  • Royal Enfield 650 Owner Rides New Honda CB350 – Shares His Views

    Image – Abhinav Bhatt
Most Royal Enfield fans take their bikes seriously and it’s unlikely that they will be tempted to switch to some other product

So, how would they react if asked to ride the newly launched Honda H’ness CB350 and share their feedback? Will they share some good words about CB350 or just reject it outright? Well, this is exactly what YouTube vlogger Abhinav Bhatt has tried to find out.
For this job, Abhinav chose his friend Srinivas Ganesh, who has been using Royal Enfield motorcycles since several years. Srini started out with Royal Enfield Classic 350 and currently rides Interceptor 650. In between, he had also owned a Harley Davidson Fat Boy.
For a more realistic comparison and feedback, Abhinav asked Srini to ride CB350 for around 40 km in both city traffic and highway. Below is the video that has all the details about what a Royal Enfield user thinks about Honda CB350.
    [embedded content]
    Interceptor 650 owner’s feedback on Honda CB350
Similar to positive opinions that many people have expressed about CB350, Srini also has a lot of good things to say about Honda’s rival to Classic 350 and upcoming Meteor 350. Starting with the ride quality, CB350 comes across as a nice, comfortable bike with close to zero vibrations. This is when the riding speed is around 70-80 kmph. CB350 performed well in both city traffic and highways, although acceleration was on the lower side in comparison to Interceptor 650.
However, this was expected as Interceptor comes from a higher segment and is especially designed for racing. On the other hand, CB350 is built for comfortable cruising at around 80-90 kmph. According to Srini, CB350’s seat is at intermediate level, neither too soft, nor too hard. This could be good for long distance touring.
Among the things that Srini liked about CB350 is its sweet thumping exhaust note. This also matches general perceptions, where many people have felt that CB350 exhaust note is more refined as compared to that of Classic 350.
In terms of looks, Interceptor 650 is clearly the more attractive. CB350 is an elegant looking bike, but it does not have the sporty, bad-boy character like Interceptor. This again is understandable, as these motorcycles belong to different segments. Another interesting thing to note is that CB350 comes with metal fenders, whereas the ones on Interceptor are probably made from composite material.
Which one to choose in Rs 3 lakh budget
While CB350 and Interceptor 650 are not direct rivals, people with a budget of around Rs 3 lakh can still be thinking about both options. The question that will confront them is why not upgrade to a higher capacity bike by investing Rs 80k more. Honda CB 350 has an on road price of Rs 2.18 lakh while RE 650 is priced at about Rs 3 lakhs. Such a scenario seems quite possible. More

  • Royal Enfield 650 Enduro Render Gives A Glimpse Of Production Scrambler

    Royal Enfield 650 Enduro Render
Royal Enfield has plans to launch multiple new motorcycles based on the 650cc engine and platform

Royal Enfield motorcycles have been modified and digitally rendered in many forms and their basic structure even supports all kinds of modifications. This is why Royal Enfield motorcycles are so popular in after-market customisation. Not just in India but also abroad, the brand has a remarkable fan following.
Over the years we have across many such designs that might inspire the Chennai-based manufacturer to take them to production levels. Images of one such design have come across in the form of Enduro 650 which seems to be based on Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Facebook user Motoskteches has uploaded these renderings to his social media page.

While previous design renderings based on Scrambler 650 have trended on the internet on multiple occasions, the user in this case claims that it is purely an Endurance bike. One might find it difficult to distinguish between a scrambler and a traditional enduro. However, the latter looks inclined to travel on broken or no tarmac whereas the former looks more content to take the streets.
    Design
One highlight, as shown in the pictures, are the tyres with a distinct thicker profile at rear in comparison to the front just as typical enduro bikes. The wheels, however, are of 21-inch size for front and 17-inch at rear. The Enduro 650 is equipped with spoke wheels but anything other than that would surely look like a misfit in an enduro.
Signature enduro elements such as minimum body panels, upright stance and high ground clearance are common to these images. The bikes also get high-mounted fenders on front and rear thus leaving a huge gap between them and the wheels.

Rest of the bike gets the same retro-classic touch with round headlamps, round taillights, a flat seat and a tall handlebar. The Facebook user says that this bike will run on limited electronic gimmicks and technological gadgets and it will be more about the mechanical character which adds to the riding pleasure.
As the designer puts it, the said bike has been rendered as an old-fashioned Enduro which is simple, logical, very practical and could be offered at an affordable cost.
Current range of 650cc motorcycles from Royal Enfield
Only time can tell whether Royal Enfield will go for an Endurance motorcycle by expanding its 650cc range. They could plan to launch a scrambler based on the 650cc platform. Currently, the brand’s 650 range of bikes consists of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. A cruiser codenamed KX650 is also in the pipelines as it has been spotted on a couple of occasions recently. The 649cc parallel-twin air-cooled motor is capable of generating 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque.

