      Ola Electric has pushed back the purchase window for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters by a month and a half. Initially, the second window to buy the e-scooters was scheduled to open on November 1. Now, the second purchase window will commence on December 16.
      This development comes after the Bengaluru-based EV startup failed to meet its October delivery deadline. Ola said the booking date was pushed back to deal with increasing demand and to minimise the time between booking and delivery of the scooters.
      Ola Electric Scooter Stunts
      While Ola S1 offers a range of around 120 km on a single charge, the more premium S1 Pro returns a range of 180km on a single charge. While the former is powered by a 2.98kWh battery pack, the latter gets a 3.97kWh battery. Both scooters feature an 8.5 kW electric motor that delivers an output of 11 bhp and 58 Nm of peak torque. The scooters are based on the Dutch-based Etergo Appscooter.
      Electric scooter brands like Ather and Ola are likely to be charged up extra, post Rajiv Bajaj’s ‘Breakfast of Champions‘ comment. To showcase the performance of these new electric scooters, their CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has shared a new video on social media. This shows Ola S1 PRO performing stunts which were believed to have not been possible with electric scooters.

      S1 and S1 Pro are currently being manufactured at Ola’s recently inaugurated facility in Hosur which is spread over 100 acres. The fact that this manufacturing facility is completely operated by women is very unique. It also revealed that at full capacity, Ola Electric will employ 10,000 people which would make it the world’s largest women-only factory.
      Focus on clearing backlogs
      The company is currently focused on fulfilling existing orders before accepting new ones. Production of the electric scooters recently commenced and it appears that it would take some time for Ola to clear its backlog of deliveries. It should also be pointed out that the EV manufacturing arm of the ride-hailing major hasn’t started delivering the scooters to owners of the first batch yet.
      Interested buyers can still reserve a slot for the upcoming purchase windows through the official company website a token amount of Rs 499. The firm will soon reach out to its customers in the coming weeks to schedule test rides of the scooters. Ola Electric hasn’t established any dealership network as of now and that has made it practically impossible for any interested buyer to get a test ride before purchasing one.
      Price
      However, things will remain same for consumers who have already booked their scooter for Rs 20,000 during the first purchase window on 15 and 16 September. The final payment window for such customers will open from 10 November onwards on the basis of previous communication by the company.
      Ola launched S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters on August 15 at a price of Rs 1.0 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.       Deliveries of e-scooters are scheduled to begin in the next few days. However, even after launch, Ola continues to test its battery-powered scooter on road. Spy shots of the scooter being tested on the streets of Bangalore have been shared by automotive enthusiast Arya.
      From the looks of it, there doesn’t seem to be any visual updates on the scooter even though front end of the two-wheeler isn’t visible in these images. Ola Electric, the EV manufacturing arm of Ola, might be testing a new variant of the e-scooter with slightly different specifications.
      It could be a different battery pack or an electric motor with dissimilar output. The scooter seen in the images could also offer a new set of creature comforts. It is also possible that Ola is testing the same scooter which has been launched, with a part that is probably procured from a new vendor.

      As of now, Ola offers two battery pack options- 2.98 kWh and 3.97 kWh for S1 and S1 Pro respectively. Both variants feature a mid-ship mounted 5.5 kW electric motor which returns a peak output of 8.5 kW and 58 Nm. The base S1 trim offers a range of up to 121 kms on a single charge and can reach a top speed of 90 kmph. On the other hand, S1 Pro offers a range of up to 181 kms and hits the speedometer at 115 kmph.
      While S1 offers two ride modes- Normal and Sport, S1 Pro offers an additional mode called Hyper. Hardware setup on both variants comprises a tubular frame suspended on a single front fork and a rear mono-shock. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both wheels accompanied by a combined braking system.

      Ola is offering a wide range of features as standard on both trims. These include a digital instrument console with infotainment, Bluetooth connectivity, Wifi, side-stand alert, proximity lock/unlock, onboard navigation, call/SMS/email alerts, find my scooter, geo-fencing and a whole lot more. S1 and S1 Pro offer a very generous 36-litre underseat storage capacity.
      The entire lineup of S1 e-scooters is available in ten colour options. The base S1 costs Rs 99,999, while the S1 Pro retails at Rs 1,29,999.       Ola Electric, the EV manufacturing arm of the riding hailing major, has claimed that it has been able to sell its electric scooters worth Rs 1,100s crore in just two days. This means if the claim is true, Ola might have sold over 1 lakh units of its recently launched scooters S1 and S1 Pro in the limited purchase window of two days.
      This development was confirmed by Ola CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, on his Twitter handle. The e-scooters were supposed to go on sale on September 8 but were deferred by a week due to technical glitches on the company’s website. The scooters finally went live for sale at 8.00 AM on September 15 with the purchase window open for 48 hours until September 17.

      Despite this delay in purchase start date, Ola CEO assured that customers would receive deliveries of their scooters as per the schedule. Customers who had already reserved the Ola scooter, when the company opened online reservations in July 2021, were given priority. The Ola electric scooter officially made its debut on August 15 at a starting price of Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
      Aggarwal further confirmed that reservations remain open on the company website at a nominal token amount of Rs 499. The next purchase window is slated to commence on November 1, just ahead of Diwali. It has also been revealed that those who had reserved but were not able to purchase the scooter in the previous window will be able to purchase in the next window.

