    2023 Yamaha XSR125, R125, MT125 Debuts – New Updates

    The 125cc single-cylinder screamer with 15 PS and 11.5 Nm of torque is the common powertrain between Yamaha XSR125, R125 & MT1252023 Yamaha XSR125Despite the advent of premium 125cc motorcycles in India, the segment hasn’t caught on like one would have liked. No matter what tech they come equipped with, the smaller displacement figure is what is off-putting for many. That said, smaller engines weigh less and are very lively on a racetrack.For enthusiasts and novice racers, the 125cc motorcycle segment caters most of their needs. Hence sporty 125cc products exist. At Yamaha’s booth in Osaka International Motor Show, there were three 125cc motorcycles showcased. These are XSR125 Cafe Racer style motorcycle, YZF-R125 and MT-125.2023 Yamaha XSR1252023 Yamaha XSR125 Showcased – New featuresWe have similar styled products as YZF-R125 and MT-125 vehicles in the form of YZF-R15 V4 and MT-15 respectively. Hence, the XSR125 comes off as the most interesting product among this trio. Underneath its new Cafe Racer styled bodywork, it appears to be underpinned by the same frame as that of MT-125. Albeit, with a different subframe.We have a fairly handsome cowl around its headlight which neatly flows into its handlebars. There are minimal body panels below a teardrop-shaped old-school fuel tank. It is less aggressive than R125 and MT-125 and gets scrambler-ish appeal. This is reflected in matte-black chunky exhaust can with a perforated heat guard.2023 Yamaha XSR125There is a stitched single-seat, an underbelly bash plate, and block pattern tyres that round off its scrambler appeal. Headlight and tail lights are round, giving it a neo-retro vibe. It gets USD front forks finished in Black, while a mono-shock unit suspends rear.2023 Yamaha MT1252023 Yamaha YZF-R125, MT-125 Get exciting new updatesWhere design is concerned, 2023 Yamaha R125 and MT125 are similar to the R15 and MT15 that are on sale in India. Pound-to-pound, these are identical to their 150cc counterparts, except for their powertrains. They get the same frame, body panels, and everything. In India, Yamaha only offered USD front forks with MT-15 with Ver 2.0 and with R15, on V4.Both YZF-R125 and MT-125 showcased at Yamaha’s pavilion at Osaka Motor Show, get USD front forks finished in gold, unlike XSR125. Also special to these is an aftermarket full-system Akrapovic exhaust system, which is not offered in India even as an option. These particular motorcycles were also showcased with adjustable clutch and brake levers too.2023 Yamaha R125The Osaka Auto Messe is an annual automotive show since 1997, held at Intex Osaka in Osaka, Japan. All three Yamaha motorcycles are powered by the same 125cc single-cylinder engine with a 4V head that kicks out 15 PS of power and 11.5 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. They are donning a steel delta box suspended by 41mm USD front forks and a rear mono-shock. At the rear, we get a 140-section fat tyre as well.In India, the sporty and premium 125cc segment is not very hot. In fact, this segment currently favours budget commuter motorcycles with a ton of features, perfectly represented by something like TVS Raider 125.     Yamaha India Sales Feb 2023 – R15, MT15, RayZR, Fascino, FZ

    Yamaha YoY sales grew in domestic markets but fell MoM while exports suffered a YoY and MoM de-growth2023 Yamaha R15Yamaha sales in domestic markets increased by 13.15 percent YoY in Feb 2023. Sales which had stood at 34,817 units in Feb 2022 improved to 39,397 units in the past month. However, on a MoM sales, sales dipped by 0.73 percent from 39,688 units sold in Jan 2023.Yamaha Domestic Sales Feb 2023Yamaha FZ was the most sold model in domestic markets in Feb 2023. Sales improved by 28.87 percent YoY and 34.63 percent MoM to 17,262 units. There were 13,395 units and 12,822 units sold in Feb 2022 and Jan 2023 respectively. The FZ which commanded a 43.82 percent share in Feb 2023 saw an increase from 32.31 share held in Jan 2023.Yamaha India Sales and Exports Feb 2023 vs Feb 2022 – YoY comparisonThe Yamaha R15 also saw a YoY growth of 20.17 percent to 7,697 units in Feb 