New TVS iQubeTVS iQube e-scooter has seen sales surpass the 1.5 lakh unit mark since its debut in January 2020TVS Motor Company sales improved both on a YoY and MoM basis in July 2023. YoY growth was reported both across 2 wheeler and 3 wheeler segments in domestic markets, though exports suffered de-growth. Total 2W and 3W sales (domestic + exports) improved by 3.60 percent to 3,25,977 units in July 2023, up from 3,14,639 units sold in July 2022 relating to a 11,338 unit volume growth. On a MoM basis, sales grew by 3.20 percent from 3,16,411 units sold in June 2023.TVS 2W Sales and Exports July 2023In domestic markets, 2W sales growth was reported across motorcycles, scooters, and moped, to a total of 2,35,230 units in July 2023, up 16.48 percent from 2,10,942. 2W exports however dipped 21.12 percent YoY to 77,077 units in July 2023 from 97,716 units sold in July 2022.TVS Motor Sales July 2023 vs July 2022 – YoY performanceMoM domestic sales remained more or less flat with a 0.26 percent de-growth from 2,35,833 units sold in June 2023. MoM exports increased by 12.41 percent from 68,568 units shipped in June 2023. The 2W segment currently commands a 75.32 percent share.Motorcycles saw a 2.40 percent YoY and 3.87 percent MoM growth in sales in July 2023 to 1,53,942 units. There were 1,50,340 units sold in July 2022 and 1,48,208 units sold in June 2023 respectively. Scooter sales also improved 4.67 percent YoY and 0.48 percent MoM to 1,21,941 units while sales of the iQube electric scooter surged by 111.07 percent on a YoY basis to 13,306 units from 6,304 units sold in July 2022. MoM sales saw a 7.99 percent de-growth from 34,829 units sold in June 2023.TVS Motor Sales July 2023 vs June 2023 – MoM performanceMoped sales also improved 10.99 percent YoY and 4.58 percent MoM to 36,424 units. This took 2W total sales (domestic + exports) to 3,12,307 units, up 4.22 percent YoY from 2,99,658 units sold in July 2022. MoM sales improved by 2.60 percent from 3,04,401 units sold in June 2023.TVS Motor 3W Sales and Exports July 2023Where three wheeler sales were concerned, TVS Motor has reported a YoY de-growth in total (domestic + export) sales. Sales dipped 8.75 percent YoY to 13,670 units in July 2023 from 14,981 units sold in July 2022. MoM sales improved by 13.82 percent from 12,010 units sold in June 2023.3W domestic sales were higher by 4130.68 percent YoY to 1,534 units in July 2023 from 665 units sold in July 2022 while MoM sales saw a 6.97 percent growth over 1,434 units sold in June 2023.  Exports on the other hand fell YoY by 15.23 percent to 12,136 units in the past month from 14,316 units shipped in July 2022. MoM exports improved by 14.75 percent from 10,576 units shipped in June 2023.Total 2W+3W sales saw a 16.86 percent growth on a YoY basis to 2,36,764 units in July 2023 from 2,02,607 units sold in July 2022 while MoM sales fell marginally by 0.21 percent from 2,37,267 units sold in June 2023. Exports on the other hand has suffered a 20.37 percent de-growth YoY to 89,213 units in July 2023 from 1,12,032 units shipped in July 2022 while MoM exports improved by 12.72 percent over 79,144 units shipped in June 2023. Honda, Bajaj, Jawa, and Yezdi brands have tried their luck at rivaling Royal Enfield but results are not very prominent. Now, Royal Enfield will face rivalry from two international legacy brands in the form of Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400.Speed 400 looks the most promising at the price of Rs. 2.33 lakh (ex-sh) to make a dent in Royal Enfield’s armour. Is Norton the next international legacy brand in the race to rival Royal Enfield? This seems to be possible as TVS-owned Norton Motorcycles has trademarked Combat name in India.TVS trademarks Norton Combat name in IndiaTVS Norton Combat trademarked in IndiaNorton is a British brand with a rich 125 years of motorcycling legacy to look back upon. TVS Motor Company currently is the parent company to this Solihull, UK-based motorcycle brand. As of now, Norton currently has two