Honda India Dedicated Electric Motorcycle Plant To Start Production From 2028

Honda Electric Motorcycle Concept – EV FunWhile Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) has been late to the electric scooter party, the company aims to be at the forefront where electric motorcycles are concerned. It is now revealed that Honda will start production of electric motorcycles in 2028, from a dedicated manufacturing plant in India.
Honda Electric Motorcycle Plant In India
In line with the Make In India initiative, HMSI has been on the verge of converting its Indian manufacturing facilities into a global export hub. Today, HMSI has emerged as the country’s second largest 2W manufacturer and is closing the gap rapidly with market leader, Hero MotoCorp.
With a dedicated electric motorcycle manufacturing facility in India, HMSI aims to capture a major market share in the world’s largest 2W market. Alongside this dedicated electric motorcycle manufacturing facility, HMSI has also laid plans to enhance their battery charging network in the country to reduce range anxiety for buyers.
HMSI has made decent strides to reduce TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for buyers, which will strike as a major challenge associated with introduction of electric motorcycles. Honda mentioned that they’re striving to launch electric motorcycles at a price range where TOC of three years of ownership will be equal to that of its ICE counterparts.
Honda Electric Motorcycle Concept – EV Fun
As of now, Honda has not confirmed the exact models and model names of its upcoming electric motorcycles to be manufactured in India. The goal is to offer a wide variety of models with a common module, thus reducing development costs.
Also, Honda is working with multiple battery manufacturers in India to design and develop batteries of the right specification and application. Ensuring stable procurements of parts is another challenge that OEMs in India face. With local suppliers, Honda can achieve high levels of localisation, taking the input costs down and gaining higher profits.
    Honda Activa e and QC1
Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India Ltd just launched their maiden electric scooters in the form of Activa e and QC1. While QC1 is more budget-oriented, Activa e is the current flagship and is the only one to get swappable battery technology. QC1, on the other hand, has to make do with a fixed battery pack, but gets usable storage, which Activa e lacks completely.
Honda Electric Motorcycle Concept – EV Fun
With QC1 and Activa e, Honda is getting their foot into the EV game in India. Price starts from Rs 90K (Ex-sh) for QC1 and Rs 1.17 lakh (Ex-sh) for Activa e. Maximum range with these scooters is 102 km on a single charge (Activa e) with a max top speed of 80 km/h. Exact timeline for the Honda electric motorcycle plant has not been revealed yet. More

Pulsar N160 single seat variant has standard 37 mm telescopic forks at the front and a Nitrox monoshock suspension at the rear. The bike has 300 mm and 230 mm disc brakes at front and rear, respectively. 2025 Honda CB300R Patented? Or Is This A New RE Hunter 350 Rival?

2025 Honda CB300R PatentedHonda has patented a new motorcycle in India that takes a neo-retro Roadster approach. Going by Honda’s past patenting exercises, one would think that this is just a global vehicle and that the company is protecting its IP here in India. However, this looks like an affordable motorcycle that the company might launch in India.
    2025 Honda CB300R Patented?
One look at this patent design, anyone would dismiss it as a CB300R with a slightly updated design to make it more neo-retro than it already is. This could be true as well. However, there seems to be more about this patent design than what meets the eye. On closer inspection, one can see that it has an air-cooled engine.
For context, Honda CB300R has a liquid-cooled engine, which doesn’t have fins on the engine block for air-cooling. That said, liquid-cooled engines on Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles get these fins just for aesthetic purposes, which is great attention to detail. We can expect Honda to do something similar with 2025 CB300R.
    2025 Honda CB300R Patented
If this is true, we might be looking at the new CB300R with an updated design it desperately needs. It gets a new LED headlight, almost identical to the one seen on global 2025 CB300R. There’s a new fuel tank with less clutter and simpler tank shrouds. There’s a beefier belly pan and more muscular body panels on rear subframe.
Turn indicators are now circular and so are the instrument cluster and ORVMs. The main change can be seen at the rear where we get a new design with a tail tidy. Wheels and tyres look the same and the brakes seem to be carried over too. Exhaust end-can looks the same as current CB300R, with a new heat shield. USD front forks and rear mono-shock are carried over as well.
    Is this a Neo-Retro Hornet 2.0?
There’s a good probability that Honda might be carving a new version of Hornet 2.0 that takes a neo-retro roadster design. Yamaha has used this formula and has created FZ-X, based on FZ street bike. If this is true, we can see the same 184.4cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that generates 17.3 bhp and 15.9 Nm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
    New Honda Roadster Patented
Given the higher performance ceiling, this new Honda Roadster motorcycle will rival the likes of TVS Ronin and Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Honda could achieve an excellent power-to-weight ratio, similar to CB300F and CB300R. For context, RE Hunter 350 delivers 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm but weighs up to 181 kg. We can expect it to launch by the end of 2025. More

Hero Vs Honda Sales CY 2024 – Hero Leads Honda By Just 1.09 Lakh Units

Hero vs Honda Sales CY24Ever since the Hero Honda JV ended, both brands have competed against each other in the Indian market. Hero MotoCorp has always posted significantly higher sales figures as opposed to Honda. But this sales gap has been closing down every year. And in CY24, Honda has reduced the gap considerably. The yearly sales volume difference between Hero and Honda is at an all time low at 1,09,567 units.
    Hero Vs Honda Sales CY24
Both brands have not been able to tackle each other at their core strengths. Which for Hero is budget commuter motorcycles and it is commuter scooters for Honda. Where sales are concerned, Hero MotoCorp has always had an upper hand with the ever-green Splendor. The company has been striving hard to revamp its premium motorcycle range too.
    Hero Vs Honda Sales CY24
Honda, on the other hand, has sold less units than Hero, where CY sales are concerned. The company has remarkably reduced the volume gap from Hero to an all time low at just 1,09,567 units in CY24. This is a remarkable achievement from Honda as the company continues to push into commuter motorcycle market while maintaining an iron hand in scooter segment.
    What do the numbers say?
Looking at sales performance of both brands in CY24, we can see that Hero MotoCorp did maintain an upper hand as it sold 56,57,446 units in domestic market and 2,53,619 units in exports leading to 59,11,065 units pushed in total. When compared to 54,99,524 units from CY23, Hero registered a 7.48% YoY growth, gaining 4,11,541 units in volume.
At the same time, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India sold 52,92,976 units in domestic market and 5,08,522 units in exports, leading to a total of 58,01,498 units. When compared to the 43,84,559 unit sold in CY23, Honda registered a significant YoY growth of 32.32% YoY, gaining 14,16,939 units in volume YoY. This massive growth YoY in CY sales has bridged the gap from Hero considerably.
In CY23, Hero’s total sales of 54,99,924 units and Honda’s 43,84,559 units yielded a volume difference of 11,14,965 units between both brands. However, in CY24, the volume difference between both brands is only 1,09,567 units, which is an all time low.
This suggests that Honda is rapidly gaining market share and increasing its presence in commuter motorcycle segment, while still maintaining upper hand in scooter segment. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp is prepping to up its game in scooter segment with soon to launch new-gen Destini 125. Hero is also betting big on premium products with Xtreme 250R and Xoom 160 launching soon. More
