Yezdi Production, Sales To Continue Despite Ban – Company To File Appeal

While Karnataka High Court has banned Classic Legends from using Yezdi name, the company is seeking legal advice and will file an appeal shortlyYezdi Motorcycle Ban Update. Image – JAY CHOUDHARYAt a time when Yezdi was just starting to gain traction, a court ruling has barred Classic Legends from using the ‘Yezdi’ trademark. In its order, the court said that the Yezdi trademark name remains the property of the official liquidator (OL) of Ideal Jawa. The case to ban the use of Yezdi trademark was filed by Ideal Jawa Employees Association. These developments are a setback for Classic Legends, which has been tasked to resurrect legendary motorcycle brands. After Jawa debuted in 2018, the company had launched Yezdi motorcycles in January 2022. It currently has three bikes – Yezdi Roadster, Scrambler and Adventure.End of Yezdi? While enthusiasts may be a bit disappointed with legal developments, Classic Legends has assured that production and sales will continue. It will be “subject to order of the Appellate Court”. The company will be challenging the court order and is hopeful of getting a favourable resolution. The case is a bit complicated, as it dates back to 1960 when Ideal Jawa (India) came into existence. Registration of Yezdi trademark was received in 1969. While Yezdi enjoyed its glorious days with a significant fan following, the company eventually started facing existential issues in the 1980s. As a result, the company decided to wind up operations in 1991. As part of the winding up process, an Official Liquidator was appointed in 2001.Yezdi Motorcycle Ban Update. Image – Jay ChoudharyAs the company did not pay the necessary fee to renew the Yezdi trademark, it lapsed and was removed by the Trademark Registry. In parallel, other developments were taking place such as launch of Yezdi website in 1998. Later in 2013 and 2014, the Yezdi trademark was registered in trademark offices in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. All these registrations were done by Mr. Boman Irani, who is the claimant of Yezdi trademark in this case.Apparently, no one bothered to file a case at that time since Yezdi trademark had hardly any financial value associated with it in 2013. No one would have thought that Yezdi brand would be revived and gain popularity once again. Now that Yezdi brand has decent financial worth, its ownership is being claimed by two parties. What happens next?As per current court ruling, Ideal Jawa Employees Association stands to gain significantly. The court has ordered that Boman Irani and Classic Legends should pay the company for all the gains made via the use of Yezdi trademark. The Official Liquidator of Ideal Jawa has been directed to appoint a Chartered Accountant firm that can provide an estimate of the overall gains made by Mr. Irani and Classic Legends from use of Yezdi trademark. Both Mr. Irani and Classic Legends have also been directed to pay Rs 10 lakh each to the Official Liquidator. The funds will be utilized for the winding up operations of Ideal Jawa. Classic Legends will be challenging the court order, as per legal recourse suggested by their lawyers. Meanwhile, Yezdi sales and production will continue, dependant on orders of the Appellate Court. It is possible that the matter may be resolved via an out-of-court settlement, as no one will benefit in case of a prolonged legal battle. More

Yezdi Trademark Under Liquidator’s Realm and not with Classic Legends – Karnataka HC

