    Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter Patent Leak – New Details Revealed

    Though Suzuki’s new electric scooter based on Burgman has been on test in India for a while now, the company has not yet officially confirmed anything in this regard. A leaked image of a patent filed by the Japanese auto giant in the country revealing the design of its upcoming e-scooter almost confirms its plans.
    As revealed by the patent, design of the upcoming electric scooter is very similar to the conventional Suzuki Burgman Street 125. It adopts the same Maxi body style as its petrol-powered sibling with a front-heavy fairing, a large windscreen and a rear tyre hugger.
    Unique Internal Mechanics
    Interestingly, test mules of the battery-powered Burgman Street were spotted on a couple of occasions. While its shape and silhouette are very similar to conventional scooters, the patents reveal very unique internal mechanics. Conventional electric scooters in this segment usually feature an electric motor and swingarm as a combined unit or take another approach of mounting the motor on the hub of the rear wheel.
    In doing so, it frees up space within the chassis to create more room for luggage or larger batteries. However, in this case, the patents reveal a unique design where a drivetrain is located in the under-seat area connected to the motor via a chain drive setup.

    Rest of the electric scooter’s electronics are mounted on top of the motor along with a speed controller, transformer and battery. While surely it is slightly unconventional, it does provide some other benefits as well.
    The patent describes that the new layout aids air cooling through inlet ducts, outlets and fans mounted within the body. However, their detailed functions and effects on the working of the electric motor have not been explained yet. More details regarding this approach are likely to surface in the near future.
    Other Details
    While most of its aesthetics are likely to be carried forward from Burgman Street, there are expected to be some variations in specs. For instance, the front suspension units will feature telescopic forks, however, dual shock absorbers will be installed at rear to carry the extra weight of the lithium-ion battery packs. Alloy wheels will also be carried forward from the regular IC engine-powered model.
    As far as features are concerned, Suzuki is expected to offer standard features such as LED headlamp, an LED taillight, a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth as well as smartphone connectivity in the upcoming e-scooter. A few months ago, the Japanese brand also released the latest version of Suzuki Connect which now offers features such as Whatsapp alerts, SMS and CALL alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, charging status, riding status, etc. There are no details on powertrain specs as of now.     Suzuki 300cc Cruiser Leaks Via Patent Sketches – Royal Enfield Rival?

    Entry-level retro-styled motorcycles never go out of flavour. This segment of 300-400cc of classic bikes is currently dominated by Royal Enfield in India. However, many new manufacturers have dived into this space and found reasonable success, for example, Honda and Jawa. It appears Suzuki too is planning to venture into this space.
    Haojoe, Suzuki’s Chinese partner, has been developing a new entry-level cruiser motorcycle named TR300. Design patents of the 300cc bike have been leaked online which reveal a cruiser with a traditional retro design. The 300cc cruiser space in China is currently occupied by Qingqi KR GV300, Benda Jinjila 300 and Honda CM300.
    Traditional Cruiser Design
    Starting with its design, TR300 sports a low-slung profile of a conventional cruiser. Upfront, it features an oblong-shaped headlamp cluster with chrome bezels and flanked by a small LED turn indicator on each side and is accompanied by a small windscreen on top.
    Behind the tiny flyscreen, an instrument display is placed which is likely to be an LCD unit. The most attractive highlights, however, are a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and chunky front and rear fenders which resemble Kawasaki Vulcan S to a certain extent.
    Suzuki 300cc Cruiser (HAOJUE 300)
    A stubby black exhaust setup and dual-spoke alloy wheels lend a hint of modernity to the cruiser. Other notable styling highlights include an upright handlebar and split-style seats with a low-set rider seating position.
    More importantly, it is underpinned by the same platform as the one underpinning Suzuki’s naked streetfighter GSX S300. This also means that TR300 also shares the same powertrain as GSX S300 and its very own sibling Haojue DR300.
    Mechanical Specs
    TR300 will be powered by a 298cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that delivers an output of 28.8 bhp of power and 27.8 Nm of peak torque. This motor could be paired with a six-speed gearbox. The patent images also reveal its hardware configurations which feature a rather simple setup of telescopic forks at front and dual shock absorbers at rear.

