    Triumph Trident three-cylinder roadster with a neo-classic appeal was first teased in the form of a design prototype in August 2020. Last month, the British motorcycle marque went on to reveal the production-spec prototype swathed in camouflage.

    Our design specialist Pratyush Rout has envisioned the classic paint work that the Triumph Trident may have to give you a complete picture before the motorcycle makes its debut on 30th of October. As you can see, plastic knee padding and matte finish would go very well with the motorcycle’s design.

    The fuel tank forms the major part of bodywork as the front fender, tailpiece and side panels adopt a minimalist approach. With a circular LED headlamp and a single-pod digital dashboard, the Triumph Trident looks simple yet elegant.
    Specifications
    Triumph Motorcycles did not reveal much about its upcoming motorcycle except that it will be powered by a three-cylinder engine, and it will be the most affordable product in the company’s Triple family. So, it is reasonable to assume that it will be cheaper than the entry-level Street Triple.

    The tubular chassis appears to be simpler than the new Street Triple’s aluminium frame. The upside-down front telescopic fork and rear monoshock seem to be borrowed by the Street Triple S but the twin front discs with Nissin twin-piston calipers and rear disc with Nissin single-piston caliper are cost effective alternatives. The swing arm too seems to be simpler than the unit seen on the Street Triple range.
    Coming to the engine, it is being reported that the Triumph Trident will not be employing the latest Street Triple range’s 765 cc motor. The shape of the crankcase is identical to that of the now-defunct 675 cc unit of the previous Street Triple but some reports suggest that the Trident’s mill will displace around 660 cc. We will know for sure in a under a week.
    The power output is not likely to exceed 94 hp (limited by European A2 regulations) so that the engine can be restricted to 47 hp to cater to the European A2 license holders. Triumph has hinted that the engine will offer ample torque, meaning the motorcycle will have a sedate character.
    Features
    The prototypes reveal that the Triumph Trident will be equipped with LED headlamps and a fully digital dashboard. One can expect the roadster to be equipped with traction control although an IMU-supported system is unlikely. We also expect the motorcycle to get riding modes.     Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the Rocket 3 GT at a price of Rs 18.4 lakh, ex-sh. The motorcycle was launched last year at various international markets. The Rocket 3 and 3 GT holds the unique distinction of being the largest displacement production motorcycle in the world
    Performance

    The Rocket 3 GT is powered by a humongous 2500cc which produces a power of 165 horses at 6000rpm and a peak torque of massive 221 Nm at 4000rpm. When compared to the previous generation Rocket 3 GT, this new engine features an altered lubrication system, crankcase and balance shafts. This engine is coupled with a 6-speed transmission.
    Triumph offers two variants of this model, R and GT. The R is a roadster variant with a more aggressive riding stance with a sportier handlebar whereas the GT is a more of a cruiser with a touring style handlebar. It also gets a backrest for the pillion seats which enhance the touring look.

    The muscular sculpted fuel tank enhances the sporty feel of the bike. It gets its signature dual-LED headlamp unit with integrated DRLs and maker’s logo inside. The Rocket 3 GT is offered in two colours- Phantom Black and Storm Gray with silver ice.
    Dynamics
    In terms of dynamics, it gets a lightweight aluminium cradle which reduces its weight by 40kg. Suspension duties are carried out by a 47mm inverted fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear which are fully adjustable. Anchoring duties are taken care of by 320mm disc brakes assisted by Brembo callipers. It gets a 17-inch wheel with 150/80 profile tyre at front and a 16-inch wheel with 240/50 profile tyre at rear.

    When it comes to features, the list is exhaustive. Triumph has thrown in every high-tech electronic available to its flagship offering. It comes with Triumph’s second generation TFT screen and keyless ignition. It also gets four riding modes that adjust the throttle response accordingly and a traction control system. Some other highlights include Google navigation, clutchless shift, MyTriumph connectivity app and cruise control among many others.