Karnataka high Court has restrained Classic Legends to stop usage of Yezdi trademark as Ideal Jawa owns itNew Yezdi Roadking Render – For Reference OnlyIdeal Jawa Pvt Ltd, one of Karnataka’s jewels and was an icon when Indian motorcycling history is considered. Yezdi is derived from the Czech word. Jezdi.Since inception, Yezdi trademark has been Ideal Jawa’s property and was resurrected by Mahindra’s subsidiary, Classic Legends after absence of over 2 decades. There are three models to choose from, Scrambler, Roadster and Adventure. In November 2022, the company registered growth in sales.Yezdi Trademark TussleThe court holds Boman Irani and Classic Legends liable to account and pay Ideal Jawa. This includes payment to Ideal Jawa for all gains accrued for using the Jawa trademark. They needs to provide all details of sales and earnings to the OL for all usage of ‘Yezdi’. The OL has been instructed to appoint a CA firm of repute to determine benefits accrued from use of Yezdi trademark. And once the trademarks are properly valued, OL is allowed to sell all trademarks, and associated rights and goodwill through auction at proper valuation. Additionally, Classic Legends and Boman Irani are fined Rs. 10 lakhs.Yezdi LineupWhen Ideal Jawa went defunct in 1996, all assets of the company including Yezdi trademark, fell into the domain of Liquidator’s office. In that state, Yezdi trademark couldn’t have been procured by anyone unless all dues of Ideal Jawa are fully cleared. Until then, Yezdi trademark is solely under the realm of Liquidator’s office.Ideal Jawa Employees Association took this to court. Karnataka High Court has now declared that all trademark registration certificates issued by registrar of trademarks of Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai as null and void to Boman Irani as done in bad faith. It is now directed by court to revert the trademark back to to Ideal Jawa through Official Liquidator, as they had never abandoned the trademark to begin with.OutcomeIdeal Jawa Employee Association had filed an application to registrar of trademarks against the trademark registrations of Yezdi to Classic Legends. The Association urged to raise funds from Ideal Jawa assets (Yezdi trademark) to settle creditor dues that stood tall for decades, including employee payments. The order is in abeyance for a period of a month. This so aggrieved parties can challenge it before the appellate forum.Classic Legends response – “The order is held in abeyance and the company is seeking legal advice on the matter. The company will be filing an appeal against the order shortly and is optimistic of securing favourable relief. In the interim, manufacturing and sale of motorcycles will continue, subject to orders of the Appellate Court.” More

Yezdi Roadking 250cc Restored, Looks Stunning – Old Vs Modified

The motorcycle has a 250cc 2-stroke single-cylinder engine with an integrated gear shifter / kick starter and dual exhaustsYezdi Old To New ModificationThe logical successor of Yezdi Oilking, Roadking was or is one of the most iconic motorcycles India ever witnessed. It was produced by Ideal Jawa Ltd, based out of Mysuru, Karnataka. Yezdi Roadking was in production since 1978 and with low demand, production ended in 1996.Towards the end of its life cycle, Yezdi Roadking had secured a permanent spot in the heart of its owners. With the dawn of 4-stroke era, 2-stroke motorcycles saw their demise. New replaces old. But that doesn’t hold true for everyone. There are people who go to great lengths to restore the motorcycle that plays with their heartstrings. Let’s take a look at one such person that got his Yezdi Roadking restored with many efforts.Yezdi Roadking RestoredOwner of this restored motorcycle is a cousin of YouTuber Mundodi Vlogs. He explains all the hassles that were involved in this process. He further explains how availability of parts quality is extremely scarce as production stopped decades ago. This robs the joy of restoring such classics. He detailed the painstaking processes involving multiple tinkering and metalworking jobs. Most of its body parts had rusted. The part that took the most hit due to rust was its fuel tank. Take a look at the walkaround video of Yezdi Roadking restored below.[embedded content][embedded content]It adversely affected its carburetor and fueling as well. Before restoration, this bike was DOA as its electrical harness was feasted upon by rats. The rake of the steering has been reduced which reduced the overall length and wheelbase too.The brakes were completely jammed and both front and rear suspensions were not functioning. With everything sorted out, the parts were restored to their original condition. Yezdi Roadking restored looks like it came right out of the factory and is real eye candy for classic bike enthusiasts.Specs & FeaturesYezdi Roadking is based on a single cradle chassis with square tubing instead of round. This chassis was believed to be very balanced, stable and agile. It has a racing heritage to it too. Yezdi Roadking is based on CZ 250 which was ridden by Jaroslav Falta who secured runner-up spot in 1974 Motocross World Championship. This bike won several Indian road races and rallies as well.Restored Yezdi RoadkingIt is powered by a 250cc 2-stroke single-cylinder engine with a dual exhaust setup. It was considered to be technologically advanced as it featured a semi-automatic clutch and Jawa / CZ’s trademark gear shifter / kick starter. Even with a 16L fuel tank, Yezdi Roadking only weighed 144 kg wet. Transmitting the engine’s power to the wheels is a 4-speed gearbox.Parts availability and good workmanship are what is dragging the restoration industry down. Parts of certain classic 2-stroke motorcycles are not readily available unlike Yamaha RX 100, which is still supported by the company. Speaking of RX 100, Yamaha has announced its comeback in the near future. Yezdi currently sells Roadster, Scrambler and Adventure. Do you think Classic Legends should revive the Roadking name? More

