In India, E230 will be launched under MG brand. To reduce cost, MG will be sourcing key components from local vendors. For example, the battery pack will be sourced from Tata AutoComp. The latter has an agreement with Chinese battery supplier Gotion, which covers design, production, supply and service of battery packs meant for EVs in India. E230 battery pack will have LFP cylindrical cells, which are similar to that of Tata Nexon EV. MG Extender Based Electric Pickup Truck Debuts – 330 Km Range

LDV eT6 gets a single electric motor generating 174 bhp and 310 Nm and draws juice from an 88.55 kWh battery packMG Extender Based Electric eT60 pickup truckUtes as they are called down under in Australia, pickup trucks are some of the most sought-after. In South-East Asian markets, pickup trucks are very popular. One such pickup in Thailand is MG Extender and it is rebranded as a Maxus T60 Max pickup truck for certain markets. This is sold as a ute in Australia under LDV brand (Leyland DAF Group) as Maxus is a trademarked word over there.LDV T60 gets a sole 2.8L turbo diesel powertrain in Australia. That said, this pickup truck has now spawned an electric version called LDV eT60. It costs AUD 92,990 (approx Rs. 51.27 lakh, on road). In Australia it is considered expensive as the regular T60 costs between AUD 41,042 (approx Rs. 22.62 lakh, on road) to AUD 47,884 (approx Rs. 26.4 lakh, on road). Is India a viable market for this MG Extender based electric pickup truck? Should MG at least bring its ICE Extender pickup to India? Let’s take a look.MG Extender Based Electric Pickup Truck Launched In AustraliaFor the money it demands, LDV eT60 gets an 88.55 kWh battery pack. It isn’t on par with what American electric pickup trucks from Rivian, Ford and GM have to offer. Considering that eT60 gets a moderate powertrain, it might be par for the course. Speaking of powertrains, it gets a single motor powering the rear wheels.Load BayThe motor is capable of 174 hp or 130 kW and 310 Nm of torque. Top speed is capped at 120 km/h. eT60 comes off as a little bland in performance considering that Maxus T60 Max gets an option of a 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine that makes 215 bhp of power and 500 Nm of torque. On top of it, eT60 weighs in at 2,300 kg, while ICE counterpart weighs up to 2,150 kg.eT6 promises a range of 330 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). Both AC and DC fast charging are supported. AC charger supports up to 11 kW with 9 hours to charge from a 3-phase socket. Up to 80 kW of DC fast charging is supported via CCS2 charging socket. Charging time reduces drastically with 20% to 80% charge taking around 45 minutes.FeaturesMG Extender based electric pickup truck eT60 is decently kitted for what it is worth. Features like single zone AC, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, electrically adjustable front seats, leatherette upholstery and more. Infotainment system comprises a 10.25” unit that gets Apple CarPlay, reverse camera and four speakers.Interior17” alloy wheels, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, 6 airbags, ESP, brake assist, hill descent and ascent control, traction control and more. ADAS systems are given a miss. India has never been a pickup nation. That said, we have two pickup trucks to choose from. One being Isuzu V-Cross and the other being Toyota Hilux. Both of them have a reputation of being pricey for what they offer. MG is not bringing its Extender or an electric version of it, similar to LDV eT60, to Indian shores anytime soon. More

MG Air EV likely to get a choice – 30 kW (40 bhp) and 50 kW (67 bhp) electric motor with 200 to 300 km drive rangeMG Air EV Rear ProfileWhen it comes to EV tech, MG has been keeping pace with the need of the hour. With ZS EV, MG has presented itself as an early EV player in the Indian market. Sales don’t equal bigger volume products simply because MG’s scale of operations here is not that of a big manufacturer. While EV tech is touted as the future, cars are not visibly cheaper. Mahindra’s EV portfolio starts from XUV400, and it’s highly unlikely to be priced well within the Rs. 10 lakh bracket. MG currently only has facelifted version of ZS EV in its EV arsenal. Based on Baojun Kiwi EV powertrain, this new Micro electric SUV is likely to get dual motors with 100+ bhp of power and 4WDNew MG Micro Electric SUV ConceptBaojun, as an automotive manufacturer, comes under the umbrella of SAIC-GM-Wuling. SAIC Motor owns the rights for the MG brand and MG Motor India is a subsidiary of this company. Most cars that MG Motor sells in India are produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling. When we saw Wuling Air EV undergoing testing in India recently, it will be launched under MG brand. For example, the Hector that we have in India, is actually a Baojun 530. When Baojun or Wuling showcases a new product on home turf, there is a good chance of that coming to India under MG brand. Not every product will make its way. You get the point. What caught our eye recently is Baojun Micro electric SUV concept that is likely to be finalized for China in the coming years.Looking at it, we couldn’t help but wonder if it would make it to India. We already know that MG is toying around with the idea of launching small electric vehicles in India. They have plans to launch a small electric car under Rs 10 lakh next year.MG Micro Electric SUVThese small EVs are popular in China too. For example, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, which we recently covered, is currently China’s highest-selling vehicle. It is offered in a convertible avatar too and is a cute little vehicle fit for China’s congestion. The LED DRLs, front towing hooks, and alloy wheels make it appear very stylish.Even though it is set to be under 3m in length, MG Micro electric SUV gets a lot of muscle to flex. And flex, it does. It gets roof rails, bulging wheel arches and muscular fenders, hooks in bumpers, a tall face and a lot more. The grille design is imposing and FJ Cruiser inspired contrasting roof is a particular highlight.EV PlatformComing to what powers this cute electric SUV, details are not known. But speculations revolve around Baojun Kiwi city EV’s powertrain. Baojun Kiwi EV is also known as Baojun E300 and is related to Wuling Hongguang Mini EV and Wuling Air EV. Now you understand why this small SUV that is still in concept phase, is so interesting, don’t you?Baojun Kiwi EV is powered by a 54 bhp motor and is only offered in rear motor and rear wheel drive configuration. For this SUV, dual motors with 100+ bhp of power and 4WD are also likely. Coming to its battery, a 39 kWh pack is offered on Kiwi EV. The same is likely to be offered with MG Micro electric SUV as well. A production version of this concept is likely to break cover soon. More

