How Aprilia RS 457 Fares Against Rivals – R3, Ninja 400, RC 390

Aprilia RS 457Aprilia RS 457 will be locally manufactured at Piaggio’s facility in Baramati and could pose an attractive price pointPremium fully-faired motorcycle sub 500cc motorcycle segment is on the boil with Yamaha R3 and Aprilia RS 457 incoming. However, we have KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400 operating in this space. Aprilia RS 457 was recently unveiled and it does look very promising. But Aprilia has not divulged an elaborate spec sheet. With what we know, how does it fare with its intended rivals?Aprilia RS 457 Vs rivalsRounding the displacement number in the name is a standard practice. KTM 390 range has a 373.2 cc engine. Just like other Aprilia motorcycles in the portfolio, RS 457 doesn’t get a rounded-off number in its name. It has a 457cc twin-cylinder DOHC 4V engine that generates 47 bhp of peak power.Aprilia hasn’t yet revealed torque numbers. But there is a probability of it sporting segment-leading torque figures as well. That said, Ninja 400 has 44.7 bhp and R3 has 41.42 bhp of peak power from their 399cc twin-cylinder engine and 321cc twin-cylinder engine respectively.Despite having a single-cylinder engine, KTM RC 390 makes 42.9 bhp of power and and 37 Nm of torque. Interestingly, KTM’s peak power and torque figures come in at lower RPMs than Ninja 400 and R3. All motorcycles pack a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch. RC 390 packs a bi-directional quick-shifter and Aprilia RS 457 is likely to offer one as well.Aprilia RS457 Vs RivalsThe bigger engine on Aprilia RS 457 makes its presence known especially where weight is concerned. Aprilia quotes a wet weight of 175 kg, which is higher when compared to Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 400. Interestingly, KTM RC 390 weighs 172 kg, despite having almost half of the engine components of its twin-cylinder rivals.Which motorcycle offers more tech?Aprilia hasn’t revealed dimensions and other quantitative attributes. All the motorcycles in this comparo feature single-disc setups at both ends. We would have liked Aprilia RS 457 to have twin disc setup. The last Italian offering in this space, Benelli 302R offered twin disc setup at the front, for that sinister big bike appeal.Dual-channel ABS will be standard at this price point. Aprilia RS 457 features a 41mm USD telescopic front fork setup and a rear mono-shock setup. Aprilia RS 457 sports a perimeter frame and the company flaunts it as part of the design and aesthetic. All LED lighting package is expected at this price point. However, Kawasaki doesn’t offer LED LED turn indicators even for Rs. 5.19 lakh (ex-sh). Also, Ninja 400 looks the oldest in this bunch as it still features a semi-digital instrument cluster. Aprilia RS 457 feel a lot more modern in this regard and packs a 5” TFT configurable screen. Yamaha offers fully-digital instrument cluster with R3.In terms of pricing, Aprilia could establish a lower price point as it will be locally produced at Piaggio’s facility at Baramati. So, a price point of around Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 4.5 lakh should prove logical. Yamaha is likely to target a similar price bracket with R3 as well. The value quotient of KTM RC 390 still stands tall as the sticker price is Rs. 3.16 lakh (ex-sh). More

It is likely to be equipped with a 440cc parallel-twin motor.Aprilia RS 440 TeaserAprilia RS 440 will also work to fill the gap in the company’s India portfolio. Aprilia RS440 will make its global debut on 7th September, reveals official teaser. From its outer appearance, the engine casing onboard Aprilia RS 440 seems familiar to that of Aprilia RS 660 and Tuono 660. It is likely to be a tweaked version, with power output of around 45-55hp. Official numbers are yet to be announced, but it could be close to that of Kawasaki Ninja 400. In comparison, Aprilia’s larger 660cc motor churns out 100 hp of max power. The smaller capacity 440cc parallel-twin motor is likely to get a simpler architecture that will be cheaper to manufacture.Images of the test mule reveal a balanced riding posture, with the leaning angle being not too aggressive. Although the foot pegs are rear-set, the pulled-back handlebar reduces the overall leaning angle. Aprilia 440cc Spied Testing Again – New Details (KTM RC 390 Rival)

