Following the launch of the SXR160 in December 2020, Aprilia now brings in a new premium, lightweight commuter maxi scooter called Aprilia SXR 125. This scooter has made its debut in the Indian two wheeler market and bookings have opened at Rs.5,000 via company site or at any of the authorized Piaggio dealerships in the country.
The maxi scooter is the first scooter designed in Italy for the Indian market. Just like the SXR 160, the SXR 125 enters production at the Aprilia’s newest plant in Baramati plant in Maharashtra and will be officially available from the end of April. Earlier last month, Aprilia SXR 125 along with SXR 160 went on sale in Nepal markets.
Aprilia SXR 125 Style and Features
The new Aprilia SXR 125 will be based on the SXR 160’s platform and follows the same design philosophy. It gets aggressive body styling with a three way split twin front headlamps with full LED lighting system and DRLs, a digital instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity and large display of all rider information, USB charging port, a large windshield and generous front storage space and lit-up under-seat storage.
It is also seen with prominent side body panels, body graphics and extensive chrome accents to enhance premium appeal. The new Aprilia SXR 125 gets a single piece seat setup which is well cushioned for rider’s comfort. Take a look at the detailed walkaround video by Jet Wheels below.

The SXR 125 dimensions stand 1,985mm in length, 1,261mm in height and 806mm in width. It will be presented in colour options of Matt Black, Glossy White, Glossy Red and Matt Blue and will get a fuel tank of 7 liter capacity.
BS6 125 cc Engine Specs
Aprilia SXR 125 will get its power via a 125 cc, single cylinder, 3 valve, fuel injected engine that also powers the SR 125. This engine offers peak power of 9.4 hp at 7,600 rpm and 8.2 Nm peak torque at 6,520 rpm. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox.
Braking and suspension are via 220mm front disc and 140mm rear disc brake along with CBS (Combined Braking System) with conventional telescopic forks and monoshock. The SXR 125 will ride on 12 inch alloy wheels fitted with tubeless tyres.
The new Aprilia SXR 125 will not have any direct rivals when it comes to price. But it can be seen as a rival to the TVS NTorq and the Suzuki Burgman Street in terms of engine capacity. Official price has not been announced, but the company website states that the price is Rs 1.15 lakh. More

Ahead of their launch in international markets, Aprilia has unveiled 2021 RS 125 And Tuono 125. A number of changes have been incorporated to keep the twins relevant to market trends.
2021 Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 key updates
The 125cc twins get refreshed bodywork with new paint schemes. With the reworked body panels, the motorcycles look a lot sleeker and aggressive. The headlight assembly has been updated and it looks similar to that of SXR125 and SXR160. The semi-digital instrument cluster has also been replaced with a new fully-digital unit.
The engine is the same as earlier, but it has been tweaked to comply with Euro 5 emission norms. Even with transition to Euro 5, power output remains the same as earlier at 15.2PS at 10,750rpm. As per European norms, this is the max power output allowed for motorcycles of this class. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
In other changes, Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 get wider rear tyres. The dual-channel ABS system has also been updated. There could be updates to suspension and braking system as well, but these will be confirmed at the time of launch.

Will India get 2021 Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125?
It is unlikely that Aprilia will introduce the 125cc twins in the Indian market. High pricing could be one of the reasons, something that would make the twins out of reach of most customers.
For reference, we can compare with prices of bigger siblings – RS 660 and Tuono 660. These are scheduled for launch soon. As per a leaked document, prices of RS 660 and Tuono 660 start at Rs 13.39 lakh and Rs 13.09 lakh, respectively.
Supposing that Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 are launched in the Indian market, they will rival the likes of KTM RC125 and 125 Duke. The latter two would work out much cheaper. Moreover, there won’t be any major difference in performance between KTM 125 twins and Aprilia 125 twins. Due to these reasons, Aprilia may not choose to target the entry-level performance biking segment in India.

However, Aprilia has confirmed that it is working on a 300-400cc motorcycle that will be especially designed for the Indian market. It will take on rivals such as KTM RC 390. An exact timeline is not available, but Aprilia’s new 300-400cc motorcycle for Indian market could take more than a year.

Bookings have opened at Piaggio India’s authorized dealerships and via Aprilia’s official India website at a down payment of Rs.5,000. Launch date is scheduled for the coming weeks and production has also commenced at the company’s Baramati facility in Maharashtra.
When you are trying to book the scooter on the official website, you will notice that the price is mentioned. For Pune, price is Rs 1.15 lakh while that for Delhi is Rs 1.16 lakh. If these are the ex-sh prices of Aprilia SXR 125, then it is about Rs 10k cheaper than the SXR 150.