Yezdi Roadking 650cc Motorcycle To Rival Royal Enfield – Launch Soon

New Yezdi Roadking 650cc RenderThe upcoming Yezdi Roadking could utilise the 652cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from BSA Goldstar instead of the 334cc unit from Jawa
Yezdi brand made a resounding comeback to the Indian two-wheeler space earlier this month which involved the launch of three new motorcycles. These included Adventure, Scrambler and Roadster, each brand name denoting their characteristic and class of motorcycles.
However, we expected the Roadking moniker to make a comeback since it was the primary seller for Yezdi back in the 1980s and 90s. In fact, Classic Legends, maker of Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles in India, has also filed a trademark for the ‘Roadking’ name.
    Yezdi Roadking To Launch Next
New report reveals that a modern interpretation of the classic Yezdi Roadking is currently under development. This was confirmed by Anupam Thareja, Co-founder of Classic Legends. Thareja added that the motorcycle will be based on a bespoke architecture different from the dual-cradle frame underpinning current Yezdi models.
The upcoming Roadking will be the brand’s flagship model and could sit at the top of the Yezdi line-up. While the upcoming iteration of Roadking will surely be a modern affair, Classic Legends would hold onto some classic retro styling as it did with the Jawas and the new Yezdis.
    Yezdi Roadking Name Registered
    Bigger Source of Power
Since Roadking will be based on a new platform and will be a flagship model, it is also believed to get a new heart. In all likelihood, Yezdi could borrow the 652cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which recently made its debut in BSA Goldstar 650.
This engine is good enough to make 45 bhp and 55 Nm of peak torque. The motor is linked with a 5-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch. For reference, BSA is an iconic British motorcycle brand that was revived by Classic Legends last year.
The 650cc mill should be an automatic choice since Classic Legends would want to utilise this engine and platform in multiple models across different brands to optimise its investment costs. If indeed, Roadking will be powered by this motor, it will be a direct rival to the 650cc Twins from Royal Enfield- Interceptor and Continental GT.
    Expected Features
While its looks will be retro, the new Roadking will be laced with a piece of modern equipment comprising features like all-LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB charger, a semi-digital instrument cluster, multiple riding modes, and navigation. Hardware configurations are also expected to be similar to BSA Goldstar.
There is no clear indication of the exact launch timeline of Roadking. But unlike most others, Classic Legends have been faster at launching new motorcycles. Considering that the BSA 650 is already out in the market, Yezdi 650 Roadking should not take long to make its debut. If not later this year, Roadking 650 could probably debut next year, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Yezdi’s revival.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Vs Yezdi Roadster – Specs, Price Comparison

Yezdi Roadster. Image – Biker Prakash ChoudharyBoth Yezdi Roadster and Royal Enfield Meteor closely match each other’s specs and prices
Classic Legends recently brought the Yezdi brand back to life by launching three motorcycles under its anvil- Adventure, Scrambler and Roadster. All three bikes hold distinct identities in the brand’s lineup. With this launch, Classic Legends has thrown in another dice to take on the supremacy of Royal Enfield in the 250-500cc motorcycle segment.
While Adventure locks horns with Royal Enfield Himalayan, Scrambler will rival the upcoming Scram 411 from the Chennai-based bikemaker. On the other hand, Yezdi Roadster appears to take on Meteor 350. This story focuses on how both these motorcycles stack up against each other, on paper of course.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Vs Yezdi Roadster
When it comes to design, both motorcycles feature a low-sling cruiser-like stance with a new-retro design theme. While Yezdi has stayed clear from terming it as a cruiser, Royal Enfield is happy to call Meteor one. That said, neither of the bikes can be called proper cruisers and more roadsters trying to be cruisers. Meteor gives a slightly more cruiser feel due to its wide and tall handlebar as opposed to the low-set handlebar in Roadster.
That said, both motorcycles receive centre-set footpegs which give better ability to maneuver than a traditional cruiser and a comfortable riding posture. Both flaunt a neo-retro styling theme with common elements such as round headlamps, teardrop-shaped fuel tanks and circular turn tail lights, turn indicators and rearview mirrors. Roadster looks slightly bulkier than Meteor thanks to the broader fenders in the former.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 vs Yezdi Roadster
    Powertrain Specs
Meteor is powered by a 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC motor whereas Roadster is propelled by a smaller 334cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC motor. Despite being at a disadvantage for a smaller cubic capacity, Roadster extracts more power and torque from its engine. While the engine in Meteor kicks out 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque, the one in Roadster pumps out 29.7 bhp and 29 Nm of torque.
    Dynamics
As far as dynamics are concerned, both motorcycles are underpinned by a similar dual-cradle frame. Chassis on both bikes are suspended on telescopic forks upfront and twin shock absorbers at rear. In terms of braking, both motorcycles utilise disc brakes at both ends aided by a dual-channel ABS. While Yezdi offers a larger front disc of 320mm, Royal Enfield provides a larger rotor of 270mm at rear.
Meteor offers a more accessible saddle of 765mm as compared to a 790mm seat height of Roadster. However, Roadster is slightly more nimble at 184kg in comparison to 191kg of Meteor which should translate to sharper handling. Meteor also features a larger 15-litre fuel tank as compared to a 12.5-litre tank in Roadster that should provide a longer range to Meteor.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 vs Yezdi Roadster
    Features and Price
In terms of features, Roadster gets all-LED lighting in addition to a semi-digital instrument console. It, however, misses out on Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation which is offered as standard in Meteor. The latter also gets LED DRLs, an LED taillight and a USB charger.
Coming to prices, both motorcycles are very closely priced to each other but Roadster offers a slightly lower starting price of Rs 1.98 lakh. On the other hand, prices for Meteor start at Rs 2.01 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). More

