Ather Electric Scooter Fire Incident At Showroom – Official Update

Ather electric scooter fire incident is attributed to vehicle that was brought in for servicing following an accident – fact finding points to crack on battery pack casingAther Electric Scooter Fire IncidentRecent electric scooter fires are a bane. But, hopefully one that strengthens the path for e2Ws. The current focus on electric scooter fires seem odd especially since ICE vehicle fires to date have never been scrutinized this closely. This of course is owing to multiple reasons. One of them being the fact that social media as a platform didn’t perform quite as well when it comes to amplifying matters. And one couldn’t quite so easily interact with authorities and/or manufacturers. The world today is open to more transparent and prompt communication. At the same time, online grievances and opinions are manifold. So, are trolls. So, while the concern is legit, and warrants meaningful discussion, not all online chatter is meaningful. Company statements are tricky to dissect accurately, and most times, they are all that is available. Following the recent spate of electric scooter fires, multiple manufacturers have gone on record to discuss specified fire incidents in brief.Ather Electric Scooter FireThis past week, there’s been a report of a Hero Photon electric scooter. The manufacturer was quick to point out that that the fire is the outcome of a short circuit at the socket. The scooter was being charged overnight. The other fire in focus was an incident in Chennai at Ather’s dealership in Chennai. A detailed statement a day later elaborates on what unfolded.Ather Electric Scooter Fire – Official UpdateThe company says, the fire erupted in a vehicle that had been brought to the service centre following an accident. Once dust was washed off the vehicle, the team realized there was a crack in the battery pack top casing when removing body panels. This crack is likely an outcome of the accident. Because of the wash, water entered the battery pack. The company also noticed a few screws around the battery had been replaced. Their varying lengths could have heightened stress on the battery top panel.A report earlier in the week, which puts blame on cheap materials that don’t meet quality criteria. The probe result was furnished by CFEES of the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Electric scooter fire incidents led to notices being sent to multiple manufacturers. Incident explanations are sought from Boom Motors, Pure EV, Ola Electric, Okinawa Autotech, and Jitendra EV. With the scooter fire reports from this week, due diligence and audits for the same are expected.Audits and due diligenceWhile the e2W industry is seeing growth across segments, in terms of sales volume, it still is a small segment. One that sees improved interest. With EVs touted to be the next big arena of mobility, it’s essential that the groundwork is strong. So, while outcomes of national probes of ICE vehicles have hardly been a matter of public discussion, for EVs the rules have changed.Honest and open discussions will help keep the faith in the growing EV industry. Detailed scrutiny will help correct faultlines. This is more than essential if the country is to reach its EV transition goals by 2030. More

Ather Electric Scooter Gets TPMS As Accessory – For Rs 5k

Ather’s TPMS sensors are housed inside the wheel and will replace traditional tubeless valve stemsAther Electric ScooterAther electric scooter was first launched in 2018. It is probably the first Indian startup EV manufacturer that strikes a perfect balance between premium-ness, safety and performance. Unlike some rivals, Ather electric scooters never had major bugs or had any reported fire incident.Getting the basics right in the first shot is hard and that’s where Ather has delivered. Company’s 450 Plus and 450X scooters have been the king of premium electric scooters until recently. With the launch of S1 Pro with its bigger battery, bigger range and minimalist design, Ola has taken the crown as the king of premium electric scooters. Ather wants to one-up Ola’s features list by introducing value-added accessories for their scooters in the form of a TPMS system. Ola currently lacks a TPMS system in both S1 and S1 Pro.Ather Electric Scooter TPMS systemTPMS system stands for Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. It is a novelty feature found on SUVs, cars and big bikes. But Ather says that TPMS is more necessary for EVs than IC engine-powered vehicles. When IC engine vehicles go to fill fuel, the filling station will always have a tyre inflator that reminds the owner of their tyre pressure. As electric scooters are mostly charged at home, EV tyre pressure is mostly neglected.Ather Electric Scooter TPMSAther has developed a TPMS system for their scooters which are housed inside the wheel replacing the valve stem. This is better than TPMS systems with sensors outside the wheel as it negates miscreants from tampering with the system. But the internal TPMS sensor’s battery can only be replaced by taking off the tyre.Ather Electric Scooter TPMSAther’s TPMS system connects to the scooter’s dashboard and Ather mobile app and provides tyre pressure data. It also has colour coded indications within the dashboard and app. Red denotes that pressure is too low, orange indicates that pressure is low and white indicates that pressure is okay. Ather recommends 30 psi at the rear and 32 psi at the front.Need for TPMSEven though TPMS is a novelty, it can be a convenient feature. Unlike car tyres that have a flat section, motorcycle tyres have a curved section that facilitates tilting the motorcycle to take turns. If tyre has too much pressure, the middle section of the tyre is more bulged out and is more subjected to wear. High tyre pressure also contributes to less traction and grip and also, a bumpy ride.Ather Electric Scooter TPMSIf tyre pressure is too low, it makes a wider contact patch with the road wearing out the tyre quicker. Low tyre pressure contributes to a saggy ride and increases the chance of damaging the wheel when riding on bad and unpredictable Indian roads. The TPMS system by Ather is its first official accessory. For the price of Rs. 4999, it is a very valuable addition for Ather’s customers. It also connects seamlessly with the scooter’s dashboard and also Ather app that the customer is already using, rather than an additional app just for this accessory. More