powertrains and it sells three motorcycles with these powertrains.Commando 961 is a cafe-racer-style motorcycle with a 961cc parallel-twin with an old-school push rod configuration and oil-cooling. V4CR and V4SV are much more modern in their construction and both feature a 74-degree 1200cc V4 engine with a DOHC configuration and gets liquid-cooling too.V4CR is a street fighter and V4SV gets full fairing. If Norton Combat is a Royal Enfield rival from TVS for both Indian and global markets, it will very well feature a single-cylinder engine. SOHC or DOHC layout with 4 valves per cylinder along with liquid-cooling and 6-speed gearbox is likely too. Displacement could be anywhere between 300cc to 500cc.What to expect?Design will probably take a lot of inspiration from Commando 961. There could be variations in it to carve out a cruiser and a cafe racer body style as well. Commando 961 is a gorgeous motorcycle that captivates retro styling and radiates an old-school aura.If TVS is positioning Norton Combat to rival Royal Enfield, these attributes will come in handy. TVS filed the Norton Combat trademark way back in 2020. But it seems to be “Accepted & Advertised” recently as the journal date reads 03/07/2023.Currently, TVS has Ronin on offer in India which seems to be primarily targeting Hunter 350. Maybe TVS will re-utilise Ronin’s 225.9cc engine that generates 20.1 bhp of power and 19.9 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This is possible too. More

Not only is EV making a lot of noise in mainstream passenger vehicle space, but in commercial 2W space too. There are more new entrants in commercial 2W EV space now, more than ever.Now, TVS wants a piece of this pie as well. TVS already makes XL 100 which is an ICE commercial workhorse. But TVS also makes iQube range of electric scooters. When both these ideologies fuse together, we get TVS XL Electric, which the company has patented in India.TVS XL Electric Design Patent LeaksTVS XL Electric Patented In IndiaAs of now, TVS only has a iQube lineup in its electric portfolio. There is a new 2W EV that the company is set to launch or unveil in August. This is likely to be a more high-end electric scooter, most likely something based on the Creon design concept.Sticking with XL Electric, it bears semblance with XL 100 ICE moped. We can’t call this a moped, though. Because there are no pedals on this. Construction is very minimal and follows the footsteps of XL 100. There is a central spine tubular chassis. This patent drawing doesn’t show body panels.With XL 100, the front apron area was its fuel tank. That is not necessary anymore. So, this area is empty. Where a petrol engine was, with XL 100, is now where batteries are. TVS could have gone with a hub motor, but has chosen to go with a mid-mounted setup. What looks like a chain drive, sends power to the rear wheel.Maybe TVS went with a mid-mounted motor because of pedals in the future? Motor position is perfect for pedal integration too. We say this because hub motors are generally less sophisticated and less expensive and are the preferred choice in economic and budget builds.What to expect?There are split seats. Rear seat should have a removable function to accommodate luggage. Headlights look identical to XL 100. There are RSU telescopic front forks and dual-shock absorbers in the back. Drum brakes do duties here. Battery and motor should eke out around 60 km of range on a single charge.TVS XL Electric could be an ideal vehicle for last-mile delivery businesses with both B2B and B2C models. That said, this design patent has a saree guard too. This could indicate that TVS is eying private buyers as well. More details will follow when TVS unveils it. While the company has done well in domestic markets, posting a YoY growth of 22.14 percent, its exports have dipped 32.03 percent with most models in the company lineup receiving less attention from overseas buyers. Total sales (domestic + exports) of TVS Motor in June 2023 stood at 3,02,979 units, up from 