New Yamaha Fascino Hybrid Powered ScooterYamaha will reveal prices of the new Fascino Fi Hybrid at the time of its official launch
While the auto industry was eagerly expecting the launch of a new retro motorcycle from Yamaha, the Japanese bikemaker surprised its fans by unveiling an updated Fascino also. Alongside, the company also laid down its upcoming revamp plan which starts with the launch of the new FZ-X.
The 2021 Fascino 125 Fi comes with a host of cosmetic and feature updates. As per the new plan laid out, Yamaha models in India will offer Bluetooth connectivity and side stand engine cut-off as standard across its entire lineup. Hence, these two features have been automatic additions to the 125cc scooter’s equipment.
Features on Offer
In addition, the new Fascino comes with a full LED lighting setup including headlight, taillight and DRLs. The scooter has been equipped with a new digital instrument cluster which is compatible with Bluetooth connectivity as mentioned above. When connected via Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X App on a smartphone, the console can read a range of information such as call and text alerts.
The rider can also access multiple information about the vehicle such as Locate my Vehicle, Riding History, Parking Record and Hazard remotely through his/her phone. Take a detailed look at the new scooter in the video below.

Other standard features across the updated Fascino lineup include a multi-function key with seat opener function, a foldable convenience hook, a 21-litre under-seat storage capacity, and a maintenance-free battery apart from the obvious side stand engine cut-off switch. It also gets an optional USB phone charger on the top-end trim.
New mild-hybrid technology
However, the most eye-catching highlight is a new mild-hybrid technology attached to the powertrain. This hybrid powertrain in Fascino FI a new Smart Motor Generator (SMG) System. The SMG acts as an electric motor to give a power assist when one accelerates from a stop, thereby, reducing insecurity caused by the wobble during start-outs during stop-and-go traffic or uphill climbs. The power assist system is cancelled three seconds after starting or when the throttle is cut back or the engine rpm exceeds the prescribed level.
Additionally, an indicator light on the instrument cluster tells the rider when this power assist function is in play. Benefits of the new mild-hybrid system are that the motor has become 16 percent more fuel efficient while retaining the similar specs.
New Yamaha Fascino Hybrid Powered Scooter
The updated Fascino is now offered in as many as nine colour options including three new ones namely- Vivid Red Special, Matt Black Special and Cool Blue Metallic in disc brake variant. Instead of Matte Black, the drum brake variant comes with Yellow Cocktail as an option.
Mechanical Specs
Fascino 125 FI continues to be powered by the same 125cc air-cooled, fuel-injected as before. While power output remains constant at 8.2bhp, peak torque output has increased from 9.7 Nm to 10.3 Nm. Rest of the specs in the scooter remain identical to the previous model. Yamaha FZ-XFZ-X appears to have potential to become another bestseller for Yamaha
Yamaha India has announced the launch of a new 150cc segment motorcycle today. Called the FZ-X, it is available in two variants. Without Bluetooth feature, price is Rs 1.17 lakh and with Bluetooth feature, price is Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-sh). Based on FZ-FI V3, Yamaha FZ-X could have the first mover advantage in entry-level retro motorcycle segment in the country.
It can work as an affordable (and possibly easier to handle and maintain) alternative to popular 300-400cc retro-styled motorcycles. Retro enthusiasts with limited budget could choose Yamaha FZ-X over bigger bikes such as Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa, Honda CB350 and Benelli Imperiale 400.
Yamaha FZ-X design and styling
Yamaha FZ-X has modern-retro styling and looks familiar to XSR 150 that is available in international markets. Things that immediately grab your attention include box-type fuel tank, fork gaiters, flat seat and rear tyre hugger. FZ-X has been equipped with sleek turn indicators, digital instrument console, alloy wheels and upswept exhaust. It is expected that the motorcycle will be offered in a multitude of monotone and dual-tone colour options.
With its comfortable riding stance, FZ-X can work well for both city rides and long distance touring. It is expected to get some exclusive features that will ensure optimal ride experience in Indian conditions.

Powering Yamaha FZ-X will be the same 149 cc engine that does duty on FZ. The air-cooled, SOHC motor outputs max power of 12.4 PS at 7,250 rpm and peak torque of 13.3 Nm at 5,500 rpm. It utilizes a 5-speed, constant mesh transmission.

Other mechanical parts could also be borrowed from FZ, for example, telescopic forks at the front and 7-step adjustable monocross rear suspension. Braking apparatus could be the same as FZ, 282 mm and 220 mm disc at the front and rear, respectively. FZ is equipped with dual-channel ABS, which is also expected for FZ-X.
FZ-X has better road presence, as the motorcycle is longer, wider and taller in comparison to FZ. Yamaha FZ-X is 2020 mm long, 785 mm wide and 1115 mm tall. That’s a gain of 30mm (length), 5mm (width) and 35mm (height) over FZ. However, wheelbase of both motorcycles is the same at 1330 mm. Take a look at walkaround video below, by Auto Tech.