New Aprilia RS 440 front design. Image – Evo IndiaThe new 440cc parallel-twin engine on new Aprilia RS 440 is expected to develop around 45 bhp of power and 40 Nm of torqueAfter Benelli ceased production of 302R, the 300cc to 500cc multi-cylinder motorcycle segment has been yearning for an Italian offering. Aprilia seems to have figured this out. The Italian marquee is developing a brand new motorcycle that will sit below its RS 660 middle-weight super sport motorcycle.New Aprilia RS 440 – Baby RS with a pedigree?Aprilia is shooting for this genre with an all-new platform and engine. This will prove to be a more beginner-friendly offering than RS 660. Also, prove as a step up for motorcyclists upgrading from smaller machines. There have been multiple test mule sightings for Aprilia’s new baby RS. New spy shots show refinements in body design. We can also see both front, side and rear views of Aprilia’s new sports bike.New Aprilia RS 440From the front, Aprilia family genes are immediately evident. We can see a similar LED DRL design as the new RS 660. Not only do these LED DRLs underline headlights, but they shoot up into its fairing. There is a split headlight design and we hope both units have low and high beams in each.A neatly integrated windshield that should provide decent wind protection when tucked. We couldn’t see any exposed turn indicators at the fairing. This might be an indication that LED DRLs might double as turn indicators.New Aprilia RS 440There may be flush turn indicators in the fairing too. Fairing is very handsome and can be the new Aprilia RS 440’s main strength. Towards the side, we can see the exposed cast perimeter frame along with a sculpted fuel tank.Componentry and powertrainsThere is a neat underbelly exhaust that is a sign of mass centralization. Fairing covers most of the engine and we can see some of it. Rear swingarm is a custom cast unit that isn’t as sophisticated as the one on its bigger brother RS 660. Braking is less sophisticated too, as RS 660 has twin disc setup in the front.New Aprilia RS 440 has a single disc setup at both ends. Front seems to have radial calipers. Twin disc setup at the front could look a lot better and complement the overall design aesthetic Aprilia is going for. LED tail lights look smart. RS 440 lacks a tyre hugger. This could debut a new twin-cylinder 440cc engine with around 45 bhp and 40 Nm along with liquid cooling and 6-speed gearbox. Fully digital instrument screen, dual-channel ABS, bi-directional quick shifter are highly likely. Recently launched 2024 KTM 390 Duke and Kawasaki Ninja 400 are primary rivals. More

Aprilia 440cc Faired Motorcycle Spied – Eyes on the Prize

New Aprilia 440cc faired MotorcycleGame On: Aprilia’s New 440cc Faired Motorcycle Takes Aim at Yamaha R3 and Ninja 300 and 400The sub 500cc multi-cylinder motorcycle space is likely to get heated up with the launch of Yamaha R3 and MT-03. As of now, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Ninja 400 are the only ones in this space as of now. Royal Enfield’s 650cc portfolio falls somewhat falls into this space owing to its extremely competitive pricing.Benelli 302R used to be the only Italian in this space. But now, Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia is set to enter this space soon. The company is testing a new motorcycle. Rumour mill suggests that it will have a 440cc parallel-twin engine that should take on Kawasaki Ninja 400 and upcoming Yamaha R3. Let’s take a look.Aprilia 440cc faired motorcycle – Benvenuto in IndiaThe first set of images surfaced on the internet earlier this year. As of now, multi-cylinder motorcycle market hugely favours Royal Enfield. That said, there is enough wiggle room for sporty, fully-faired motorcycles from pedigree brands. That is where Yamaha is betting big with Yamaha R3 and MT-03.Aprilia 440cc faired motorcycle will feature a sporty design language reminiscent of its elder sibling RS 660. Previous test mules spotted in January featured full camouflage which gave very little hints as to what it was packing. New test mules seem to have production-ready body. There’s no branding on it and this won’t be final finishing.Previous spy shotsFairing is aggressive and we can see multiple cuts in it for airflow. It looks like it has a perimeter frame and it might get contrasting paint to accentuate. In this case, silver. Front fascia is likely to feature twin headlight design and there is an underbelly exhaust instead of a side-slung unit. All these attributes scream RS 660.What wonders it holds – ExpectedRider’s triangle will be aggressive and should command a lot of commitment from rider. We can see a muscular fuel tank and we hope it is around 17L to 20L for an impressive tank range. There is a functional visor and fairing-mounted ORVMs. We can see a rectangular fully-digital instrument cluster that is likely to be a TFT unit.Split seats are very probable and pillion seat had testing equipment strapped on. Split tail lights take inspiration from Ducati Diavel or Bajaj Dominar. There is no tyre hugger, which could be a part of production model. Other componentry includes a custom-design swingarm, single-disc setup at both ends, alloy wheels, USD telescopic front forks and mono-shock rear.Front brake seems to be of floating type. Because of the blurry image, can’t say for sure. Engine is likely to be a 440cc parallel-twin unit with around 45 bhp of power and 40 Nm of torque. 6-speed gearbox, ride-by-wire, slipper-clutch, quick shifter (bi-directional), DOHC setup, traction control, dual-channel ABS, cornering ABS are likely to be onboard. Launch timeline is unknown. But 2024 could be the year.Image Source : Powerdrift More

