Upcoming Mahindra KUV100 Electric Leaks Via Official Website

Upcoming Mahindra KUV100 Electric. Hat tip – Devi V Prasad ReddyMahindra KUV100 Electric will be positioned as an entry-level EV against Tata Tigor EV and the upcoming Maruti WagonR electric
Mahindra, like all major automakers, has been planning to venture into electric mobility with passenger vehicles for quite some time now. Unfortunately, there have been numerous delays for some obvious reasons. Test mules of what appears to be the production-spec eKUV100 have been recently spotted.
The electric car made its first appearance as a pre-production concept at last year’s AutoExpo. Since then, there have been no developments regarding eKUV100 until now, when the e-SUV has made its debut on the official website of Mahindra Electric. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Devi V Prasad Reddy, for sharing the update.
    Exterior Styling
It has been pitched as an entry-level EV for the masses in the Indian auto market. For most parts of it, the exterior styling of KUV100 Electric is in line with its IC engine-powered sibling except for the closed-off front grille due to absence of a radiator.
The grille also offers improved aerodynamics and features small arrow-shaped inserts, six of which are finished in blue. The electric crossover gets two charging ports, one on each front fender. In addition, there are blue highlights on headlamps and taillamps.

The front bumper houses a very wide air inlet which also gets a tow hook in case the car gets stuck somewhere. The number plate housing at the tailgate features a thick chrome plate at the top with interesting ‘+’ and ‘-’ signs on it. All other design elements are similar to the fossil-fueled KUV100. There are also some subtle styling differences spotted in the test mule in comparison to the concept showcased at AutoExpo last year.
For example, the model at AutoExpo stood on alloy wheels with a different design which featured blue inserts on each of its spokes. Further, the charging flap wore Mahindra Electric (ME) badging while the C-pillar flaunted a unique triangular badge. The e-KUV100 in the picture is seen wrapped under a dark shade of blue. It is also seen wearing black body claddings over wheel arches and door panels.
    Specifications
At the time of its display in the biennial auto event, Mahindra had disclosed some of its specifications. The eKUV100 concept was fitted with a 15.9kWh battery pack which sent power to a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. The resultant power output stands at 54 bhp (40kW) and 120 Nm of torque.
This powertrain could return a range of 147 km on a single charge. These are very modest figures from every standard. The battery could be charged from zero to 100 percent in 5hr 45min using a regular AC charger (on the front right fender flap).
Using a DC fast charger, 0-80 percent of the battery could be replenished within 55 minutes (on the front left fender flap). Mahindra had priced the EV crossover at Rs 8.25 lakh back then. At the time of its launch, it could be offered at a price of Rs 9-11 lakh (ex-showroom). More

Mahindra e2o Electric Range Extended To 350 Kms By Northway Motorsport

    Mahindra e2o Plus Electric
Mahindra retailed e20 Plus electric hatch in three trims- P2, P4 and P6
Mahindra was one of the first auto manufacturers in the private vehicle segment in India to venture into the electric mobility space. It developed two electric vehicle (EV) models namely eVerito and e20 Plus in sedan and hatchback body styles respectively.
However, they were unable to gain any popularity among masses due to limited availability and lack of charging infrastructure and hence were discontinued. Range anxiety was another issue that led to the downfall of these vehicles, especially e20 that offered below par single-charge range.
Additional battery backup results in 350km range
The electric hatch was offered with two battery options- an 11kWh battery pack and a 15kWH battery pack. The former claimed a maximum range of 110km whereas the latter claimed a range of 140km on a single charge.
In real-world situations, the range declined even further with the use of the air conditioner in a stop and go traffic. Northway Motorsport, based out of Pune, has managed to increase the single-charge range of the electric hatch.
Mahindra e2o Plus Electric with range extender
A video, courtesy of Hemank Dabhade, uploaded on YouTube shows a stock e20 Plus being installed with a 17kWh battery pack. This is in addition to the pre-existing 11kWH Lithion-ion battery which results in a total capacity of 28kWh.
The additional 17kWh range extender pack has been placed in the car’s boot space. The purpose of making the video is to find out how much can the car travel on a full charge with additional battery backup.
The drive was conducted in a real-world scenario, in a very cautious manner with the air conditioner being turned off during the entire journey. The car was driven with extreme care below 25 percent SOC to reduce power consumption even further. At the end of the drive, the upgraded e20 Plus resulted in a distance traveled around 350km before the battery was completely drained out.