    Exports dip
Exports on the other hand were under pressure in the past month. Dispatches to global markets stood at 4,131 units, down 11.01 percent as against 4,642 units exported in Sept 2019. However, when assessing MoM growth, it was a significant 60.55 percent increase as against 2,573 units exported in Aug 20.
Royal Enfield Sep 2020 Exports vs Sep 2019 vs Aug 2020
In global markets, it is the RE 650 Twins, Himalayan and Classic 350 that claimed top spots while the Classic 500 and Bullet 500 also added some numbers along with the TB350 Unlike in domestic markets where the Bullet 350 and Electra 350 are much in demand, these two bikes do not find any buyers globally.
Royal Enfield has recently announced local assembly of its motorcycle range in Argentina along with Grupo Simpa, who have been the company’s local distributors since 2018. This will be the first time that Royal Enfield motorcycles will be assembled and produced outside of the company’s Chennai plant in India.
    Royal Enfield Sales Analysis
Though the YoY increase is negligible, when comparing sales of Sept 20 with that of Aug 20, there was a significant increase of 17.53 percent. The company had sold 47,571 units in August 20 signalling a revival in customer sentiments following the ill effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and with Unlock 5.0 in place.

Each bike in the company lineup noted a MoM sales increase which was especially notable in the case of the 650 Twins with a surge of 124.53 percent to 1,190 units in Sept 20 over 530 units sold in August 20. Considering the fact that overall two wheeler sales have revived in Sept 20 over that of August 20 indicates that demand is heating up especially in view of the need for more personal means of travel as against use of public transport to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The bike is now priced between Rs.1,61,688 and Rs. 1,86,319 and is available in single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS variants. Royal Enfield had also planned to bring in a next gen Classic 350 but plans have been delayed to beyond April 2021.

Initially slated for a festive launch, this highly awaited cruiser is now expected only after Diwali. The Meteor 350 will be based on the company’s J platform and will be offered in three variants of Fireball, Stellar and a range-topping Supernova. The Meteor 350 is likely to carry a price tag of Rs.1.75 lakhs and will rival the recently launched Honda H’ness CB 350 in its segment. More

Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser Black Colour Render

The Royal Enfield 650 Twin platform is all set to spawn a third product sooner than later. The prototypes of the 650 cc cruiser has started testing regularly on public roads as evident from the latest spyshots.

Our in-house design specialist Pratyush Rout went to the drawing board after carefully examining both the prototype which appeared to be featuring make-shift fuel tank as well as the KX Concept. The end result is this speculative rendering of the Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser.
Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser Red Colour Render
As you can see, the upcoming product has all the bearings of a good-looking cruiser which could stand shoulder to shoulder with a premium offering such as the Harley Davidson Street 750.
With Harley Davidson withdrawing from India, the upcoming twin-cylinder cruiser will have an unchallenged run in its niche. The low-slung Royal Enfield Thumper complies with textbook cruiser styling.
Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser Blue Colour Render
The split seats, thick rear mud-guard and high-profile rear tyre render the motorcycle a premium appeal. From the looks of it, the new RE cruiser appears to be a comfortable mile muncher. We expect the manufacturer to come up with an array of touring accessories for its flagship product.
    Specifications
Developed primarily by Royal Enfield’s UK tech center, the 650 Cruiser is specc’ed to meet global medium displacement standards. The salient features include an upside down front telescopic forks, black finished alloy wheels, chrome twin exhaust canisters, twin rear shock absorbers, and front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. The production version is expected to be equipped with LED headlamps and digi-analog instrument console.
Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser Teal Colour – Render
Power will come from the familiar 648 cc parallel-twin, air-cooled engine which dishes out 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque. Royal Enfield is expected to engineer the 6-speed transmission to offer good low end grunt and effortless highway cruising. The power output makes the motorcycle eligible for A2 license holders in Europe who form an important audience base for a product with global aspirations.
    Launch timeline
Royal Enfield is currently occupied in introducing the Meteor 350, the first product of its long-awaited series of next gen models based on the modular J platform. The company’s plans to introduce one new model every quarter of 2020 have been affected by the ongoing pandemic crisis, so we may not see the new Classic 350 before April 2021. The delays indicate that the Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser may not be ready before the second half of 2021. Expect the prices to undercut the Rs 4 lakh mark (on-road). More

  • Royal Enfield Launches Service To Officially Modify Motorcycles Before Delivery

Royal Enfield Make-It-Yours / MiY is an initiative offering customers the power to personalize and accessorize motorcycles at the time of purchase itself
Modified Royal Enfield image for reference

Each biker wants a motorcycle which is different than others. This gives the owner a sense of identity and self expression making the bike truly their own in every respect. With no OEM offering modification service, bikers go to aftermarket specialists, which may or may not provide legal mods.
Royal Enfield has recognized this need and has introduced Make-It-Yours initiative for its motorcycles. In the first phase, only the 650 Twins will be offered under this new service. Buyers of these two motorcycles will be able to modify their motorcycle, right at the time of booking via the Royal Enfield App or at their stores.
    First of its kind initiative
The Royal Enfield Make-It-Yours MiY is the first of its kind motorcycle personalization initiative. It is offered only on two of the bikes in the company lineup as on date, but plans are to introduce this to other models in the company portfolio in a phased manner.
The App based 3-D configurator will allow customers to select from a range of personalization choices be it in terms of colour, trims and graphics. Customers will also have access to genuine motorcycle accessories at the time of making bookings.
Leaked photo of customized RE Meteor 350