Royal Enfield Himalayan Vs Yezdi Adventure – Specs, Price Comparison

Image – SKRYezdi Adventure matches spec to spec with its closest competitor Royal Enfield Himalayan
Classic Legends recently revived the Yezdi brand by dropping three bombs- Scrambler, Roadster and Adventure. Out of these three, Adventure is garnering a lot of attention for the sheer fact it looks so similar to Royal Enfield Himalayan which also happens to be its nearest rival.
Like Himalayan, Yezdi Adventure is also a purpose-built adventure bike and it shows in its design. Apart from their design, these two bikes are comparable to each other in a lot of ways. This article reflects how the new adventure bike from Classic Legends in the block stack up against an old seasoned rival, at least on paper.
Royal Enfield Himalayan Vs Yezdi Adventure – Specs
Starting with the powertrain, Himalayan obviously receives the larger 411cc SOHC engine which is surprisingly less powerful than the 334cc DOHC unit powering the Yezdi. While the former kicks out a peak power of 24 bhp, the latter pumps 30 bhp of maximum power. However, Himalayan does receive an advantage of slightly more torque which is achieved at a lower rpm than the Yezdi ADV.
While Royal Enfield offers a 5-speed gearbox, Yezdi utilises a 6-speed unit on its adventure bike. This should help the latter cruise on triple-digit speeds for longer durations. That said, Himalayan has a much simpler setup with its air and oil cooler as opposed to a liquid cooler in Adventure.
Royal Enfield Himalayan vs Yezdi Adventure
    Hardware Configuration
When it comes to adventure motorcycling, dynamics of a bike is a very crucial aspect. While Himalayan is underpinned by a Half-duplex split cradle frame, Adventure is based on a dual cradle frame. Both frames are suspended on conventional telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock. Further, both suspension units on both motorcycles offer the exact same travel of 200mm and 180mm at front and rear respectively.
Both bikes offer an identical ground clearance of 220mm, however, the saddle of Himalayan is more accessible at 800mm as compared to 815mm in Adventure. On the flip side, Yezdi is lighter at 188kg as opposed to 199kg of Himalayan. Both bikes ride on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoked wheels shod with dual-purpose tubeless tyres. In the braking department, Adventure offers a slightly larger disc brake at front.
    Features on offer
In terms of features, Yezdi Adventure is the clear winner with a longer list of gizmos. For starters, Yezdi receives a fully digital instrument console as compared to Himalayan’s semi-digital unit. Both bikes receive Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, however, Yezdi gets three ABS modes (Road, Off-road, and Rain). Himalayan instead gets a switchable ABS. Yezdi also receives full-LED lighting which Himalayan misses out on.
Royal Enfield Himalayan vs Yezdi Adventure
    Price Comparison
Coming to prices, boh bikes are precariously closely priced, however, the Royal Enfield is slightly more expensive than its Yezdi counterpart. Prices for Himalayan start at 2.14 lakh whereas Adventure is available at a starting price of Rs 2.10 lakh (ex-showroom). On paper, Yezdi Adventure certainly offers more value for money in comparison to Royal Enfield Himalayan. More

