which is the most affordable, made-in-India factory custom bobber, gets a 334cc, single cylinder, 4 stroke engine making 30.64 hp power and 32.74 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox.
      Rising Cost of Ownership
      Over the past year, it has also been noted that there is a distinct increase in cost of ownership of automobiles. Higher insurance premiums, BS6 upgrades and a higher trajectory in fuel prices have all put an increased burden on the consumer.
      Jawa has noted sales to the extent of 50,000 units during the April 2019 to November 2020 period. This also includes the lockdown period till around July 2020. The company announced this milestone achievement in 24 months of full operation which excluded the suspension of operations during the months of March to July 2020 when the company had zero inventory.
      This growing demand has caused the company to increase both production capacities and dealership count across the country with a target to register sales of the next 50,000 in less than a year. In the recent months, it is the Perak which has been the best selling Jawa motorcycle.

      Jawa Motorcycle Sales Record 50k Milestone – 2 Years Since Launch

      Rival Royal Enfield sold almost 67k motorcycles in single month of Oct 2020

      Classic Legends has announced 50k unit sales of Jawa Motorcycles since launch in 2018. Though it is almost 2 years after launch that this feat has been achieved, Jawa claims the sales feat was achieved in an effective 12 months of full operations. At the time of launch in 2018, Jawa had aimed to sell about 90k motorcycles annually or about 7,500 units monthly.
      Even though Jawa launched motorcycles in Nov 2018, it was only in April 2019 that the deliveries started. Then of course one had to deal with zero activity during specified periods of nationwide lockdown period (since March 2020), with near zero inventories owing to waiting period.
      As the company embarks on its journey for the next 50k milestone, Jawa motorcycles continues to expand production capacity and dealership count. Ashish Singh Joshi, CEO – Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd. said, “As the newest entrant in the Indian motorcycle market, we are proud of what we have achieved in such a short duration.” Jawa aims to register the next 50k unit sales in less than 1 year.
      Best Selling Jawa
      Jawa’s return to full fledged business was as recent as 2018. To get going, the company readied a production facility and sells 3 models -Jawa, Jawa forty two and Perak that not only make up the product lineup but also were tasked with the responsibility of brand resurrection. To support this, a sales network is under ongoing development, and ops have been ramped to meet customer demands.

      The 50,000 motorcycles milestone is of significance to the brand as it portends a future roadmap that the company is geared up to achieve. Jawa Motorcycles views this as ‘healthy demand’ having had to contend with the 50k taking a longer time to reach owing to Covid-19 related production challenges.
      The company is upbeat the next 50k units milestone will be attained in lesser time. In the meantime, Classic Legends has started exports with a batch of Jawa motorcycles being shipped to Europe, and Nepal. Only last month, the company celebrated delivery of 2000 Perak units, making it the best-selling Jawa.

      Perak roots goes back to the 1940s, during the time of the Nazi German’s rule in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. In those difficult times, there was a man dressed in black who moved in the shadows. It was rumoured that this strange figure was portrayed as a Czech hero.
      He gave the people a sense of comfort, leapt out of the darkness and was indestructible, not afraid of the German troupes or the ‘Bullet’. Though the Germans tried to capture this figure, which came to be called ‘Perak’, their efforts proved unsuccessful.

      Perak Becomes Best Selling Jawa – Records 2k Deliveries In Oct 2020

      Classic Legends, the Mahindra owned company which sells the the Jawa, Forty-Two and Perak motorcycles, has announced a new delivery milestone today. For the first time, the company has recorded deliveries of 2,000 units of Perak in oct 2020. In fact, this is the first time Jawa has delivered 2k units of any of their 3 motorcycles on offer, in a month.
      Majority of these 2k Perak units were sold during the second half of October, which included the festivals of Dusshera and Navartri. The company now expects better sales of the Jawa Perak with Diwali around the corner.
      Deliveries of the Jawa Perak commenced in July this year. It is the most expensive model in the company lineup, priced at Rs.1.94 lakhs, ex-sh. Classic Legends has only disclosed delivery numbers of the Perak and not of the Jawa and Forty Two. Hence its sales performance can neither be compared to earlier months and nor can it be assessed as against that of its competitors.
      Taking into account total sales of Jawa in the July, August, September period, it can be noted that sales are on a steady rise. Sales which had stood at 569 units in July increased to 1,353 units in August and then on to 2,121 units in September 2020. Though the company has not disclosed October sales of the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two, they state that both these models have seen steady sales and increased demand that has overshot production supplies.

Ltd. said, “The fact that we delivered around 2000 units of Perak in the span starting from Navratri last month is a testimony to the widespread acceptance of the model, which has carved its own niche and has been elevated to a cult status within just a few months of hitting the streets.
      Overcoming the challenges posed by the Covid-19 situation, we have been focusing on streamlining the production and delivering as many vehicles as we can to our customers. We began the festive season on an encouraging note and are confident that the excitement will keep on growing through the festivities. Since the lifting of the lockdown, we have added 58 dealerships to our existing network that are fully operational and have made our products more accessible to our customers pan India. The company plans to increase the pre-lockdown number of 105 dealerships to 205 by December 2020 to make our models available to more customers, in newer geographies.”

      The company expects to see increased sales through the month of November promising increased production at the Pithampur plant and quicker deliveries while the company is also in the process of enhancing its dealership network across India. Jawa currently has 163 dealerships across India which it intends to increase to 205 dealerships by the end of this year.
      The month of October also saw Jawa motorcycles launched in Nepal. The Jawa showroom is located at Uttardhoka and Teku locations of Kathmandu with Agni Motoinc Pvt Ltd, as the company’s official distributor partner in Nepal. Sales commence with the Jawa and Jawa 42 with the Jawa Perak to also be introduced soon. The bikes will be imported into the country via the Completely Built Units (CBU) route.
