Splendor alone sells more than second and third highest selling motorcycles combined and is expected to stay that way for a long time.But in the scooter market of India, Hero has not had such a grand monopoly. Because that cake is still in Honda’s kitchen where the Activa is brewed. If we look at top 10 scooter list for the month of June 2022, Activa alone sells more than second highest to ninth highest selling vehicles combined. This says a lot about the scooter market in India.New Hero 125cc Scooter – Sporty DesignHero has scooters in its portfolio that rival Honda Activa series. At the lower end of the spectrum, Hero has Pleasure which is a 110cc scooter and at the top tier, it has Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125. But as sales figures indicate, both 125cc scooters from Hero are not in top 10.It is not that Hero’s 125cc engine doesn’t have any sauce: It does. It makes 9 bhp of power and 10.4 Nm of torque. This engine is also mated to Hero’s proprietary i3S technology which enables a stop/start feature improving fuel efficiency. It is the style, form factor and character that both the Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125 lacked. That’s where the new sporty scooter comes into play.New Hero 125cc Scooter SpiedThanks to Shifting-Gears, a new Hero scooter has been spied under testing with heavy camouflage. This new scooter dons a much more sporty and edgy design than the current scooters on sale by Hero. It gets an LED headlight set up on the front fascia like NTorq, RayZR and Avenis instead of on the handlebar like Activa, Jupiter and Access. This gives it a sporty appeal and enhances looks further, is an interesting LED DRL pattern. It is likely to be powered by 125cc engine.New Hero Scooter – Features & LaunchIt also gets storage compartments below the instrument console like other Hero scooters and will also get USB phone charging too. This upcoming scooter gets a switchable i3S button on the right switch gear. At the rear, it gets an ‘X’ shaped LED tail-light and normal halogen turn indicators.Hero should have given a smoked effect to the tail-light cover as they did with Xtreme 160R making it look sportier. A glaring omission on this scooter according to us, is an external fuel filler cap which would drastically aid user comfort while refueling.New Hero 125cc Scooter SpiedSuspension setup is a normal telescopic unit at front and twin shockers at the rear. Hero 125cc sporty scooter might get 12” wheels that are machine cut alloys in this top-spec trim along with a front disc brake too. We can expect steel wheels and drum brakes with lower variants. We also expect Hero to give the XTec system on this scooter too. The instrumentation screen is new which is a rectangular fully-digital LCD panel with expected features like trip meters, odometer, clock, fuel-level indicator and Bluetooth connectivity with notifications and turn-by-turn navigation.Hero MotoCorp has not revealed any details about this upcoming scooter yet. But it could be launched around the festive season and is likely to be priced on par with Maestro Edge. When launched, this sporty 125cc scooter will compete with other sporty scooters like TVS NTorq, Honda Grazia, Suzuki Avenis, and Yamaha RayZR. The factor fitted rally kit comprises three sub-kits, tyres, suspension and ergonomics. Just like the earlier Rally Kit for Xpulse 2V, wherein sub-kits were available for sale separately, the same approach will be utilized this time too. Individual prices of the sub-kits will be announced in coming months.One of the key upgrades in Xpulse 4V Rally Edition is adjustable cartridge front suspension with 250 mm of travel and pre-load adjustable rear suspension with 220 mm of travel. The kit also has handlebar risers. In comparison, the stock version of Xpulse 4V has suspension travel of 190 mm at front and 170 mm at rear. The improved suspension will enhance control and handling as well as reduce rider fatigue.2022 Hero Xpulse 200 4V Rally EditionTyre kit has Maxxis tyres at front and rear, which are designed to improve grip and stability. The knobby pattern tyres can improve ride dynamics across varied terrains such as mud, sand and gravel. Stock version of the bike is equipped with dual-purpose tyres that can work across both city streets and off-road tracks. With the improved suspension and tyres, ground clearance has been increased to 275 mm. This again makes the bike a better off-roader. The stock version has a ground clearance of 220 mm.To ensure the rider is comfortably aligned with the hardware updates, Xpulse 4V Rally Edition comprises improved ergonomics as well. It includes a flat, taller bench-style seat and extended gear pedal. Currently, it is the second-highest selling two-wheeler brand in India as seen in our retail sales chart for the month of June 2022. Honda sold 2,85,691 units in June 2022 as opposed to 1,96,785 units in June 2021 with 45.18% YoY growth. The Japanese brand currently has 25.53% market share as of June 2022.When it comes to scooters, Honda is absolutely