      Power and Performance
      Ola S1 and S1 Pro are priced at Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.3 lakh respectively. These are ex-sh prices, excluding the FAME and government subsidies. Ola S1 gets its power via a 2.98 kWh battery pack while the S1 Pro gets a 3.97 kWh battery pack. Ola S1 gets two riding modes of Urban and Sport, S1 Pro also gets Hyper mode.
      On board features on the Ola S1 includes small LED headlamp, a simple apron with integrated turn signals and sleek LED tail lamps with turn indicators on the sides. It also sports a TFT instrument display, disc brakes, 12 inch wheels, proximity sensor for keyless access and reverse mode allowing for easier exit from tight parking spots.
      Like other electric two wheeler manufacturers, Ola is also mediating with Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) for supply of electric two and three wheelers with charging infrastructure.       15 August, 2021 was a special day for India not just because it was the platinum jubilee of the country’s independence but also since it marked a significant step towards new emission-less vehicles. Ola Electric and Simple Energy officially launched their respective electric scooters Series S and One in India.
      Price
      While Series S has two variants- S1 and S1 Pro priced at Rs 1.00 lakh and 1.30 lakh respectively, Simple One will be offered in a single variant with prices pegged at Rs 1.10 lakh. After inclusion of state subsidies, prices of S1 and S1 Pro can drop to as low as Rs 85,000 and Rs 1.10 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom). Ex-sh price of Ather 450x is Rs 1.71 lakh.
      It is even more significant when one considers that both OEMs have had no history of vehicle manufacturing. Hence, we decided to compare the two new electric scooters with a model which has been in the market for a while now but comes from a relatively new EV startup- the Ather 450X. All three e-scooters are closely priced after consideration of FAME II benefits with 450X priced at Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom).
      Specifications
      Starting with specifications, both new arrivals seem to pip Ather 450X as far as performance and single-charge range are concerned. S1 and One offer a motor with a peak power capacity of 8.5kW (11.5 bhp) and 7kW (9.4 bhp) which is significantly more than 450X which gets a peak power rated at 6kW (8 bhp). Torque output of Simple One is greatest at 72 Nm while S1 returns an output of 58Nm.

      On considering range, Simple One offers a single-charge range of 236 kms while Ola S1 returns a range of 181 kms on a single charge. Ather, on the other hand, offers a range of 116 kms. (All ranges are as per IDC standards).
      Ola S1 Pro has the highest top speed of 115 kmph while Simple One offers a top speed of 105 kmph. Both scooters are based on tubular underpinnings while 450X is based on an Aluminium cast frame which makes it the lightest in the category at 108 kilos. Ola offers a unique single fork suspension unit at the front against the conventional telescopic forks offered in the other two scooters.
      Features on offer
      Coming to features, all three scooters offer modern connectivity options along with a 7-inch TFT digital instrument console. However, the latest entrants offer convenience of a touchscreen which is now available on 450X.

      Acceleration is possible from 0-40 km/h in 3 seconds and from 0 to 60 km/h in 5 seconds respectively. Kerb weight stands at 121kgs and 125 kgs. Ola S1 gets two riding modes of Normal and Sport while the S1 Pro gets an added riding mode called Hyper.       Ola electric S1 Pro scooter is priced at Rs 1,29,999 while in Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan prices are at Rs 1,10,149, 1,09,999, 1,24,999, and 1,19,138, respectively thanks to subsidies offered by the various State Governments. The base variant Ola S1 will sell at Rs.79,999 in Gujarat, at Rs.85,099 in Delhi, Rs.89,968 in Rajasthan and at Rs.94,999 in Maharashtra. Bookings of the e-scooter had already commenced a few days at a refundable token amount of Rs 499.
      Customers will be delivered their Ola e-scooter directly to their doorstep. According to the company, over 1 lakh bookings had been received on the first day of the booking from as many as 10,000 places across the country.
      Ola S1 Electric Scooter Price
      Ola S1 is based on Etergo Appscooter since Ola acquired the Dutch EV brand in May last year. Hence, most of its specs and features have been borrowed from its Dutch twin. This includes alloy wheels, a Lithium-ion battery, a digital instrument console, cloud connectivity and more.

      Now that we know that price of Ola Electric scooter ahead of its launch, lets talk about other details. Apart from these, earlier teasers had revealed that the electric scooter will offer some class-leading attributes such as 50-litre under-seat storage and app-based keyless access. It is offered in as many as nine colour options including Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Pink, Black, Blue, Grey and White and in three different finishes- matte, metallic and pastel.
      Specifications
      In terms of dimension, the scooter measures 1,860mm in length, 700mm in width and 1,155mm in height. As seen in the earlier images, the Ola e-scooter features a quirky-looking twin-beam LED headlight with an LED DRL strip around the main cluster.       Series S will be powered by a 3.6kWh battery pack which feeds energy to a 6kW electric motor that offers a top speed of 100kmph and a 0-45kmph acceleration in just 4.5 seconds.       The uni-structural body frame of the Ola e-scooter is suspended on telescopic forks at front and a horizontally-mounted shock absorber at rear. The scooter is being manufactured at the newly constructed 500-acre facility of Ola Futurefactory in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