2023 from 6,405 units sold in Feb 2022 while MoM sales dipped by 2.88 percent from 7,925 units sold in Jan 2022. MT15 sales were at 6,132 units in the past month with a MoM de-growth of 29.82 percent from 8,738 units sold in Jan 2023.Every other model on the company portfolio has posted a YoY and MoM de-growth. RayZR sales dipped 42.67 percent YoY and 6.83 percent MoM to 4,790 units in Feb 2023 while Fascino sales fell 47.07 percent YoY and 15.98 percent MoM to 3,396 units. YoY and MoM de-growth was also reported for the Yamaha FZ25 down by 51.22 percent YoY to 120 units from 246 units sold in Feb 2022 while MoM sales fell by 88.24 percent as against 1,020 units sold in Jan 2023.Yamaha India Domestic Sales % Share Feb 2023Yamaha Exports Feb 2023Exports finished in the red in Feb 2023 with a 28.18 percent YoY de-growth to 15,694 units, down from 22,161 units sold in Feb 2022. MoM sales also ended in the negative, down 13.84 percent from 18,215 units sold in Jan 2023.Yamaha India Exports % Share Feb 2023In export markets as well, it was the Yamaha FZ that commanded the most attention despite YoY and MoM de-growth. Sales of the FZ stood at 7,110 units in the past month, down 29.88 percent from 10,140 units shipped in Feb 2022. MoM exports fell 18.80 percent from 8,756 units sold in Jan 2023. Share percentage dipped to 45.30 percent in Feb 2023 from 48.07 percent held in Jan 2023.At No. 2 on the export list was Yamaha Saluto with 368.87 percent YoY growth but 0.63 percent Mom decline. Exports were at 2,832 units last month. While 2,850 units had been exported in Jan 2023. More positive results were seen for the Saluto RX which improved YoY by 1461.11 percent and MoM by 45.85 percent to 1,686. This was against 108 units exported in Feb 2022 and 1,156 units exported in Jan 2023.Yamaha India Sales and Exports Feb 2023 vs Jan 2023 – MoM comparisonExports of Yamaha MT-15 improved 1625 percent YoY to 1,380 units from just 80 units exported in Feb 2022. Ray ZR exports fell 34.45 percent YoY and 17.21 percent MoM to 1,212 units while FZ 25 suffered a 79.51 percent YoY and 57.14 percent MoM de-growth to 552 units. This took the share percentage down to 3.52 percent from 7.07 percent MoM.Lower down the list was the SZ with 524 units shipped in the past month, down 21.56 percent YoY and 17.61 percent MoM. There were also 398 units of the Yamaha R15 shipped last month, a 40.06 percent and 21.65 percent YoY and MoM de-growth respectively.     Yamaha has updated their motorcycle and scooter range to meet the new BS6 Phase 2 normsNew Yamaha FZ V4.0Yamaha India has done well in domestic markets reporting a 9.80 percent YoY and 31.60 percent MoM growth. However, exports have dipped YoY and MoM by 7.95 percent and 18.20 percent respectively. Yamaha domestic sales stood at 39,688 units in Jan 2023. This was a 9.80 percent YoY growth over 36,146 units sold in Jan 2022. MoM sales also improved by 31.60 percent from 30,157 units sold in Dec 2022.Yamaha Sales Jan 2023With FZ series once again in the lead after falling to No. 3 in Dec 2022, sales stood at 12,822 units last month, down 18.51 percent YoY from 15,734 units sold in Jan 2022. It was a MoM growth of 110.09 percent when compared to 6,103 units sold in Dec 2022. Share improved to 32.31 percent in the past month from 20.24 percent held in Dec 2022.Yamaha MT15 was at No. 2 with 8,738 units sold in Jan 2023 up 51300 percent over just 17 units sold in Jan 2022. It was also a 169.11 percent MoM growth from 3,247 units sold in Dec 2022. Up next was the R15 with sales of 7,925 units in the past month, up 28.95 percent when compared to 6,146 units sold in Jan 2022. It was a MoM growth of 16.08 percent from 6,827 units sold in Dec 2022.At No. 4 was the Yamaha RayZR with sales de-growth both on YoY and MoM basis. It was down 26.87 percent to 5,141 units in Jan 2023 from 7,030 units sold in Jan 2022 while in Dec 2022 sales had stood at 9,713 units relating to a 47.07 percent MoM dip in demand.Yamaha India Sales Jan 2023 vs Jan 2022 – YoYYamaha Fascino sales fell 35.03 percent YoY to 4,042 units in Jan 2023 while there had been 6,221 units sold in Jan 2022. MoM sales also fell 5.25 percent