    2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV Spied – New Details Revealed

    XUV400 will be longer than XUV300 and will have similar dimensions and proportions as SsangYong Tivoli2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV SpiedMahindra has firmly established itself as a UV maker and not a carmaker in India. Mahindra has been slowly phasing out everything that ain’t an SUV or a MUV. KUV100 100 and Marazzo remain, but they hardly sell, as seen in our sales breakup. In June 2022 Marazzo sold just 124 units and KUV100 sold 0. Ouch!After setting foot in UV segment, Mahindra now wants to do the same thing with EV segment. Right now, Tata Motors is the king of electric car segment and Mahindra wants to eat into its share. In this light, Mahindra has bet big on EVs and will unveil five new global electric SUVs under Born Electric series on August 15.But they are global electric SUVs and won’t come cheap. So, for mainstream market where Nexon EV has a stronghold, Mahindra will launch the XUV400 electric. We have seen spy shots of XUV400 electric in the factory before. But now, it is found testing on road, credit to YouTube channel Auto Comparo.Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUVThe main highlight of XUV400 electric is that it is not a chopped SsangYong Tivoli to fit under 4 meters. SsangYong Tivoli was chopped up to create XUV300 to get the B-segment tax benefits. But for EVs, that doesn’t hold at all. S0, Mahindra has chosen to retain Tivoli’s original length which will be around 4.2m.[embedded content][embedded content]This size increment makes sure that XUV400’s boot space doesn’t suck like XUV300’s. Also, its proportions will be nicer. The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but we can immediately recognise the XUV300 Electric concept that Mahindra showcased at 2020 Auto Expo. It has the same shape for front headlights and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. The futuristic LED bulbs in concept will be replaced to accommodate practical bulbs.XUV400 Electric retains the closed-off grille and lower bumper design from its concept though. Production-spec model has a small air dam at the bottom which was closed off in the concept. Interior, however, was similar to the outgoing XUV300 and we expect Mahindra to give enough wow factors like Adreno-X infotainment and more.Powertrain & LaunchMahindra has also stated that XUV400 Electric will source high-energy-dense NMC cells from LG Chem. NMC cells are superior to the cylindrical LFP cells found on Nexon EV and EV Max. With this move, XUV300 Electric might be more powerful and have a longer range than Tata’s EVs.2022 Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV SpiedIn effect, we can expect around 150 bhp of power and over 400 km of range from a single charge. This will be enough to compete against the current highest-selling EVs, Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. Mahindra hasn’t yet announced a timeline for the launch of XUV400 Electric. But we can expect it to launch by the end of this year or Q1 2023. When launched, it will have all the features XUV300 has and then more.Currently, Nexon EV Prime prices start from Rs. 14.99 and get a 30.2 kWh battery and promise a claimed range of 312 km. The company will be expanding its flagship 650 range by introducing various new models.Numerous spy shots of the upcoming 650cc motorcycles have been spied on roads since last year. Another test mule of the supposed Shotgun 650 has been spotted testing recently and spy shots of the same have been circulating on the internet. The latest spy shots show two production-ready prototypes of the twin-cylinder motorcycle.Royal Enfield 650cc Shotgun Stuck In TrafficTwo test mules of the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc Shotgun have been spied together, credit to Motor Vaahan. They are stuck in traffic, giving us a closer look at the motorcycles. They are wearing hardly any camouflage, revealing finished body panels and fuel tank. This indicates that Royal Enfield is done with a major part of the developmental process for the bike.However, the recently spied test mules have a few subtle yet noticeable variations in comparison to the pre-production concept showcased earlier. The biggest difference is the split-style seats seen in the test units as opposed to a single rider’s seat shown in the concept model. The SG650 concept flaunted the looks of a single-seater bobber. It is likely that Royal Enfield will introduce multiple variants of Shotgun with multiple seating layouts.