Yamaha FZ, Ray and Fascino commanded lead in both domestic and export charts for the past month

The month of September 2020 proved to be a promising month for most two wheeler makers in India. Bajaj Auto noted a sales increase of 10 percent while Suzuki Motorcycle sales surged 23.7 percent.
Hero, Honda, TVS, and Royal Enfield too have posted growth. Yamaha Motor India also registered a 17.36 percent increase in sales in the past month marking three consecutive months of sales growth this year.
    Domestic sales

Sales have been on a steady rise since the lockdown announced earlier in March followed by zero sales in April 2020. July sales stood at 49,989 units going on to 60,505 units in August 2020 and a further increase to 63,052 units sold in the past month. The company now looks ahead to the festive season to bring in more sales in the months ahead, especially due to attractive finance schemes and payment options being introduced on its 125 cc scooter segment.
Yamaha Sales Sep 2020 vs Sep 2019 vs Aug 2020

  • 2021 Yamaha MT09 Gets More Power, New Headlamp – Official

    2021 Yamaha MT09
In its latest avatar, the 2021 Yamaha MT09 gets TFT instrument console, larger engine, lighter chassis and improved suspension system

The Yamaha MT09, one of the best middle-weight naked sportsbikes globally, has received a major update for 2021 model year. With the facelift, the motorcycle distinguishes itself from the rest of MT family in a bid to have a unique appeal.
    2021 Yamaha MT09 – What’s new?
The quirky twin-LED headlamp design that was inherited from the bigger MT10 in 2017 has been replaced by a brand new unit which incorporates a larger single LED element in the center, flanked by vertical DRLs. The new headlamp unit gels well with the overall design to achieve an aggressive front heavy stance.
    [embedded content]
Minimal body panels accentuate the 2021 MT09’s updated three-cylinder engine whose displacement has been increased from 847 cc to 889 cc. The additional 49 cc, combined with a redesigned fuel delivery system, has resulted in an improvement of power and torque figures.
The new MT-09’s Euro-5 compliant motor is good for 117 hp and 93 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox with a quick shifter (up and down) is mated to the engine by means of a slipper clutch.
    2021 Yamaha MT09
    Chassis and equipment
The 2021 Yamaha MT09 should handle better than its predecessor, thanks to significant improvements to the chassis and suspension system. For starters, the aluminium frame benefits from a new sub-frame and redesigned swingarm which lead to a weight reduction of 3.6 kg.
Yamaha has also updated the naked bike with an upmarket 41 mm inverted KYB front forks which are adjustable for compression, preload and rebound damping. The rear is suspended by means of a KYB monoshock.

The new 10-spoke alloy wheels are engineered to be the lightest in the segment, thus reducing unsprung mass. The motorcycle now also comes with a wider 180/70-17 rear tyre while the 120/70-17 front tyre has been carried forward.
As far as equipment is concerned, the 2021 Yamaha MT09 receives a new colour TFT instrument console, lean-sensitive rider aids such as TCS, SCS and LIFt which are supported by a new 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), ABS and Brake Control system, riding modes and so on.

    Launch
The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 will be available in three colour options namely Icon Blue, Tech Black and Storm Fluo. The updated street fighter is expected to be hit the showrooms in international markets by March 2021. Launch in India is expected a few months later. The MT09 competes with the likes of Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster, Triumph Street Triple and so on. More

  • 2021 Yamaha MT09 Leaks Ahead Of Global Debut Today

    2021 Yamaha MT09
2021 Yamaha MT09 comes with a host styling as well as mechanical updates from its predecessor

Yamaha had teased its upcoming naked streetfighter- MT-09 earlier this month and it was revealed that the motorcycle will receive more than just an emission upgrade. Yes surely the latest naked flagship from Yamaha will get the latest Euro-5 emission norms but there’s certainly more on offer.
    Design Updates
For starters, the updated model will sport a revised front fascia. The updated headlamp cluster now gets a single LED projector headlight which is flanked by twin vertical LED DRL strips. Given that the current twin insect assembly looks better and more aggressive, many have questioned this decision of the Japanese manufacturer.

The upcoming model will also get a conventional tail-mounted number plate holder, unlike the current one which gets attached to the swingarm just like the MT-10. The swingarm itself is a different one getting rid of the upper bracing of the existing bike replacing it with a thicker main arm section. The updated fuel tank and fuel tank shrouds look more aggressive and meaner than its predecessor.
Also, the unique side-mounted digital instrument cluster has been replaced with a conventional and larger console. Another notable highlight is an underbelly exhaust similar to the one in the current model. It receives LED turn indicators at both front and rear and also gets an air intake vent on the side fuel tank behind its headstock.