over 4,266 units sold in Dec 2022. This took share percent down to 10.18 in the past month from 14.15 percent held in Dec 2022. FZ25 has been doing well in terms of sales reporting a2.20 percent YoY growth to 1,020 units in Jan 2023 while MoM sales improved 101900 percent from just 1 units sold in Dec 2022.Yamaha Exports Jan 2023In export markets, sales dipped 7.95 percent YoY to 18,215 units in the past month from 19,788 units shipped in Jan 2022. MoM exports were also in the red down by 18.20 percent from 22,269 units sold in Dec 2022. Here also it was the Yamaha FZ that led the sales charts despite a YoY and MoM de-growth. Sales stood at 8,756 units in the past month.Sales of the Saluto were more positive with a 375 percent YoY growth to 2,850 units while MoM exports improved by 33.18 percent. It also improved sales for the MT15 to 1,502 units in Jan 2023 relating to a 838.75 percent YoY and 525.83 percent MoM improvement in exports.Yamaha India Sales Jan 2023 vs Dec 2022 – MoMThe export list also included RayZR (1,464 units), FZ25 (1,288 units) and Saluto RX(1,156 units). Saluto RX exports dipped MoM by 75.60 percent as there had been 4,738 units shipped in Dec 2022. Thereafter, exports of all other models on this list remained low. After Yamaha launched its updated motorcycle line, now it is the turn of its scooters. Today, they have announced the launch of 2023 Fascino and RayZR.In Yamaha’s 125cc scooter lineup, we get two offerings, Fascino and RayZR. Both are polar opposite where design is concerned. Fascino shoots for a neo-retro vibe, while RayZR shoots for a sporty appeal. Both of them are based on similar chassis and are powered by the same 125cc engine, which is now RDE compliant.2023 Yamaha 125cc ScootersFor 2023 scooters, Yamaha offers new colours and OBD-II diagnostics compliance. The 125cc single-cylinder engine mild hybrid system has been reworked to emit a lower amount of emissions. 2023 Fascino gets all-new Dark Matt Blue colour while RayZR Hybrid gets two new attractive colours – Matte Black & Light Grey VermillionCommon features between the two are LED headlights, LED tail lights, a fully digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, front telescopic suspension, and a rear single-sided shock absorber. Both scooters get a 12” front alloy wheel with a disc brake option and a 10” rear alloy wheel with a drum brake. Rear features a 110-section tyre with both, but RayZR gets block pattern tyres.2023 Yamaha RayZRDimensionally, both Fascino and RayZR are the same as before. With this mild hybrid system, Yamaha claims best-in-segment fuel efficiency figures of up to 60 km/l too.     New Yamaha FZS V4.0 Arrives At Dealer Showroom – Walkaround

    With a price tag of Rs. 1,27,400 (ex-sh), 2023 Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0 competes with Xtreme 160R, Apache RTR 160 4V and Pulsar N160New Yamaha FZS V4.0The FZ lineup acts as an entry-level portal into Yamaha’s motorcycle lineup. Thanks to this, it is the highest-selling Yamaha motorcycle in India. Yamaha has now updated FZ-S FI for 2023 and now bears Ver 4.0 tag. There are considerable changes to the outgoing model.Price increment associated with this update is Rs. 3,000. New Yamaha FZS V4.0 is priced from Rs. 1,27,400, as opposed to Rs. 1,24,400 for the outgoing model (both prices ex-sh). Price increment seems to be justified considering everything new with Ver 4.0. Along with new FZS, Yamaha also launched updated versions of FZ-X, R15 V4 and MT-15.2023 Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0First batch of the new FZ-S has started to arrive at dealer showrooms. Thanks to K2K Motovlogs we now have a detailed walkaround of 2023 Yamaha FZ-S. Main change that is immediately visible is its front headlight design. Ver 4.0 new face gets twin LED DRLs flanking the main LED headlight unit. These new DRLs somewhat remind me of the red tattoo on Kratos’ face in the God Of War video game.We would have liked it if Yamaha got rid of the chrome element surrounding its fake air vent on its tank shrouds. This still is the only sour point on an otherwise brilliant-looking motorcycle. Nonetheless, it lends FZ-S Ver 4.0 a strong character.