New Kinetic Electric Scooter Patented – iQube, Chetak, Ola, Rizta Rival

New Kinetic Electric Scooter PatentedKinetic is a known staple 2W brand operating in India for a very long time. The brand witnessed a downfall and is making a major comeback in electric scooter domain. The Kinetic Group controls Kinetic Engineering Ltd that further controls Kinetic Green and Kinetic Watts and Volts Ltd. The former already sells electric 2W in the form of E-Zulu, Zing and E Luna.
The latter, Kinetic Watts and Volts Ltd, is rather interesting because it is a culmination of Kinetic Engineering Ltd (KEL) and Kinetic Communications. This new vertical is tasked with developing integrated solutions for electric, controllers and batteries, but the company has just patented a new electric scooter as well. Let’s take a closer look.
    New Kinetic Electric Scooter Patented
Kinetic Watts and Volts has just patented a new electric scooter in India which might lock horns with the current crop of family electric scooters like Hero Vida, Ather Rizta, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ola S1 range of family-style scooters. One could even say Kinetic is also tapping into the nostalgia card that Bajaj Chetak currently has, with retro design.
    New Kinetic Electric Scooter Patented
Design inspiration seems to be from the Kinetic Honda ZX, which was a successful scooter in India. We can see a similar overall silhouette, while bringing the design to modern times. The front fender in particular, reminds us of Kinetic Honda ZX and so does the front apron, which looks sleek and slender. There’s a Kinetic logo on this apron that looks neat.
Headlight is of rectangular shape situated on the handlebar flanked by what looks like turn indicators shaped similar to Kinetic logo. Above the headlight unit, there is a faux flyscreen like on Kinetic Honda that even gets KINETIC lettering. ORVMs are squarish in shape and floorboard looks quite spacious and accommodating.
The way side body panels are executed, reminds us of Kinetic Honda ZX with minimal design. Grab rail is a chunky single-piece unit and there’s no rear spare wheel here, unlike the original Kinetic Honda ZX. Alloy wheels look like they have a three-spoke design and there seems to be front disc brake as well, which is not clearly visible from the angle in this design patent.
Kinetic Honda ZX Scooter From The Past
    What to expect?
Kinetic Watts and Volts Ltd inaugurated a new manufacturing facility last month in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra designed to make electric vehicles and its components. The company is likely to target mainstream electric scooter segment in India which is currently booming. There’s a good probability that this new upcoming scooter will be sold under Kinetic Green vertical, rather than spawning another 2W brand with Kinetic name.

New Yamaha FZ Bike Patented – More Affordable Hybrid Variant?

New Yamaha FZ Bike Patented – More Affordable Hybrid Variant?Yamaha has had an extensive lineup of FZ motorcycles in India. If you’re wondering if we’re talking about FZs across multiple displacement categories going till the 1000cc, no. All of the FZs sold in India currently are 149cc and there seems to be a new one that will launch in India soon, as suggested by the recent design patent. Let’s take a closer look.
    New Yamaha FZ Design Patented
Now, Yamaha has patented the design of a new FZ motorcycle in India with their ‘newest new’ treatment, which is turn indicators on fuel tank. But the new design patented by Yamaha does not have the fancy styling elements on fuel tanks and slightly subdued styling elements on tank shroud extensions.
Also, this particular design patent looks like it is donning the new Hybrid powertrain. This could suggest that Yamaha might be launching a more affordable variant of FZ-S Fi Hybrid, which is currently the priciest in FZ lineup, priced at Rs 1.45 lakh (Ex-sh). This is Rs 10,000 more than 2025 FZ-S Fi with the same design language.
New Yamaha FZ Bike Patented – More Affordable Hybrid Variant?
The company might be launching a new FZ-S Fi Hybrid variant without a few fancy features like TFT instrument cluster. We already mentioned subdued styling elements, but this new affordable Hybrid variant might also miss out on painted alloy wheels as well. It could be called 2025 FZ Fi Hybrid, without an S, and be priced at Rs 1.4 lakh (Ex-sh).
FZ-S Fi Hybrid is India’s first 150cc motorcycle with Hybrid technology in its powertrain. This 149cc Blue Core engine comes equipped with Yamaha’s starter motor generator along with stop / start system. Fuel efficiency is higher with Blue Core technology, ensured by quieter starts and battery assisted acceleration.
    Yamaha’s current FZ lineup
Currently, Yamaha FZ street motorcycle lineup nomenclature is slightly complicated. Range starts from FZ-Fi, which is an older Ver 3.0 model, but without the suffix. However, the S version of it is not the FZ-S Fi, but it is FZ-S Fi Ver 3.0. FZ-S Fi is the ‘newest new’ model.
2025 Yamaha FZ Hybrid New TFT Cluster
Then we have FZ-S Fi Ver 4.0, which already has an S in its name. So, the more premium version of it is FZ-S Fi Ver 4.0 DLX. Both these versions are the new Ver 4.0 models, but they’re not the ‘newest new’ ones with turn indicators on fuel tank. The ‘newest new’ models are FZ-S Fi and FZ-S Fi Hybrid, but they don’t get any Ver 4.5 suffixes. More

