Suzuki Motorcycle India reports 69,942 units in wholesales in March 2021. Of this, domestic market sales accounted for 60,222 units, and exports for 9,720 units in March 2021. YoY growth stood at 72.11 percent, up from total sales of 40,636 units at volume gain of 29,306 units.
Domestic sales stood at 33,930 units at 77.48 percent growth at volume gain of 26,292 units. Performers in the domestic market were Access and Burgman scooters as well as Gixxer and Intruder motorcycles. Exports grew at 44.94 percent, up from 6,706 units at volume gain of about 3k units.
Suzuki Sales March 2021
Cumulatively, SMIPL sold 589,997 units from April 2020 – March 2021 (FY2021). Volumes declined by a fourth. Sales decline stood at 25.35 percent, down from 7,90,397 units reported sold through FY20.
Last year this time, the company had reported sales growth of 5.7 percent over FY19 when cumulative sales stood at 7,47,506 units. It’s fair to say the growth momentum Suzuki was counting on has faced a setback owing to evolved market conditions.

Two wheeler industry
With Covid-19 pandemic related lockdown dictating business needs, most manufacturers have only just begun seeing increased activity in recent months. The slowdown at the start of the fiscal has been difficult to overcome though some recovery has been possible in the last two quarters.
In February 2021, Suzuki sold 59,530 units. MoM volume gain stood at 692 units at 1.16 percent growth. Momentum in 2021 is already setting precedence, and bodes well for the year to come. With added focus on need for vehicles for personal commute, and low base sales for two straight quarters in the last fiscal, manufacturers are going to be able to push forward in the next 6 months.

2021 Suzuki Burgman 400An improved traction control system has helped enhance overall safety in the 2021 Suzuki Burgman 400
Suzuki has taken the wraps off the new 2021 Burgman 400 which gets a bunch of new updates. These new updates could be found in the feature, styling and powertrain departments. Apart from all these revisions, the Maxi scooter now complies with the latest Euro-5 emission norms.
First launched in 1998, this is the third major upgrade for the Suzuki Maxi scooter, the first two being in 2006 and 2018. Upon its initial launch, Burgman 400 set the tone for the mid-displacement maxi-style scooters across the world and continues to find a substantial market in European markets.
Maxi Styling with new colour options
Starting with its styling, the overall design has been carried forward from the previous iteration and continues to look like a jacked-up version of Burgman 125 currently on sale in India. It is touted to be as comfortable and utilitarian as ever featuring a plush saddle with adjustable lumbar support, cut-away footboards.
It now delivers improved visibility in the dark thanks to the updated lighting setup comprising LED headlights, taillights and running taillights. It is now available in three colour schemes namely- iron grey, matte silver and matte black, all with blue alloy rims.

Updated Powertrain
There have been plenty of updates made on the engine department. It continues to feature the same 400cc single-cylinder motor but a series of updates has led to improved overall performance.

Thanks to a new twin-plug cylinder head, the engine now returns better low and mid-range torque. A change in ignition timing has resulted in stable idling, easier engine startup and increased top speed and yet at the same time reducing fuel consumption.
The updated motor also has a stronger power delivery and improved throttle control due to revised cam profiles and altered injectors from 16-hole to 10-hole. This has also resulted in increased combustion efficiency. The stricter emission standards have also brought a new catalytic converter that should result in improved refinement.

Updated Features on offer
As far as its equipment is concerned, the major update has been the new traction control system which enhances riding safety in wet and slippery conditions. Moreover, stopping is a lot easier thanks to an ABS setup which is 36g lighter. The new Burgman 400 is also more practical with under-seat storage of 42 litres and in addition to 6.3 litres in the front glove box. The front compartment also houses a 12V charging socket.
Prices of the 2021 Burgman 400 will be revealed at the time of its launch and it is expected to go on sale in Europe starting with UK in the next few months. It is extremely unlikely to launch in India anytime soon. Internationally it will rival the likes of other Maxi scooters such as Honda Forza 350 and BMW C400 twins. More