If Yamaha FZ-X gets good response from the market, it could inspire other manufacturers to launch similar products in 150-200cc retro motorcycle segment. While automakers in the country have been going on increasing the prices of their products due to rising input costs in recent months, Yamaha has been able to pull off something rare and amazing. The Japanese bikemaker has slashed down the prices of its quarter-litre naked streetfighters FZ25 and FZS25 by up to Rs 18,000.
Revised Prices
As per the latest price revision, FZ25 and its premium sibling FZS25 have been priced at Rs. 1,34,800 and Rs.1,39,300 (both prices ex-showroom) respectively. This makes them nearly Rs 18,000 cheaper in comparison to their previous recorded prices. The reduced prices have made the 250cc naked street racers a much more compelling offering to consider.
Despite the sharp fall in prices, Yamaha has not changed the specifications or features of the motorcycle duo. With a drastic slash in prices, FZ25 and FZS25 are a full Rs 29,000 – Rs 33,000 and Rs 32,000 – Rs 36,000 more affordable than its direct rivals Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Bajaj Dominar 250 respectively.
Going higher in the quarter-litre class of naked bikes, the Yamaha 250cc siblings are Rs 70,000 cheaper than Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 and almost Rs 80,000 cheaper than KTM 250 Duke.
Yamaha FZ25 Price Cut India – May 2021 Price List
In fact, the revised prices put them in the same price bracket as many of the 200cc naked sports commuters. For example, segment leaders such as Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (dual-channel ABS trim) are priced at Rs.1,35,742 and Rs.1,33,188 (both prices are ex-showroom). While Honda Hornet is powered by a smaller capacity engine, it is still considered to be a 200cc motorcycle with its prices pegged at Rs. 1,31,127 (ex-showroom).
No change in specs & features
Both FZ25 and FZS25 are powered by a 249cc, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine that returns an output of 20.5 bhp at 8,000rpm and 20.1Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. This unit is linked to a 5-speed gearbox.
Hardware configurations of the bike comprise front telescopic forks and a rear mono-shock which carry out suspension duties on the bike. Braking hardware consists of single disc brakes at both ends which are assisted by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
Standard features offered on the quarter-litre FZ range include an LED headlight, LED DRLs, negative LCD instrument cluster, side stand with engine cut-off switch and engine underbelly cowling. The premium FZS model benefits from additional features such as brush guards on the handle grips, a long visor and golden coloured alloy rims. More

Yamaha truly takes pride in its 155cc VVA motor as the engine now performs duties in a host of models in the company’s international lineup. Not only in motorcycles but this powertrain has also been extended to scooter offerings from Yamaha in recent times.
While the motorcycles in this range include the likes of YZF R15, MT-15 and XSR 155, the scooters powered by this motor involve Aerox 155, NMax 155 and NVX 155. This indicates the Japanese company’s faith in this reliable and peppy engine. The lineup gets more extensive with the launch of Sniper 155 and 155R in the Philippines which run on the same mill.
Styling
Starting with its styling, the new Sniper 155 has been designed in a manner that offers a sporty feel with its compact dimensions. The design is said to be inspired by the flagship YZF-R1 which makes it look sharp and sporty. The two-piece LED headlight setup is an interesting feature. It gets a low-beam unit mounted on the handlebar for better visibility at night whereas the twin-LED high beam units are placed on the front apron.
The scooter incorporates a forward-heavy faired silhouette with a short and upward angled tail section. Overall, the scooter looks stylish, agile and light and Yamaha has managed to bring the best of both worlds by offering versatile performance on race track and street respectively.
Yamaha Sniper 155
Although it has been categorised as a scooter, its riding dynamics are similar to that of a bike with footpegs instead of a floorboard. In addition, the body has been redesigned to offer a more ergonomic fit to the inner thigh.
Features on offer
Getting into features, Sniper comes equipped with all-LED lighting, a negative LCD instrument cluster and a new slip-resistant seat to offer even better grip as standard. It is also equipped with a larger 5.4-liter fuel tank. The higher-spec 155R is offered with additional gizmos such as a smart key system and a 12V power socket. Additionally, the top-spec trim gets a special material and stitching on the seat.
Mechanical Specs & Improvements
As mentioned earlier, it is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that returns an output of 17.7 bhp at 9,500rpm and 14.4 Nm of peak torque at 8,000rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual gearbox and chain final drive. Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology ensures a linear power delivery throughout the rev range. The motor is fed air by a new 4.6-liter air cleaner box.

Thanks to a revised exhaust pipe and muffler, the scooter’s power output is optimised across the rev range in addition to the reduction in noise. Suspension duties of the scooter are handled by telescopic forks at front and a swingarm suspension at rear. Braking is taken care of by telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm suspension at the rear as standard while 155R gets 2-piston front brake calipers along with a 245mm disc for better stopping power.
2021 Sniper 155 is available in three colour options namely Yellow Hornet, Race Blu and Black Raven whereas 155R is exclusively offered in Matte Titan. Both trims are offered at a price of PHP 1,14,900 (equivalent to INR 1.74 lakh) and PHP 1,20,900 (equivalent to INR 1.84 lakh). There have been some interesting developments from Yamaha in the past few weeks on both regional and international levels. In India, the Japanese bikemaker has registered the trademark FZ-X which will be a retro-style motorcycle based on the FZ series. In foreign markets, the company launched the entry-level XSR 125 in Europe.
It also revealed the upcoming mid-displacement sports bike R7 in its final production-spec form which will replace the outgoing R6 from its global portfolio. In the latest development, the Japanese bike manufacturer has filed a trademark for the name ‘Tracer’ in India.