One of the standout features is the LED crystal block headlight, which ensures a modern and unique feel for the scooter.
2025 Honda Scoopy Patented In India
Even the tail lamp of the 2025 Honda Scoopy has a similar round design. The round lighting elements perfectly suit the smooth and curvy body panelling that Scoopy has. At the front, the scooter has D-shaped indicators. Round rear view mirrors further enhance the retro vibes.
Other key highlights include a single-piece seat, slightly upswept exhaust and a robust grab rail. 2025 Honda Scoopy features a versatile design that appeals to the younger generation while also serving well as a family-oriented scooter. While details about colour options for India are not available, the 2025 Honda Scoopy in Indonesia offers a wide range of choices.
    2025 Honda Scoopy
A total of eight colour options are on offer with the Scoopy in Indonesia. While the entry-level variants have a minimalist profile, the mid and higher variants come with dual-tone themes and attractive, sporty graphics. With its distinctive design, the 2025 Honda Scoopy seems to have significant potential for the Indian market.
2025 Honda Scoopy – Performance, features
Powering the 2025 Honda Scoopy is a 109.5 cc, eSP, SOHC, air cooled engine that generates 9 PS and 9.2 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with an automatic gearbox. The scooter has an underbone frame, with telescopic front forks and swing arm rear suspension.
    2025 Honda Scoopy
2025 Honda Scoopy uses 12-inch wheels at both ends, wrapped in 100/90 front and 110/90 rear tubeless tyres. Both ends have drum brakes with a combi brake system. With a seat height of 746 mm, 2025 Honda Scoopy offers optimal control and handling. The scooter has an LCD instrument cluster that displays info such as fuel economy, tripmeter, clock, battery indicator and oil change alerts.
Top variants are equipped with Honda’s Smart Key System, offering touch-free access for handlebar unlocking and engine start. The scooter also has a robust anti-theft alarm and security system.
    2025 Honda Scoopy
2025 Honda Scoopy – India launch
It is not certain if 2025 Honda Scoopy will be launched in India. A patent was filed earlier too, but the scooter was never launched. However, there is speculation that the 2025 Honda Scoopy could be launched by the end of this year. Assuming the 2025 Honda Scoopy is launched in India, it will take on rivals such as Yamaha Fascino and Vespa scooters. More

ABS Mandatory For All Two-Wheelers Soon – MORTH’s Big Safety Push

Hero Super Splendor XTECWhile a notification has been issued, MORTH will release a more detailed guideline regarding the ABS rule in the coming weeks
India has the highest number of road accident fatalities in the world, with a significant number involving two wheelers. In 2022, around 75,000 fatalities were due to accidents involving two wheelers. To tackle this problem, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) is planning to make ABS mandatory for all bikes and scooters. This new rule is expected to come into force from January 2026. Let’s check out the details.
    ABS mandatory for all 2-wheelers
As of now, ABS (single channel ABS) is mandatory for all two wheelers with engine capacity of 125cc and above. This rule can also be applied based on power output of 11 kW (approx. 15 hp) or more. Any two-wheeler with a power-to-weight ratio of 0.1 kW/kg or more should also be equipped with ABS.
For two-wheelers below 125cc, a combi braking system (CBS) has been mandated. These entry-level models constitute the majority of two-wheeler sales in the country. While a CBS setup has its benefits, safety can be more robust with ABS. Studies have shown that ABS can reduce two-wheeler accidents by up to 33%. That means a significant reduction in fatalities and injuries linked to accidents involving two-wheelers.
Data available with the government reveals that a significant number of accidents involving two-wheelers are caused due to brake-related skidding. That’s where ABS can play its role and prevent injuries and fatalities. Especially when the ABS is made mandatory for all bikes and scooters in the country.
    TVS Jupiter 110
    Cost of ABS upgrade
It is likely that single-channel ABS will be made mandatory for all 2-wheelers in the country. In that case, the cost of entry-level bikes and scooters can see an increase of around Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000. However, with large volumes, OEMs may be able to reduce the ABS upgrade cost per unit. Best Selling 2-wheelers under 125cc include the likes of Hero Splendor, Honda Shine 100, HF Deluxe, Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, TVS XL and Honda Dio.
It remains to be seen if the government takes some steps to prevent a price shock in the entry-level commuter segment. Current GST rate of 28% can probably be relaxed to compensate for the cost of ABS upgrade to some extent. Industry leaders like Rajiv Bajaj have often been critical of the 28% GST rate on entry-level commuter bikes. A GST rate of around 12% to 18% can make commuter bikes more accessible.
Two helmets with every new 2-wheeler
MORTH is also planning to make two BIS-certified helmets mandatory with every new two-wheeler sold. One for the rider and one for the pillion. This again is a decision based on road accident data. A significant percentage of fatalities involving two-wheeler accidents is due to head injuries.
    Image for reference only
However, this helmet rule will further increase the cost of commuter bikes. While the intent is good, the government shouldn’t ignore practical necessities of lower-income groups and budget-conscious buyers. Reducing GST further from current 28% slab, might help buyers absorb the increase in price with the two mandated helmets, when it comes into effect. More