    Reconfigured Hardware
The 2021 Yamaha MT09 gets a new sports bike-style beam frame. The new chassis resembles the one found in R6 and R1 which could translate into sharper handling on road. It also suggests that the upcoming model might be a few pounds lighter thus improving its performance. Suspension duties are expected to be carried out by the same upside-down forks while anchoring duties rest on discs on both ends with radial-mount calipers.
    Revised Powertrain
The major upgrade has to be in its powertrain department. As mentioned earlier, it now complies with Euro-5 emission norms. As per leaked reports, the current in-line three-cylinder motor’s displacement is also likely to swell up from 847cc to 890cc.

This means that power output has increased from 114 PS to 120 PS. It will continue to be paired with a six-speed gearbox which might see the addition of an up-and-down quick shifter. Along with the reconfigured powertrain, it is also expected to get IMU-based rider aids like multiple riding modes, cornering ABS and cornering traction control.
    Expected India Launch
Following a launch in Europe today, the updated Yamaha MT-09 is also expected to hit the Indian market as a flagship product sometime early next year. More details on the bike are expected to surface after the official launch. if launched in India, it will rival the likes of Triumph Street Triple R and upcoming KTM 790 Duke. More

  • Yamaha India Sales Sep 2020 – Fascino, Ray, FZ, R15 V3, MT15

Yamaha India Q2 FY 2020 sales are at 173,546 units – growth of 12.44% over same period last year
Yamaha India has report 3 consecutive months of sequential/MoM and YoY sales growth. The company is on track to further build on growth momentum on the back of the ongoing festive season, a period of high sales in the country.

Yamaha Motor India reports total sales growth of 17 percent at 63,052 units in September 2020, up from 53727 units sold in September 2019. As Covid-19 pandemic related lockdown continued to be lifted in phases, Yamaha was able to gain on sales activity. For July 2020, sales growth is reported at 4.3 percent, up at 49,989 units, up from 47,916 units in July 2019.
Sales growth for August 2020 is reported at 14.8 percent, up at growth in August 2020 with respect to August 2019. Sales grew to 60,505 units in Aug 2020 from 52,704 units in Aug ‘19. Now with festivities upon us, Yamaha expects October sales to be better than September, and with this another record month for sales volume.
Yamaha India Q2 FY 2020 Sales – Domestic
In capitalising on market sentiment, Yamaha has made available finance schemes for its new 125 cc FI scooters in specific markets. This is clubbed with the premise of low down payment options. Yamaha scooters Fascino and RayZR along with motorcycles like FZ, R15, MT15 have helped increase sales in this period.
    Quarterly Sales Performance
While FY21/Q3 2020 quarter sales has been something to write home about, decline reported in the quarter prior would add a burden of sales contraction to total yearly sales. For January to September 2020, Yamaha has sold 3,51,994 units, down at 30.7 percent from 5,08,344 units sold in the first three quarters of 2020.
For Q3 2020, sales grew to 1,73,546 units, up 12.44 percent from 1,54,351 units at volume gain of 19,195. This is in account of low base sales for the period in question. With no recovery at the end of FY20 when the country went into complete lockdown, Q1 FY21/Q2 2020 sales contraction leaves a lasting impact.
With this, sales focus on Q3 and Q4 2020 are a priority. Yamaha India has triumphed in Q3, and expects overall demand to grow during the festival seasons, all the way through to Christmas, meaning October to December quarter would be one of heightened activity. Despite current growth, company sales for 2020 is expected to be the lowest in a decade.
Indian Two Wheeler Sales – Sep 2020
For now pent-up demand from earlier in the year, last year’s low base sales, and a current expected consideration for personal mobility are all working in tandem to infuse life into auto businesses. At the end of 2019, Yamaha India had mentioned domestic sales target of 6.50 lakh units in 2020. The company is working on tripling market share by 2025 at 10 percent market share.
At the end of 2019, Yamaha had an overall market share of 3.5 percent, and its scooter market share was at about 5 percent. Last year exports stood at 2.94 lakh units, and in 2020 that number was projected to rise to 3.15 lakh units. At the end of the current quarter, it will be clear how much ground Yamaha India has lost on its projections. More

  • New Yamaha MT25 Launched in Malaysia at RM 21.5k (Approx Rs 3.8 L)

The MT-25 has adopted a design which closely resembles to that of MT-03 with a reconfigured engine
Japanese two-wheeler maker Yamaha is expanding its presence in the Malaysian market. As part of this, the company has introduced the modified 2020 MT-25 model. The naked quarter-litre streetfighter has been priced at RM 21,500 which roughly translates to roughly Rs 3.80 lakh.