    Triumph Motorcycles has debuted the final design prototype of the upcoming Trident retro-classic roadster that is scheduled to be launched next year. Showcased at the London Design Museum, the motorcycle’s design is described as a ‘contemporary take of Triumph’s style and attitude‘.
    2021 Triumph Trident – market positioning

    The 2021 Triumph Trident is expected to be positioned as the most affordable product belonging to the manufacturer’s famous triple-cylinder family of motorcycles. It can be clearly seen that the final design prototype shares quite a lot of components with the Street Triple including the most critical one – the engine.
    Design
    Triumph Motorcycles says that the 2021 Trident project took its Hinckley-based design team 4 years to develop. The motorcycle has design inputs from popular Italian designer Rodolfo Frascoli who also contributed to the recently introduced Tiger 900.

    The roadster features a minimalist, uncluttered design characterized by a muscular fuel tank with accentuated knee indents, cantilevered tailpiece devoid of bodywork, circular headlamp (appears to be an LED unit), and a simple digital instrument console. The motorcycle offers a natural upright riding stance typical for a retro-classic roadster.
    Chassis and engine
    Triumph has not revealed detailed technical specifications but has confirmed that the motorcycle will be powered by a triple-cylinder motor. We expect the 2021 Triumph Trident to borrow the Street Triple R’s 765 cc liquid-cooled engine. On board the street fighter, the motor is tuned to produce 118 hp and 77 Nm of torque. The top-end RS variant has 123 hp and 79 Nm of torque on tap. Triumph may tweak the engine and 6-speed gearbox to suit the new Trident’s relaxed character. The 47 hp 660 cc in-line three-cylinder engine aimed at European A2 license holders could also be on the cards.

    Like its twin-eyed sibling, the 2021 Triumph Trident employs twin-spar aluminium frame. While the prototype features a different rear sub-frame, the die-cast aluminium swing arm has been carried forward from the Street Triple. The USD front forks and rear monoshock, alloy wheels, tyres and braking system are also common to both motorcycles.
    Launch
    The 2021 Triumph Trident is set to hit the showrooms in Europe in Spring 2021. We can expect the roadster to be introduced in India a few months after its international debut. It is likely to be the most affordable Triumph product until the first product out of Triumph-Bajaj gets ready in 2022 with a price tag of around INR 2 lakh.     Recently, the British manufacturer launched the BS6 avatars of the Bonneville Street Twin and Speedmaster. The updated 2020MY Street Twin now comes at a starting price of Rs 7.45 lakh ex-showroom, Rs 13,000 premium over its BS4 predecessor. Apart from the mandatory emission update, there is no major change in the modern classic. The motorcycle continues to derive power from a 900cc parallel-twin motor. It generates 65bhp and 80Nm of torque.
    Transmission duties are carried by a 5-speed gearbox. It is offered in three colour schemes: Jet Black, Korosi Red and Matte Ironstone. While the first one is offered at the base price, the rest are retailed at Rs 7.58 lakh ex-showroom. The entry-level ‘Bonnie’, Street Twin is also the most affordable product from Triumph Motorcycles India.
    Key features equipped on the Street Twin are dual-channel ABS, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), TCS (Traction Control System), single-pod semi-digital instrument console, torque-assist clutch, riding modes (Road & Rain), etc. It has a dry weight of 198 kg and carries a 12-litre fuel tank.
    BS6 Bonneville Speedmaster
    The Triumph Speedmaster, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 11.33 lakh ex-showroom. Interestingly though, this model has not seen any price hike form its phased-out BS4 counterpart. The 2020MY Bonneville Speedmaster is powered by a 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that cranks up 77bhp of power and 106 Nm of torque.     Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the entry-level Street Twin modern classic in 2020MY BS6 format. Ex-showroom prices start at Rs 7.45 lakh and increase by about Rs 13,000 depending on colour. There are three colour choices: Jet Black (no extra cost), Matte Ironstone and Korosi Red.