Ather Energy reports manifold growth in April 2022, sells 3,779 units; reports MoM and YoY growthAther Electric ScooterThe electric two-wheeler industry in India has over time seen many new entrants. The marketplace is open to tech-based companies who are focused on changing the face of mobility in the years to come. This is in tandem with overall industry transition targets.India has largely been driven forward on two-wheelers. So, it’s not surprising that the e2W transition is expected to be the highest by the turn of the decade. With serious transition goals by 2030, the switch to e2Ws is expected to be in the region of 80 percent. With two-wheelers completely fuelled by petrol, this transition would change the course of crude oil import.Ather Electric Scooter Sales April 2022Electric two-wheeler manufacturers are seeing positive sales growth in recent months. April 2022 sales support the trend. Ather Energy reported sales at 3,779 units. YoY sales are up from 1,064 units. Apart from this, the company is focused on strengthening its charging network. With multiple aspects of e2W industry development being worked upon simultaneously, growth trends have been heartening. But with industry goals being larger than life, growth needs to be faster. And while a range of charts point to operating costs being cheaper, namely the need not to spend on petrol, electric bikes aren’t cheap. In fact, Ather offers its scooters at a starting price of Rs 1.18L.e-scooter sales growthTwo wheeler sales far exceed four wheelers here. And electric alternatives are now available with a range that automatically widens its scope. Low-speed scooters can almost be ridden by anyone, and don’t require registration and licence. With EV tech improving continuously, range anxiety issues are already being answered. Plans to improve the EV charging network further eases EV transition.New age manufacturers are essentially moulding the e2W industry. Currently, the number of new manufacturers far exceeds the number of traditional manufacturers who are offering electric bikes. While the Indian two wheeler industry continues to be dominated by motorcycles, in the electric space, its electric scooters have taken the lead. In fact, the number of electric motorcycles on offer or intended for launch are far lower than e-scooters available. More

Ather Electric Scooter To Get New Variants – More Range

Currently, Ather offers 450 Plus for Rs 1.50 lakh and 450X for Rs 1.60 lakh (both prices ex-showroom)Existing Ather Electric ScooterFor a new startup to build the first premium electric scooter in India speaks volumes about the people involved in the firm. In a short span of time, Ather Energy has been able to attract a sizeable number of consumers toward electric mobility. The Bengaluru-based EV manufacturing startup currently retails two e-scooters- 450 Plus and 450X.In an interaction, Ather CEO, Tarun Mehta gave some insights into the company’s future. Ather Energy is looking to add two new battery-powered scooters to its lineup. Both these scooters will be built on the existing 450 e-scooter platform.Upcoming Ather 450 E-scooters450X is currently the higher sales volume generator, thanks to a piece of richer equipment and extra range on offer per full charge. A new version of the electric scooter is currently under development which will offer a higher range than 450X.The aforementioned goal may be achieved with a larger battery pack. This may lead to the scooter gaining a wider stance, as well as a larger bodywork to account for a larger power source. Top speed and performance are unlikely to witness any massive changes. Price of this scooter will be evidently more than 450X.Ather Electric ScooterComing to the second addition to the Ather lineup, this version of the electric scooter will receive cosmetic enhancements in form of new colour options, however, current design will be retained. In all probability, this scooter will be a sportier-looking derivative of 450X.Details about these two e-scooters are still thin. These new variants of Ather 450 are expected to make their debuts towards the end of this year or early next year. With rising competition in the electric two-wheeler space, Ather clearly wants to strengthen its portfolio of electric scooters.Ather 450X, 450 Plus updatesAther recently launched a new update for its electric scooters- 450X and 450 Plus. As per this new update, owners of both these e-scooters will benefit from an additional ride mode called SmartEco mode. It accelerates from 0-40kmph in 3.3 seconds and promises a real world range of up to 85km on a single charge. On the other hand, 450 Plus is powered by an electric motor that kicks out a peak output of 5.4kW (7.2 bhp) and 22 Nm of torque. True range is claimed to be 70km on a full charge.Source More