crushing it by selling 1,84,305 units of Activa series of scooters and 26,450 units of Dio as seen in top 10 scooter post. But Honda seems to be gearing up towards launching a brand new scooter in India. As indicated by teasers, it will be revealed on August 8th of 2022.Honda Forza Scooter India LaunchWe say it is a scooter and not a motorcycle because the teaser boldly says that the “Formidable” is coming. Looking at the word “Formidable” and the stress on the letter F can’t help us but remember a sporty maxi-styled scooter sold by Honda in select markets named Forza. No, we’re not talking about popular racing games under the Forza banner. Forza name is also registered by Honda in India.Right now, Honda has the ever-popular Activa series, Dio and Grazia. All of these products are conventional scooters and are powered by either a 110 cc engine or a 125 cc engine. But there is a new breed of scooters that is gaining popularity in India.Teaser shared by Honda India had focus on letter F – Is it the new Forza 150cc scooter?If you guessed electric scooters, you’re right. But within the context of this post, we are talking about maxi-scooters. Currently, we have the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SXR 160 at the pricier end. But it is the Aerox 155 by Yamaha that takes the cake with its R15-derived engine with VVA technology. Aerox 155 makes 14.79 bhp of power and 13.9 Nm of torque. This is the current undisputed king of maxi-styled and sporty scooters. Looking at Aerox 155’s success, Yamaha is planning to bring the NMax 155 to India too. There is another Japanese manufacturer that saw the success of the Aerox 155.Honda Forza name trademarked in IndiaHonda Forza RivalsForza 150 will be a maxi-styled scooter with oodles of comfort and wind protection. But design is just half of the equation. Honda has to also match the performance of Aerox 155 which is the benchmark in this segment. Honda might equip Forza 150 with a 153cc engine that does duty on scooters like PCX 150 making 13.4 bhp and 14 Nm or the 149cc engine that does duty on ADV 150 making 14.5 bhp and 13.8 Nm.Even though 150cc is the sweet spot for Honda, we can also get Forza 125 or Forza 350 which are sold in Europe and a few other markets. Forza 125 is more feasible than Forza 350. If this is the case, Honda will equip the new maxi-styled scooter with a 124cc mill that does duties in Activa 125 and Grazia. It makes 8.14 bhp and 10.3 Nm and will compete with the only other maxi-styled 125cc scooter in India, Aprilia SXR 125.New Honda Forza ScooterHonda Motorcycle and Scooter India has not yet revealed anything about this upcoming launch. But we strongly believe it to be a Forza 150 or a Forza 125. When launched, the former would compete with Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SXR 160 while the latter would compete with Aprilia SXR 125. If it is indeed the Forza scooter that is launched in India on 8th Aug, it will become the first Honda scooter to go on sale via their premium Big Wing network. More

It was in production from 1985 and lasted till 1996. Keeping this flame alive is Yamaha India, which sells spare parts for this decades-old motorcycle even today. Yeah!While some RX100 users tamper with their exhaust or take it off completely, being an absolute menace to society, some users run it on kerosene, creating an ungodly amount of smoke. But a few of these miscreants are not capable of bringing down Indian’s love for the iconic and nostalgic Yamaha RX100. Such is its legacy. Yamaha is a solid performer in the Indian two-wheeler market and with legacy bikes like RX100, it will see new heights.Yamaha RX100 Launch Plans ConfirmedIn an interview with BusinessLine, Yamaha India Chairman, Eishin Chihana revealed that Yamaha has not used the iconic RX100 moniker on any product till now as they have plans with it in the future. Thus confirming that RX100 will be back. But there is a catch, though. Yamaha can’t just bring back the RX100 back as it was based on a two-stroke engine that will never meet the stringent BS6 emission norms.Yamaha India also just can’t slap an RX100 badge on just any bike and call it a day. Because the new bike has to live up to the legend that the previous model was. It has to have the perfect combination of retro design paying homage to the old model, an explosive performance that the old model was known for and it has to be a special product and not a commuter bike. This is a huge task for Yamaha India to pull off. But pull-off, they will.Yamaha RX100 restored by Prasanth VioletAdding salt to the wounds of enthusiasts waiting for the RX100 rebirth, is the fact that Yamaha has products lined up till 2025. This hints us that RX 100 will be resurrected by 2026, hopefully. Currently, Yamaha’s portfolio only consists of 125cc scooters, 150cc street and sport motorcycles and 250cc street bikes. Most of these products recently got a price hike which we covered in a previous post. Yamaha is also expected to soon bring their premium and performance motorcycles to India