New Aprilia SXR 125 is seen with a similar front fascia as seen on the Aprilia RS series. It sports a distinctive headlamp cluster inspired by RS660, integrated LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and a tinted fly-screen to protect the rider from wind blasts.
The Aprilia SXR 125 will also receive sporty ‘Y’ shaped alloy wheels, large exhaust outlets, a wide seat and flat footboard. A glove box, USB charger and sufficient under storage capacity will also be its highlights. It will also sport a fuel tank of 7 liter capacity which is also similar to that seen on the SXR 160. After a lukewarm response to Aprilia SXR 160, parent company Piaggio has announced that bookings for its lesser powerful sibling have commenced. The Italian manufacturer has claimed that production for the upcoming SXR 125 has begun at the brand’s Baramati facility near Pune in Maharashtra.
Interested buyers could book an SXR 125 via Aprilia’s official India website or through any nearby Aprilia dealership at a token amount of Rs 5,000. Exact prices are expected to be announced at the time of its official launch. The more powerful SXR 160 made its debut in India in late December last year.

Expected Design
In terms of styling, it is expected to carry forward the same Maxi-style design as its larger sibling. The front apron of the scooter will don split LED headlamps that are inspired by RS660. The integrated LED DRLs make the scooter more attractive. Another notable highlight is a tinted fly-screen in order to prevent the rider from wind blasts.
The visor will be large enough although visibility shouldn’t be compromised by its positioning. Designed in Italy for India, like SXR 160, it is expected to portray small details like the tri-colour insignia of the Italian national flag on the side apron of the scooter.

RS 660 is already on sale in international markets. There’s growing interest in premium middleweight motorcycles in the country, something that can work to Aprilia’s advantage. As of now, this space is dominated by rivals such as Honda, BMW Motorrad, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
Ahead of official launch, prices of the upcoming Tuono 660 and RS 660 have been leaked. It is to be noted here that the company has not confirmed these prices. As per the leaked document, prices of Tuono 660 starts from Rs 13.09 lakh and that of the RS 660 start from Rs 13.39 lakh. Prices are ex-sh.

Aprilia RS 660, Tuono 660 design and features
RS660 comes in a sporty package, as is evident in its compact design, striking twin LED headlamps, LED DRLs with integrated turn indicators, sculpted fuel tank, dual tone wheels, rear set foot pegs, and sharp body panels. Tuono 660 is based on its larger sibling and is designed to have an aggressive look and feel. Even though the sport-naked motorcycle has several of its mechanical parts exposed, the fluid, aerodynamic design seems intact.
Both bikes have been equipped with a range of electronic rider aids to ensure optimal performance and max rider comfort. There’s Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC), which is a six-axis IMU based system. It offers a range of functionalities such as traction control, adjustable wheelie control, engine brake control and three level cornering ABS.
Aprilia Tuono 660
Users also have access to cruise control and an up/down quickshifter. The motorcycle comes with five riding modes – Individual Commute, Dynamic, Challenge and Time Attack. These are easily accessible via the TFT dashboard. Colour options on offer with RS 660 are Apex Black, Lava Red and Acid Gold. Those on offer with Tuono 660 are Concept Black, Iridium Grey and Acid Gold.
Aprilia RS 660, Tuono 660 powertrain
Aprilia RS 600 is powered by a new 659cc, parallel-twin engine that is Euro5 compliant. It is capable of producing 100 hp of max power at 10,500 rpm and 67 Nm of max torque at 8,500 rpm. Tuono 660 will have the same engine, but it will be tuned to deliver lesser power and torque.
Both motorcycles share several mechanical bits such as 41mm Kayaba USD fork and monoshock rear suspension. Braking system comprises 320 mm disc with four-piston Brembo radial callipers at the front and 220 mm disc with two pistons Brembo at the rear.

Apart from scooters, Aprilia’s current portfolio in India comprises three litre-class motorcycles – RSV4 1100 Factory, Tuono V4 1100 Factory and Tuono V4 1100 RR. All three share the same 1077cc DOHC 64-degree V4 engine, but have different power and torque output. Designed in Italy for India, the Aprilia SXR 160 is a combination of a Maxi-scooter and a regular scooter

Aprilia SXR 160 is the latest offering from Italian scooter makers Piaggio. It was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo last year, launched in India in December 2020 and bookings opened soon after. Launch date was set for earlier last year but the pandemic situation caused some delay.

