As of now, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Ninja 400 are the only ones in this space as of now. Royal Enfield’s 650cc portfolio falls somewhat falls into this space owing to its extremely competitive pricing.Benelli 302R used to be the only Italian in this space. But now, Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia is set to enter this space soon. The company is testing a new motorcycle. Rumour mill suggests that it will have a 440cc parallel-twin engine that should take on Kawasaki Ninja 400 and upcoming Yamaha R3. Let’s take a look.Aprilia 440cc faired motorcycle – Benvenuto in IndiaThe first set of images surfaced on the internet earlier this year. As of now, multi-cylinder motorcycle market hugely favours Royal Enfield. That said, there is enough wiggle room for sporty, fully-faired motorcycles from pedigree brands. That is where Yamaha is betting big with Yamaha R3 and MT-03.Aprilia 440cc faired motorcycle will feature a sporty design language reminiscent of its elder sibling RS 660. Previous test mules spotted in January featured full camouflage which gave very little hints as to what it was packing. New test mules seem to have production-ready body. There’s no branding on it and this won’t be final finishing.Previous spy shotsFairing is aggressive and we can see multiple cuts in it for airflow. It looks like it has a perimeter frame and it might get contrasting paint to accentuate. In this case, silver. Front fascia is likely to feature twin headlight design and there is an underbelly exhaust instead of a side-slung unit. All these attributes scream RS 660.What wonders it holds – ExpectedRider’s triangle will be aggressive and should command a lot of commitment from rider. We can see a muscular fuel tank and we hope it is around 17L to 20L for an impressive tank range. There is a functional visor and fairing-mounted ORVMs. We can see a rectangular fully-digital instrument cluster that is likely to be a TFT unit.Split seats are very probable and pillion seat had testing equipment strapped on. Split tail lights take inspiration from Ducati Diavel or Bajaj Dominar. There is no tyre hugger, which could be a part of production model. Other componentry includes a custom-design swingarm, single-disc setup at both ends, alloy wheels, USD telescopic front forks and mono-shock rear.Front brake seems to be of floating type. Because of the blurry image, can’t say for sure. Engine is likely to be a 440cc parallel-twin unit with around 45 bhp of power and 40 Nm of torque. 6-speed gearbox, ride-by-wire, slipper-clutch, quick shifter (bi-directional), DOHC setup, traction control, dual-channel ABS, cornering ABS are likely to be onboard. Images – EVO IndiaThe premium end of 300cc sports bike segment is currently occupied by KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR 310, BMW G 310 RR and Honda CBR300R. Kawasaki Ninja 300 comes close with its Rs. 3.4 lakh price tag. Keeway has spotted an opportunity here and recently launched K 300 R. However, Italians have been surprisingly absent from this segment.Sure, we had the Benelli 302 R with its massive body and dual disc brake setup at the front which looked like a proper superbike. But it was offset by its heft and after that, no Italians have ever stepped into this segment. Until now. There is a new kid on the block who is under testing to have a piece of this pie. It is a new Aprilia sports bike spotted testing in Baramati.New Aprilia Sports BikeThe new motorcycle is wrapped to the gills with camouflage and has testing equipment strapped on its back monitoring various parameters. Design language is mostly in line with what this Italian marque offers under its RS lineup. In effect, it looks like a toned-down version of an RS 660, which is not a bad thing in any way.Even though it was clad with camouflage, the front fascia does resemble that of an RS 660. It gets a twin headlight setup with a pilot lamp in the centre. These are likely to be LEDs as every other bike in this segment provides LEDs. Taillights and blinkers are likely to be LED too.New Aprilia 300cc-400cc sports bike for India spiedSeating posture looks fairly committed. There is a decent amount of lean to reach its handlebars and rider footpegs are rear-set. This gives a lot of leverage for the rider to tip the motorcycle into a corner. The front wind deflector looks to be a little lower in angle and its chunky fuel tank seems to provide enough grip for the rider.Componentry is likely to change until it reaches the series production phase. That said, this test mule offers USD forks at front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Swingarm looks like it is an aluminium unit and not a box-section unit. Disc brakes at front are skinny, like the ones found on current gen KTM RC 390.Engine & PricingEngine specs are not yet known. It can be speculated that it would displace between 300cc to 400cc with a single-cylinder architecture and make around 35 to 40 bhp of power and 35 Nm of torque. Features like ride-by-wire, liquid cooling, slip and assist clutch, quick shifter (at least for upshifting), dual channel ABS, riding modes and a modern TFT display for