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL), the two-wheeler subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan sales analysis (domestic + exports) for February 2021. The company has reported a 1.61 percent YoY increase in sales in domestic markets while exports surged 30.21 percent.
Total sales of Suzuki scooters and motorcycles sold in the past month stood at 59,529 units, up 1.61 percent over 58,584 units sold in Feb 20. MoM sales increased 4.43 percent as against 57,004 units sold in Jan 21. In domestic markets it was the Suzuki Access scooter that ruled the sales charts.
Access sales suffered a de-growth in Feb 21 down 3.21 percent to 48,496 units, from 50,101 units sold in Feb 20. MoM sales however increased 6.64 percent as against 45,475 units sold in Jan 21. Sales of the Burgman at No.2 on the list, stood at 8,533 units in Feb 21, up 11.95 percent as against 7,622 units sold in Feb 20 while MoM sales dipped 2.40 percent compared to 8,743 units sold in Jan 21.
New Suzuki Access 125 and Burgman Street
The Suzuki Access 125 and the new Burgman Street have just been launched with with Bluetooth enabled digital console. The two scooters now available in brand new colour options and priced at Rs. 81,030 and Rs. 87,050 respectively.
Suzuki Domestic Sales Breakup Analysis – Model Wise Feb 2021
Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer 250 saw increased sales in domestic markets in Feb 21 to 1,823 units and 549 units, up 207.94 percent and 111.97 percent respectively. However, MoM sales of the Gixxer dipped 28.23 percent while sales of the Gixxer 250 increased 232.73 percent as against 165 units sold in Jan 21.
Intruder also saw positive sales with 128 units sold in Feb 21, over just 8 units sold in Feb 20. It also posted a reasonable 58.02 percent increase in terms of MoM sales, as against 81 units sold in Jan 21.
The Japanese two wheeler maker is also working on a new Intruder 250cc cruiser motorcycle and patent images get detailed recently. The bike will share styling with the Intruder 150 and share its 249cc single-cylinder BS6 compliant engine with the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250.
Suzuki Exports Breakup Analysis – Model Wise Feb 2021
Suzuki Two Wheeler Exports
Suzuki remained the 5th largest exporter of two wheelers in Feb 21 after Bajaj, TVS, Honda and Hero. Exports in the past month increased 30.21 percent to 12,132 units as against 9,317 units exported in Feb 20. MoM exports increased 53.45 percent with 7,906 units exported in Jan 21.
It was the Suzuki Gixxer that found most buyers in export market. Exports increased 46.36 percent YoY and 136.10 percent MoM with Feb 21 exports at 6,488 units and 2,748 units exported in Jan 21. The Burgman and Gixxer 250 also noted increased exports while Hayate exports dipped YoY and MoM.
Suzuki Access scooter, Intruder and Lets were lower down the order with the Intruder noting 100 percent increase both in terms of YoY and MoM sales. The Lets also managed good numbers at 480 units exported in Feb 21 as against 210 units in Feb 20 while nil units were exported in Jan 21. More

One of the most iconic motorcycle brands of all time, Hayabusa has always been synonymous with speed and advanced engineering. It was the first of its kind to achieve top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph) in 1999. Now in its third generation, Hayabusa continues to draw auto enthusiasts from across the globe.

Although it carries on with its bulbous proportions, next-gen Hayabusa looks a lot sharper as compared to its predecessor. With the compact fairing and other design updates, the front fascia gets a more aggressive profile. Other key changes include chrome plated twin exhausts, new LED headlight, updated fuel tank design, and two-part LED taillights. Bolder fonts for ‘Hayabusa’ logo further enhance the superbike’s sporty character.

