It is likely to be launched as the top-spec trim, while the outgoing scooter will be sold as a base-spec trim.For starters, Suzuki Burgman Street 125EX is still the same scooter as the outgoing model. Design and powertrain are kept identical. Suzuki is offering some key upgrades that are likely to offer more value to customers. A 12” rear alloy wheel as opposed to a 10” alloy wheel on the outgoing model. This way, Suzuki is adding more comfort and stability. Other features include a silent starter/generator like we have seen on Activa 6G and an auto start/stop system as we have seen with Yamaha’s 125cc scooters. According to Suzuki officials, development time of the upcoming electric scooter has been extended thanks to high ambient temperatures in our country.Another possible reason for this delay could be the fact that Suzuki is still awaiting Government’s policy on battery standardisation. The company has been testing a prototype that could be the brand’s first electric scooter in the country for more than a year now.This scooter, which is speculated to be a fully electric derivative of Burgman 125, has been spied testing once again recently. The latest spy shots have been clicked by automotive enthusiast Saubhagya Vasdev. The electric scooter looks very familiar to Burgman Street 125 in terms of look.Suzuki Electric Scooter SpiedLike in previous instances, the test was completely undisguised and wore a dual-tone paint scheme with blue and white colours. Biggest highlight from the recent spy images is the absence of an exhaust canister which is clearly visible. It also features a grey sleeve around the footboard which offers a visual distinction. Overall exterior appearance of the test mule is very similar to conventional scooters- both petrol and battery-powered.However, as per patents leaked earlier last year, it features a unique set of internal mechanics. Conventional scooters in EV space usually feature an electric motor and swingarm as a combined unit or take another approach of mounting the motor on the hub of the rear wheel. It also gets a rear tyre hugger for better protection and a digital instrument console, which might feature Bluetooth connectivity as well as 4G LTE.       Of the remaining big two wheeler brands, Suzuki is likely to be the next one to enter the electric two wheeler segment. Their Burgman electric scooter has been regularly spied testing in the NCR region. Earlier today, Suzuki two wheeler has shared a block your date email for 18th Nov. It is likely to be the global debut date of the Burgman electric scooter.
      The electric version of the Burgman Street 125, sports the same design as seen on its petrol counterpart. It will be seen in a striking white and blue colour scheme to set it apart from its fossil fuel counterpart. It will ride on 12 inch front and 10 inch rear wheels. It will receive telescopic front fork and twin shock absorber at the rear along with disc brake in the front and drum brake at the rear with CBS.

      Suzuki Burgman Electric scooter will continue to sport other features from its petrol powered counterpart that include a muscular body, LED head and tail lamps with LED turn indicators, tall windscreen, large and comfortable seating. It will also receive a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.
      Suzuki Burgman Electric Made In India
      Suzuki will continue with the strategy of designing its products specially for India with global technology platforms as base. The Suzuki electric scooter which is set to enter our market, will adopt an India-spec design package while the electric powertrain and battery will be shared with global models. The upcoming automatic two wheeler is the first proper electric scooter by the firm. Suzuki has been selling e-Lets in Japanese market for sometime now but with a range of just 30 km, it’s not exactly a global urban electric vehicle.
      Suzuki would be focusing on developing a Lithium-ion battery pack for the automatic scooter in question. The performance levels of this electric scooter would be somewhere between the 110 cc and 125 cc segment standards. It will rival the likes of Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ather 450x, Ola S1, and many others from Hero Electric, Ampere, Okinawa, etc.

      Till now, electric two-wheeler segment in India has been largely dominated by startups such as Okinawa, Ather, Revolt, etc. It’s only recently that mainstream auto companies such as Bajaj and TVS have forayed in this segment. With immense potential for growth, other auto companies are also expected to launch their electric products in the near future.

      Suzuki is currently testing its first electric scooter for the Indian market, which has been derived from its existing bestseller – Burgman Street. Latest spy shots are credit to automotive enthusiast Nitin Pahwa, who shared the images in Rushlane Spylane Facebook Group.
      In terms of design, Suzuki Burgman electric looks almost identical to its gasoline counterpart. Everything from headlamps to fenders, turn indicators, windscreen, rear view mirrors, side panels and grab rails are largely the same as existing Burgman.
      Talking about features that give Suzuki Burgman electric its unique identity, the scooter could be launched in new colour options. It was recently spotted with a dual-tone white and blue colour scheme, which is not available with existing Burgman. The current Burgman is offered in Matte Blue colour option, which is different from that of Burgman electric.

      Other colour options currently available for Burgman include Metallic Matte Fibroin Grey, Pearl Mirage White, Metallic Matte Black and Metallic Matte Bordeaux Red. It is possible that some of these colour options may be used for the electric variant.
      Talking about functional changes, Burgman electric obviously does not have the exhaust system. Suspension at the rear is also different. In comparison, current Burgman has the swingarm on the left side.