instrumentation can be offered.New Aprilia 300cc-400cc sports bike for India spiedAprilia is not very popular in India where motorcycles are concerned, despite a strong presence globally. We get the RS and Tuono lineup in both middleweight and liter class segments. When Japanese offerings in middleweight and liter classes are brought into picture, Aprilia’s offerings come off as expensive.If only Aprilia had launched RS 150 and Tuono 150 in India and established a brand identity in the affordable sporty motorcycle segment, it could have been a lot easier to launch and market this upcoming motorcycle. Royal Enfield has used this platform to showcase Super Meteor 650 and a custom Scrambler based on Interceptor 650. Let’s take a look at what Piaggio has in its stalls that grabbed eyeballs.Piaggio Group has Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa under its umbrella. They showcased both ICE and electric 2-wheelers under Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa brands. Under Moto Guzzi brand, V100 Mandello was showcased which debuts with the company’s new ‘Compact Block’ engine and a host of electronic goodies along with it.Alongside V100 Mandello, the classic Moto Guzzi V7 was showcased in a Stone Special Edition with a new colour scheme and graphics. A Special Edition of Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber was also showcased. This gets dual-tone colour schemes and a lot of black finishes to provide a unique look.Aprilia Electrica, Piaggio 1 E-Scooter ShowcasedUnder Aprilia brand, Piaggio showcased Aprilia Electrica and Aprilia RS 660 Extrema. Former is an electric super-moto style motorcycle, while the latter is a lighter version of RS 660. The company has achieved this with extensive carbon fiber bodywork. The heavier exhaust on RS 660 is replaced with a lighter one which still adheres to legalities.Aprilia RS 660 ExtremaStandard RS 660 got a decent electronics package in the form of wheelie control, traction control and cornering ABS. Extrema adds to it a new software that enables riders to switch to a GP style shift pattern. Result, Aprilia RS 660 weighs only 166 kg and makes 100 bhp.Aprilia Electrica was the one that grabbed our attention the most. There’s a good reason too. For one, it doesn’t look like an exotic electric motorcycle. Instead, it looks like something that can be daily-used and be affordable for the masses. Secondly, the design approaches a supermoto motorcycle. Something in line with a Ducati Hypermotard.It gets a tall seat, enabling ample ground clearance. The twin-spar chassis incorporates its battery and motor. It gets USD forks at front and a mono-shock at the rear. Design is extremely minimalistic and clean. Swingarm design is attractive and it hides the chain drive behind it connecting a mid-mounted motor and rear wheel.Moto Guzzi V100 MondelloVespa GTS & GTVPiaggio has given a thorough update to its 1 electric scooter for MY2023. For starters, it is called Piaggio 1 Active and gets a performance bump as compared to its previous iteration. It now gets a peak power output of 3 kW. This is enough to reach a top speed of 60 km/h. Range promised by the company is 85 km. LED lighting and colour instrument panel are offered too.Both GTS and GTV come with a new look that is distinguishable from their previous models. Especially GTV, which goes to its historical roots and gets front fender-mounted headlights. Something that original Vespa scooter used to get. Modern features like LED lighting, ABS, traction control and modern instrumentation are positive additions.2023 Vespa GTVGTS gets 4 different versions and 14 colours to go with them. The older model churns out 21 hp and 21 Nm. It’s a significant boost, which is likely to deliver tangible improvements in performance. SR Max250 HPE has two ride modes of Eco and Sport, which can be activated via dedicated buttons on handlebar.In Indian market, a comparable product could be Keeway Vieste 300 that was launched earlier this year in May. Vieste 300 has a 278.2 cc motor that makes 18.7 hp at 6,500 rpm and 22 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Clearly, Aprilia SR Max250 HPE is better equipped even with a small displacement motor. However, Keeway shouldn’t be worried, as Aprilia SR Max250 HPE is unlikely to be launched here anytime soon. Rider seat section comes with raised back support for extra comfort. For the pillion, the scooter has retractable foot rests and thick grab rails.Aprilia SR Max250 HPE featuresAs compared to the older model that has seat height of 785/815 mm, SR Max250 HPE offers 775/815 mm seat height options. The 775 mm seat height variant will make handling more convenient for shorter riders. It can also work for learners and female users. In recent news, Aprilia Storm 125cc scooter disc variant has just been discontinued and only the drum brake variant is on sale.Vespa, Aprilia Prices – June 2022Vespa scooter prices for June 2022 start at Rs 1.15 lakh for the ZX 125 and at Rs 1.29 for the VXL 125. The Vespa VXL 150 and SXL 125 are now priced at Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 1.33 lakh respectively while SXL 150 carries a new price tag of