[embedded content][embedded content]Other changes include a larger instrument console. This is the same unit as found on Yamaha MT-15. New FZS has a larger LCD display that gets Bluetooth connectivity. It displays phone battery level, SMS alerts and call alerts on the console. No turn-by-turn navigation, though.LED turn indicators are now offered as standard. Earlier, it was offered only as a paid accessory. Even though the braking hardware is kept similar to the outgoing model, TCS has been added with Ver 4.0. This is a welcome addition to Yamaha’s entry-level motorcycle. Taking on corners will be even more inspiring than before. Dual-channel ABS is still not offered.Specs & RivalsWith the new model, Yamaha has integrated OBD-II diagnostics as well. The 149cc single-cylinder engine is BS6 phase II compliant, meeting RDE norms. Along with that, this engine is E20 compliant as well. Meaning, it is capable of running on Ethanol blends up to 20%.Mechanically, there are no changes as of FZ-S Ver 4.0. It still makes 12.4 PS of power and 13.3 Nm of torque. Engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This is a fairly fuel-efficient 150cc motorcycle. Yamaha is offering the same three shades that it used to offer with FZ-S ver 3.0.     For 2023 model year, Yamaha Tricity range is kept identical mechanically – The 155cc model still makes just 14.88 bhp and 14 Nm2023 Yamaha Tricity 125cc, 155ccTrikes are not very common in India. That said, they are a common sight in ASEAN markets and Europe, where scooter manufacturers have had their fair share of products in this segment. Newest of the bunch are Yamaha’s 2023 model range of Tricity 125 and 155 scooters, which are now launched in Japan.Both trikes are hard to set apart where design is concerned. A similar design trait is found with some Yamaha motorcycle ranges too. Launched at JPY 4,95,000 (approx Rs. 3.1 lakh) for Tricity 125 and JPY 5,56,000 (approx Rs. 3.54 lakh) for Tricity 155. These prices don’t include taxes.2023 Yamaha Tricity 125cc, 155ccGiven the premium pricing strategy, they wouldn’t be viable options for the price sensitive Indian market. Yamaha is not likely to consider bringing them to our shores anytime soon. These pose lucrative options for people to consider in markets where trikes are popular.For the money, there is a lot that one will get with the 2023 Yamaha Tricity range. For starters, both scooters are large in size and have a huge road presence. Something which conventional scooters lack. Yamaha has chosen an interesting design language for the Tricity scooter range.2023 Yamaha Tricity 125cc, 155ccThe flowing design with 2023 Yamaha Tricity seems to be masking the heft quite well. Overall looks can be termed sporty, backed by conscious design choices. There is a large LED headlight unit at front flanked by turn indicators, along with a fairly tall windscreen covering its instrument console. The overall front fascia is mean and wouldn’t look out of place on a top-speed chasing superbike.The powertrains are less superbike-y. In Yamaha’s global portfolio, three are three scooters under the Tricity range. A 125cc, a 155cc and a 300cc model. Tricity 125 makes 12.06 bhp and 11.02 Nm from its liquid-cooled engine. Even though Tricity 155 uses the same 155cc 4V engine as R15 V4, it is detuned to make just 14.88 bhp and 14 Nm.Popularity Of Yamaha’s Tricity RangeYamaha Tricity range offers two 14” alloy wheels at front and a 13” alloy wheel at the rear. Front wheels are tiltable, lending them cornering abilities. All wheels get disc brakes and suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic front forks and dual shockers at the rear. Features include smartphone connectivity, a smart key with keyless operation, and a lot more.Ever since the global launch of Tricity range in 2014, Yamaha has not seen much success. Even with the grand re-introduction in 2019, Yamaha Tricity range hasn’t made a significant dent in ASEAN and JDM markets. Europe is a slightly different story, though. Tricity 125 is the OG of the bunch. Tricity 300 was introduced in 2019. Whereas Tricity 155 was first showcased at 2016 Osaka Motorcycle Show.