too.Yamaha India RoadmapChihana further said that test runs and durability tests for electric scooters are underway and will be launched by 2025. The Japanese brand is also considering importing electric scooters sold in global markets via CBU or CKD route in the meantime.Right now, Yamaha India operates from two production facilities, one in Greater Noida and the other in Chennai. The company also exports to 30 countries globally from India. Also, India is expected to become Yamaha’s second largest export hub after Indonesia which currently exports to 60 countries.In 2026, Yamaha RX100 will join the ranks of other retro and nostalgic motorcycles from Royal Enfield, Jawa and Yezdi. When launched, it will be a premium offering and will cost a premium too. Launch of Yamaha RX100 might also spark Suzuki and Honda to launch their iconic Samurai and CD-100 too. Despite the steep price of Rs 10 lakh, it is generating good sales.BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said that BMW C 400 GT Maxi-scooter’s success in India has led them to believe that a strong demand exists for a premium product. BMW is now planning on launching their electric scooter in India. If all goes well, the CE 04 electric maxi-scooter will be launched in India via CBU route. This electric scooter is on sale in Europe currently, which is where it is manufactured.BMW Electric Scooter CE 04One look at the BMW CE 04 electric scooter will stun you. It looks like it came straight out of a Cyberpunk movie that probably took place in 2200. BMW CE 04 has a really long wheelbase with a low ground clearance which might be a recipe for disaster for Indian roads with giant and vastly illogical speed breakers.The front windshield finished in funky orange, looks purely aesthetic and might not deflect any wind. The seats look very eye-catching and at the same time, very uncomfortable. The rider’s triangle looks very comfortable though. Sticking with the maxi-styled design, it is not a step-through scooter as the central tunnel is stuffed with batteries.BMW Electric Scooter CE 04Speaking of batteries, it has an 8.9 kWh battery pack which is more than twice as much as an Ola S1 Pro. This battery pack is essentially one module out of 11 modules found on BMW’s iX electric SUVs. Instead of designing new EV components, BMW is reusing what they already have – parts sharing is the mantra. The motor makes 42 bhp and 62 Nm and is precisely a 1/3rd section of the motor that powers BMW X1 PHEV SUV. Also, it has a 10.25” horizontal screen for instrumentation, like we have seen on BMW cars.Price & LaunchOther components include front 35mm telescopic front forks and rear off-set mono-shock mounted on a single-sided swingarm, dual disc setup at front, and single disc setup at the rear with dual-channel ABS, belt-drive and more. It is capable of 120 kph top speed and 130 km of range from a single charge and weighs a whopping 231 kg. Yikes!BMW Electric Scooter costs $11,795 (approx Rs. 9.50 lakh) for the base model and $14,180 (approx Rs. 11.42 lakh) for the top-spec variant (both prices ex-sh) in global markets. Going by import trends in India, we will get the top-spec variant and due to Indian import duties and taxes, we can see a hefty price tag of Rs. 15 lakh to 18 lakh. You can buy an imported Hayabusa for that price in India. Heck, you can even buy the newly launched Tata Nexon EV Max, for this price.New BMW Electric ScooterIf launched, BMW won’t be pitting it for regular EV buyers at all. This is for the uber-rich Indians that want to make a statement with a niche product. Looking at it from that perspective, this is an absolute gem as an expensive collection in their garage. Because it looks like a concept vehicle that one can actually buy and it doesn’t get better than that.For the mass market segment, BMW does have plans to launch entry level electric vehicles, in partnership with TVS. Motorcycle manufacturers offer more commuters than premium motorcycles because that’s what sells the most. In the earlier post, we took a look at the top 10 two wheelers and top 10 scooters in June 2022. In this post, let’s take a look at the top 10 highest-selling motorcycles in India that are ICE powered – June 2022.Highest-selling motorcycle in June 2022 is Hero Splendor. Interestingly, Hero Splendor at the top, sells more than the immediate 2nd and 3rd place holders’ sales combined. At 2,70,923 units, it sells more than Honda CB Shine and Hero HF Deluxe combined.Top 10 Motorcycles June 2022Hero MotoCorp sold 2,70,923 units of Splendor in June 2022 over 2,64,009 units sold in June 2021 registering a YoY growth of 2.62% with a 37.03% share of this top 10 list. Second on the list is Honda CB Shine selling 1,25,947 units in June 2022 over just 71,879 units in June 2021 registering a staggering growth of 75.25% and filling a 17.21% share of this list. This is the highest YoY growth registered in June 2022 over June 2021 on this list. Splendor recently got the XTEC system giving more value to buyers.Third, on the list of top 10 motorcycles is again