Ather Electric Scooter Records 50k Production Milestone

Ather Energy celebrates 50,000th electric scooter production landmark – Ather 450X Gen 3 in Mint Green50,000th Ather Electric ScooterIn recent months, EV sales in India have punched in higher numbers. And this has gotten enthusiasts, potential buyers, and the market in general to take note. With a multitude of electric two-wheeler brands reporting sales growth, the e2W industry has collectively benefitted. Momentum is expected to tide the industry in the months to come and help further strengthen this space.Ather Energy too has been reporting promising sales. In July 2022, sales were just shy of 2.5k units. Growth trends have now culminated in Ather Energy reporting its first 50,000 units production milestone. Accelerated growth over the recent 12-month period has helped reach the milestone in quick time. Given current trends, and overall growth reported by most electric two-wheelers, these numbers are further expected to grow.Ather Electric two-wheeler sales growthWhile e2W sales are still a small fraction of total 2W sales, these numbers will continue to improve as per demand estimates projected. With a renewed interest in electric two-wheelers, largely led by e-scooters, the current marketplace is proving to be a place of trust. Initial skepticism is no longer as pronounced, and more people seem keen. This even though e2Ws are not really cheap-er than traditional two-wheelers, especially high-speed variants. Market behaviour reveals an acceptance for e-scooters, irrespective of price bracket. An indication that a growing number of buyers are placing their confidence in charging on the go over filling on the go.Machines. Moments. Milestones.Celebrating our sweet 50,000th & the electrifying journey that lead up to it! ??? pic.twitter.com/7KrfK4yXZt— Ather Energy (@atherenergy) August 30, 2022e2W charging networkIn the meantime, the charging infra network across cities continues to be strengthened. Such centres are also exploring opportunities of swapping charged batteries for drained ones. This in turn would help save time and culminate into an efficient approach. As the network grows, it instills more confidence and continues to bring e2Ws into a position of favour. Given the potential of 2W sales in India, the e2W space will grow leaps and bounds as the country moves towards proposed deadlines of limiting dependency on fossil fuels.Ather 450X Gen 3 ride rangeSince its first launch in 2018, Ather Energy has come a long way. 2022 Ather Electric Scooter Vs Old 450X – More Range, Stability, Features

2022 Ather 450X Gen 3 is identical to the Gen 2 in terms of looks as changes are limited to functionalitiesNew Ather 450X Electric Scooter Gen 3 vs Gen 2Ather Energy has delivered consistent performance and experience. 450X is the flagship electric scooter of this Bangalore based startup. Unlike other EV startups that have had a lot of failures, breakdowns, niggles and even fire hazards, Ather has little to none.Ather knows this too as they took a dig at other EV makers in a recent TVC. While the rest of the electric scooter market is chasing range or features, Ather is also proactively updating their electric scooter. In this regard, Ather 450X has been updated to Gen 3 and it will take Ather Energy’s ethos forward. We compare the two to understand all the updates 450X Gen 3 got over the preceding model.2022 Ather Electric Scooter Vs Old 450X – PowertrainWhen parked side by side, there is not a single thing that Ather has changed to create 450X Gen 3. Except for wider and better RVMs though. But that’s it. There’s not a single mark or a sticker or anything to differentiate between the two. So where are the differences then, well, they are under the skin. For starters, the most obvious change is a new larger battery. 2022 Ather 450X Gen 3 features a larger 3.7 kWh Li-ion battery over the 2.9 kWh battery pack on Gen 2. Due to an increase in cells, it is engulfed in a larger aluminium casing which is 20 mm longer and gets new mounting points on its chassis. This has resulted in roughly 4kg weight addition too.New Ather 450X Electric Scooter Gen 3 vs Gen 2With a bigger battery, range has increased. Claimed range or the ideal range in ideal conditions used to be 116 km on Gen 2 which is now increased by 30 km to 146 km. True range was 85 km and is now 105 km, a 20 km rise with Gen 3. Now, Gen 3 offers a 105 km true range in Eco Mode, 85 km in Ride mode and Warp Mode offers 65 km.Motor is retained as the Gen 2. With a bigger battery, load from the motor is now spread out between more cells and hence less heat is generated. Also factoring in the fact that longer range means less frequent charging, we can see better battery health too. But charging time is now increased by 55 minutes due to the larger battery.Feature Upgrades & PricingFor starters, rear tyre wrapped around the 12” alloy wheel, is now 100 section over 90 section unit on Gen 2. Front 90/90 tyre size is retained. Ather didn’t just slap an off-the-shelf MRF tyre and call it a day. They co-developed new tyres with MRF for the Gen 3, vastly improving the handling. Ather claims that the new tyres offer 22% better grip. This helps deliver better acceleration, better control on the road as well as reduces braking distance considerably. Take a look at the detailed walkaround video of the new Ather Gen 3 electric scooter below, by Anubhav Chauhan.[embedded content][embedded content]Other upgrades include a faster processor for the touchscreen dashboard along with double the RAM and storage at 2 GB and 16 GB respectively. Along with making the UI noticeably faster, larger storage allows Ather to offer voice commands and offline maps via an OTA update like found on Ola S1 Pro Move OS 2.2022 Ather 450X Gen 3 prices vary from city to city. It is priced at Rs. 1.39 lakh (ex-sh) in Delhi, a Rs. 1,000 increment and Rs. 1.55 lakh (ex-sh) in Bengaluru, a Rs. 5,000 increment. 450X Gen 3 mainly competes with Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and upcoming Simple Energy One which is expected to be the next market disruptor after S1 Pro. New Ather Electric Scooter TVC – Takes A Dig At Rivals Over Fire Incidents

