Bajaj Chetak Vs TVS iQube Electric Scooter Sales Feb 2021

Bajaj Chetak Electric ScooterFor customers who prefer established brands, choices are fairly limited to Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube
Electric two-wheeler segment in India has been witnessing frantic activity in recent times, as more than a dozen startups have launched their products in the market. However, trusting an entirely new player can be a bit tough for consumers. This is why many people prefer to go with established brands. In that case, one can choose either Chetak or iQube.
Chetak vs. iQube February 2021 sales
In February 2021, Bajaj Chetak sales stood at 150 units. In comparison, TVS iQube sold a total of 203 units. If we look at YoY growth, Chetak has gained 50%, as compared to 100 units sold in February last year. iQube has much higher percentage YoY growth at 434.21%. iQube sales in February last year were just 38 units.
This is the second consecutive month when iQube sales are higher than Chetak. It’s not due to any reduction in demand for Chetak, but only because Bajaj has been facing problems on the supply side. As reported earlier, there is currently a global shortage of semiconductors. Chetak utilizes a number of imported components and their short supply has resulted in production constraints.
Bajaj Chetak has quite a healthy order book of more than 1,500 units. Also, Chetak still leads in cumulative sales. From April 2020 to February 2021, Chetak’s cumulative sales are at 1305 units. In comparison, iQube cumulative sales are 755 units during the same period.
Bajaj Chetak vs TVS iQube Sales – Feb 2021
It is likely that the supply situation has improved for Bajaj since last month. That’s why we can see a big jump in MoM sales in February, as compared to 30 units sold in January.
TVS iQube on the other hand has negative MoM growth, as compared to 211 units sold in January. However, it’s good to see that the number is still above the 200 mark.

EV plans of other two-wheeler manufacturers
Other two wheeler manufacturers such as Hero MotoCorp, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha are yet to enter this space. Most of these companies are planning to enter the electric two-wheeler segment, but a definitive timeline is not available as of now. Surprisingly, newcomers like Ola Electric are moving much faster in this segment.
As may be recalled, Ola is currently building the world’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. When complete, the state-of-the-art facility will have production capacity of 10 million units per annum. It is possible that Ola’s ambitious move may provide the right motivation to other two-wheeler manufacturers to speed up their EV plans. More

2021 TVS Apache 160 Updated – More Torque, Less Weight

    2021 TVS Apache 160
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V locks its horns with Hero Xtreme 160R and Bajaj Pulsar NS160

TVS currently seems to be on a spree to update its Apache series of sporty commuter motorcycles. After the updated 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V, the Hosur-based bikemaker has now launched the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V. Available in two variants- Drum brake and Disc brake variants, the latest iteration of the bike has been priced at Rs 1.07 lakh and Rs 1.10 lakh respectively (both prices ex-showroom).
This means there is no increase in prices when compared to the older model. It will be offered in three colour schemes namely- Racing Red, Knight Black and Metallic Blue. Apart from a handful of cosmetic updates it also gets a slight tweak in its powertrain output as well.
TVS Apache Prices March 2021 (Ex-Delhi)
    Cosmetic Updates
The naked streetfighter now comes with an all-new dual-tone seat with a carbon fiber-styled pattern. It has also managed to shed 2 kilos and now tips the weighing scales at 147 kg for the disc brake variant, while the drum brake variant weighs 145 kg.
The updated RTR 160 4V comes with a reshaped LED headlamp with claw-styled position lamps that add to its overall premium appeal. The cosmetic changes are limited to these updates only. Take a look at the official TVC of new Apache 160 below.
    [embedded content]
    Boost in Output
However, the manufacturer has also managed to alter the output from its motor. The updated naked motorcycle is powered by a 159.7 cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled engine that now kicks out 17 bhp at 9250 rpm and 14.73 Nm torque at 7250 rpm.
This is a bump of 1 bhp and 1 Nm which makes it the most powerful bike in its segment. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bump in the motor’s output plus the reduction in its weight means an increase in power to weight ratio and will be interesting to see the impact created in its riding experience.
On the occasion of the launch, Meghashyam Dighole, Head – (Marketing) Premium Motorcycles, TVS Motor Company, said, “The new 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V offers best-in-class performance with enhanced power to weight ratio and increased torque, offering our customers better-riding experiences along with advanced technologies.”
    Features on offer
The equipment list on the bike has not been altered as it continues to offer the same set of features including a fully digital instrument panel compatible with SmartXconnect technology. This feature allows riders to connect their smartphones with the instrument console for functionalities such as turn-by-turn navigation and phone-related operations. It also gets a ‘feather touch’ start for increased convenience. Apache RTR 160 4V competes against Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and Hero Xtreme 160R. More

TVS iQube Sales Higher Than Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter – For 1st Time

    Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter
Electric two-wheeler sales are rising, but are still a small fraction of their petrol powered counterparts

With growing consumer interest in electric two-wheelers, a number of startups and tech companies have launched their products in the market. Some of the leading companies in this segment include the likes of Hero Electric, Okinawa, Ampere, Ather and Revolt. However, for folks who prefer buying from established auto companies, the options are fairly limited to Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube.
Bajaj Chetak vs. TVS iQube Jan 2021 sales
Both Chetak and iQube were launched last year in January. While Chetak was launched in Pune, iQube was launched in Bengaluru. Bajaj later introduced Chetak in Bengaluru, whereas iQube has expanded operations to Delhi.
In terms of overall sales, Chetak currently has the lead. However, in monthly sales, iQube was ahead in December 2020 and January 2021. In January, Chetak sales were 30 units as compared to 211 units of iQube. These numbers may seem positive for iQube, but in reality, Chetak’s low sales in recent months is due to production constraints and not due to lack of demand.
As may be recalled, auto companies are currently facing shortage of semiconductors at the global level. A number of parts used in Chetak are imported, which is why the company hasn’t been able to meet its production timelines. Bajaj currently has pending orders for Chetak in access of 1,500 units. Due to the backlog and production constraints, Bajaj is currently not taking fresh bookings for Chetak.
