Yamaha XSR 155 Custom Modified Into Retro Cafe Racer

Yamaha XSR155 Custom by Glanets Radical KustomYamaha XSR 155 is based on the same underpinnings and powered by the same motor from YZF R15 V3 and MT15
Retro motorcycles often prove to be the perfect base for aftermarket modifications due to their robust and flexible architecture and simple design. A fine example of this is a customised Yamaha XSR 155 which has been converted into a retro cafe racer with lots of sporty intentions.
    Updated Styling
Dubbed ‘Reborn Cafe Racer’, this customised motorcycle is the work of a modification workshop named Glanets Radical Kustom based in Singapore. Kudos to the designer to approve of a styling that perfectly suits the bike from every angle along with the choice of colour scheme- black in a combination with golden streaks that give out a nice contrasting look.
Even the alloy wheels are dipped in golden yellow colour that gives it a rich feel. However, the highlight is the curvy fairing at front with a twin headlight setup placed asymmetrically one above the other.
The tail section is rather flat with a minimalist design and a trademark cowl at the pillion seat. The quilted seat further accentuates the look of a cafe-racer. The front fairing dons the number 77 in golden paint although we do not know its significance as of yet.
    Yamaha XSR155 Custom
As far as its dynamics are concerned, the modified XSR 155 receives a beefy upside-down fork at front along with clip-on handlebars that enrich its sporty riding experience. Another retro highlight is a pair of inverted bar-end mirrors.
Evidently, it rides on a fatter rear tyre. In our opinion, a naked look of a contemporary modern cafe racer would have aced the look, although the bike looks quite tasteful in this faired version as well.
    XSR Expected India launch
Yamaha XSR 155, as we know, shares its underpinning and powertrain with YZF R15 V3 and its naked sibling MT15. Hence, it is powered by a 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that pumps out 18.4 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm.
    Yamaha XSR155 Custom
This unit is paired with a six-speed gearbox, with a slipper clutch. The deltabox frame is suspended on inverted USD front forks and a mono-shock at rear. The retro motorcycle rolls on 17inch wheels shod by tubeless dual-purpose tyres.
A while back, it was speculated that XSR 155 would be offered in India at some point of time. Recently spy shots of a new Yamaha test mule were shared. This new Yamaha test motorcycle looks like the India-spec XSR. From the spied motorcycle, it seems that the India-spec XSR might not be powered by the 155cc unit from R15. It remains to be seen if it is powered by the 250cc unit from FZ25 or the 149cc unit from the FZS FI.

Yamaha XSR 250 Spied Testing For The First Time – Bajaj Dominar Rival?