[embedded content][embedded content]From the looks of it, Shotgun 650 is more likely to be a 650cc equivalent of Classic 350 which is also available both in single- and dual-seat variants. The round headlight, side panels and fenders, all bear a striking resemblance to the concept. Unlike Cruiser 650, which is speculated to be named Super Meteor 650, this model gets centre-set footpegs and a straight handlebar.Expected Features & SpecsIn terms of features, it gets a twin-pod instrument cluster that will be a semi-digital unit instead of a fully digital unit seen in the SG650 concept. The smaller pod could be for Tripper Navigation which displays turn-by-turn navigation, although this feature is expected to be available as an optional accessory.Hardware configurations of Shotgun 650 will consist of a dual-cradle frame suspended on USD forks up front and twin shock absorbers at rear. Braking duties will be handled by single disc brakes at both ends and chewed down by ByBre callipers. These will be aided by a dual-channel ABS.Powering Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be the same 648cc oil-cooled, parallel-twin motor that performs duties on the current 650 Twins- Interceptor and Continental GT. This unit pushes out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch. The first among these is Hunter 350, which has shed a lot of bulk in comparison to Meteor and Classic 350.With Hunter 350, Royal Enfield will be targeting an entirely new segment of users. It can work for folks who are looking for a nimble-footed machine with retro profile. Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Spied Undisguised for the first time, credit to Surendar Jayavelu via Rushlane Spylane. There are multiple units seen in the photo. It looks like at a dealer yard. Colour options include monotone silver, dual tone white and blue, etc.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 dimensionsAs revealed in Type Approval certificate, Hunter 350 is 2,055 mm long, 800 mm wide, 1,055 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 1,370 mm. It is smaller and shorter in comparison to Classic and Meteor. Wheelbase is also smaller whereas width is more than Classis and less than Meteor. Gross volume weight is 360 kg, in comparison to 375 kg of Classic and 371 kg of Meteor. Hunter is likely to have a smaller fuel tank, as compared to 13-litre and 15-litre of Classic and Meteor, respectively.While Hunter’s kerb weight is not known at this point of time, it is likely to be around 160-170 kg. That’s a good 20-25 kg less than Classic (195 kg) and Meteor (191 kg). Being lightweight and using the same J-series 349.34 cc engine, Hunter 350 will have higher power-to-weight ratio. This will boost its capabilities in an urban environment. Opportunities for some high-speed fun on open roads and highways can also be explored.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Spied UndisguisedHunter 350 featuresHunter 350 has retro styling with features such as round headlamp and rear view mirrors. Other key highlights include fork gaiters, multi-spoke alloy wheels, compact seat design and stubby exhaust. The bike will have relaxed ergonomics with centrally placed footpegs and slightly raised handlebar.It is likely that Hunter 350 will have a semi-digital instrument console. As Royal Enfield will be aiming to make Hunter its most affordable bike, some premium  features will not be offered as standard. For example, Tripper navigation could be offered as an option.In terms of hardware, Hunter 350 will be borrowing most of the equipment from Meteor. It includes the twin downtube spine frame, suspended on telescopic front forks and twin tube emulsion shock absorbers at rear. The bike could get 300 mm and 270 mm disc at front and rear, respectively. Hunter 350 is likely to get same-sized wheels at both ends, as compared to 19-inch front and 17-inch rear used with Meteor.Powering the bike will be the 349cc motor that generates 20.2 bhp of max power at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh transmission. There are unlikely to be any performance tweaks for Hunter 350. Hunter 350 is scheduled to debut on August 7. The Japanese brand currently has a 25.53% market share in the month of June 2022.Honda is set to launch a new vehicle in India on 8th of August 2022. In the teaser, Honda announced that the “Formidable” is arriving in India. The word formidable made us think that it will be the Forza maxi-scooter with either a 125cc, 150cc, or 350cc powertrain. We have covered Forza maxi-scooters in detail in a previous post.Honda CRF300L Spotted In IndiaBut Honda is making the news again as a CRF300L has been spotted in a showroom in India. Honda’s CRF range refers to the brand’s motocross and dual-sport motorcycles that are built for most trails or terrains mother Earth can throw at it. They are very popular among off-road enthusiasts worldwide.We have heard about the CRF190L that is rumoured to launch in India competing against Hero XPulse 200 4V that recently got a new Rally Edition variant and a Rally Kit too. But the CRF300L being spotted at a Honda dealership in India certainly raises questions.Honda CRF300L 300cc ADV spied in IndiaHonda did a similar thing back in 2020 when they displayed a Forza 300 maxi-scooter at a BigWing dealership in Gurgaon. Four units were also sold to the public too. Maybe this is a similar drill where they want to gain market opinion and feedback regarding a product or a product category.Honda CRF300L is a handsome-looking machine for off-road purists and it gets a purposeful design too. It gets a motocross-style body along with a small squared-off headlight, up-swept exhaust, engine guard, and more. Honda CRF300L gets a 21” spoked wheel at front and an 18” spoked wheel at the rear like XPulse 200 4V and are shod with knobby tires.Specs & CompetitionIt gets non-adjustable Showa long-travel 43 mm USD forks at front and prolink suspension at the rear carving out a massive 285 mm of ground clearance. Front disc brake is 256 mm and the rear disc is 220 mm in diameter. It gets regular halogen bulbs all around and a