Tracer 700 & Tracer 900
The Tracer nameplate is used by Yamaha for its mid-displacement sports tourer range and is available in 900cc and 700cc configurations. Given the surge in popularity of adventure and sports tourers in recent years, Yamaha might be planning of bringing one such machine to India even though a local patent does not guarantee a product’s launch. The flagship Tracer 900 is even retailed in select few international markets such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Both Tracer 700 and Tracer 900 share the same design and underpinnings and are essentially road-biased tourers. Like typically tourer motorcycles, Tracer comes with a tall stance, a semi-faired body with a large windscreen, handguards, split seats, an MT-15-like fuel tank, contrast coloured rims, a raised tail section with split grab rails and twin exhaust pipes. It is also expected to ride on alloy wheels shod by dual-purpose tyres.
Yamaha Tracer
First Probability
The first most likely probability is that Yamaha brings the flagship Tracer 900 to our shores as a fully imported CBU product. This motorcycle would be powered by an 847cc liquid-cooled, inline three-cylinder engine that pumps out 113.45 bhp at 10000 rpm and a peak torque of 87.5 Nm at 8500 rpm. This unit is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The tourer comes equipped with features such as a TFT instrument cluster, all LED lights, a slipper clutch, cruise control, an adjustable windscreen and three-step traction control. If launched in India, this iteration of Tracer would compete against the likes of Ducati Multistrada 950 S and Triumph Tiger 850 Sport/900.
Second Probability
The other possibility is Yamaha introduce a sub-400cc entry-level tourer and brand it as Tracer. In this case, the 250cc motor from FZ25 and MT-25 would be an ideal choice for a powertrain.
This motor is capable of generating an output of 20.5 bhp at 8,000rpm and 20.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. If this version gets a nod, it will lock its horns with other entry-level adventure tourers such as Royal Enfield Himalayan, KTM 250 Adventure, 390 Adventure, BMW 310 GS and Hero Xpulse 200. More

A total of 37,318 units were sold in domestic markets in April 21, down 19.30 percent as against 46,241 units sold in March 21. Exports on the other hand dipped 35.23 percent with shipments to the tune of 21,558 units in April 21, as against 33,284 units shipped in March 21.
As with every other automaker in India, the adverse impact of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic affected sales badly, and Yamaha Motor India was no exception. Other two wheeler makers such as Hero, Bajaj, Suzuki TVS, and Royal Enfield were able to limit the impact of the pandemic by capitalizing on exports but that was not the case for Yamaha that noted de-growth both in terms of domestic sales and exports.
Yamaha Domestic Sales April 21
Taking domestic sales into account, wherein each model in the company lineup posted de-growth, the company saw its FZ motorcycle in the lead. Sales for April 21 stood at 12,298 units and was the only model to record sales past the 10,000 unit mark. March sales had stood at 16,563 units relating to a MoM de-growth of 25.75 percent.
Yamaha is in the process of expanding its FZ range with a new FZ-X model. This neo retro styled model is positioned as an entry level retro motorcycle, with launch set for the coming months.
Yamaha Sales, Exports Breakup – April 2021
At No.3 was the Yamaha R15 with domestic sales at 6,022 units, down 13.82 percent over 6,988 units sold in March 21. Last month, Yamaha launched the R15 V3 with a new paint scheme for the Indian market and it is now presented in four colours of Metallic Red, Racing Blue, Thunder Grey and Dark Knight.
Lower down the order was the Yamaha MT15 at No.4 with sales of 5,692 units, down from 6,472 units sold in March 21 while it was closely followed by the Fascino, of which 5,612 units were sold in April 21, a MoM de-growth of 27.34 percent as against 7,724 units sold in March 21. Of the FZ25 bike, only 182 units were sold in domestic markets.
Yamaha Exports April 21
Shipments to global markets also suffered in terms of MoM figures. Like in domestic markets, the Yamaha FZ and RayZR also found top spots on the export list though both suffered de-growth. FZ exports dipped 43.55 percent MoM to 7,376 units while RayZR exports fell 12.77 percent to 4,796 units.
Yamaha SZ and Saluto found more preference in global markets with the Saluto reporting significant growth of 603.85 percent to 1,830 units in April 21, a steep increase over 20 units shipped in March 21.
Yamaha Cruz, FZ-25, Saluto RX and R15 each suffered lower MoM exports while Yamaha MT15 and Fascino again posted positive export figures. MT15 exports increased from 240 units to 280 units MoM while Fascino saw a 48.15 percent increase to 120 units in April 21 as against 81 units exported in March 21.
Apart from making a global reveal for the YZF-R7, Yamaha has also revealed the 2022 Zuma 125 off-road scooter with feature and mechanical updates, but exclusively for global markets with launch in India not on the cards. More