2021 Yamaha XSR 250 Spied TestingA new test mule has been spotted on Yamuna Expressway – Believed to be Yamaha XSR 250 for the Indian market
In recent years, the popularity of retro classic motorcycles has found a new resurgence in India with new players other than Royal Enfield like Jawa, Benelli and Honda making an entry into this segment and garnering the attention of traditional motorcyclists. However, mass-selling manufacturers haven’t yet shown any interest in venturing into this space anytime soon.
However, it seems Yamaha might be making some progress in this regard. It is already known that the Japanese bikemaker retails XSR 155 retro-style motorcycle in international markets. This bike is based on the same underpinnings and powertrain as YZF R15 V3 and its naked sibling MT15.
    XSR 250 in making?
As of now, the launch of XSR 155 has not been confirmed by Yamaha but we think the company might want to build a retro motorcycle at a higher segment for the Indian market. This model might cater to the competitive quarter-litre class of motorcycles and might wear the ‘XSR’ branding. In fact, earlier in 2019, it was reported that the Japanese manufacturer was indeed planning to extend its XSR lineup in its global lineup of products.
Now, spy images of a test motorcycle have been clicked on Yamuna Expressway by automotive enthusiast Junaid. Though there is no branding seen on the said motorcycle, Yamaha has been known to test their upcoming motorcycles on this highway often.
2021 Yamaha XSR 250 Spied Testing
At this point in time, it is very difficult to make an accurate presumption about this bike. However, going by these spy shots, the silhouette is very similar to images of the possible XSR 250 prototype which made its appearance in an Indonesian auto magazine in 2019.
The test mule is wearing similar alloys, front suspension to those of existing Yamaha motorcycles like the FZ series. The engine unit also looks similar. It delivers a more relaxed riding position with large seat and good cushioning. It also seems to have a larger fuel tank – all points indicating towards this new motorcycle being a highway cruiser. Instrument cluster seen is a digital unit.
    Expected Specifications
The motorcycle’s design is expected to feature retro bodywork along the lines of XSR family and positioned between XSR 155 and XSR 750. It is likely to be powered by the same 250cc engine which powers the FZ25 in India. This unit delivers about 21 PS and 20 Nm via 5 speed gearbox.
2021 Yamaha XSR 250 Spied Testing
Suspension setup is likely to comprise inverted telescopic forks at front and mono-shock at rear. Braking duties will be handled by a single disc at each end assisted by dual-channel ABS as standard. A prototype of this was earlier speculated to make its debut at last year’s Auto Expo, however, that didn’t happen. With test mule now on the road, expect the launch of this new Yamaha XSR motorcycle to take place in a few months.
If not the 250, this new Yamaha motorcycle could be powered by a 149cc unit, which powers the FZ FI and FZS FI currently. If that is the case, this test mule could be the Indianized version of XSR 155 which is currently on sale in the international market. Yamaha India has already launched R15, MT15 in similar style – lower features to keep costs in check. Yamaha has stronger sales in the 150 cc segment and launching a 150cc XSR will definitely help the company further strengthen their market share in the segment.
Yamaha XSR 150 or the XSR 250 ?
    Yamaha 250cc Sales
The 250cc segment is growing rapidly. Recently, Bajaj launched multiple motorcycles in this segment, and has plans to launch even more. Yamaha already have a localized 250cc engine, which makes it a more logical choice for this upcoming motorcycle.
FZ25 sales have been below expectations (0 units sold in Feb 2021) and launching more motorcycles in 250cc segment, will help Yamaha benefit better from this engine that has been specially developed for India. It is highly localized, allowing Yamaha to price the FZ25 competitively in the Rs 1.6 lakh range (ex-sh). Expect the Yamaha XSR250 to be priced in a similar range. Once launched, it could take on the likes of Bajaj Dominar 250 as well as could be a more affordable option against the likes of Honda CB350 and Royal Enfield Classic 350. More

2021 Yamaha R15 New Red Colour Option Leaks Ahead Of Launch

2021 Yamaha R15 Red ColourCurrently, Yamaha YZF R15 V3 is priced between Rs 1.51 lakh and Rs 1.53 lakh and rivals the likes of Suzuki Gixxer SF and KTM RC 125
Yamaha will be launching a new paint scheme for its entry-level sportbike YZF R15 V3 soon. A new red colour option will be added to the faired motorcycle’s colour palette. Currently, R15 is available in three colour options- Thunder Grey, Racing Blue and Dark Knight (Black).
Price of the new shade variant is expected to be on par with Racing Blue and Dark Knight Option around Rs 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom). The third generation model of R15 has been on sale since 2018 and hasn’t received any major updates over the last three years.
    New Red Colour Option
From the images, it is clear that the contrasting red paint enhances the sporty appeal of the faired bike. The fuel tank, fairing and tail section beneath the pillion section have been warped in this bright red shade.
The headlamp cowl and side body panels have been painted in grey to give a nice contrast to the motorcycle’s overall look. Other than the new colour option nothing will be changed on the motorcycle either in terms of styling or specifications.

The BS6 compliant R15 V3 is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve motor that pumps out 18 bhp and 14.1 Nm of torque. This motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
Despite its loss in power from its BS4 model, it remains the most powerful motorcycle in the 150-160cc category. It is built on a traditional Deltabox frame which is suspended on a 41mm conventional telescopic fork at front and an aluminium swingarm paired with a mono-shock suspension unit at rear.
    Features on offer
Braking duties are handled by 282mm front with and 220mm rear disc brakes with twin and single calipers respectively while a safety net is provided by dual-channel ABS as standard. It rides on a radial tubeless tyre at rear.
2021 Yamaha R15 Red Colour Specs

Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle Showcased By Hurco

Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle. Image – Bike Exif. The custom Yamaha SR500 flat tracker has been built in partnership with CAD/CAM company Mastercam
In our profession, we come across tons of custom motorcycles some of which become part of our stories so that it reaches our readers. Most of the ones covered are not just funky-looking motor parts but purposely built machines for function as well. In this case, though, it has been specifically designed for a show.
The interesting part, however, the show where this vehicle got showcased had nothing to with custom-made motorcycles. We are talking about a Yamaha SR500 customised into a flat tracker that has been built by a 27-year-old named Maxime Fontvielle who works as an application engineer at the French operation of US machine tool company, Hurco.
Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle
The designer has been in love with mopeds ever since his teenage and came across a wrecked Yamaha SR500 for just 100 Euros (approximately INR 8,500) some time ago. Maxime has rebuilt it as a showpiece for his company in order to showcase this bike in various machine industry trade shows.
    Completely Overhauled Design
Entire design of the bike looks quite bare-bones in a truly literal sense. While major components including the frame and fuel tank are covered in grey paint with shades of black giving it a nice contrast. Along with this, a shade of blue on the alloy wheel rims is surely the eye-catching highlight.
Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle
Its overall looks are further enhanced by stylish decals all over its body. The designer has done away with a few components such as engine covers, chunky footpegs, kick-start lever and brake pedals.
Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle
There’s no brake at the front wheel although it gets a Brembo caliper and master cylinder that are coupled to a braided stainless steel line. The most critical inclusion is that of a 19-inch rear wheel matching front wheel.
    Updated Dynamics
This unit has been sourced from a second SR unit, that is machined to take a sprocket and a 300 mm brake disc. The rear wheel also wears a custom disc brake with Brembo calipers.
Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle
It also gets machined custom wheel axles, which run on bigger bearings for the front wheel while both wheels have been lightened by ‘splitting’ the spokes. The hardware setup too also wears a whole new look with a pair of Yamaha XJR1200 forks upfront with yokes, handlebar risers and a custom steering stem.
At rear, it gets a pair of new shock absorbers that are linked to a custom swingarm. Moving up top, the bike receives an Airtech Streamlining tail section that has been matched to a front number plate holder, a set of flat track bars and an OEM fuel tank. The livery has been taken care of by Maxime’s brother, who is a designer Austrian designing firm Kiska, the folks who handle KTM’s designs.
Yamaha SR500 Flat Tracker Custom Motorcycle
Lots of fettling has been conducted internally on the engine. It features a 540cc unit that comes with an upgraded camshaft, a K&N filter, an improved oil cooler and a Mikuni TMR36 carburetor. It also receives a reverse cone megaphone exhaust muffler and a new header.

Yamaha Y16ZR Sport Moped Based On R15 V3 Launched In Malaysia

New Yamaha Y16ZRYamaha has decided to expand the range of 155cc VVA motor powering YZF R15 to other models in the company’s lineup
Yamaha YZF R15’s powertrain and underpinnings are so robust and popular, that the Japanese manufacturer keeps on expanding this combination across its lineup. Recently, Yamaha introduced the updated Aerox 155 and NMax 155 based on the same powertrain as the entry-level faired sports bike.
Sadly, none of these extended members of the R15 family has ever reached the Indian shores. Now, the company has introduced a new R15-based moped named Y16ZR in Malaysia at a price of RM 10,888 (approximately INR 1.91 lakh). The same model was introduced as Yamaha Exciter in Vietnam in December 2020.
    New Yamaha Y16ZR
    Updated Mechanical Specs
First things first, this sport moped is powered by the same 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled VVA motor featuring in YZF R15. Unlike its scooter siblings mentioned above, Y16ZR receives a slightly higher output of 17.5 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 14.4 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.
For reference, R15 receives an output of 18.3 bhp and 14.1 Nm of torque featuring the same engine. This unit is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch. Take a look at the official TVC below, where the sport moped is taking on a race track at top speeds of over 120 kmph.
    [embedded content]
In terms of dynamics, it is built on a new frame that has been reshaped to incorporate this new 155cc VVA motor. The architecture features a thicker 4.5mm engine mount with a new Y-Shaped reinforcement collar.
Yamaha claims that this new chassis has been optimised for improved cornering performance at high speeds. Its suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at rear. It rides on 17-inch wheels on both ends while stopping duties are handled by single disc brakes at both ends.
    Features on offer
As far as features are concerned, it gets fairly loaded equipment that consists of full-LED lighting and a full LCD instrument console that displays critical information from the speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator and more. The handlebar switchgear also comes with a passing light on the left and a kill switch on the right.
In addition to these, Y16ZR also gets features such as a 12-Volt DC charging socket, keyless operation with call back function and engine immobilizer, some of which are missing even in YZF R15. Fuel capacity has been increased from 4.2-litres in its previous iteration Y15ZR to 5.4-litres in the latest iteration. The sport moped tips the weighing scale at 119kg while saddle height has been pegged at 795mm.
Yamaha is offering the new Y16ZR in three colour options Arrow Blue, Raging Yellow and Phantom Grey. Also, the first 5,000 consumers of this new moped will receive a Royal Selangor Y16ZR key pouch which can be customised according to the owner’s name. It is highly unlikely to reach India’s shores anytime soon. More