    e20 Plus Features & Specs
This is a remarkable figure considering the limited capacity of the power source. It was further aided by regenerative braking and additionally, 15-18 km of journey was covered in moderate downslopes. This helped e20 Plus attain a very impressive range which is hard to achieve by any EV on sale currently in the real world.
The electric car was driven by a three-phase AC Induction Motor which returns a very modest output of 26 bhp at 3500rpm and 70 Nm at 1050rpm. It could clock a top speed of 80kmph while it could sprint 0-60 kmph in a yawning 14.1 seconds. It was offered with a standard 3kW single Phase 16 Amp charger which took 7hrs and 20 mins for the larger 15kWh battery pack to get charged while the smaller 12 kWh unit took 6 hours to juice up. Mahindra e2o Electric Modified – Now Faster Than Tata Nexon EV

    Image – Hemank Dabhade
Mahindra e2o is no longer on sale and has been officially discontinued by the company

Known for its expertise in transforming fossil fuel cars into pure electric vehicles, Northway Motorsport has created the fastest electric car in the country. This is something new because when talking about entry-level electric cars, the focus is usually on range and charging time. The automotive firm also specializes in carrying out tweaks that enhance the range of existing electric cars.
For this project, an old Mahindra e2o has been used. As may be recalled, the e2o was discontinued and replaced with the larger e2o Plus in 2016. The automotive firm has also given a new name to its modified car by adding ‘Type-R’ suffix.
Mahindra e2o Type-R by Hemank Dabhade
Speed comparison with other electric cars
Although the exact details of the modification have not been revealed, the firm has claimed that its Mahindra e2o Type-R custom car can achieve top speed of 160 kmph. This is double the speed of existing Mahindra e2o Plus that has top speed of 80 kmph.
e2o Type-R also beats other electric cars in India such as Mahindra eVerito (86 kmph), Tata Tigor EV (80 kmph), and Tata Nexon EV (120 kmph). e2o Type-R is also faster than MG ZS EV (140 kmph) and Hyundai Kona Electric (155 kmph), which are imported as CKDs and assembled in India. Effectively making this the fastest electric car in India.

Modified e2o Type-R delivers 750 Nm of torque at wheels and has been equipped with 4-speed semi-automatic gearbox. Even when the vehicle has been redesigned for speed, it is still cost effective at just Rs 1 per kilometre.
Northway Motorsport has also said that most of the components used in this modification project have been sourced from within the country. The modified car meets OEM standards in terms of quality of parts and fitment.

    Key upgrades
Some of the key hardware changes include 6 pot brakes, drilled and slotted rotors, adjustable suspension, 9J forged wheels, and stretch fit low profile tyres. The car has also been equipped with internet connected smart features that can be accessed via an app or voice controls.
Mahindra e2o Type-R also gets a stylish makeover with changes such as black mesh grille and eye-catchy fluorescent yellow strips at top of the grille and on front bumper. On the inside, upgrades include a large floating touchscreen infotainment system and bucket seats.

This modification project is non-commercial and has been carried out purely for research and development purposes. So, if you own an e2o and want similar results, it’s unlikely that such modifications would be road legal. Just like its other project vehicles, e2o Type-R was tested on private tracks in a controlled environment.

Mahindra Electric seeks partners to strengthen its EV Portfolio in India

Mahindra & Mahindra’s EV division is almost ready with the eXUV300 or XUV300 Electric subcompact crossover
To strengthen the Indian automotive market’s infant yet growing EV scenario, Mahindra & Mahindra group is looking for strategic partners to scale up its subsidiary, Mahindra Electric. Despite facing a 94 per cent decline in profits for the June quarter due to COVID-19 and regional lockdown protocols, the Indian automaker states that its EV-launch plans stay unaffected. Mahindra Electric is arguably the pioneers of the nation’s push towards electric mobility in PV (passenger vehicle) segment.
Immense interest in India’s EV space

According to Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, the company has “invested significant capital in the segment”. He added that M&M officials are in talks with “multiple interested parties” to invest in Mahindra Electric. “We are fairly well invested (to drive the EV market),” states Pawan Goenka. In addition to a dedicated facility in Bangalore, the company has invested in its Chakan manufacturing facility to develop high-range battery packs.
Mahindra & Mahindra group aims to be a dominant player in the global EV space with Mahindra Electric in the affordable PV segment. Higher up on the price ladder, Mahindra-owned Italian automaker Automobili Pininfarina will introduce performance-focused electric products (major portfolio expansion in the plans).