New Yezdi Motorcycles Arrive At Dealership – First Look Walkaround

Yezdi AdventureYezdi Roadster, Scrambler and Adventure prices start at Rs 1.98 lakh, Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 2.10 lakh, respectively
To provide more options to enthusiasts and improve competencies vis-a-vis primary rival Royal Enfield, Classic Legends has launched three Yezdi motorcycles in India. These will be sold via Jawa Yezdi showrooms alongside Jawa motorcycles. Bookings and test rides are now open for all three Yezdi motorcycles.
    Yezdi motorcycles styling and features
All three Yezdi bikes have neo-retro profile. Some common features include round headlamp, tear-drop shaped fuel tank, spoke wheels and minimalistic design. There are quite a few unique elements as well. For example, Yezdi Roadster and Scrambler have round rear-view mirrors whereas Adventure gets trendier units.
Adventure also gets a much larger windscreen, as compared to other Yezdi bikes. Scrambler and Adventure get raised front fender, which highlights their superior off-roading capabilities. All three bikes have powerful LED headlamps and tail lamps. Adventure and Scrambler are equipped with handlebar-mounted USB & Type C charging points.
Another difference can be seen in instrument console with Scrambler and Roadster getting round pods. In comparison, Adventure has a rectangular instrument console. It comes in a shock-proof casing and can be tilt-adjusted to suit both sitting and standing ride positions. Take a look at the detailed walkaround review of Yezdi motorcycles in the video below by Ujjwal Saxena.
    [embedded content]
All three Yezdi bikes offer a comfortable riding stance. Adventure has split seat design in comparison to single seat units on Roadster and Scrambler. The one on Scrambler comes in quilted pattern, which enhances its overall look and feel.
Yezdi Adventure packs in some additional features such as Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Users can pair their smartphones with the instrument console via Yezdi mobile app. They can search and fix destinations and get turn-by-turn navigation on the instrument console. The console provides notifications for calls and messages and displays signal and battery percentage. With the Yezdi app, users can access data and analytics about the ride.
    Yezdi motorcycles engine and specs
All three Yezdi motorcycles get the same 334cc engine that is currently used with Jawa Perak. However, power and torque output are slightly different. On Yezdi Roadster, the engine has been tweaked to deliver 29.7 ps of max power at 7,300 rpm and 29 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox.
On Scrambler, the numbers are 29.1 ps at 8,000 rpm and 28.2 Nm at 6,750 Nm. Yezdi Adventure generates 30.2 ps at 8,000 rpm and 29.9 Nm at 6,500 rpm. While Roadster and Scrambler get dual exhaust, Adventure has single side exhaust. Braking system is common, 320 mm disc at front and 240 mm disc at rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard across all three Yezdi bikes.
All three Yezdi bikes have double cradle chassis, integrated with telescopic front forks. Roadster and Scrambler have gas-canister based dual shock absorber at rear whereas Adventure gets monoshock with coil spring and linkage mechanism. While 17-inch rear wheels are common across all three bikes, front wheels are 18-inch for Roadster, 19-inch for Scrambler and 21-inch for Adventure. Choice of rubber is also different. More

The instrument cluster is powered with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation as standard fitments. Yezdi Adventure Specs
    Mechanical Specs
Coming to specifics, Adventure is based on the same dual-cradle chassis as its other two siblings and Jawa cousins. However, adjustments have been made to suit its adventure touring characteristics. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at rear. The front and rear units offer travel of 200mm and 180mm respectively.
In addition, Adventure stands tall with an impressive 220mm ground clearance. Braking duties are carried out by disc brakes at both ends with callipers from ByBre. The braking is aided by dual-channel ABS sourced from Continental. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels which are wrapped around with dual-purpose tyres.
    Yezdi Adventure Prices
Powering Yezdi Adventure is the same 334cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which propels Jawa Perak. However, the engine has been tweaked to suit its adventure characteristics and offers more bottom-end grunt. In Adventure, this motor kicks out 30.2 PS of power at 8000rpm and a peak torque of 29.9 Nm at 6500rpm. This unit is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. More