    It was only recently that the British motorcycle manufacturer launched the 2020MY BS6-compliant Street Triple R inline-3 naked sports motorcycle with a price tag of Rs 8.84 lakh ex-showroom. The company has already updated its other premium Bonneville modern classic models such as the T100, T120 and Speedmaster to BS6 specifications, alongside a few improvements in terms of aesthetics, equipment and performance.
    The Triumph Street Twin is one of the most affordable ‘premium’ twin-cylinder street bikes on the Indian market. Harley-Davidson’s Street 750, a popular alternative to the Street Twin, currently comes at an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 5.34 lakh. However, this could see a major hike since the American motorcycle maker plans to wind up local production at its Bawal (Haryana) manufacturing facility.

    Notable features
    Key highlights of the new Street Twin include 4-piston Brembo front brake (310mm single disc; 220mm Nissin 2-piston disc at the back), torque-assist clutch, single-pod semi-digital instrument console, riding modes (Road & Rain), TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), dual-channel ABS, switchable TCS (Traction Control System), etc. When it comes to styling, the motorcycle gives complete justice to its ‘modern classic’ tag.
    Triumph Motorcycles’ entry-level choice rides on 100/90R18 (F) and 150/70R17 (R) tyres shod on cast aluminium alloy wheels. The motorcycle is built on a tubular steel cradle chassis, supported by 41mm forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Both offer 120mm of suspension travel.

    It weighs 198kg dry and packs a 12-litre fuel tank. At a seat height of 760mm, the Street Twin is one of the best accessible premium middleweights for beginners.

    Powering the 2020MY Indian-spec Triumph Street Twin is a 900cc liquid-cooled SOHC parallel-twin engine. It churns out 65bhp @ 7,500rpm and 80Nm @ 3,700 while mated to a 5-speed transmission. Compared to the previous version, the brushed dual exhaust system has undergone some modifications to meet BS6 emission norms.

    Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the all-new 2020MY Street Triple R BS6 at a starting price of Rs 8.84 lakh ex-showroom. The British marque has already launched the higher BS6-compliant Triumph Street Triple RS in the country, at a starting price of Rs 11.13 lakh ex-showroom. The ‘R’ is essentially a mid-spec ‘RS’. Triumph Motorcycles India claims that its latest offering is much “more accessible and affordable than before”.

    Shoeb Farooq, Business Head of Triumph Motorcycles India, states that the Indian motorcycle market’s ‘premium middleweight segment’ is growing at a rapid pace and is becoming increasingly competitive. He believes that the new Street Triple R would be a strong contestant in this genre as well as a perfect option for riders wanting an agile sportsbike with “racing DNA”. Its power plant is derived from the proven Triumph Moto2 portfolio. Primary rivals include the KTM 790 Duke, Kawasaki Z900, Yamaha MT-09 and BMW F 900 R.
    Changes & improvements
    For its 2020 model year, the Indian-spec Triumph Street Triple R features a refreshed bodywork complete with new flyscreen, full-LED twin headlamps, mirrors, air intake, exhaust and tail section. The middleweight is offered in two colours: Sapphire Black and Matt Silver Ice. Diablo Red + Aluminium Silver decals, alongside red accents, stay common. It weighs about 168kg (dry) and has a fuel tank capacity of 17.4 litres.

    Braking duties are carried out by Brembo four-piston radial monobloc callipers (twin 310mm discs) at the front and a single-piston sliding unit (single 220mm disc) at the rear, which is supported by a gullwing swingarm. The motorcycle rides on Showa 41mm USD forks and a piggyback reservoir monoshock. Both suspension systems feature fully adjustable preload, compression and rebound.
    The 17-inch cast aluminium alloy wheels are shod with 120/70R17- and 180/55R17-section Diablo Rosso III tyres at the front and rear, respectively. Other notable equipment include three riding modes (Road, Rain and Sport), bidirectional quickshifter, slip & assist clutch, semi-digital instrument console, ride-by-wire, dual-channel ABS, traction control, etc.
    Furthermore, riders can choose from over 60+ OEM accessories for better styling, comfort and safety. A performance-focused Arrow exhaust system is also included on the list.

    Powering the 2020MY Triumph Street Triple R is a BS6-compliant 765cc liquid-cooled inline-three engine churning out 116bhp @ 12,000rpm and 79Nm @ 9,350rpm.
