New MG Mini Electric Convertible Debuts – Just 3m In Length

MG Mini EV Cabriolet is slightly longer than Wuling Hongguang Mini on which it is based and also MG Air EVMG Mini EV Cabriolet ColoursMG Motor products that we get in India are rebranded Chinese vehicles manufactured by SAIC-Wuling-GM. For example, MG Hector which is set to get a next-gen avatar soon, is a Baojun 530 that is also marketed as Wuling Almaz and also Chevrolet Captiva. China is the largest automotive market in the world followed by USA.These products are fairly popular on home turf and in India too. But China also gets mini EVs that are incredibly cute and are a logical choice on congested roads of China. These seem to be inspired by Kei car segment that is very popular in Japan. An example for a Kei car is Suzuki Alto Lapin LC which was launched in June 2022.New MG Mini Electric ConvertibleRemember the MG Air EV that was spotted testing on Indian roads? That and Hongguang Mini EV by Wuling are closely related. Not just this, Baojun E100, E200 and E300 are also related. All of these are mini EVs with two doors and aim at personal urban mobility in large cities with congestion. Something China is known for.For people that don’t know about Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, well, how do I put it? It is the highest-selling car in China, the largest automotive market. It sold a fricking 56,609 units in just July 2022. To put it into context, Hyundai India sold 50,500 units of all their vehicles combined in the same month in India. Yeah!MG Mini EV Cabriolet BlackSo, it is not rocket science to understand why Wuling is making a Cabriolet of this Hongguang Mini EV. Heck, it even sells more than Volkswagen Lavida in China. VW is at it in China for a long time. With this popularity, Wuling is aiming to drive more sales with a convertible Cabriolet edition. It is based on a concept car that was showcased at 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. Mini EV Cabriolet also gets luxurious interiors too. It gets C-shaped LED DRLs and LED headlights, an illuminated Wuling logo, a secondary pill-shaped LED DRL in the bumper, stylish alloys, X-shaped LED taillights, ivory colour upholstery and dashboard elements, minimalist interior and more.Specs & PricingIt doesn’t get a central infotainment screen and gets a large driver’s display. It also gets a cute remote key, front power windows, and roof controlling buttons near IRVM and to add a little more drama, New MG Mini Electric Convertible also gets frameless doors.MG Mini EV Cabriolet Blue- Top ViewComing to specs, MG Mini EV Cabriolet measures 3,059mm long, 1,521mm wide, 1,614mm tall, and has a 2,010mm wheelbase. It is likely to get MG Air EV’s long-range battery with 26 kWh worth of juice and a 40 bhp motor with 110 Nm. It also gets funky colours and head-protecting braces too. India launch is unlikely, though. Also, if you are tempted to buy this car right away, like I am, it is not as straightforward as going to a showroom and buying one. See, in China, there’s a draw system for most cars and that holds true with Mini EV convertible too. Prospective customers should participate through LING Club App and the results will be announced on 21 September. More