Powering the beast is a 1340cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that is capable of generating 187 bhp of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque. This is short by 8 bhp and 4 Nm, as compared to the earlier model. Transmission is a 6-speed gearbox integrated with two-way quick shifter.
The engine is basically the same as earlier, but it has been updated to comply with Euro-5/BS6 emission standards. This has been achieved via the addition of new intake system, catalytic converter and updated exhaust system. With these changes, fuel efficiency of next-gen Hayabusa has dropped to 18.06 kmpl, as compared to 21.5 kmpl earlier.

In terms of features, new Hayabusa offers a new TFT screen that is placed between the analogue speedometer and tachometer. Tech upgrades include traction control, six-axis IMU system, ride-by-wire throttle, ABS cornering package, hill hold control, launch control, active speed limiter and six ride modes.

New-gen Suzuki Hayabusa will be launched in India soon – confirms the social media channels of Suzuki India. It is likely to be imported as CBU at first with CKD assembly starting at a later stage in India. This has been the case with earlier models as well. As for the pricing, the superbike is expected to be launched in the range of Rs 17-18 lakh (ex-showroom).
Just like its predecessors, third-gen Hayabusa is expected to register strong sales. The Web Edition that was announced exclusively in Italy was sold out within three days. Only 10 units of these were offered. Priced at 21,490 Euros (Rs 18.9 lakh), the Web Edition of Hayabusa was equipped with a range of premium features. These included Akrapovic approved titanium silencers, anodized levers with brand logo, carbon tank pad, carbon mirror covers, rim stripe and seat cover.

Suzuki Access scooter continues its dominance as the manufacturer’s bestselling two wheeler

For January 2021, Suzuki two wheeler wholesales improved marginally at 1.85 percent. Volume gain stood at just over a 1,000 units, up at 57,004 units from just below 56k units. MoM growth was higher at 27.37 percent, up from 44,756 units at volume gain of 12,248 units.
January 2020 domestic wholesales saw improvement in some segments but that manufacturers reselling scooter Access was reported at significant sales decline. Access sales fell to 45,475 units, down from 54,595 units. Sales decline is reported at 16.70 percent at volume loss of 9,120 units. It leads the sales charge at 79.78 percent of total domestic Suzuki sales. MoM access sales improved 13.25 percent up from 40,154 units at volume gain of over 5.3k units.
Suzuki Burgman scooter sales
Suzuki’s next bestseller is also a scooter, it’s premium Burgman. Sales is up at 8,743 units, up from 603 units at volume gain of over 8.1k units. Sales share stood at a sobering 15 percent. MoM volume gain stood at over 6k units, up from 2,666 units.
Suzuki’s motorcycle sales is dominated by its Gixxer series. Gixxer sales grew to over 2.5k units, up from 51 units at volume gain of 2,489 units. MoM growth stood at 53.85 percent, at volume gain of just under 900 units from 1,651 units. Gixxer 250 sales fell to 165 units from 717 units at over 75 percent decline. MoM decline is pegged at 26 percent, down from 224 units. Intruder sales is reported at 81 units, up 20 units MoM from 61 units.

Suzuki exports in January 2021
On the export front, Gixxer leads the charge at 34.76 percent of total exports. In january 2021, 2,748 Gixxer units were exported. Numbers decline by 60 percent down from 6,898 units at volume loss of over 4,100 units. MoM decline stood at 17.38 percent, down from 3,326 units at volume loss of 578 units.
Burgman exports grew to 2,424 units, up from 1,264 units at volume gain of 1,160 units. MS swelled to over 30 percent. MoM fain stood at 28.25 percent, up from 1,890 units at volume gain of 534 units.
Gixxer 250 exports improved significantly, up at 2,286 units. Volume gain stood at 1,793 units, up from 493 units. MoM gain more than doubled, up from over a 1,000 units at volume gain of 1,240 units. Hayate exports fell by half down at 240 units from 490 units MoM decline is similar.

Access, despite its profound share in the domestic market, fails to recreate the magic overseas. Exports were reported at 144 units. The month prior, exports were at a mere 12 units. Intruder exports stood at 64 units, up from 16 units. MoM volumes fell by 32 units. No units of Lets were exported last month.