China is the largest automotive market in the world followed by USA.These products are fairly popular on home turf and in India too. But China also gets mini EVs that are incredibly cute and are a logical choice on congested roads of China. These seem to be inspired by Kei car segment that is very popular in Japan. An example for a Kei car is Suzuki Alto Lapin LC which was launched in June 2022.New MG Mini Electric ConvertibleRemember the MG Air EV that was spotted testing on Indian roads? That and Hongguang Mini EV by Wuling are closely related. Not just this, Baojun E100, E200 and E300 are also related. Air EV Launch Price IDR 250m (Rs 13.2 L) Range 300 Km – New MG Electric Car

This will be the first-ever EV from MG stables to target urban commuters only – India launch by June 2023Wuling Air EV LaunchedMG Motor has seen some success in India with Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, Gloster and newly launched Astor. But now MG is taking a different direction and testing a product that no one in India makes anymore, the micro EV segment. Manufacturers like Mahindra have tried to capture this segment with two vehicles, e2O and e2O Plus, but have failed.Maybe it was the market back then that wasn’t ready to accept EVs as the next big thing. Mahindra’s products were not very desirable, to begin with. Now that EVs are a thing and mainstream manufacturers are digging it, maybe it is time for micro EVs to return?New MG electric car – Small EVMG has had a strong EV background in India. They had the ZS EV and now the facelifted model. Now, a new MG electric car is getting ready for launch in India. It only has two doors and is smaller in size than an Alto. Since MG has sourced every single car they sell in India from its Chinese parent company SAIC Motor and its subsidiaries, we knew where to look. This micro EV by MG, codenamed E230, is actually a Wuling Air EV manufactured by joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling based on their GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform. It was unveiled in Indonesia in June, and has now been officially launched. MG is toying with the idea of launching it in India too. Interestingly, MG Hector on sale in India is a rebadged Wuling Almaz. It is likely that MG will be using the same tried and tested method to launch this new small electric car in India.Wuling Air EV LaunchedAnother thing to note is that MG will go with as much localization as possible. It will source its EV components from Tata AutoComp and Gotion which use LFP battery cells like we see on Nexon EV. Wuling Air EV has 2 variants, a SWB (Standard Wheel Base) measuring 2599 mm in length and a LWB (Long Wheel Base) measuring 2974 mm in length. Both of them are 1505 mm wide and are 1631 mm tall. The SWB has two seats only and the LWB has 4 seats. The model sold in Indonesia and China gets 12” steel wheels. Wuling Air EV will also get two powertrain options, a 30kW and a 50 kW power motor and two range options varying from 200km to 300km on a single charge. Former is priced at IDR 250 million (Rs 13.2 lakh) and the latter is priced at IDR 300 million (Rs 15.9 lakh).Interior & LaunchMG has a tough job on their hands if they do launch it in India. Product positioning will be key here. If they market it for the mainstream buyers like Mahindra did, it is likely to take the same route of failure. But if somehow they market it as a third or fourth vehicle in one’s garage that is loaded with features to the gills, we can see a product like that sell in India.Wuling Air EV LaunchedIndonesian Wuling Air EV gets a minimal interior with two 10.2″ screens for the infotainment and instrumentation. Whereas, three rotary dials with integrated circular displays will form the climate control panel. It gets a 2-spoke steering wheel with audio controls too. The central console is detached from the dashboard and it gets a rotary knob for gear selection, power window controls and an electronic parking brake. More