a Hero product that is HF Deluxe. Being the cheapest product from the company, it sold 1,13,155 units in June 2022 while it sold 1,10,724 units in June 2021 registering a growth of just 2.20% which constitutes a 15.47% share of this list.Top 10 Motorcycles June 2022The first product from Bajaj stables on this list is the Pulsar series which is in fourth spot. Pulsar range sold 83,723 units in June 2022 against 79,150 units sold in June 2021 gaining 5.78% YoY with an 11.44% share of this list. Even though Pulsar series don’t make it to the top three, they sell more than their arch-rival Apache series from TVS.Apache Trails Pulsar, FZIn fifth spot of this top 10 motorcycles list is Hero’s third product on this list, Glamour. It sold 30,105 units in June 2022 over 18,759 units in June 2021 gaining 60.48% YoY and constituting a 4.11% share of this list. Second Bajaj product in the list is also the first of only two with negative growth YoY. It is the Platina that sold just 27,732 units in June 2022 while it sold 43,313 units in June 2021 registering a dip of 35.97%.Royal Enfield Classic 350, which is the most expensive motorcycle in the list – has sold 25,425 units in June 2022 over 17,377 units sold in June 2021. RE C350 has registered a positive growth of 46.31% contributing to only a 3.48% share of the motorcycles in this list.       Top 10 Scooters June 2022 – Activa, Jupiter, Access, Dio, NTorq, RayZR

We buy more motorcycles than cars owing to our economy. Among the motorcycles, scooters form the logical choice too as they’re versatile in their perception and nature. But scooters don’t sell as much as commuters though.In the earlier post, we took a look at the top 10 two wheelers sold in June 2022. In this post, we have compiled a list of top 10 highest-selling scooters in India that are ICE powered. We have posted the electric scooter sales in a previous post.Top 10 Scooters June 2022Highest-selling scooter in India is Honda Activa. Excluding Activa, if we add sales figures of all the scooters in the list, it will sum up to 1,91,577 in June 2022. Interestingly, Honda Activa alone sells almost as much. At 1,84,305 units, it sells more than Jupiter, Access, Dio, NTorq, Pleasure, Avenis, Burgman and RayZR combined. Yeah, combined. Talk about the flex, huh?Honda sold 94,274 Activa in June 2021 which almost doubled in June 2022 registering a YoY growth of 94.57% with a 49.03% share of this top 10 list. Second on the list is TVS Jupiter selling 62,851 units in June 2022 which almost doubled from 31,848 units in June 2021 registering a growth of 97.35% and making a 16.72% share of this list.Top 10 Scooters June 2022Third on the list of top 10 scooters, is Suzuki Access. It sold 34,131 units in June 2022 while it sold 31,399 units in June 2021 registering a growth of just 8.70% which constitutes a 9.08% share of this list. Access has been consistent in sales and has a good fanbase in India. The second Honda on this list is Dio which is in fourth spot. Dio sold 26,450 units in June 2022 against 18,983 units sold in June 2021 gaining 39.34% YoY with a 7.04% share of this list.In fifth spot is one of the sportiest scooters on this list, TVS NTorq. It sold 22,741 units in June 2022 over 15,544 units in June 2021 gaining 46.30% YoY and constituting a 6.05% share of this list. Hero Pleasure is the only one on the list with negative growth YoY of 36.88%. It sold 11,321 units in June 2022 while it sold 17,937 units in June 2021.Avenis, Fascino, RayZR – Sales June 2022Suzuki’s new Avenis 125 has a decent head start of 9,284 units sold in June 2022. It constitutes a 2.15% share of this list of scooters. At 10th place of this top 10 scooters list, Yamaha Fascino 125 sold 7,915 units in June 2022 over just 2,065 units sold in June 2021 registering 283.29% YoY growth which is the highest on this list.  More

Bhavish Aggarwal has promised some feature upgrades and additions that will add value to existing S1 Pro users in the way they interact with their electric scooter. Among many, some feature additions disclosed by Ola CEO are hill hold, proximity unlock, moods, regen v2, hyper charging, calling, and key sharing. Of these, he has teased the Moods feature of Ola Electric scooter Move OS 3 in the video below.What Is New?Hill hold helps users while starting on an incline where the scooter will not roll back. Proximity unlock is similar to request sensors we have on cars where the vehicle will detect that a key is near, in S1 Pro’s case, a phone. Moods might be swappable themes for the instrument console. While regen v2 refers to the new software that controls regenerative braking allowing finer control or changed regen intensity.Hypercharging can mean that Ola is now allowing more voltage or amperage, hence increasing the wattage of charging with this Move OS 3. This will reduce the charging time by some margin. Calling feature might introduce a digital keypad on the touchscreen instrument cluster or allow you to take calls from the scooter’s speakers directly or both, if that’s your jam (weirdly).