Bajaj Freedom CNG Motorcycle Price Cut – Sales Decline

Bajaj Freedom 125While the base variant (Drum) has become more accessible, the Drum LED and Disc LED variants continue with the earlier pricing
Bajaj had introduced the world’s first dual-fuel CNG bike, Freedom 125 NG04, in July 2024. The bike was positioned as a game changer, offering the convenience of dual-fuel (CNG + petrol) and fuel cost savings of up to 50%. To boost sales, Bajaj has now reduced the price of the base variant. Let’s check out the details and new pricing.
Bajaj Freedom CNG Motorcycle – New price
The base variant ‘NG04 Drum’ gets a discount of Rs 5,000. From Rs 90,976 earlier, the price has dropped to Rs 85,976 with the discount offer. There are no upgrades or downgrades to the base model. Prices of the mid and top variants remain unchanged at Rs 95,981 and Rs 1,10,976, respectively.
    Bajaj Freedom 125
Powering the bike is a 125cc engine that generates 9.5 PS and 9.7 Nm of peak torque. The base variant NG04 Drum has a halogen headlamp, as compared to the other two variants that have LED headlamp. Bajaj Freedom CNG has 17-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels. Tyres are 80/90 front and 80/100 at the rear with the base variant.
The other two variants have 90/80 front and 120/70 rear tyres. The base variant has 130 mm drum brake at the front and 110 mm drum brake at the rear. The mid variant ‘NG04 Drum LED’ has 130 mm drum brakes at both ends. The top variant ‘NG04 Disc LED’ has 240 mm disc brake at front and 130 mm drum brake at rear. All variants have CBS braking setup.
    Bajaj Freedom 125
While the base and mid variants have a small LCD without connectivity, the top variant is offered with an inverted full LCD with connectivity. The base variant has sheet metal belly pan, as compared to plastic + steel metal belly pan used with the mid and top variants. The base variant also misses out on the tank cover flap offered with the mid and top variants.
    Bajaj Freedom CNG sales report
During the eleven months since launch in July 2024, Bajaj Freedom has sold a total of 76,760 units. That’s an average of 6,978 units sold every month. Since Bajaj Freedom 125 is the only dual-fuel bike in the country, it has the first-mover advantage. Being a unique offering, the bike had generated significant interest among potential buyers and enthusiasts. During the festive season in 2024, sales of Bajaj Freedom CNG had peaked at 30,051 units in October.
Bajaj Freedom Sales Over Past Year

However, monthly sales have been relatively less in 2025. There can be multiple factors at play. For example, sales could be impacted in regions that have limited availability of CNG fuel stations. Data reveals that around 60% of Bajaj Freedom CNG sales come from states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. These are among the states with the highest density of CNG fuel stations.
Sales of Bajaj Freedom CNG could also be impacted due to the phenomenal rise of low-cost electric scooters. These are not only cheaper than Freedom CNG, but also have less cost per kilometre. Charging infrastructure has consistently improved, which is another factor that is encouraging people to shift to EVs.
Bajaj Freedom Sales Over Past Year
Bajaj itself has seen a spectacular success with the Chetak, which is now the second best selling electric scooter in the country. In May 2025, Chetak was featured in the top 10, with sales of 25,540 units and market share of 4.65%. It remains to be seen if the price cut for Bajaj Freedom CNG base variant brings any significant change to sales numbers. More