New Aprilia 300cc Sports Bike Spied In India – RC 390, Apache 310 Rival

A single-cylinder engine displacing between 300 to 400 cc and power figures to match its rivals are expected from new Aprilia sports bikeNew Aprilia 300cc-400cc sports bike for India spied. Images – EVO IndiaThe premium end of 300cc sports bike segment is currently occupied by KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR 310, BMW G 310 RR and Honda CBR300R. Kawasaki Ninja 300 comes close with its Rs. 3.4 lakh price tag. Keeway has spotted an opportunity here and recently launched K 300 R. However, Italians have been surprisingly absent from this segment.Sure, we had the Benelli 302 R with its massive body and dual disc brake setup at the front which looked like a proper superbike. But it was offset by its heft and after that, no Italians have ever stepped into this segment. Until now. There is a new kid on the block who is under testing to have a piece of this pie. It is a new Aprilia sports bike spotted testing in Baramati.New Aprilia Sports BikeThe new motorcycle is wrapped to the gills with camouflage and has testing equipment strapped on its back monitoring various parameters. Design language is mostly in line with what this Italian marque offers under its RS lineup. In effect, it looks like a toned-down version of an RS 660, which is not a bad thing in any way.Even though it was clad with camouflage, the front fascia does resemble that of an RS 660. It gets a twin headlight setup with a pilot lamp in the centre. These are likely to be LEDs as every other bike in this segment provides LEDs. Taillights and blinkers are likely to be LED too.New Aprilia 300cc-400cc sports bike for India spiedSeating posture looks fairly committed. There is a decent amount of lean to reach its handlebars and rider footpegs are rear-set. This gives a lot of leverage for the rider to tip the motorcycle into a corner. The front wind deflector looks to be a little lower in angle and its chunky fuel tank seems to provide enough grip for the rider.Componentry is likely to change until it reaches the series production phase. That said, this test mule offers USD forks at front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Swingarm looks like it is an aluminium unit and not a box-section unit. Disc brakes at front are skinny, like the ones found on current gen KTM RC 390.Engine & PricingEngine specs are not yet known. It can be speculated that it would displace between 300cc to 400cc with a single-cylinder architecture and make around 35 to 40 bhp of power and 35 Nm of torque. Features like ride-by-wire, liquid cooling, slip and assist clutch, quick shifter (at least for upshifting), dual channel ABS, riding modes and a modern TFT display for instrumentation can be offered.New Aprilia 300cc-400cc sports bike for India spiedAprilia is not very popular in India where motorcycles are concerned, despite a strong presence globally. We get the RS and Tuono lineup in both middleweight and liter class segments. When Japanese offerings in middleweight and liter classes are brought into picture, Aprilia’s offerings come off as expensive. If only Aprilia had launched RS 150 and Tuono 150 in India and established a brand identity in the affordable sporty motorcycle segment, it could have been a lot easier to launch and market this upcoming motorcycle. That said, pricing can go to Rs. 3.5 lakh (ex-sh).Source More

Aprilia Electrica concept showcased at 2022 EICMA show, looks like a promising EV for the massesAprilia Electrica ConceptEICMA is a spectacular platform for manufacturers to showcase their products to the world. Royal Enfield has used this platform to showcase Super Meteor 650 and a custom Scrambler based on Interceptor 650. Former is an electric super-moto style motorcycle, while the latter is a lighter version of RS 660. The company has achieved this with extensive carbon fiber bodywork. The heavier exhaust on RS 660 is replaced with a lighter one which still adheres to legalities.Aprilia RS 660 ExtremaStandard RS 660 got a decent electronics package in the form of wheelie control, traction control and cornering ABS. Extrema adds to it a new software that enables riders to switch to a GP style shift pattern. Result, Aprilia RS 660 weighs only 166 kg and makes 100 bhp.Aprilia Electrica was the one that grabbed our attention the most. There’s a good reason too. For one, it doesn’t look like an exotic electric motorcycle. Instead, it looks like something that can be daily-used and be affordable for the masses. Secondly, the design approaches a supermoto motorcycle. Something in line with a Ducati Hypermotard. It gets a tall seat, enabling ample ground clearance. The twin-spar chassis incorporates its battery and motor. It gets USD forks at front and a mono-shock at the rear. Design is extremely minimalistic and clean. Swingarm design is attractive and it hides the chain drive behind it connecting a mid-mounted motor and rear wheel.Moto Guzzi V100 MondelloVespa GTS & GTVPiaggio has given a thorough update to its 1 electric scooter for MY2023. For starters, it is called Piaggio 1 Active and gets a performance bump as compared to its previous iteration. It now gets a peak power output of 3 kW. This is enough to reach a top speed of 60 km/h. Range promised by the company is 85 km. LED lighting and colour instrument panel are offered too. Both GTS and GTV come with a new look that is distinguishable from their previous models. Especially GTV, which goes to its historical roots and gets front fender-mounted headlights. Something that original Vespa scooter used to get. Modern features like LED lighting, ABS, traction control and modern instrumentation are positive additions.2023 Vespa GTVGTS gets 4 different versions and 14 colours to go with them. Vespa Primavera Color Vibe gets a two-tone finish and wheels painted in bright blue, which looks distinctive. More
