    A camouflaged prototype Royal Enfield Hunter with some accessories was spied up close while stationary. The test mule appears to be not fully production ready but not far from it either. The latest spy shots give us a clear idea on how the motorcycle’s instrument panel looks like.

    Royal Enfield is currently working on building a strong and eclectic range of 350 cc motorcycles based on its new generation J platform. The Meteor 350 which replaced the Thunderbird was the first of many new RE’s to come. While the loyalists are eagerly waiting for the next generation Classic 350, Royal Enfield threw a surprise in the form of another retro-classic Roadster.
    The Eicher-owned two wheeler brand has registered Hunter as a trademark, leading us to believe that the new 350 cc roadster will carry this moniker. To be positioned alongside the new Classic 350 as a sportier alternative to lure younger audience, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 will feature a sleek fuel tank, circular headlamp, possibly with LED elements, single-piece seat, LED taillight and a simple tailpiece.
    Going by the prototype, the Hunter 350 is most likely to be equipped with alloy wheels and black finished engine and exhaust pipe. The prototype was wearing chrome finished headlamp cowl but we expect the final production version to feature a black unit.

    The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 employs a unique digi analog instrument console with a rectangular MID. While this particular mule does not feature an additional dial for Tripper Navigation system (Smartphone enabled turn-by-turn navigation), it is reasonable to assume the motorcycle to be offered with it at the time of launch.
    Specifications
    The Royal Enfield Hunter 350, as the spyshot shows, borrows its 349 cc air-cooled engine from the Meteor 350. Widely acclaimed for being much more refined than its predecessor, the new mill dishes out 20.2 hp and 27 Nm of torque. Gearbox is a conventional 5-speed unit.
    There is nothing particularly interesting about the suspension or braking system. The roadster employs traditional telescopic front forks covered with rubber gaiters, and twin-rear shock absorbers. Like all modern Royal Enfields, the Hunter is equipped with front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS.

    On board the Royal Enfield Hunter, the speedometer is analog and is seen with markings in kmph as well as mph. The speedo is listed till max speed of 160 kmph / 100 mph – just like the new Meteor 350. Other details like fuel level, trip meters, etc are expected to be listed in the digital MID.
    Market positioning
    With the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, the company would be aiming to fend off fresh competition like the Honda CB350. Royal Enfield’s leadership in the Indian medium displacement segment continues to be strong even during the challenging year that was 2020.
    The Classic 350 continues to be a cash cow for the brand and with the new gen model coming later this year, things are only going to get stronger. The Hunter will be playing a consolidating role.

    2021 Jawa 42 Launched – More Power, New Colours, Higher Price

    The Honda CB350 and Royal Enfield Meteor 350 set off what is turning out to be a action packed competition in the 350 cc segment. Jawa can’t afford to stay indifferent for long and hence the update.
    The 2021 Jawa 42 with quite a few updates has been launched at INR 1.84 lakh (ex-showroom). This is about Rs 12k expensive than the current Jawa 42 dual ABS variant (Rs 1.72 lakh) and Rs 21k expensive than the single ABS Jawa 42 (Rs 1.63 lakh).
    2021 Jawa 42 – What’s new?
    The first thing you notice are the alloy wheels and replacement of chrome elements with black finish. While the shiny treatment was widely preferred for retro-classic motorcycles, the customer preference seems to be shifting towards black finish which is easier to maintain and has a sportier appeal.
    The updated Jawa 42 also receives two new colour options in the form of matte red and matte black. The existing colour options have been carried forward as well. There is a new wider eccentric decal strip on the fuel tank and tailpiece.

    The 2021 Jawa 42 also comes with a range of new optional accessories including a compact windshield, headlamp grille, handlebar end-mounted rear view mirrors, white rim stripes and so on. Tyres are now tubeless.
    Specifications
    Given that Jawa Motorcycles upgraded its product portfolio to BS6 emission standards last year, it is surprising that the engine has been carried forward with changes. To recap, the Jawa 42 is powered by Mahindra Mojo-derived single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 295 cc engine which is tuned to develop 26.51 hp and 27 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 6-speed unit. The new Jawa 42 gets a more refined version of the same unit, which now delivers 0.8 hp more power.
    The retro-classic roadster continues to be equipped with regular telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorber. While both front and rear wheels are retarded by a disc each, the base version makes do with a single-channel ABS as standard. Buyers can also opt for dual-channel system for around INR 9,000 more.