Air EV Launch Price IDR 250m (Rs 13.2 L) Range 300 Km – New MG Electric Car

This will be the first-ever EV from MG stables to target urban commuters only – India launch by June 2023Wuling Air EV LaunchedMG Motor has seen some success in India with Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, Gloster and newly launched Astor. But now MG is taking a different direction and testing a product that no one in India makes anymore, the micro EV segment. Manufacturers like Mahindra have tried to capture this segment with two vehicles, e2O and e2O Plus, but have failed.Maybe it was the market back then that wasn’t ready to accept EVs as the next big thing. Mahindra’s products were not very desirable, to begin with. Now that EVs are a thing and mainstream manufacturers are digging it, maybe it is time for micro EVs to return?New MG electric car – Small EVMG has had a strong EV background in India. They had the ZS EV and now the facelifted model. Now, a new MG electric car is getting ready for launch in India. It only has two doors and is smaller in size than an Alto. Since MG has sourced every single car they sell in India from its Chinese parent company SAIC Motor and its subsidiaries, we knew where to look. This micro EV by MG, codenamed E230, is actually a Wuling Air EV manufactured by joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling based on their GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform. It was unveiled in Indonesia in June, and has now been officially launched. MG is toying with the idea of launching it in India too. Interestingly, MG Hector on sale in India is a rebadged Wuling Almaz. It is likely that MG will be using the same tried and tested method to launch this new small electric car in India.Wuling Air EV LaunchedAnother thing to note is that MG will go with as much localization as possible. It will source its EV components from Tata AutoComp and Gotion which use LFP battery cells like we see on Nexon EV. Wuling Air EV has 2 variants, a SWB (Standard Wheel Base) measuring 2599 mm in length and a LWB (Long Wheel Base) measuring 2974 mm in length. Both of them are 1505 mm wide and are 1631 mm tall. The SWB has two seats only and the LWB has 4 seats. The model sold in Indonesia and China gets 12” steel wheels. Wuling Air EV will also get two powertrain options, a 30kW and a 50 kW power motor and two range options varying from 200km to 300km on a single charge. Former is priced at IDR 250 million (Rs 13.2 lakh) and the latter is priced at IDR 300 million (Rs 15.9 lakh).Interior & LaunchMG has a tough job on their hands if they do launch it in India. Product positioning will be key here. If they market it for the mainstream buyers like Mahindra did, it is likely to take the same route of failure. But if somehow they market it as a third or fourth vehicle in one’s garage that is loaded with features to the gills, we can see a product like that sell in India.Wuling Air EV LaunchedIndonesian Wuling Air EV gets a minimal interior with two 10.2″ screens for the infotainment and instrumentation. Whereas, three rotary dials with integrated circular displays will form the climate control panel. It gets a 2-spoke steering wheel with audio controls too. The central console is detached from the dashboard and it gets a rotary knob for gear selection, power window controls and an electronic parking brake. More

New MG4 Electric Crossover Debuts With 450 Km Range – Kia EV6 Rival

MG4 EV name is for global markets and for domestic market in China, SAIC has named it MG MulanNew MG4 Electric CrossoverMG4 EV has been on test for more than a year now. Today, MG has finally lifted the curtains and revealed it to the world. It is expected to sit below the MG5 EV which was an electric version of an MG5 estate car.MG4 is rebranded version of MG Mulan, that is manufactured by SAIC Motors under MG marque. MG Mulan was unveiled last month. For the European market and other markets, MG is calling it MG4 EV.MG4 EV – Design & FeaturesBy the looks of it, MG4 resembles a lot like the first-generation Nissan Leaf, the one without a front grille. But it also inherits family design traits from MG5. The grille is completely given a miss on MG4 and in its place, we have a sharp contoured shape that does look handsome.Headlights get LED projectors and LED 6-tripe pattern DRLs. Lower part of the bumper is inspired by MG5 which gets sharp cuts and creases that will surely appeal to the target audience. Side profile is equally good looking and the lower part of the doors gets chunky plastic cladding.New MG4 Electric CrossoverRear design treatments remind us of Toyota’s rally-spec hot hatchback GR Yaris. Especially with LED tail-lights and the logo splitting the two extending tail-light elements. Other interesting design elements are, side windows look like they’re merging into the rear windscreen and a sporty rear split spoiler design that neatly merges into the top running board and into the A-pillars. This creates an illusion that the spoilers are engulfing the roof.New MG4 Electric CrossoverOn the inside though, it exudes minimalism staying true to current EV trends. Not Tesla’s levels of minimalism though and it is a good thing. Since more than 90% of a Tesla’s functions are controlled by that one screen, it is very frustrating, especially on the road. Whatever happened to good old buttons and knobs, huh?Platform & PowertrainMG4 is based on MG’s new Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) and MG4 is actually the first vehicle to debut this new platform. In China, it is called the Nebula platform. Same platform, different names. This platform is primarily designed to be a RWD layout with a motor on rear axle, but MG can also make it AWD with dual motors too. The battery height is only 4.3” (110mm) and this platform also boasts 50:50 weight distribution too.New MG4 Electric CrossoverSAIC has a lot of combinations to choose from in terms of EV powertrain. They have 168 bhp to 201 bhp powertrains for RWD and 443 bhp powertrain in AWD. They also have a 50.3 kWh Li-ion battery pack and 51 kWh and 64 kWh Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery packs. This new platform is scalable and can be modified to underpin an electric hatchback, electric sedan, electric SUV and even an electric Supercar.MG has not yet revealed powertrain details for the European market and domestic market. MG4 is expected to launch in Britain first somewhere in the month of September where it competes with VW ID.3, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the likes. MG India hasn’t revealed if MG4 EV will make it to India or not. More