    Mahindra Funster Electric Concept
The iconic design firm has only one product at present, Pininfarina Battista electric hypercar. It was unveiled at 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and production (limited to just 150 units) was scheduled to start sometime this year. However, COVID-19 and related confusions pushed the production timeline to 2021.
Mahindra & Mahindra recently shared that it is looking forward to a new partnership to run the South Korean subsidiary, SsangYong Motor Company. Mahindra has decided to back off from investing further in SsangYong, except about $32 million to help it stay afloat. Certain parties have already shown interest in the company.
    Mahindra eXUV300
The much-awaited Mahindra eXUV300 (or XUV300 Electric) will directly rival Tata Motors’ Nexon EV. Based on the brand’s all-new MESMA 350 architecture, the all-electric subcompact crossover (or “compact SUV”) promises a range of over 370km (under ARAI testing) on a full charge. Real-life range figures would exceed 300km.
‘MESMA’ expands to Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture. It supports 60-280kW motors as well as battery capacities ranging up to 80kWh. Dual-motor setups (electric AWD) are also possible. The 2021MY SsangYong E100, the Tivoli-based electric crossover, is developed over MESMA. It is worth mentioning that the SsangYong Tivoli formed the base for Mahindra’s successful XUV300.

Three new Mahindra EVs to launch in 2020 – KUV100, Atom, Treo Zor

    Mahindra Atom electric spied
Mahindra Electric had showcased all its current and upcoming EVs in either production or concept format at Auto Expo 2020

Mahindra Electric, the EV division of Mahindra & Mahindra group, plans to launch three new products by the end of the current fiscal (31 March 2021). This includes the Mahindra eKUV100 ‘micro-SUV’, Atom quadricycle and Treo Zor cargo three-wheeler.
Mahindra Electric is one of the leading players in the country’s budding EV market. Last year, the company sold 14,000 electric vehicles in the country. A good majority of the sales were contributed by the Treo and e-Alfa three-wheelers.
Mahindra Electric had showcased its full line of products in either production or concept avatar at Auto Expo 2020, held in early February. The biennial automotive event also became a venue to debut the Mahindra eXUV300 albeit as a concept. The all-electric subcompact crossover will be a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV. Over the months, we have shared multiple spy shots of the vehicle doing test runs.

    Mahindra KUV100 electric
Mahesh Babu, CEO of Mahindra Electric, shares that there is a high potential for EVs in the commercial vehicle market. With the rise of e-commerce businesses, small emission-free means of logistics are witnessing increased demand. Still, sales remain on the lower side due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis but much better than the initial lockdown phases. Mahesh Babu states that demand for electric three-wheelers has recovered by almost 50 per cent that of usual or pre-COVID trends.
Prices of the Mahindra eKUV100 were already revealed at Auto Expo 2020. The raised hatchback comes at a starting price of Rs 8.25 lakh ex-showroom. Powered by a 40kW (~54bhp) electric motor, the eKUV100 produces 120Nm of torque from zero RPMs. Claimed range figures cross 145km on a full charge. Using a DC fast-charger, the battery can attain 80% charge in around an hour’s time.

Meanwhile, Mahindra has discontinued the regular KUV100 diesel variant ahead of BS6 era. The current 2020MY Mahindra KUV100 is available only in a 1.2-litre NA petrol format making 82bhp and 115Nm while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
At the moment, there are limited choices in the electric four-wheeler market. Popular names include the Hyundai Kona, MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon. On the other hand, the Indian two-wheeler market (especially scooters) has a wide range of products lacking a tailpipe. It is worth mentioning that electric scooters make more sense than a conventional petrol-CVT example in several scenarios — know more.