    The bike will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels shod by chunky tyres while anchorage will be handled by single disc brakes at both ends. A dual-channel ABS should also be offered as standard to assist the braking setup.
    It is safe to say that Haojue TR300 flaunts some very basic and rudimentary components. However, this could likely translate to a very affordable price tag which is the need for any entry-level vehicle in the Chinese market. Therefore, a rebadged TR300, carrying a Suzuki logo, makes perfect sense for the budget-centric and cruiser-friendly Indian market. More

    No sooner did Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., open bookings for the new generation Hayabusa, than all the 101 units of the first lot have been sold out. The orders were via the company portal due to COVID-19 restrictions and opened on 26th April with booking amount was fixed at Rs.1 lakh. Deliveries have commenced from this month. The first 101 buyers will receive a pillion cowl as an accessory free of cost.
    The new gen Hayabusa is priced at Rs.16.40 lakhs, Rs.2.80 lakh more expensive as compared to its earlier gen model which carried a price tag of Rs.13.70 lakhs. The updated model boasts of better overall balance, superior performance and an engine which now complies with BS6 emission standards.
    Colours and Key Features
    Features also include a new LED headlamp, turn indicators and position lamps while it also gets a new set of mirrors. The 2021 Hayabusa also sports a new TFT centrally positioned display, 3 power modes, cruise control and 3 levels of engine braking controls.

    The new gen Hayabusa is offered in dual colour schemes of Glass Sparkle Black with Candy Burnt Gold, Metallic Mat Sword Silver with Candy Daring Red and Pearl Brilliant White with Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. It also gets a bold new design, a new logo, redesigned fuel tank and longer exhausts which are now chrome plated. It rides on 7 spoke alloy wheels fitted with Bridgestone Battlax S22 tyres.
    BS 6 Compliant Engine
    The 2021 Hayabusa gets its power via a BS6/Euro 5 compliant 1340 cc, in-line 4 cylinder, liquid cooled engine that offers 190 hp power at 9,700 rpm and 150 Nm torque at 7,000 rpm mated to a 6 speed transmission. The engine upgrade to comply with the new emissions standards sees a reduction in both power and torque by 10 hp and 5 Nm as compared to its earlier engine.
    Mileage is claimed at 18.5 km/l while top speed is at 290 km/h. Kerb weight is at 264 kgs, 2 kgs less than its earlier model. The 2021 Hayabusa gets an updated braking system and now comes in with Brembo’s Stylema calipers in the front and Nissin calipers at the rear. Suspension is via fully adjustable 43mm KYB forks, capable of 120mm travel and KYB monoshock.
    Future bookings are on hold and are expected to commence from August 2021. Like its earlier counterpart, the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa will find no direct competition in India especially since the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R has now been discontinued. More

    Suzuki Sales, Exports April 2021 – Access, Burgman, Gixxer, Intruder

    The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing lockdown, lack of enthusiasm among buyers in the country and the very dismal economic conditions that the country is facing at the moment, have all led to poor two wheeler domestic sales in April 2021.
    Every two wheeler maker in the country has reported MoM de-growth with the exception of Suzuki. Total two wheeler domestic sales stood at 9,53,338 units in April 2021, as compared to 14,43,320 units in March 2021 leading to a 33.95 percent MoM de-growth.
    Suzuki Domestic Sales
    Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, two wheeler lineup currently includes the new Hayabusa, V-Strom 650 XT, Gixxer SF 250, Gixxer 250, Gixxer SF, Gixxer, Intruder, Access 125 and Burgman Street. The company has posted positive growth both in domestic and global markets in the first month of the new financial year.
    Domestic sales grew by 6.07 percent to 63,879 units in April 21, up from 60,222 units sold in March 21. The leading model in the company lineup was the Access scooter, of which the company sold 53,285 units in the past month.
    Suzuki Sales, Exports April 2021
    This was a growth of 9.48 percent over sales of 48,672 units sold in March 21. The Access scooter currently commands a 83.42 percent share. It is offered in seven variants which also include the two recently launched models with Bluetooth connectivity. No other model in the company lineup was able to cross the 10,000 unit sales mark.
    At No.2 was the Suzuki Burgman Street scooter, posting a MoM de-growth of 9.77percent to 8,154 units, down from 9.037 units sold in March 21. Suzuki is currently testing the electric version of the Burgman Street which, once launched, will compete against the likes of Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X and the TVS iQube.
    Suzuki Gixxer and Intruder sales increased 4.51 percent and 29.41 percent respectively. Sales of the Gixxer which had stood at 2,019 units in March 21 increased to 2,110 units in April 21. Likewise, Intruder sales went up from 136 units in March 21 to 176 units in the past month posting the highest percentage growth as against any other model in the company lineup. The Gixxer 250 on the other hand noted de-growth of 62.85 percent to only 133 units sold in April 21.
    The Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT entered the sales charts in April 21 with sales of 21 units while the new Suzuki Hayabusa was launched in India on April 26, 2021, with the first batch of 101 units booked within two days of opening bookings.
    Suzuki Exports April 21
    Reporting positive growth in terms of exports, Suzuki exported 13,970 units in April 21, up 45.67 percent over 9,590 units shipped in March 21. Suzuki Burgman and Gixxer were the two bikes that commanded the most attention in global markets with Burgman posting MoM growth of 480.14 percent with 6,602 units exported in April 21, up from 1,138 units in March 21.     Suzuki Sales, Exports Break Up March 2021 – Access, Burgman, Gixxer, Intruder

    Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) has reported its monthly sales. Taking the company’s 5 best selling models into account, there were a total of 60,222 units sold in domestic markets in March 2021 while exports stood at 9,710 units.
    Suzuki Domestic Sales MoM Sales Growth
    Suzuki sales in March 21 stood at 60,222 units, a growth of 77.60 percent over domestic sales of 33,909 units in March 20. It was also a 1.16 percent growth over 59,529 units sold in Feb 21, indicating steady growth over the past months even as the country is in the midst of deadly pandemic and lockdowns have been imposed across several parts of the country.
    The Suzuki Access was the company’s best-selling model in domestic markets. Sales in March 21 stood at 48,672, a growth of 83.83 percent over 26,476 units sold in March 20. The Access currently hold an 80.82 percent share in the company lineup. MoM sales were more or less flat with Feb 21 sales at 48,496 units.
    Sales of the Suzuki Burgman has also been equally noteworthy. March 21 saw a total of 9,037 units sold in domestic markets, an increase of 80.42 percent over 5,009 units sold in March 20. Burgman sales had stood at 8,533 units in Feb 21. The Burgman Street is currently priced from Rs 81,213 to Rs 84,711.

    Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer 250
    Suzuki Gixxer posted de-growth YoY dipping -13.31 percent from 2,329 units sold in March 20 to 2,019 units in March 21. However, when compared to Feb 21, when sales stood at 1,823 units, it was a 10.75 percent MoM growth.
    The Gixxer 250 on the other hand noted a 1178.57 percent YoY growth from 28 units sold in March 20 to 358 units sold in March 21. MoM sales dipped from 549 units sold in Feb 21 a de-growth of -35.79 percent. Suzuki Intruder sales have been steadily rising from 67 units sold in March 20 to 128 units in Feb 21 and thereon to 136 units in March 21.
    Suzuki Exports Feb and March 2021
    The popular Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer 250 tops the export charts for March 21. Gixxer exports increased 47.77 percent YoY from 3,814 units exported in March 20 to 5,636 units exported in the March 21.

    MoM exports however dipped -13.13 percent from 6,488 units exported in Feb 21. Gixxer 250 exports rose 74.53 percent YoY. In March 20, a total of 1,476 units of the Gixxer 250 were shipped, while this figure stood at 2,576 units in March 21. Feb 21 saw 2,300 units exported making it the only model in the company lineup to post positive MoM growth.
    Other bikes on the export list for March 21 included the Burgman (1,138 units), Lets (240 units), Hayate (120 units), while 0 units of the Intruder and Access were shipped. Each of these, except for the Access posted YoY growth while MoM exports dipped significantly. More

    As the country battles growing devastation that Covid-19 brings with it each day, businesses too are being affected. For starters production modules are being closely watched to adapt to situations that are changing on a daily basis. Add to this, an increasing number of state issued lockdown protocols announced in recent weeks. The situation has again begun to become increasingly difficult for businesses.
    Suzuki two wheelers has held its own despite an uncertain April. Cumulative sales is reported at 77,849 units. Considering no manufacturing and sales activity in April 2020, a YoY comparison is not possible. If April 2019 numbers are considered, the increase is at 18 percent.
    Suzuki India Sales – April 2021
    Domestic sales and export growth
    Of total sales in April 2021, domestic sales is reported at 63,879 units. MoM gain is reported at 6.07 percent, up from 60,222 units. Volume gain is reported at 3,657 units. Top sellers include Access, Burgman and Gixxer.
    Exports are reported at 13,970 units. MoM gain stood at 43.72 percent, up from 9,720 units. Volume gain is up at 4,250 units. MoM cumulative sales growth is stood at 11.31 percent. Sales grew from 69,942 units at volume gain of 7,907 units.
    Suzuki India Sales – April 2021
    Koichiro Hirao, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. said, “It is very satisfying that despite all the challenges associated with the second surge of Covid-19 Pandemic in the month of April, we could post of 12% YOY growth in domestic and an exceptional 57.5% growth in our exports volumes.”
    2021 Suzuki Hayabusa launch in India
    Given current circumstances, the start to FY22 is at best uncertain. SMIPL has gotten ahead on a strong foot to FY22. Earlier in the week, the company launched the all new Hayabusa. The first batch of 101 units was booked allotted to India were sold out in 2 days of bookings being opened.
    Last week, the company announced shift reduction at its Haryana plant. For four days, April 28 to May 1, 2021, the plant ran for a single shift instead of the regular 3 shifts.
    The company has also recalled Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 units on account of an excessive vibration problem. The recall covers 199 units that were manufactured between August 12, 2019 and March 21, 2021.
    SMIPL is contacting customers regarding the same. Excessive vibrations are on account of balancer shaft positioning in the engine. The vibrations could result in two of the six nuts in the tail-light casing to come loose. More