Ather Electric Scooter Gets New Ride Mode Via Latest Update

New SmartEco ride mode for Ather will make it easier for users to achieve the scooter’s true range with limited impact on performanceAther Electric ScooterOne of the many benefits of electric scooters is that performance and overall experience can be improved via OTA updates. New features can also be introduced at regular intervals. There is no need to visit the service centre and everything gets done in a few minutes.Ather SmartEco OTA updateAther’s latest update includes a new SmartEco ride mode that is designed to dynamically adjust range and performance. To get SmartEco ride mode, Ather 450X and 450 Plus users need to download the latest version of Atherstack software. In Ather app, users need to activate the Ather Labs option to become eligible for this update.Ather Labs provides early access to new features and seeks feedback from users. Earlier also, a number of new features were made available through Ather Labs such as Trip Planner and Savings Tracker. Latest SmartEco ride mode will be available to users who have Ather Connect Pro subscription plan.If all such conditions are satisfied, users need to choose ‘Update Now’ option via settings on the scooter’s touchscreen display panel. The battery has to be at least 40% to get the update. The update takes around 5 minutes, post which users can select SmartEco mode via settings.Ather Electric ScooterWhen selected, the existing Eco mode is replaced by SmartEco on the screen. Users can return to standard Eco mode anytime they want. Other ride modes of Ride, Sport and Warp remain unchanged.Ather SmartEco ride mode benefitsSmartEco ride mode essentially aims to achieve a midway between Eco and higher speed ride modes. In a conventional system, the Eco mode does maximize range. However, it significantly limits the options available to the user. For example, if the user needs to overtake, they will have to switch to a different mode.SmartEco works differently, as it can sense the exact requirements at a given point of time. It can factor variables like user riding style, total load on scooter, terrain, etc. Based on these factors, SmartEco makes dynamic adjustments to acceleration. Simultaneously, it also keeps an eye on power consumption to ensure the scooter can achieve its true range. In SmartEco mode, a power bar is displayed on the dashboard. When the power bar is blue, it indicates that there is ample power available. Users can accelerate as per their needs. When power bar turns red, it means less power is available. At these times, users should not accelerate or speed up. If they need to do so, they can switch to Ride mode.It is to note that this update is being rolled out gradually. It may not be available to all users simultaneously. Users also need to ensure that their Ather App has been updated to the latest version. More

Ola S1 Vs Bajaj Chetak Vs Ather Electric Scooter – Hill Climb Test

While Ola S1 Pro got the best 0-40 kmph kick down acceleration, it failed to reach top of the hill even in Sport modeElectric Scooter Hill Climb TestThere has been a raging ongoing debate about performance of electric scooters which are key to future mobility solutions. Many electric scooters have faced scrutiny regarding their battery management system which often fail to respond in tough conditions. While it is very true that EVs are very quick off the block, many e-scooters fail to keep up the performance in challenging terrains. The latest video from Asardar Reviews on YouTube is a clear example of battery-powered scooters not being able to perform up to the mark in certain cases.Electric Scooter Hill Climb TestIn this particular video, the vlogger has cited three well-known examples in the form of Ather 450, Bajaj Chetak and Ola S1 Pro. Here, all three electric scooters are tested separately on hilly terrain and their performance is scrutinised. The vlogger reveals that this test has been conducted specifically for people living around hilly areas who are planning on buying an electric scooter. All electric scooters seen here have been tested with a pillion sitting behind the rider, at least initially, giving a real-world simulation. The test starts with Bajaj Chetak since it’s the oldest of all three models seen in this video. The vlogger slots Chetak in Eco mode initially. It started off well with some promising performance and managed to make some sharp turns relatively easily.[embedded content][embedded content]After a couple of tricky hairpins, Chetak automatically switched to Sport mode when it realised that the scooter might need more power while climbing up. Here the scooter has clocked a top speed of around 45 kmph on its upwards journey with fair ease. Next up is Ather 450 which has been a revolutionary model in the electric mobility space.Ather Performs BestLike Chetak, Ather 450 gets multiple ride modes, however, unlike the former, ride modes on this one have to be manually toggled. In this case, as well, the vlogger started out in Eco mode and after a couple of hairpins it was realised that it loses momentum, especially with 2 people sitting on it. When slotted in Warp mode, Ather 450 is able to reach the top of the hill fairly easily while attaining an impressive top speed of 60 kmph.Ola S1 Pro DisappointsOla S1 Pro was kept last since, it is the latest offering in the two-wheeler EV space and claims the best performance, at least on paper. When started in Eco mode, S1 Pro offers the quickest 0-40 kmph acceleration. However, when it comes across its first hairpin, speed of the scooter drastically reduces until it comes to a complete halt. The scooter refuses to respond to throttle twists. It remained the same, even after the pillion disembarked. The Ola e-scooter started climbing uphill once switched to Sport mode, however, it once again came to a sudden stop when the AI in the scooter notified that the battery has heated and needs to be cooled. Vlogger had to push the scooter before reaching the top. More
