    Bajaj-Triumph Sub Rs 2 Lakh Motorcycle Launch Delayed To 2023

    The Covid-19 pandemic has played spoilsport to another new automotive project in India

    The Bajaj-Triumph partnership is one of the most talked-about joint ventures in the Indian automotive industry in recent past. Both companies entered into a long-term partnership in 2017 which will focus on a non-equity tie-up to develop mid-capacity motorcycles ranging from 200cc to 750cc.
    However, the first product out of this joint venture might face a delay due to the ongoing crisis. In an interaction with ET Auto, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, has revealed that the upcoming bike from Bajaj-Triumph partnership could be delayed by several months because of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
    Delayed to 2023
    Bajaj said that due to COVID-19-related disruptions, launch of the first Bajaj-Triumph bike may get deferred to 2023. It was earlier reported that this JV planned to bring out its first model sometime in 2022. Both bikemakers have remained reticent about the models to be developed under this JV. However, some reports indicate that its lineup will include Triumph Tiger, a baby Daytona 250 and a mini Bonneville.
    Although one thing is clear that most of these motorcycles under this tie-up will be manufactured at Bajaj’s facility in Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra with localisation up to 99 percent as in the case with Bajaj-KTM partnership.

    Additionally, Bajaj will also be responsible for marketing and sales of Triumph motorcycles in India manufactured by it as well as oversee the exports to neighbouring countries in the subcontinent, Asia, Africa and other markets.
    Expected Details of the first model
    All these motorcycles under this JV are likely to wear the nameplate of Triumph. The first model out of this is likely to be built on a 200cc platform which will be powered by the same 200cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which also powers Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and KTM Duke 200. This bike is expected to be based on the entry-level Triumph Bonneville which sports a retro-classic design.
    It might feature a round headlamp, a single-piece flat seat, alloy wheels, a tear drop shaped fuel tank and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Anchorage duties might be handled by disc brakes on both ends assisted by a dual-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard. This motorcycle is likely to be priced below Rs 2.0 lakh (ex-showroom) and will rival models from Royal Enfield and Jawa.
    In recent times, we have witnessed many foreign high-end bikemakers partner with Indian manufacturers to offer affordable premium motorcycles for Indian consumers.     Triumph Motorcycle enters the premium middle weight roadster segment with the new Trident 660. This naked motorcycle is set to launch in India in early 2021 and will be brought in as via the CKD route.
    The Triumph Trident 660 has been opened for pre-bookings at company dealerships at Rs.50,000, form today. This booking amount is 100 percent refundable till the price is announced. Trident 660 will enter the company lineup in India which currently comprises the Street Triple RS and the Street Triple R. It has been launched in the UK at GBP 7,195 relating to around Rs.7.11 lakhs.
    Triumph Motorcycle has also confirmed a special finance scheme for buyers of the new Trident 660 at an EMI of Rs.9,999. However, this offer will be for a limited period only. The Triumph Trident 660 is slated to be priced below the Triumph Street twin and will serve as an entry price point into the Triumph brand.
    Triumph Trident 660 Features
    Set to attract the attention of a younger segment of buyers in the country, the Triumph Trident 660 commands a sporty and muscular stance. It receives four colour schemes, a contemporary design, LED head lamps and a curved tank. The LED tail lamps are integrated into the tail along with rear turn indicators. It also gets a round console with a fully digital unit showing information such as speed, revs, fuel level and gear selection.

    The bottom half is a TFT coloured panel offering the rider electronic aids and smartphone connectivity. Tapered handlebars and teardrop shaped mirrors are also a part of its features. The new Trident has traction control and two riding modes of Rain and Road. Traction control can be switched off while it also receives dual channel ABS.
    Triumph Trident 660 Engine Specs
    The Triumph Trident 660 will be powered by a 660cc, inline, 3 cylinder, liquid cooled engine making 79.8 hp power at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm torque at 6,250 rpm. The new roadster will sport a 6 speed gearbox that would be accompanied by a bi-directional quickshifter as an option.
    The bike will sport Showa suspension setup and braking via twin piston Nissin calipers with twin 310 mm disc in the front while it will ride on 17 inch alloy wheels fitted with Michelin (Road 5) high grip tyres. The motorcycle will have kerb weight of 189 kgs and this will ensure good power to weight and torque to weight ratios.
    The company has stated that the motorcycle will come in with 16,000 km service interval and a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. The new Trident will compete with the likes of the Kawasaki Z650 in India. More

    Less than a year from introducing the new generation Tiger 900, Triumph has withdrawn the entry level variant of the adventure tourer and replaced it with a reconfigured model in a bid to make the product family more manageable and accessible. Called the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, the new variant aims to lure first time adventure buyers to the iconic nameplate.

    Triumph says that there is a sizable number of prospective customers, mostly first time big bike buyers, who seek an affordable motorcycle which is not overloaded by the latest electronic gadgetry and offers a non-aggressive yet strong performance. The end result is an entry level adventure tourer which offers less power and is more focused on tarmac touring compared to the Tiger 900 variants.