    In the new colour scheme with black treatment, you can only buy the dual ABS as single ABS option is not available. Existing range of Jawa 42 will continue to be on sale as is, with the same pricing as before.
    Rivals
    The 2021 Jawa 42 will continue to lock horns with Honda H’ness CB350 and Royal Enfield Classic 350 which is due for replacement shortly. The CB350 has managed to clock 10,000 unit sales in just 3 months despite being sold only through Honda’s BigWing premium outlets whose territorial coverage is much smaller compared to Jawa’s dealership network.
    With a new CB350 RS variant scheduled to be launched next week, the model’s prospects are expected to get even brighter. So, the Jawa 42 has got its work cut out but the updates are a step in the right direction.

    Tata Nexon Electric Owner Files Complaint In Transport Dept Over Low Range

    Tata Motors has been issued with a show cause notice by the Delhi Transport Department following a complaint filed by a Delhi resident

    The complaint states that the Tata Nexon Electric failed to perform as per standard. The vehicle owner, a resident of Najafgarh, purchased the Tata Nexon EV XZ+ variant and noted that while the company claimed a range of 312 km per charge, his vehicle was not offering more than 200 kms. This was despite the fact that he complied with every advice issued by the dealer.
    The Nexon EV was purchased from an authorized company dealership in Safarjung Enclave. It was registered on 3rd Dec 2020 and it was immediately noted to fail in meeting the required range as indicated. Though the owner stringently followed all directions, there was no improvement in the range and nowhere close to 312 kms per charge.
    Complaint Filed, Show Cause Notice Issued
    A complaint was filed by the owner of the Tata Nexon EV with Delhi Transport Department and a notice has been sent to the automaker. Tata Motors has been instructed to depute a representative to attend the office of the said department on 5th Feb 2021 at 12 noon.
    The notice also adds that the Delhi Government could consider removing the subsidy offered under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020, on the Tata Nexon EV, if it is proved that this contention is proved to be true.

    Under this Policy, a purchase incentive of Rs.10,000 per kWh battery capacity is offered on the purchase of an electric 4 wheeler with a cap of Rs.1.50 lakhs. Also, the owners of the first 1000 electric cars registered in Delhi, following the issuance of the policy, would be eligible for the incentive. The Nexon EV is an approved vehicle under these conditions of the EV policy.
    Tata Motors, on their part, have taken cognizance of the show cause notice and are taking measures to address the concerns of the owner. The range of 312 kms per charge is based on certification received from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
    ARAI is an apex body to test and certify vehicles under various standard test conditions prior to the vehicles going on sale. Tests conducted by ARAI are under special and ideal conditions and hence range are always on the higher side as compared to real world conditions.
    As is also seen in the case of conventional vehicles, electric vehicle range is also derived depending on certain factors. These include use of air conditioning, individual style of driving and real world conditions present at the time the vehicle is being driven. The range is also achieved according to familiarity with the new technology and customers report a marked improvement by around 10 percent in a time frame of 4-6 weeks once they are familiar with the vehicle.

    Tata Nexon EV is the best-selling electric SUV in India and most affordable car in its segment currently commanding a market share of 63.2 percent. Launched on 28th Jan 2020, sales have touched the 3,000 unit mark in the past one year while its affordable price tag allows it compete efficiently with its rivals such as the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.

    Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) took its time to develop a Royal Enfield challenger in the form of H’ness CB350 but is now already gearing up to spawn a variant extension. The Honda CB350 Cafe Racer has been teased once again in a build up to its unveil on February 16th.

    The H’ness CB350’s simple roadster body style with minimalist styling is a perfect to spawn an array of variants to cater to different tastes. The Cafe Racer with design tweaks would be targeting younger audience with a sportier appeal.
    From what can be seen from the teasers, the upcoming variant of the medium displacement retro-classic motorcycle features a new cantilevered tailpiece with compact LED taillight and mudguard mounted license plate and indicators.
    While the regular Honda CB350 embraces chrome appointments, Cafe Racer adopts black finish for the front and rear fenders, exhaust canister, rear shock absorber springs and the front fork. The new handlebar makes for a slightly sportier riding posture to suit the Cafe Racer styling. All other elements are shared with the regular model.

    Honda has revealed a new teaser today, and also launched a dedicated web-page on their official website of Big Wing. After taking a look at the page source of this new teaser website, you will notice that the name CB350RS is seen multiple times in the site’s coding as well as in the URL.

    This indicates that the name of the CB350 based new motorcycle is likely going to be christened as CB350RS or CB 350 RS or CB350 RS. Whatever is the official name, it will be revealed on 16th Feb 2021, at the time of launch.

    The Honda CB350RS is powered by a 348 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which is expected to be carried forward without any changes. The motor produces 21 hp and 30 Nm of torque, and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The frame and suspension setup, wheels and braking system remain the same but the tyres adopt different buttons to suit the new variant’s character. To recap, the motorcycle is equipped with front and rear disc brakes with standard dual-channel ABS system.