Another prototype of the facelifted MG ZS EV has been spotted testing on Indian roads, this time in a completely disguised avatar. Unlike the previous test mule, this one didn’t wear a hint of camouflage and was wrapped by a white paint scheme.2022 MG ZS Electric SUV – Updated StylingThe latest set of spy shots reveals many specific details regarding the design and features updates on the upcoming ZS EV. Starting with design, the overall design of the car remains similar to the current model with the same crossover silhouette carried forward. The exterior styling of the latest iteration of the electric crossover is in line with Astor which is based on the facelifted ZS petrol sold in overseas markets. For starters, the most significant change is witnessed in its front face which features a closed-off nose instead of a faux grille with a celestial pattern seen in the current model.2022 MG ZS EV Facelift – New 17 inch alloysThe charging point is mounted on the nose itself, on the left of the MG logo. Another major difference is the front bumper which has been reprofiled to accommodate a slightly narrower air dam and thin air splitters on each side.In fact, the entire front end including the bumper and front and left fenders appear to be a single comprehensive unit. The other big difference is a sleeker pair of LED headlights similar to the ones seen in Astor. The upcoming iteration of ZS EV also rides on new diamond-cut alloy wheels with a dual-tone finish. At rear, things will remain mostly intact with similar wraparound LED tail lights, tailgate and bumper. Alloys are wearing a new design.2022 MG ZS EV FaceliftInterior Updates & New FeaturesThe electric crossover will also witness significant updates inside the cabin as well. Features under ADAS are expected to include lane departure warning, semi-autonomous parking assists and more.Expected PowertrainCurrently, ZS EV is equipped with a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery which is paired with an electric motor to return an output of 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque. 2022 MG Astor Electric (ZS EV) Spied – ADAS Radar, New Interiors

2022 MG Astor Electric (ZS EV)An improved battery capacity is expected to push the certified range beyond 450 KmNew test prototypes of the facelifted 2022 MG ZS compact electric crossover have been doing rounds in India for a while now, indicating that the launch is not far away. The updated version of the EV made its international debut in October last year and is reported to enter our market next month. The relatively short turnaround time underscores the important role the model plays in MG India’s scheme of things.2022 MG Astor Electric (ZS EV) – What’s new? While there were earlier evidences which indicated that the India-spec MG ZS EV is going to adopt a smaller battery to optimize cost, a more recent report suggests that the upcoming iteration will actually adopt a larger battery pack, and hence will have an improved autonomy. For reference, the current ZS EV on sale in India is equipped with a 44.5 kWh battery pack which has an autonomy of 419 Km certified by ICAT. It is being reported that the new version will adopt a 51 kWh pack which is expected to push the official range figure over 450 Km.A larger battery pack is likely to be accompanied by a sizable increase in price tag but a best-in-class range would go a long way in bolstering the compact electric crossover’s appeal. As of now, it is the Tata Nexon which is the best seller in the segment.[embedded content][embedded content]As far as e-motor is concerned, we don’t expect any significant changes. To recap, the ZS EV is powered by a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which has a peak power and torque outputs of 141 hp and 353 Nm respectively. The charging system comprises a regular 7.4 kW AC and fast 50 kW DC systems. The enhanced battery capacity will slightly increase the fast-charging time from 0 to 80% which currently stands less than 50 minutes.Styling updatesStyling changes on the 2022 MG ZS EV are primarily concentrated on the front fascia. While sheet metal design remains pretty much untouched, the previous version’s conventional front grille has been eliminated in favor of a body-colored pseudo grille element which is expected to bring in aerodynamic improvements.2022 MG Astor Electric (ZS EV)The MG logo on the nose has now ditched its black background and no longer hinds the charging port behind it. Instead, the new grille element houses the hardly noticeable charging port lid.The new version of the MG electric SUV also gets new alloy wheel design which also appears to bring a slight improvement to overall aerodynamics. We don’t expect any significant changes to the interior. MG India has also equipped the EV variant with some features that are borrowed from the Astor.2022 MG Astor Electric (ZS EV)A digital instrument console, larger 10.1-inch infotainment system (current ZS uses a 8-inch unit), and wireless charger, ADAS features, are likely to be the new additions. Latest spy shots of the ZS EV confirm the presence of a radar module in the front. The MG ZS is currently the second best selling electric vehicle in India after Tata Nexon. We expect the new model to continue its strong run.Source More