The updated MT-25 shares most of its design elements with MT-03 which is sold in many South Asian markets. Therefore it features similar components such as the split projector LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED turn indicators, an LED tail lamp and a fully digital instrument cluster with shift light. The hazard function in the turn indicators is standard across the range.
The roadster is offered in two colours- Yamaha Blu and Ice Fluo. Styling highlights include a muscular fuel tank, step-up pillion saddle and split-style alloy wheels. Not to forget the engine cowl which adds to the ruggedness of the bike.

The MT-25 carries forward the ‘Darkness’ theme from the MT series which is clearly evident on the most part of the bike including the blacked-out engine, fender, suspension and muffler. The fuel tank has been reworked and gets new air intakes on the sides.
    Mechanical Details
It is powered by a 250cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin DOHC engine which cranks out 35bhp at 12,000rpm and 23.6Nm of peak torque at 10,000rp. This unit uses an electronic fuel-injector which is mated to a six-speed gearbox. It is based upon a tubular diamond frame assisted by 37mm upside-down forks from KYB at front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at rear. It gets a single hydraulic disc brake at front and rear with dual-channel ABS as standard.

The MT-25 is unlikely to make its way to India as the Japanese manufacturer already has the FZ25 and FZ25S which are doing decently well in India. Hence, the company doesn’t see any point on introducing a new bike in the quarter-litre segment. However, the 150cc segment is more popular in Yamaha bikes with MT-15, R15 V3.0 and FZ-FI V3 forming a formidable lineup.
However, as per some reports, Yamaha is developing an Adventure Tourer which it intends to introduce in the 250-300cc category. The new ADV bike is based on the Tener 700. In other news, the 2021 Yamaha R3 was recently launched in the USA. The R3 was discontinued earlier this year in India. The latest iteration of R3 has been priced at $5299 ( INR 3.89 lakh).

  • Yamaha R3 2021 Unveiled – Priced USD 300 Higher

Much awaited in India, the new 2021 Yamaha R3 has been launched in the US
Yamaha has unveiled YZF-R3 supersport motorcycle in the US market with minor changes and a new colour option. There are no changes to the engine of other mechanical parts. As compared to 2020 R3 that was available for USD 4,999 (Rs 3.67 lakhs), the 2021 model is priced at USD 5,299 (Rs 3.89 lakhs).
    Electric Teal colour option

One of the key updates is the addition of an Electric Teal colour option for 2021 R3. Teal is a trending colour and Yamaha seems to have matched it quite well with the new R3. The teal shade allows the bike to be more expressive, as compared to the usual blue and black colour options available with R3.
Teal coloured fairing, fuel tank, front fender and headlight cowl create an interesting contrast with the rest of the bike, which is largely done in black. Another dash of flamboyance comes from the bright orange coloured alloy wheels, which appear similar to that of KTM bikes. Sporty graphics on the fairing and headlight cowl further enhance the bike’s visual appeal.

Talking about the 2020 R3, the bike was available with Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Black and Matte Silver colour options. While the Blue and Black colour options have been retained, the Matte Silver won’t be available with 2021 R3. Another change is that Matte Black has been renamed as Matte Stealth Black, even though there does not appear to be any difference between the two.
While the Electric Teal and Team Yamaha Blue coloured models will be available in November 2020, the Matte Stealth Black option will be available from December 2020.
    Yamaha R3 2021 engine
Engine is the same as earlier, a 321 cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC inline twin-cylinder unit. It is rated to deliver 42 hp of max power at 10,750 rpm and 28.8 Nm of max torque at 9,000 rpm. Engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with multiplate wet clutch. The bike is estimated to deliver 56 miles per gallon, which is around 24 km/l. Estimated top speed is 110 mph (~ 180 km/h). R3 can go from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds.

Talking about the Indian market, Yamaha R3 BS4 variant was discontinued in the country. It is expected that Yamaha will launch BS6 compliant R3 in India in the coming months. Launch of BS6 R3 probably got delayed due to the lockdown and uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 pandemic. In USA, it is not yet certain if new R3 will be available as EURO-5 compliant model. If we look at mandated emission norms, BS6 is roughly the same as EURO-5 emission standards. More