    The digi-analog instrument panel has been retained, and just like its sibling, the Honda CB350RS Cafe Racer will sport turn-by-turn navigation, music and telephone control supported by Bluetooth connectivity, and Honda Selectable Torque Control.     The Honda CB350 RS Cafe Racer will be retailed exclusively through the brand’s BigWing premium dealership network. While this approach restricts its territorial coverage when compared to Royal Enfield motorcycles, Honda is working on significantly expanding its BigWing network across the country. Premium ownership experience is a part of the motorcycle’s appeal and BigWing goes a long way in ensuring that.
    More India-specific models on the way?
    At the time of launching the CB350, Honda hinted that a bigger thump is coming. While there are no specifics as of now, it is rumoured that a CB500 could be in the works. With heavy localization, a bigger engined Honda motorcycle with retro-classic styling would emerge as a compelling alternative to Royal Enfield’s ever-expanding twin-cylinder portfolio. More

    Triumph Motorcycle India has launched the new Tiger 850 Sport in the country replacing the base Tiger 900 in the company lineup. It is a more road focused model and gets its power from a 888cc in-line triple engine. It is priced from Rs 11.95 lakhs ex-sh. Bookings are open online, as well as at dealers for Rs 50k deposit.
    Dual Colour Options and Riding Modes
    Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will be the company’s entry-level offering in the adventure motorcycle segment. It was revealed globally in November 2020 and detailed recently on the company’s Indian website. Tiger 850 Sport will be seen in dual colour options of Graphite and Diablo Red and Graphite and Caspian Blue.
    The adventure tourer offers two riding modes namely Rain and Road. Tiger 850 Sport also gets a switchable traction control system. Underpinned by a lightweight modular frame, bolt on aluminum sub frame the new base variant weighs a total of 192 kg.
    On board features include LED lighting at the front and rear, a 5 inch full TFT screen, 19 inch front and 17 inch rear blacked out alloy wheels best suited for mild off-roading and highway rides, and dual channel ABS. The adventure tourer also sports a large fuel tank, and for better on-board ergonomics and rider comfort, a generously proportioned seat and swept back handlebars.

    Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is powered by a 888cc, liquid cooled, in-line triple engine offering 85 hp power at 8,500 rpm and 82 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6 speed unit with slip and assist clutch. This engine claims to offer smooth and linear power at lower engine speeds and across rev range.
    Suspension setup includes 45mm Marzocchi USD fork in the front and gas charged monoshock at the rear with manual preload adjustment. Braking is taken care of by Brembo Stylema system measuring 320 mm in the front and 255 mm at the rear. The entry level Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will compete against the BMW F 750 GS in its segment and with the upcoming KTM 890 Adventure that is slated to launch later this year.

    With an unprecedented rise in fuel prices and the growing electric vehicle space in India, manufacturers have found the need to update their EVs in order to pitch them as compelling offerings to customers. In line with this, MG Motor has launched updated electric crossover today.
    First launched in India about a year back, in the early parts of 2020, it was the second offering from MG in India after Hector. The new ZS EV is similar to look at and comes with no design updates, but features a host of new features, including raised ground clearance.

    Older MG ZS EV was offered same two trims of Excite and Exclusive at Rs 20.88 lakh and Rs 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom). New prices are at Rs 20.99 lakh and Rs 24.18 lakh – making it more expensive by up to Rs 60k.
    Current Powertrain Specs
    ZS EV is the only EV offering front the Chinese-owned British brand in India. Older ZS EV was equipped with a 44.5 kWh battery pack which is paired to an electric motor capable of churning out 143 bhp and a peak torque of 353 Nm.
    2021 MG ZS EV updates
    The new ZS EV 2021 Model is offered with the same specs, but the battery is new, which MG calls HT (Hi-Tech) Battery. Thanks to this new battery pack, range has increased by 66 kms. MG claims a single-charge range of 419 kms on the new ZS EV, while the older one claimed 353 kms.
    The electric crossover is offered in FWD configuration and a single-speed automatic gearbox. The battery can be juiced up from 0 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger and in 6-8 hours via a 7.4 kW AC home charger.
    Feature Updates
    In terms of features, it comes with the same set of top notch features which were already on offer. This includes 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MG’s i-Smart connected tech. The updated ZS EV will carry forward features such as a 360-degree camera, navigation system and a digital instrument cluster.

    One of the biggest update on offer is the increased ground clearance. MG ZS EV ground clearance has now been increased to 177mm. This makes the car even more capable on bad roads. Tyre aspect ratio is 215/55 wrapped around 17 inch alloys. In addition to this, MG has now launched the car in 31 cities of India.
    ZS EV currently does not have a direct rival in India, however, it competes with other electric crossovers including Hyundai Kona Electric and Tata Nexon EV. Other than this, MG is also expected to launch a petrol-powered version of ZS sometime later this year.