Now deliveries of this maxi-scooter have commenced in the country. The new SXR 160 is priced Rs.1,25,997. This ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made for India’ scooter has been designed in Italy. It boasts of a mix of design and as the company calls it a ‘Crossmax’ design combining the sportiness of a maxi-scooter along with the comfort and practicality of a regular scooter.
It gets a full front apron and a tall windscreen and twin LED headlamps, LED DRLs, large seats, feather touch switchgear, lockable split glove box, USB charging port and 5 spoke 12 inch alloy wheels fitted with MRF Zapper tyres are also a part of its onboard features. Below is the latest TVC video.

2021 Aprilia SXR 160 is powered by a 160cc, single cylinder, 3 valve, air cooled and fuel injected engine that also powers the SR160. This engine, which complies with the new BS6 emission standards, makes 10.9 hp power at 7,100 rpm and 11.6 Nm torque at 5,750 rpm.
It gets telescopic front forks and single adjustable suspension at the rear while braking is disc brake up front and drum unit at the rear with ABS. Its chassis ensures better stability even at higher speeds while its highly efficient engine offers good low end and strong mid-range power output.
The Aprilia SXR 160 is now being delivered to customers across India. It has no real competition in the country. As on date the Aprilia scooter lineup apart from the new SXR 160, consists of the SR160 and SR125. The Italian two wheeler maker also has plans to launch premium motorcycles later this year in India. 2021 Aprilia Tuono
At the time of its launch, Aprilia Tuono 660 will rival the likes of Kawasaki Z 650 and the upcoming Triumph Trident 660

After a long wait, Aprilia has finally revealed its upcoming middleweight roadster Tuono 660 ahead of its India launch. The Italian bikemaker had first revealed a concept version of the new Touno 660 back at the EICMA in Milan in 2019. Interestingly, the final product is very similar to the concept showcased earlier.
The naked street fighter is based on the same underpinnings as its faired sibling RS 660 which was also recently revealed. Tuono 660 was spotted testing on Italian roads on multiple occasions in recent past. Aprilia likes to call it a scaled-down version of its flagship naked superbike Tuono 1100.
Design
Starting with its design, it gets a signature three-pod headlight setup which is inspired by its fully faired sibling. These are nicely rounded by LED DRLs which accentuates its visual appeal.
Despite being a naked motorcycle, it adopts a semi-faired design with the engine and other mechanical components exposed from sides even though it features a large underbelly cowl that leads to a short exhaust pipe. It also carries forward the same fuel tank and alloy wheels from RS 660.
Aprilia Tuono 660
It will be made available in three colour options- Iridium Grey, Concept Black and a new Acid Gold colour scheme which is also offered in RS 660. Seating position is noticeably aggressive with yoke mounted “Renthal” style clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs.
As mentioned earlier mechanically, the naked Tuono 660 is similar to its faired sibling. It has the same suspension setup from Kayaba although with a slightly different tuning. It gets 41mm USD forks at front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at rear.
Features on offer
In terms of features, it gets a fully digital instrument cluster and a host of electronic aids under Aprilia’s Performance Ride Control system. This system consists of features such as multi-level traction control, cornering ABS, anti-wheelie control, cruise control, engine brake and five selectable engine maps.

Along with these, Tuono 660 comes with a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) which offers ride-by-wire technology and five riding modes- three road-based and two track-based.
Mechanical Details
Performance is the most crucial aspect, its 659cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank holds great value. This unit is also offered in RS 660 although it is slightly detuned in this naked motorcycle.
Aprilia Tuono 660
In Tuono 660, this unit cranks out 95 bhp which is 5 horses less than its fully-faired derivative and a torque output of 67 Nm. Even with the detuning, the naked roadster feels exhilarating to ride since it weighs only 183 kg which translates to an impressive power to weight ratio.
In the USA, this naked motorcycle will be offered at USD 10,499 (INR 7.69 lakh) for the standard model and USD 10,699 (INR 7.84 lakh) for the trippy Acid Gold colour scheme. In the UK it will be retailed at £9700 (INR 9.65 lakh). Aprilia is also set to launch a product based on the same 660cc platform later this year named Tuareg 660.