Rs 1.47 lakh. Vespa also has the Racing Sixties 125 and 150 in the company lineup priced at Rs 1.39 and Rs 1.53 respectively while the top of the line Elegante 150 is priced at Rs 1.55 (all prices ex-showroom).Aprilia had hiked prices in May 2022 by a maximum of Rs 6,728 and now scooter prices have been hiked by a maximum of Rs 5,000 from June 2022. The Storm 125 cc scooter, which was at 1.06 lakh in May 2022 has been increased by Rs 5,000 to Rs 1.11 lakh from 1st June 2022.The SR RST 125 also sees a price hike of Rs 5,000 to Rs 1.21 lakh from Rs 1.16 lakh while the SR RST 160 comes in with a Rs 4,000 higher price to Rs 1.30 lakh from Rs 1.26 lakh it commanded in May 2022. Aprilia SR RST Race (Rs.1.39 lakh) and SR RST Carbon (1.32 lakh) along with the SXR 125 (Rs 1.31 lakh) and SXR 160 (1.42 lakh) each see prices increased by Rs 4,000 over their May 2022 pricing.Vespa, Aprilia Prices – June 2022Vespa, Aprilia sales – April 2022Vespa and Aprilia sales ended April 2022 on a positive note. Vespa sales increased 39.74 percent YoY to 3,594 units in April 2022, up from 2,572 units sold in April 2021 relating to a volume growth of 1,022 units. MoM sales were down 3.02 percent over 3,706 units sold in March 2022.Vespa Scooter Sales April 2022It was both the Vespa 125cc and 150cc scooters that saw YoY growth of 42.40 percent and 5.41 percent respectively. 125cc sales stood at 3,399 units in April 2022, up from 2,387 units sold in April 2021 commanding a 94.57 percent share in the company lineup. MoM sales dipped 3.08 percent from 3,507 units sold in March 2022. 150cc sales increased to 195 units from 185 units sold in the same month of the previous year while MoM sales fell 2.01 percent as against 199 units sold in April 2022.Aprilia scooter sales on the other hand saw a 5.64 percent YoY growth while MoM sales dipped 11.76 percent. The company’s sales stood at 1,629 units in April 2022, up 87 units over 1,542 units sold in April 2021 while sales dipped 11.76 percent over 1,846 units sold in March 2022.Aprilia Scooter Sales April 2022Of the company’s 125cc range, sales stood at 1,037 units in April 2022, up 18.11 percent over 878 units sold in April 2021 with a 159 unit volume growth and 63.33 percent shareholding. 160cc scooter sales were down 10.84 percent YoY to 592 units from 664 units sold in April 2021 leading to a 72 unit volume de-growth.     Aprilia Storm 125cc Scooter Disc Variant Discontinued

    This new development will be in effect from 1st July of 2022 – Only drum brake variant available post thatImage – Autoholic ManishFollowing the success of SR series of sporty scooters in India, Aprilia attempted to take on the masses with a budget-oriented scooter. SR series had 125 cc and 150 cc options with the latter now bored out to displace 160 cc. These were pricey options that didn’t really tickle the fancy of an average Indian.Aprilia wanted to take 125 cc scooter segment by storm. So, they based their Storm 125 on the SR platform with their tried and tested 125 cc engine that also does duties on Vespa scooters. To get the price down, there were some cuttings. Most notable of them were the smaller 12” wheels at both ends and a lack of a disc brake.  Aprilia Storm 125 Disc Variant DiscontinuedEven with these deletions, Storm was still just as pricey, if not more, than other rivals in the 125 cc scooter segment. When Storm 125 received its BS6 update, Aprilia also added a front disc brake as an option for around Rs. 11,000. Storm 125 has had a disc variant as an option ever since. Until now, though.Fast-forwarding to 2022, Piaggio, the parent company of both Aprilia and Vespa, has revealed that they are going to discontinue the disc brake variant of their Storm 125 scooter. The Italian automaker hasn’t cited a reason as to why this sudden move.Aprilia 125cc Storm DiscontinuedBut we can speculate that Storm 125’s front disc variant was in low demand. Or the company might be luring buyers to just step up to buy the SR 125 for around Rs. 11,000 more than the price of the disc variant of Storm 125. Either way, this new development will be brought into motion from 1st July of 2022.Specs & CompetitionAprilia Storm 125 is powered by the familiar 125 cc engine from Piaggio that powers scooters of both its subsidiary brands in India. It is a 124.4 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine making 9.78 bhp at 7500 RPM and 9.6 Nm at 5,500 RPM. It gets 12” wheels wrapped by knobby and block-pattern tyres that almost give it a scrambler-like appearance. From July 1st, it will also lack a disc brake at the front while the drum variant will continue to be on sale.Aprilia Storm 125 is priced at Rs. 1.01 lakh. If we look at the competition and their respective pricing, Drum variant of Storm 125 is almost Rs. 20,000 more expensive than respective counterparts from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Hero.Even though Storm 125 comes off as pricey, it has the Aprilia brand value to back it up. It competes with other 125 cc scooters in the market and price bracket like TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Access 125, Honda Grazia, Honda Activa 125, Yamaha Ray ZR, TVS Jupiter 125, Hero Maestro 125, Yamaha Fascino 125, Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the newly launched Suzuki Avenis 125.Source More