modern LCD dashboard for instrumentation. The engine displaces 286 cc and makes 27 bhp of power and 26.6 Nm of torque. It gets a slip assist clutch and a 6-speed gearbox too. Honda CRF300L weighs around 142 kg and has a tall seat height of 880 mm. Honda has even patented the motorcycle in India.Honda CRF300L patented in IndiaWe are not sure what is the purpose of this CRF300L in India. But, if Honda ever launches it in India, it will be a strong opponent to the XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition for extreme off-roading. Because lightness is the key factor in off-roading rather than outright speed and power. In this regard, CRF300L is more powerful and at the same time, is also lighter than XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition. If we look at hardcore competitors, we have imports like Kawasaki KX and KLX series of motocross bikes with either 250 or 450 cc engines.Other competitors for softcore trail riding and other terrains, it can be comparable to Royal Enfield Himalayan, Yezdi Adventure, and KTM 390 Adventure. This says a lot about the scooter market in India.New Hero 125cc Scooter – Sporty DesignHero has scooters in its portfolio that rival Honda Activa series. At the lower end of the spectrum, Hero has Pleasure which is a 110cc scooter and at the top tier, it has Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125. But as sales figures indicate, both 125cc scooters from Hero are not in top 10.It is not that Hero’s 125cc engine doesn’t have any sauce: It does. It makes 9 bhp of power and 10.4 Nm of torque. This engine is also mated to Hero’s proprietary i3S technology which enables a stop/start feature improving fuel efficiency. It is the style, form factor and character that both the Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125 lacked. That’s where the new sporty scooter comes into play.New Hero 125cc Scooter SpiedThanks to Shifting-Gears, a new Hero scooter has been spied under testing with heavy camouflage. This new scooter dons a much more sporty and edgy design than the current scooters on sale by Hero. It gets an LED headlight set up on the front fascia like NTorq, RayZR and Avenis instead of on the handlebar like Activa, Jupiter and Access. This gives it a sporty appeal and enhances looks further, is an interesting LED DRL pattern. It is likely to be powered by 125cc engine.New Hero Scooter – Features & LaunchIt also gets storage compartments below the instrument console like other Hero scooters and will also get USB phone charging too. This upcoming scooter gets a switchable i3S button on the right switch gear. At the rear, it gets an ‘X’ shaped LED tail-light and normal halogen turn indicators.Hero should have given a smoked effect to the tail-light cover as they did with Xtreme 160R making it look sportier. A glaring omission on this scooter according to us, is an external fuel filler cap which would drastically aid user comfort while refueling.New Hero 125cc Scooter SpiedSuspension setup is a normal telescopic unit at front and twin shockers at the rear. Hero 125cc sporty scooter might get 12” wheels that are machine cut alloys in this top-spec trim along with a front disc brake too. We can expect steel wheels and drum brakes with lower variants. We also expect Hero to give the XTec system on this scooter too. The instrumentation screen is new which is a rectangular fully-digital LCD panel with expected features like trip meters, odometer, clock, fuel-level indicator and Bluetooth connectivity with notifications and turn-by-turn navigation.Hero MotoCorp has not revealed any details about this upcoming scooter yet. But it could be launched around the festive season and is likely to be priced on par with Maestro Edge. It also gets the same alloy wheel design as the Meteor 350 but Royal Enfield can change the wheel sizes on Hunter 350 or retain 19″ size at front and 17″ size at the rear.All the lights including the turn indicators will get halogens owing to its low price bracket. It gets a single-piece seat instead of a split-seat setup. Hunter 350 also gets a stubby exhaust which looks shorter in length and narrower too.Royal Enfield will equip it with disc brakes at both ends, but it is not yet known whether it will get single-channel or dual-channel ABS. We have also spotted multiple instrument clusters on Hunter 350. Some have a tripper screen while others don’t. Hunter 350 might drop the tripper screen on the final model due to chip shortage.Royal Enfield Hunter 350Royal Enfield Hunter 350 – CompetitionBut there’s something missing in the equation that Royal Enfield is typically associated with, size. Royal Enfield’s new bike gets a lean and athletic body while the rest of the portfolio looks much bigger in size. Hunter 350 doesn’t look like a big motorcycle at all. It doesn’t have the sense of substantialness that Royal Enfield motorcycles are associated with. Hunter 350 will be pitted as an entry-level offering by Royal Enfield. So, it attracts a lot of customers that are upgrading from a Pulsar 150 or something.But making it smaller will also reduce the overall weight and this will attract a lot of first-time bike buyers that would have scoffed at 185 – 205 kg weight of other Royal Enfield bikes. Thus attracting a lot more footfall into their showrooms. Hunter 350 is expected to launch on August 7th.