      Details about battery pack and motor have not been revealed yet. Burgman electric is expected to deliver the same level of performance as its fossil fuel counterpart. Current Burgman is powered by a 124 cc air cooled SOHC engine that is capable of delivering 8.7 ps of max power at 6750 rpm and 10 Nm of max torque at 5500 rpm. The maxi scooter utilizes a CVT transmission. Burgman electric could have a 3-4 kWh battery pack connected to a motor with 4-6 kW power output.

      With a rise in electric mobility solutions, many manufacturers are looking to introduce electric offerings in the near future especially in the two-wheeler segment. Plus with stricter emission norms in place, electric powertrains make good sense to bring down harmful pollutants in the air.
      Over recent past, many new electric scooters have been launched or revealed in India and many other manufacturers are planning to introduce such models in coming future. One of them is Suzuki which is planning to bring an electrified version of its power scooter Burgman.
      Latest Spy Shots
      Two prototypes of the electric scooter were recently spotted testing again in Delhi-NCR. Like in previous instances, the biggest highlight from the images is the absence of an exhaust canister which is clearly visible.
      The electric scooter is very similar to Burgman Street in terms of its design. Both test mules sported the same white and blue dual-tone paint scheme as in previous sightings.
      Suzuki Burgman Electric
      Suzuki had first revealed its intentions of developing an electric scooter for the Indian market back in 2018. However, at the time it wasn’t known that the Japanese manufacturer will be branding it as Burgman. Although tagging it as Burgman does seem a sensible decision since Suzuki’s first electric scooter will be expensive and it needs a strong donor with attractive styling and features to justify its price.
      Design & Features
      Speaking of its styling, it carries forward the maxi-style design of its petrol counterpart. It sports a white-blue paint scheme with blue highlights on the lower parts of the side panel and near handlebars.
      It also features dual shock absorbers now in order to handle the extra weight from the lithium-ion battery packs. Although it does feature standard telescopic forks at front and alloy wheels which are carried from the regular model.
      Suzuki Burgman Electric
      Apart from this, Suzuki is also set to offer all features which come on Burgman Street as standard on the electric scooter. These include an LED headlamp, LED taillights, a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth as well as smartphone connectivity. A couple of months ago, Suzuki released the latest version of Suzuki Connect which now offers features such as Whatsapp alerts, SMS and CALL alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, charging status, riding status, etc.
      Expected Specifications
      Details of its powertrain are yet to be disclosed although one could expect Suzuki to offer a battery pack of 3-4 kWh and paired to a motor generating 5-6 kW of power. Its single-charge range would be around 80-90 km while it can attain a clock speed of around 80 kmph. It is expected to be offered at a price of over 1 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon its launch, it will compete against the likes of TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X.

      Suzuki Burgman electric scooter has been doing trial runs in public without camouflage for a few weeks now, and it has been caught on tape up close. Latest spy shots and video are credit to automotive enthusiast Abhishak Mann, who shared them on Rushlane Spylane Facebook group.

      Touted to be Suzuki’s first EV in our market, the scooter carries forward the IC-engined model’s styling but things under the skin are significantly different. Last year, Suzuki made its intention of venturing into the promising electric scooter segment clear. The Burgman electric, going by the state of the prototypes, is on track to be introduced sometime later this year.
      Apart from the new dual-tone colour theme, the obvious difference between the IC-engine model and the electric one is the addition of another shock absorber at the rear to handle the extra weight. Detailed specifications are still under wraps but we expect the motor to be >permanent magnet synchronous unit (AC) mounted close to the vehicle’s center of gravity.
      The motor is likely to employ a belt drive and is estimated to have a power output of 5-6 kW. The Suzuki Burgman electric is expected to be equipped with a lithium-ion battery with an estimated range of 100 to 120 km. The scooter will receive FAME-II subsidy just like its rivals.

      Equipment
      Being a premium offering, the Suzuki Burgman electric will come with a comprehensive array of features. For starters, just like its IC-engined sibling, the EV is equipped with front disc brake, a fully digital instrument console, alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. We can expect the Suzuki electric scooter to come with smartphone connectivity and a dedicated app.

      The prototypes spotted so far have been featuring halogen headlamp with LED DRLs while the petrol model which is currently on sale is offered with full LED setup. It remains to be seen if it is a cost cutting measure or the final production-ready version will get LED headlights.

      When it comes to performance, we expect the Suzuki Burgman electric to have a top-speed of around 80 kmph with a 0-40 kmph acceleration time of under 4 seconds. In other words, the performance will be on par with its primary rivals.
      Design
      The Burgman’s imposing presence and a comfortable setup for long commute would give it an edge over the competition. The maxi-scooter body style dwarfs other premium electric scooters in the market like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. The design highlights include a massive front apron with prominent headlamp, generously proportioned seat, alloy grab rail and smart-looking rear combination lights.

      The electric scooter market is getting more and more attention from mainstream OEMs and this year is set to witness significant activity in this space. With more people inclined towards personal mode of transport, the electric scooter segment is expected to receive a huge boost in appeal.