    Suzuki Gixxer 250, SF250 Recalled In India Over Excessive Vibration Issues

    While Gixxer 250 competes against the likes of Bajaj Dominar 250, Yamaha FZ25 and KTM 250 Duke, SF250 competes against Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and KTM RC 200
    Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited has issued a recall for its quarter-litre offerings in the country- Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF250. The former being a naked streetfighter while the latter being an entry-level faired superbike. The reason given for this recall is that certain customers have felt excessive vibrations on the bike.
    Cause of Recall
    While the official notification issued by the company is difficult to decode, the main synopsis concluded is that excess vibration is felt due to improper positioning of the balancer shaft in the engine. It further says that the incorrect positioning of crank balancer gear drive may lead to two out of the six mounting lugs of taillamp being compromised in worst-case vibration.
    However, the bikemaker has maintained that this would not affect the functioning of the motorcycle in any way. A total of 199 units that were manufactured between August 12, 2019 and March 21, 2021 have been affected by this latest recall.
    Although, there has been no official confirmation sent from Suzuki India to company workshops yet regarding this development. However, it has been revealed that the repair work for this would only take a couple of hours.
    Suzuki Gixxer SF 250
    The Japanese brand is likely to send out notifications to affected customers through emails or text messages. Given, the current situation of rising cases of the Covid-19 pandemic, Suzuki would want customers to schedule an appointment before visiting a workshop in order to ensure minimum waiting time. As usual, the repair activity would be carried out free of cost to the customer.
    Gixxer 250, SF250 Specs
    Suzuki introduced the BS6 compliant Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF250 last year. Both models are powered by the same 249cc 4-valve SOHC single-cylinder oil-cooled motor that pumps out 26.13 bhp at 9300rpm and 22.6 Nm of peak torque at 7300rpm. These figures are slightly lower than their BS4 counterparts. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Both motorcycles also share the same cycle parts.
    They are underpinned by a diamond frame which is suspended on telescopic forks up front and a swingarm-mounted mono-shock at rear. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends which are assisted by dual-channel ABS. Both receive a 12-litre fuel tank. While Gixxer 250 weighs 156 kilos, its faired sibling weighs slightly heavier at 161kg due to its extra body panels.

    Hayabusa First Lot Sold Out In India – Bookings Closed Even Before Deliveries Start

    After its global unveil, Hayabusa has now been launched in India. The legendary superbike has been a preferred choice for enthusiasts in the country and that is true for the new gen as well. Even before the deliveries can start, the entire first lot of new Hayabusa in India has been sold out.
    Bookings have now been closed across India. A total of 101 units of 2021 Hayabusa were available for India in the first lot. Deliveries of the new Busa will start from mid next month.
    As may be recalled, Hayabusa was discontinued in India and other parts of the world due to new stringent emission norms. At that time, it was believed that Hayabusa will be relegated to history books for good. However, Suzuki has chosen to resurrect the legend, probably based on consumer feedback and market dynamics.
    2021 Suzuki Hayabusa key updates
    New Hayabusa looks sharper, as is evident in the updated front fascia and revised fairing. Other visual enhancements include new LED headlight, sculpted fuel tank, chrome plated twin exhaust and two-part LED tail light. The font used for ‘Hayabusa’ logo is also new, which comes across as bolder and sportier.

    New Hayabusa packs in a range of tech upgrades such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, six-axis IMU system, three power mode selector, multi-level engine brake control, ABS cornering package, active speed limiter, six ride modes, launch control and hill hold control.
    New Hayabusa powertrain
    Suzuki has chosen to use the same engine as earlier, a 1340 cc, liquid cooled, inline, four-cylinder unit. The engine has been tweaked to comply with new emission norms, as mandated under BS6 / Euro-5. Addition of new components such as new catalytic converter, fuel intake system and updated exhaust system has played a critical role in achieving emission compliance.
    In its BS6 form, the engine dishes out max power of 187 bhp and peak torque of 150 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and equipped with two-way quick shifter. Next-gen Hayabusa will offer fuel efficiency of 18.06 kmpl, which is less than 21.5 kmpl of BS4 model.
    New Hayabusa price
    In the Indian market, new Hayabusa is priced from Rs 16.4 lakh (ex-showroom). This is significantly higher than the last known starting price of Rs 13.70 lakh for BS4 model. New Hayabusa will primarily rival Kawasaki Ninja H2 in the Indian market.
    Considering its wide fan following, new Hayabusa is expected to register strong sales after its launch. Sales number will be available once deliveries start. The BS4 model was entirely sold out, something that is evidence to its iconic status. Initially, new Hayabusa will be imported as CBU. Later, CKD option is likely to be utilized.