    2021 Suzuki Hayabusa Appears On Official Website – Ahead Of Debut Today

    2021 Suzuki Hayabusa has not been the best kept secret. From the time its first teaser was revealed a few days ago, there have been constant number of leaks on the internet. From the full hi-res promotional TVC video leak, to now the motorcycle making its appearance on Suzuki Motorcycle Australia’s official website – and all this ahead of its global debut later today.
    Suzuki Motorcycle Australia has now removed the photo from their official website, but not before it was shared on the internet. Hat tip to Siddharth for sharing the update with us before it was removed.
    The latest iteration of the super sports tourer will come with a host of updates over the outgoing model which has been discontinued in international markets since 2019. This includes cosmetics, features as well as mechanical updates.
    Design & Features on offer
    For starters, the 2021 Hayabusa flaunts a new styling with sharper edges although it still maintains design lines of its previous-gen model. Changes have been incorporated to its front fascia which looks more aggressive, thanks to the concise fairing adopted.

    It also gets an updated tail section while the twin exhausts are chrome-plated and are much sleeker and longer now. Although, the bike continues to get bulbous proportions which are synonymous with Hayabusa.
    It is offered with a newly designed LED headlight, a new fuel tank, and a more aerodynamic front fascia. Speaking of its hardware, it is built on the same twin-spar type aluminum frame assisted by the latest Kayaba suspension setup. The promotional video showed that the new Hayabusa could clock a speed as much as 180 mph (290 kmph) as indicated on its analogue speedometer along with a TFT screen on its instrument panel.
    The 2021 Hayabusa will come equipped with an array of electronic aids to complement the riding experience. This includes IMU-based features such as Hill Start Assist, ABS cornering package, traction control, quick shifter multiple riding modes, wheelie control and more.

    Engine Specs
    Coming to its performance, the new Hayabusa will draw its energy from a larger 1440cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine instead of the older 1340cc unit. This unit is expected to push out power as high as 200 bhp and is expected to be paired with either a six-speed manual or DCT gearbox. More significantly, this unit now complies with the stricter Euro-5 emission norms which has been achieved with the addition of a new intake, a catalytic converter and an exhaust system to Hayabusa.
    Prospective India Arrival
    As far as its arrival in India is concerned, there has been no confirmation from Suzuki about the same. However, with the rise in larger and more powerful motorcycle offerings in India in recent past, Suzuki might actually launch it in India at some stage. At one point, Hayabusa was the most expensive locally assembled bike in India. Whether it will be offered as a CBU or a CKD product can only be told in time to come. More

    There has been a lot of talk about the all new Suzuki Hayabusa which is scheduled to be unveiled on February 5. The expectations are high from the third generation model which is touted to restore the iconic nameplate to its former glory. A promotional video of the flagship motorcycle has been leaked ahead of the world premiere, giving us a clear idea on what to expect.
    2021 Suzuki Hayabusa – Design
    It has been said that the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa will be an evolution of the previous generation model rather than a grounds up product, and this reflects in the styling as well. The iconic heavy duty GT retains the instantly recognizable design traits such as a bulbous body work with smooth flowing surfaces.

    The front fascia receives the modernized three-part lighting signature with trademark air vents. The redesigned side panels feature massive air vents and an edgier appeal. The pillion seat cowl appears to be larger than before and house twin boomerang-shaped LED taillights. The overall bodywork is more aerodynamic than before.

    Not much is know about the detailed equipment list of the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa but from the video we can tell that it is equipped with LED headlights and an instrument console with analog dials and a TFT multi-info display. The superbike also receives Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) with multiple engine mapping.

    Being a premium offering, the new Hayabusa is expected to offer a comprehensive array of electronic systems supported by an Inertial Measurement Unit. Top-end variants could also offer semi-active suspension but we will know for sure in a few days.

    The new motorcycle is estimated to pump out upwards of 200 hp with the top-speed exceeding 180 mph (288 kmph) mark. Effortless mile munching will continue to be a major part of the Busa’s appeal.

    Not surprisingly, the flagship Suzuki is equipped with inverted telescopic front fork, monoshock rear suspension (both are likely to be fully adjustble), twin front discs and a single rear disc.
    India launch
    The 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa is expected to make its Indian debut sometime towards the second half of this year. It’s predecessor was assembled locally to keep the cost competitive but it remains to be seen if the latest iteration would follow the same route or be imported into the country as a CBU (Completely Built Unit).
