The bikes are scheduled to debut in India on December 15. Deliveries will commence soon after.Yamaha R3, MT-03 India launchThe multi-cylinder 300cc to 500cc motorcycle segment has been registering strong growth in recent years. With significant future potential, it’s natural for Yamaha to throw its hat into the ring. While MT-03 will be an entirely new product for India, R3 will be a relaunch. As may be recalled, fully faired Yamaha YZF-R3 was available in India in BS4 era. The Indian motorcycle market has evolved since then, in a way that presents significant opportunities for R3 and MT-03.To ensure a premium customer experience, Yamaha R3 and MT-03 will be sold exclusively via select Blue Square dealerships as disclosed before. Deliveries will commence in the same month, following the launch on December 15. Deliveries will be made in more than 100 cities across the country.Yamaha R3, MT-03 specs, performanceBoth R3 and MT-03 share the same 321 cc, liquid cooled, parallel twin-cylinder, DOHC engine. It generates 42 PS of max power and 29.5 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. Performance is further improved, as Yamaha R3 and MT-03 utilize a lightweight chassis.Yamaha R3 expected coloursBoth bikes have a diamond frame and will be getting USD forks at front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Braking setup will have disc brakes at both ends, with dual-channel ABS as standard. R3 and MT-03 will have a multi-function digital instrument console. Users can access a range of information such as fuel capacity, gear position, clock, oil change indicator, water temp gauge, real-time and average fuel economy and trip meter.The screen has a simple UI that ensures easy readability and comprehension. The console has Bluetooth connectivity, which can be used to access more features and functions via Yamaha’s smartphone app. No navigation, though.CBU route means premium pricingIn the initial phase, Yamaha will be importing R3 and MT-03 as CBUs. Due to import duty, these bikes won’t have the cost advantage that Yamaha’s mainstream bikes have. It is possible that the CKD route can be considered at a later date based on demand. Pricing for R3 and MT-03 could be more than the respective offerings from KTM and Royal Enfield 650s.2023 Yamaha R3 New ColourPrimary rival for R3 is the upcoming locally manufactured Aprilia RS 457 and KTM RC 390 to some extent. While MT-03 doesn’t have direct comparable rivals, but will take on new KTM 390 Duke. This marks a significant increase from the 8,143 units sold in September 2022, translating to a remarkable 95.31% growth. RayZR secured a 24.78% market share in September 2023.Yamaha India Sales and Exports Sep 2023 vs Sep 2022 – YoY performanceYamaha’s FZ motorcycle secured the second position with 14,872 units sold. Although this represented a decrease from the 20,453 units sold in September 2022, it is important to note that the model still commanded a substantial 23.17% market share. Fascino scooter followed closely behind, with 12,014 units sold in September 2023, marking a growth of 16.10% compared to the previous year. It secured an 18.72% market share.R15 garnered 11,131 unit sales, exhibiting a growth of 16.55% year-on-year. It accounted for 17.34% of the market share. MT15 saw 8,691 units sold, with a growth rate of 7.27% compared to September 2022. It maintained a 13.54% market share. Aerox scooter made an impressive debut, with 1,570 units sold in its first month on the market. FZ25 recorded no sales in September 2023, down from 343 units in the same month last year.Yamaha India Sales and Exports Sep 2023 vs Aug 2023 – MoM performanceYamaha India Sep 2023 Export PerformanceWhile Yamaha’s domestic sales witnessed substantial growth, the export segment painted a different picture. The company reported a total of 19,026 units exported in September 2023, compared to 25,185 units in September 2022, representing a decline of 24.46%.FZ motorcycle was the top export model, with 9,550 units shipped in September 2023. Although this figure was lower than the 10,013 units exported in the same month last year, the FZ maintained a dominant 50.19% market share in exports. RayZR scooter, which performed exceptionally well in the domestic market, experienced a 6.48% decline in exports, with 3,132 units shipped.Saluto witnessed a significant boost in exports, with 2,276 units sold, compared to just 600 units in September 2022. This marked a substantial growth rate of 279.33% year-on-year. Yamaha exported 2,163 units of the Saluto RX. MT15 showed remarkable export growth, with 1,105 units shipped, reflecting a substantial increase of 376.29% year-on-year.R15 faced a sharp decline in exports, with only 276 units sold, down by 74.30% from the previous year. Yamaha has priced it at Rs. 1,28,900 (ex-sh) and it now becomes the most affordable colours of FZ Fi V4 lineup.Yamaha FZ V4 Gets Two New ColoursAhead of festive season, Yamaha is bringing newness with its FZ V4 lineup by launching Dark Matte Blue and Matte Black. These are the only two colour options with FZ-S Fi Ver 4.0 and they are Dark Matte Blue and Matte Black. Both of these colours are priced at Rs. 1,28,900 (ex-sh).Matte Black shade gets an all-black finish along with a subtle red pinstripe on both alloy wheels. Except for the colours, actual motorcycle is completely similar to what it has been. It is a no-nonsense premium commuter motorcycle.It packs a 149cc single-cylinder 2V SOHC engine that is capable of outputting 12.4 PS of peak power at 7,250 RPM and 13.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 RPM, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha is offering a traction control system in the mix as well. This is an air-cooled engine that boasts a simplistic setup and good fuel efficiency.Yamaha FZ-S Fi Ver 4.0 Matte BlackComponentry includes RSU telescopic front forks, mono-shock rear suspension, alloy wheels, single-disc setup at both ends, and single-channel ABS among others. The fully digital LCD display has Bluetooth connectivity, but not turn-by-turn navigation. We would like it if Yamaha brings the same updates it brought to this motorcycle in Brazil (2023 Fazer FZ-15). More