    Visually, the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport differentiates itself from the 900 family by means of dual-tone color themes (Graphite and Diablo Red, and Graphite and Caspian Blue). With 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels shod with latest Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres, the Tiger 850 Sport is capable of handling bad roads and moderate trails with ease.

    The motorcycle offers 2 riding modes – road and rain. The Euro 5 compliant motor can also be specified in A2 avatar in Europe with restricted power output for new riders.
    Despite being a cost-sensitive base model, the Tiger 850 Sport does not skimp on hardware. The adventure tourer sports 45 mm Marzocchi inverted telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock with pre-load adjustment. Braking is taken care of by a pair of 320 mm front discs stopped by monoblock 4-piston Brembo Stylema calipers and a 255 mm single rear disc with Brembo single-piston sliding caliper.

    While the motorcycle offers two-channel ABS and switchable traction control as standard, they are not supported by IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) like higher 900 variants, and hence are not cornering-sensitive. Other noteworthy features include a 5-inch high-contrast TFT instrument display, full LED lighting and 12v power socket. The bike will be offered with a range of 60 accessories.
    Price and launch
    At 9,300 pounds (on-the-road, UK), the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is 200 pounds cheaper than the now discontinued entry level Triumph Tiger 900 despite offering more features like full LED headlights, Anakee tyres and Brembo Stylema front brakes. Compared to the Tiger 900 GT, the cost savings are even higher.

    The Triumph Trident will be powered by a 660cc unit offering 81 hp power and 64 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The Triumph Trident will rival the Kawasaki Z650 and Honda CB650 in India.
    Globally, the company is also set to introduce a new Tiger variant. Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will be unveiled on November 17, 2020, is expected to go on sale early 2021 and has already been teased on the company website. It will be an all-new adventure-touring motorcycle and will be seen with twin LED headlamps with LED DRLs, adjustable windscreen, tall fuel tank, step up seats and wire spoke rims.
    The new Tiger 850 will draw a strong resemblance to the Tiger 900 which is currently offered in four variants. Tiger 850 will be an entry level model and will take on the likes of BMW F900XR and Yamaha Tracer 900.     Triumph Motorcycles is busy introducing new products amidst the full blown pandemic crisis that has been greatly affecting the automotive industry. The British sportsbike marque just unveiled its most affordable three-cylinder motorcycle, the Trident, last month, and is already gearing up to introduce a new Tiger variant.

    Triumph India has released a teaser image of a new Tiger variant without furnishing any details. The image shows a red finished adventure tourer with the Tiger’s instantly recognizable LED light signature. International media expects the new variant to be called as the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport.
    The new Tiger 900 is currently available in four variants with a strong focus on all-terrain riding. The Tiger Sport 850 is expected to serve as a new entry level model with heightened focus on tarmac touring.
    However, new motorcycle does appear to be sporting 19-inch front wheel dual-purpose tyre. We expect the Tiger 850 Sport to feature some significant cost cutting measures to arrive at a competitive price point.

    Specifications
    With the Euro 5 emission norms forcing OEMs to go for slightly higher displacement, it is unlikely that the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will feature an engine that is smaller than the 900 variants. The in-line three-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor displaces 888 cc and produces 95 hp and 87 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 6-speed unit. We expect the new variant to carry forward this configuration despite the ‘850’ in the nomenclature.
    If the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is road focuses, then we expect the inverted telescopic front fork and rear monoshock to feature tweaked stiffness and damping coefficients. Triumph may likely delete some electronic features such as Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and related systems to make the 850 Sport more accessible than its 900 siblings.
    For reference, the fully loaded Triumph Tiger 900 variants are equipped with a 7-inch colour TFT instrument display, IMU-powered cornering ABS, cornering traction control, Triumph Shift Assist (bi-directional quick shifter), 6 riding modes, cruise control, heated grips and seats, mobile charger, tire pressure monitoring system, and so on.
    Rivals
    The Triumph Tiger 850 will lock horns with the likes of BMW F900XR and Yamaha Tracer 900. Pricing is expected to be competitive. The road-focused tourer will make its online debut on November 17th and is expected to be ready for the market sometime in first half of 2021.     Triumph Motorcycles has entered the volume-rich affordable middle-weight naked motorcycle territory with its neo-classic Trident. The latest product from the British marque pays tribute to the original Trident of 1968 which kick started the three-cylinder saga. Positioned below the Street Triple, the roadster is not the most affordable member of Triumph’s three-cylinder family.

    The 2021 Triumph Trident adopts a minimal design characterized by a classic fuel tank with knee pads, a stubby cantilevered tailpiece, circular LED headlamp and compact overall dimensions. The British middle-weight sportbike brings to table a classic flavor compared to its flashy Japanese rivals such as the Kawasaki Z650, Yamaha MT-O7 and Honda CB650R.

    Triumph Trident is powered by a 660 cc, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine which incorporates 67 new components. Triumph says that the three-cylinder configuration combines the strong low-end torque of two-cylinder units and a spirited top-end of four-cylinder units.

