Its curvy, aerodynamic profile exudes confidence and sophistication, something that’s just not possible with the boxy profile of traditional SUVs.Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied Mahindra had recently filed a design patent for XUV.e9, which reveals features such as a closed front panel, sleek C-shaped DRLs, full-width LED light bar, sharp LED headlamps and chiselled bonnet. Side profile has sporty alloy wheels, circular fenders and ORVMs with integrated turn signals. It is likely that the ORVMs will have cameras to support the 360° view. While the front doors have flush-type handles, the rear door handles are mounted on the C-pillar.At rear, the SUV has shark fin antenna, split aero rear spoiler, wraparound tail lamps, prominent bumper and fake air vent-type elements. XUV.e9’s coupe profile is not just about aesthetics. It also makes the vehicle more efficient by reducing drag. Wheels too have aerodynamic properties. The first INGLO platform-equipped vehicle to launch is highly likely to be XUV.e8, which has been spotted testing on multiple occasions.At Mahindra’s Future Scape event held in Johannesburg, South Africa, the company presentations demonstrated INGLO platform populated with BYD’s Blade cells. There have been spy shots showing profile, but the new spy shots show rear section as well.Mahindra XUV.e9 EV CoupeFor starters, the new XUV.e9 is essentially an electrified version of upcoming XUV700 Coupe or XUV800. While XUV.e8 is an electrified version of XUV700, XUV.e9 is an electrified version of XUV800, which could be launched at a later date. To ace aerodynamic performance of a coupe SUV, Mahindra seems to be benchmarking a Tesla Model Y, spotted at Mahindra’s premises.The recent XUV.e9 spy shots were captured by automotive enthusiast Anto Leo Thomson. This particular test mule was found trundling along near Paranur toll gate outside Mahindra City, Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. These are the clearest and the closest pictures of XUV.e9 yet. Most of the components like tail lights and headlights seem to be production-spec.In many Mahindra prototypes, we have seen temporary tail lights, but these seem to be finalised. We can see how massive Mahindra XUV.e9 looks and the massive road presence it exudes. Wheels look a tad small for a vehicle of this size. We can see split aero rear spoiler along with a shark fin antenna. Front door handles are flush, but rear door handle is in the C-pillar. Chunky body claddings will cut down on visual mass too.Immersive interiorsAnto Leo Thomson also mentioned that this particular test mule features a triple-screen setup – one for main infotainment, one for driver’s instrumentation and one for front passenger. We will see Mahindra’s new steering wheel which looks to be inspired by Tata’s new steering design. Like BE.05, XUV.e9 could feature a fixed glass roof too.Powertrain-wise, Mahindra’s new INGLO platform will underpin this stylish coupe SUV. Battery size will vary between 60 kWh to 80 kWh. Single motor RWD and dual motor AWD layouts will be offered as options. Performance with these SUVs will be plenty with instant electric torque. This unique surfacing is also likely to reduce air resistance. Combined with the coupe profile, XUV.e9 could have achieved a low drag coefficient. With the discount offers, XUV400 is available in the price range of Rs 14.29 lakh to Rs 15.19 lakh.With the discount applied, pre-facelift Nexon EV works out cheaper than XUV400 for the base variant. However, in case of top-spec variants, it’s the XUV400 that is more affordable after applying discounts. Test mules of XUV.e9 have been spotted for the first time, revealing a glimpse at exteriors and interiors.Mahindra XUV700 Electric Coupe Spotted TestingAfter XUV.e and BE range, Thar.e, Bolero.e and Scorpio.e will follow in the future, in no particular order. Currently, XUV700 is one of the hottest products in India, enjoying quite a fan following and immense popularity. Sky sky-high waiting period reflects the same. Mahindra is already testing XUV.e8, which is XUV700’s electric counterpart.Now, we get to see XUV.e9 prototypes on testing, which is Mahindra XUV700 electric coupe. In short, XUV.e9 is coupe version of XUV.e8, which is the electric counterpart of XUV700 ICE vehicle. With XUV.e9, Mahindra is not offering a sloping roofline to XUV.e8 and call it a day. There is a cavity in this prototype below its bonnet, which will be filled by a full-width LED light bar. This light bar looks slightly more sophisticated and stylised than what we saw on XUV.e8. There are makeshift headlights on this test mule that will be replaced with production-spec ones when launched.Mahindra XUV.e9 interiorThere is no opening in its grill as it is an electric vehicle. Lower bumper has air dams flanking a radar module for ADAS suite that resembles the one seen with XUV.e8 prototypes. Even through its camouflage, we can see thick body claddings all around this mid-size SUV. These claddings will cut down on visual bulk, quite a bit.Mahindra’s first-ever coupe vehicleWheels are camouflaged too. We can see this SUVs coupe side profile that paints quite a picture how Mahindra’s first-ever coupe vehicle will look like. The roofline slopes quite a bit and elegantly terminates at the end, flowing into rear section. Mahindra seems to have benchmarked a Tesla Model Y for aerodynamics.Unlike XUV500 Aero concept with suicide doors back in the day, this Mahindra XUV.e9 looks a lot more elegant, organic and mature. In the leaked picture, we can see the image of a smartphone with arrow mark suggesting to tilt phone. This is a common template used in vertical social media content.Mahindra XUV.e9 profileMaybe Mahindra is releasing a teaser in near future and these images are snippets from that teaser. The cockpit area wears a decluttered look, enhancing the sense of roominess. The centre console is placed high, ensuring a clear demarcation of individual spaces. Thar electric has a new steering wheel with mounted controls. The large, robust grab handles are functionally relevant and hint towards the SUV’s off-roading capabilities.New Mahindra Thar ElectricMahindra Thar.e performanceMahindra is yet to reveal powertrain details of Thar electric. However, it will be safe to assume that the electric version will have even better capabilities than existing ICE variant. Both 3-door and 5-door models will be on offer. These will have dual motor setup. The INGLO platform will be using BYD’s Blade and Prismatic cells that are known for their durability and long range.Ground clearance of Thar electric will be 250 mm to 300 mm. Front and rear overhang will be kept as low as possible. It will be around 640 mm – 680 mm and 680 mm – 740 mm, respectively. Wheelbase will be 2,775 mm to 2,975 mm. Thar electric will have best in class approach angle, departure angle, ramp-over angle and water wading capabilities.While Thar electric is quite tempting, enthusiasts may have to wait several months before they can take it for a test ride. Mahindra has its hands full, managing existing deliveries as well as working on its electric range. Mahindra will be electrifying its existing ICE SUVs and also introduce its born-electric SUVs.