2,91,881 units sold in June 2022. It was a MoM de-growth from a total of 3,17,249 units sold in May 2023.In domestic markets, sales of TVS Motor stood at 2,35,833 units in June 2023. This was a 22.14 percent YoY growth from 1,93,090 units sold in June 2022. It is related to a 42,743 unit volume growth. MoM sales however, dipped from 2,52,690 units sold in May 2023.TVS Sales Breakup June 2023TVS Domestic Sales June 2023 – BreakupIt was TVS Jupiter that once again topped domestic sales charts. Sales improved 2.23 percent to 64,252 units in June 2023 from 62,851 units sold in June 2022. The Jupiter commands a 27.24 percent share in the company lineup and was also the 2nd best-selling scooter in the country after the Honda Activa. The XL moped saw sales dip 7.94 percent YoY to 34,499 units in the past month, down from 37,474 units sold in June 2022. This was a 2,975 unit volume de-growth with a 14.63 percent share.TVS Raider (34,309 units), Apache (28,127 units) and Ntorq (28,127 units) each posted substantial YoY growth. Of the TVS iQube, the company’s only electric offering, sales stood at 14,462 units in June 2023 up 209.88 percent from 4,667 units sold in June 2023. However, in view of price adjustments on account of FAME II subsidies, there was a MoM de-growth in iQube sales as against 17,913 units sold in May 2023.TVS Sales Breakup June 2023Sales of TVS Sport also improved by 26.52 percent YoY to 11,669 while sales of the Radeon dipped 1.52 percent to 9,759 units in June 2023 from 9,910 units sold in June 2022. Domestic sales list also had Zest (5,889 units), Star City (3,071 units), Pep+ (1,379 units) and RR310 (340 units) out of which it YoY growth for Zest and RR310 while sales of Star City and Pep+ ended in the red.TVS Exports Breakup June 2023TVS Exports June 2023Exports fell by 32.03 percent YoY to 67,146 units in June 2023 down 31,645 units when compared to 98,791 units shipped in June 2022. MoM exports grew from 64,559 units shipped in May 2023. It was the Star City 125 that commanded the export list with 29,384 units sold last month, down 21.29 percent from 37,331 units sold in June 2022. This was a 7,947 units volume de-growth with a 43.76 percent share in the company lineup.Exports also fell for the Star City by 26.99 percent to 17,082 units as compared to 23,397 units shipped in June 2022. It was also a YoY de-growth from the TVS Apache by 63.64 percent down to 5,034 units from 13,843 units shipped in June 2022. TVS Raider exports also fell 37.70 percent YoY to 4,434 units in June 2023 from 7,117 units sold in June 2022.Jupiter scooter exports increased substantially by 1983.77 percent from just 154 units sold in June 2022. Thereafter, it was YoY degrowth for the Ntorq (3,102 units), TVS Sport (2,535 units) and Wego (994 units) while Victor and XL exports improved to 800 units and 330 units respectively. Lower down the list, it was the TVS Radeon that witnessed a 28.57 percent YoY de-growth to 200 units from 280 units shipped in June 2022. However, RR310 exports increased 23.53 percent in the past month to 42 units from 34 units exported in the same month last year. More

With sales plunging dramatically, a less expensive model with the right specs should prove beneficial.TVS iQube Base Model Specs: Cloak and Dagger, Stay Intrigued!As of now, specs aren’t available. TVS currently sells two variants of its popular iQube scooter. The base Standard iQube variant and mid-spec iQube S variant. The top-spec iQube ST is still not on sale despite being announced alongside the other two. Only the top-spec iQube ST has a 4.56 kWh battery. Both variants currently available on sale feature a 3.04 kWh battery.So, if TVS is carving out a less expensive model, it will boast a battery smaller than 3 kWh. The TFT screen is non-touch with base iQube Standard. The soon likely to be base model might feature an LCD unit like on its ICE range of scooters. We hope range is not less than around 80 km in real-world use.Pricing is likely to be around Rs. 1.2 lakh (ex-sh).