Prices have been increased in the range of Rs 6,276 to Rs 6,728. The most affordable is Aprilia Storm Disc, which will now cost Rs 1,06,331. Aprilia SR RST 125 new price is Rs 1,15,877, an increase of Rs 6,428. Next is Aprilia SR RST 160, available at a starting price of Rs 1,25,895.Aprilia SXR 125 new price is Rs 1,27,206, an increase of Rs 6,549. Folks interested in Aprilia SR RST Carbon will have to pay Rs 1,28,406, an increase of Rs 6,577. Aprilia SR RST Race is now available at Rs 1,35,147, an increase of Rs 6,657. Highest price hike of Rs 6,728 is for Aprilia SXR 160. It will now cost Rs 1,38,483.As compared to price hikes announced by other two-wheeler manufacturers, the quantum of hike is relatively more in case of Aprilia scooters. This may be due to the fact that most other OEMs choose to introduce smaller increments, multiple times in a year. In comparison, Aprilia appears to have increased prices all at once. It remains to be seen how the new prices will impact sales.Aprilia Scooter Prices May 2022Aprilia scooters vs. rivalsAprilia 125cc scooters have quite a few rivals such as TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Burgman Street 125, Avenis, Yamaha RayZR and Fascino, Honda Grazia and Hero Maestro Edge. However, in the 160cc segment, Aprilia currently has only Yamaha Aerox 155 as the primary rival. Aerox 155 was launched last year in September at a starting price of Rs 1.29 lakh. It is now priced at about Rs 1.37 lakh, ex-sh.Demand for higher capacity scooters is relatively less here. In the same price range, most users will prefer to choose a motorcycle. However, Aprilia can be credited with making the first move. It is possible that new products could be introduced, as demand picks up for these high performance scooters. The likes of Honda and Suzuki will be looking to tap this space if there are ample opportunities.In terms of performance, Aprilia scooters are almost equal in comparison to their respective rivals. Aprilia 125cc scooters are powered by a 125cc 4V TECH FI engine that generates 9.92 PS of max power and 9.7 Nm of peak torque. Aprilia 160cc scooters utilize a 160cc motor that makes 11 PS and 11.6 Nm.In the future, Aprilia may also launch electric scooters here. While there is no official confirmation, a hint comes from Piaggio’s plans to develop an electric scooter that is specially designed for India. Its sporting legacy also translates to fun and fast bikes which have a substantial consumer base all across the world. While the Italian brand has a very thin lineup of motorcycles in India, it continues to grow its presence in other international markets.The Piaggio-led company has launched Aprilia Tuono 250 in China which goes by the name GPR 250S. Reports of Aprilia developing a new-gen model of the naked streetfighter had started surfacing last year. A similar 125cc version of the naked street racer made its debut in European markets last year.2022 Aprilia Tuono 250One look at the new Tuono 250 and you realise that it is a very different product from its predecessor. The bike gets a completely redesigned front fascia which is dominated by new triple pod projector LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs that gives an aggressive and mean appearance.It also gets familiar front and side fairing which is unique to the Aprilia line of naked motorcycles. However, in this case, fairings are more prominent and play a significant role in amplifying the sports bike appeal of the bike. The side quarter fairing not only provides a distinct look but also adds to its aerodynamic qualities. More importantly, it also incorporates a larger radiator shroud for a new liquid cooler.2022 Aprilia Tuono 250ccOther notable visual highlights include a muscular fuel tank, a single-piece saddle, a raised tail section and a superbike-style windscreen upfront. Side fairings also flaunt striking new graphics to accentuate its sporty appeal The engine bay is protected by a large belly pan while the bike’s internals and running gear have been blacked out.Mechanical SpecsPowering Tuono 250 is the same 249cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine borrowed from RS 250. Like the fully faired sports bike, this motor pumps out 27.5 bhp at 9000 rpm and a peak torque 21.5 Nm at 7500 rpm. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a 6-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm USD forks up front and a mono-shock linked to the swingarm at rear.The naked streetfighter rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 100/80 and 130/70 section tyres at front and rear respectively. Braking duties are handled by single disc brakes at both ends complemented by dual-channel ABS. At a kerb weight of 145 kg, Tuono 250 is fairly nimble for its class.Expected India LaunchCurrently, Aprilia retails only four motorcycles in India including RS 660, Tuono 660, RSV4 1100 Factory and Tuono Factory. Reports of the Italian brand launching entry-level quarter-litre models in India had floated across the internet previously.