    The engine produces 81 hp at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm of torque (90% of which is available across most of the rev range) at 6,250 rpm. The motor is also available in a 47 hp / 59 Nm version for the European A2 license category and in a 54 hp / 59 Nm avatar for the Australian LAMS category. A slip and assist clutch pairs the motor with a 6-speed transmission.
    Chassis
    The Triumph Trident is underpinned by a steel tubular frame which is equipped with an aluminium swing-arm, Showa inverted front forks, Showa rear monoshock with preload adjust and 17-inch alloy wheels. Enhancing the handling package are is the factory fitted set of Michelin Road 5 tyres that measure 120/70-R17 (front) and 180/55-R17 (rear).

    Braking is taken care of by a pair of 310 mm front discs with Nissin two-piston sliding calipers and a disc at the rear with Nissin single-piston caliper. Of course, a dual-channel ABS is a standard fitment.
    Equipment
    The Triumph Trident is positioned as a premium offering in its segment. In addition to top-shelf suspension and braking hardware, the motorcycle comes equipped with a colour TFT screen along with a white-on-black LCD display, full LED lighting (headlamp, tail lamp and blinkers), adjustable traction control, ride-by-wire, road and rain riding modes, and so on.

    Launch and colours
    The most affordable triple-cylinder Triumph motorcycle will hit the dealerships in the UK in early 2021 before reaching our market via CKD route from Thailand. It will be available in four colour themes namely Silver Ice and Diablo Red, Matt Jet Black and Matt Silver Ice, Crystal White and Sapphire Black.

    Triumph Trident three-cylinder roadster with a neo-classic appeal was first teased in the form of a design prototype in August 2020. Last month, the British motorcycle marque went on to reveal the production-spec prototype swathed in camouflage.

    Our design specialist Pratyush Rout has envisioned the classic paint work that the Triumph Trident may have to give you a complete picture before the motorcycle makes its debut on 30th of October. As you can see, plastic knee padding and matte finish would go very well with the motorcycle’s design.

    The fuel tank forms the major part of bodywork as the front fender, tailpiece and side panels adopt a minimalist approach. With a circular LED headlamp and a single-pod digital dashboard, the Triumph Trident looks simple yet elegant.
    Specifications
    Triumph Motorcycles did not reveal much about its upcoming motorcycle except that it will be powered by a three-cylinder engine, and it will be the most affordable product in the company’s Triple family. So, it is reasonable to assume that it will be cheaper than the entry-level Street Triple.

    The tubular chassis appears to be simpler than the new Street Triple’s aluminium frame. The upside-down front telescopic fork and rear monoshock seem to be borrowed by the Street Triple S but the twin front discs with Nissin twin-piston calipers and rear disc with Nissin single-piston caliper are cost effective alternatives. The swing arm too seems to be simpler than the unit seen on the Street Triple range.
    Coming to the engine, it is being reported that the Triumph Trident will not be employing the latest Street Triple range’s 765 cc motor. The shape of the crankcase is identical to that of the now-defunct 675 cc unit of the previous Street Triple but some reports suggest that the Trident’s mill will displace around 660 cc. We will know for sure in a under a week.
    The power output is not likely to exceed 94 hp (limited by European A2 regulations) so that the engine can be restricted to 47 hp to cater to the European A2 license holders. Triumph has hinted that the engine will offer ample torque, meaning the motorcycle will have a sedate character.
    Features
    The prototypes reveal that the Triumph Trident will be equipped with LED headlamps and a fully digital dashboard. One can expect the roadster to be equipped with traction control although an IMU-supported system is unlikely. We also expect the motorcycle to get riding modes.     Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the Rocket 3 GT at a price of Rs 18.4 lakh, ex-sh. The motorcycle was launched last year at various international markets. The Rocket 3 and 3 GT holds the unique distinction of being the largest displacement production motorcycle in the world
    Performance

    The Rocket 3 GT is powered by a humongous 2500cc which produces a power of 165 horses at 6000rpm and a peak torque of massive 221 Nm at 4000rpm. When compared to the previous generation Rocket 3 GT, this new engine features an altered lubrication system, crankcase and balance shafts. This engine is coupled with a 6-speed transmission.
    Triumph offers two variants of this model, R and GT. The R is a roadster variant with a more aggressive riding stance with a sportier handlebar whereas the GT is a more of a cruiser with a touring style handlebar. It also gets a backrest for the pillion seats which enhance the touring look.

    The muscular sculpted fuel tank enhances the sporty feel of the bike. It gets its signature dual-LED headlamp unit with integrated DRLs and maker’s logo inside. The Rocket 3 GT is offered in two colours- Phantom Black and Storm Gray with silver ice.
    Dynamics
    In terms of dynamics, it gets a lightweight aluminium cradle which reduces its weight by 40kg. Suspension duties are carried out by a 47mm inverted fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear which are fully adjustable. Anchoring duties are taken care of by 320mm disc brakes assisted by Brembo callipers. It gets a 17-inch wheel with 150/80 profile tyre at front and a 16-inch wheel with 240/50 profile tyre at rear.