Ather taunts other EV manufacturers as it hasn’t encountered a manufacturing flaw yet resulting in EV firesNew Ather Electric Scooter TVCPersonally, I don’t like trash talks. But when automotive manufacturers do it to one another, I’ll be sure to grab a bowl of popcorn and hop on the couch. We have seen something of this sort from Tata Motors often.Time and again Tata Motors has taken a dig at rivals Maruti and Hyundai over safety rating. One of them was when Tata Altroz called Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 for a crash date on Valentine’s day. Crash date, get it? Because Altroz had an impressive 5-star safety rating and others didn’t. Hyundai i20 later scored a 3-star rating by GNCAP and Maruti Suzuki Baleno however, scored a 0 star safety in Latin NCAP.Ather Follows Similar FormulaAther seems to have followed the trend too as they just took a dig at other EV manufacturers for their fire hazards. In the video, we can see Shreyas Seethapathy, battery designer at Ather Energy, digging into his bowl of ice cream while sitting on an autoclave in which batteries designed by him, are baking.Ather Energy further adds that the company has delivered consistent performance and range with its batteries and not making any tall claims. It also states that Ather’s batteries are designed for monsoons, winter, wind, sandstorms and also hot summers. According to Ather, the reason why Seethapathy is sitting on baking batteries is that he is confident about his battery designs not catching fire even after being baked for 3 hours.[embedded content][embedded content]In terms of EV batteries, Li-ion batteries or Li-Po batteries are used on premium electric scooters and Lead-acid batteries are used on cheaper electric scooters. But even though a bunch of scooters gets the same Li-ion batteries, they’re not designed the same. And India of all countries has a biodiversity that only a few countries have. We have every type of extreme temperature, extreme altitudes, extreme terrains and extreme road conditions (or the lack thereof) too.Designing an EV for India is tricky and on top of it, most electric scooters we see here, are not designed for India in the first place. Take Ola for example, the banana-shaped battery pack was designed by its subsidiary company Etergo for Europe. Europe has a much lower temperature than India and has much superior road conditions too. Revolt motorcycles were designed for China. Most other small EV manufacturers source their EV components from China. This is where Ather Energy shines. The Bengaluru-based startup has designed its scooters completely from the scratch in India, for India; instead of outsourcing its parts from China.Ather Electric Scooter Fire IncidentRecently, an Ather scooter caught fire at Ather’s Chennai experience centre. The company was quick to respond that the scooter in question was subjected to an accident and the battery was compromised. When the scooter was washed at the service center, it caught fire. When EVs are subjected to accidents where batteries are compromised, they are prone to catch fire. We saw this when esteemed automotive journalist Richard Hammond crashed a Rimac Concept One when the car rolled down a Swiss mountain. Till now, Ather scooters hasn’t caught fire due to manufacturing defects like some others. Whatever Ather is doing, seems to be working for consumers in India. More

Ather Electric Scooter New Plant To Be Their Largest – 15 Lakh Production Capacity

Ather plans on its third factory to keep competition from Ola, Chetak and TVS in checkAther Electric ScooterAther has been one of the most successful EV startups in India. The company strives to make the Indian scooter market eco-friendly and be a part of the green revolution. In that regard, they only manufacture electric vehicles and plan to stay that way.But as more EV startups are entering the electric scooter market, more are the no of EVs on road with cheap and lower quality parts. This has resulted in dangerous electric scooter fire instances. Making EVs is not the hardest part. Making good EVs is. In this regard, Ather has come off as a solid performer and a consistent at that too.Ather Electric Scooter New Third PlantAther currently has two models on sale in India, 450X and 450 Plus. Both of them are manufactured at Ather’s manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. It has a production capacity of 1.2 lakh vehicles annually. Ather is also working on its second manufacturing facility in Hosur itself.Production at the 2nd plant has not started yet. When up and running, this second factory is capable of taking Ather’s total production up to 4 lakh units per annum. But with increasing competition in the Indian electric scooter space with prominent new entrants like Ola and Simple Energy and mainstream manufacturers like TVS, more production is always better.Existing Ather Electric Scooter Production Plant at HosurAdding to the competition, Bajaj’s subsidiary Chetak recently inaugurated its EV production facility at Akurdi. So, Ather has to ramp up its production and invest in new products to stay relevant in the game. Ather is reportedly in the final rounds of talks with various state governments like Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.Ather is looking for land up to 100 acres for its third manufacturing facility. This new plant will have production capacity of 15 lakh units annually, making it the largest Ather Energy plant yet. The EV startup is expected to finalize a location among the above-mentioned states by the end of next month.Ather Energy Fund Raising CampaignAther has been backed by Hero MotoCorp since early stages. Hero has been consistently supporting Ather since 2016 and currently holds a 35% stake in Ather Energy. With positive growth and consistent monthly sales, Ather has been doing really good in the EV market. It also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in May 2022.Ather Energy, with its consistent growth, has attracted a lot of funds. Last month, it raised around Rs. 990 crores from National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Ltd’s Strategic Opportunities Fund, Hero MotoCorp and some other investors. With 38 Experience centers across 32 cities, Ather is one of the prominent electric scooter manufacturers in India. With new fundraisers and two more manufacturing facilities, Ather is on its way to a new level.Source More