RE 650 Twins Awards and Price Hike
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, launched in 2018 has shot to fame. It was recently crowned the Best Retro Bike of the Year 2020 by MCN, UK. It may be recalled that it was also the recipient of MCN’s Best Naked Motorcycle of the Year 2019 and several other awards.
In its BS6 avatar, the two flagship motorcycles which were launched in March 2020, received a price hike in September. Launch price of the Interceptor 650, which stood between Rs.2.65-2.86 lakhs has been revised to Rs.2.67-2.88 lakhs. The Continental GT 650, launched at Rs.2.81-3.02 lakhs now starts of at Rs.2.82 lakhs to go up to Rs.3.03 lakhs. Upcoming RE launches include new gen Thunderbird called Meteor 350, new gen Classic 350 and an all new 650cc Cruiser. More

  • Upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser New Spy Shot – Launch 2021

Launch of the Upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser is expected to take place in the second half of 2021

The Royal Enfield 650 Twin engine has given the retro classic brand a solid credibility in the medium displacement segment not only in India but also in international markets. Thanks to the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, Royal Enfield is gaining more and more visibility on a global scale. So, it makes logical sense for the company to milk this engine as much as possible and come up with more body styles.
    Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser
Royal Enfield’s intention to come up with a medium displacement twin-cylinder premium cruiser was first revealed by the KX Concept which debuted at EICMA in Milan, Italy, last year.
The company did not announce any solid plans to come up with a production version, but the twin-cylinder cruiser is well on its way to the market, as evident form the recently spotted near-production prototype.

The same has now been spotted again. While Royal Enfield hinted that a possible production version of the KX would get a 834 cc engine, we have reasons to believe that the final production version is likely to carry forward the existing 650 Twin without much changes. For starters, the prototype sports a single front disc which is atypical of a product with higher displacement.
    Royal Enfield 650 Twin
On board the Interceptor and Continental GT, the 648 cc parallel-twin engine develops 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque. We expect the cruiser to have identical power outputs but the 6-speed gearbox is likely to feature tweaked ratios to promote better bottom end torque for the typical cruiser riding experience.
    Suspension and brakes
The Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser features upside-down front telescopic forks and regular twin-rear shock absorbers. Just like its siblings, the upcoming model employs twin silencers. Braking system consists of a disc brake at either end. The alloy wheels come shod with generously proportioned tyres.
    Launch
The Royal Enfield 650 cruiser is expected to undertake an extensive testing regime which means we are not likely to see the launch happening in 2020. The company’s immediate focus is to introduce its next generation range of 350 cc models based on the new platform.
The next motorcycles which will be launched by Royal Enfield, will be the Meteor 350 and Classic 350. Meteor 350 launch has been pushed back to post Diwali 2020 period while that of Classic 350 has been pushed back to post April 2021. Launch of the RE 650 cruiser will take place after that, most likely by Diwali 2021. Once launched, it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4 lakhs, on-road. More

  • New Royal Enfield Classic 350 Delayed To 2021 – 250cc Project Cancelled

The new Royal Enfield Classic 350 will be a very important volume for the brand’s endeavour to neutralize rising competition
    Image – Hriday

Royal Enfield was originally supposed to enter into the BS6 era with all guns blazing. On test since 2018, the new gen Classic 350 as well as the Meteor 350 were originally planned for launch by March 2020. Its Oct 2020, and none of these motorcycles have been launched yet.
Delays in product development and capacity expansion has forced the company to take interim measures and introduce updated versions of its older models. Then the pandemic dealt yet another serious blow that has pushed the launch timeline even further.
New Royal Enfield Classic 350 launch delayed
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the Thunderbird replacement, is not here in time to take full advantage of the festive season. ET reports that the new Royal Enfield Classic 350 will likely be delayed beyond April 2021. This would make volume recovery in the medium term more challenging than anticipated.
Royal Enfield’s original plan was to introduce one new product every quarter of this financial year and we have already entered the third quarter and nothing happened except multiple leaks of the Meteor 350. With competition stepping up, it is important for the medium-displacement specialist to get its new Classic 350 in the market at the earliest.
New Gen Royal Enfield Classic 350 has been on test since 2018. Image – Vilvakumar P
Entry level quarter liter variant axed
ET also reports that the entry-level volume oriented 250 cc product, internally known as Project V, has been shelved as the company has decided to prioritize profit market over outright sales numbers. The target is reported to be a 25% EBIDTA margin for 50,000 units a month. The company is planning to achieve this by improving its cost structure.
New Royal Enfield Classic 350 – Specifications
The next generation Classic 350 will be based on the new modular J Platform that will underpin the brand’s new family of 350 cc models. The test prototypes seemed to be sporting ad-hoc body panels but one can expect the new Classic to wear old-school charm while also offering modern features like LED headlamps, digital instrument console (at least partially digital unit), new paint schemes and so on. We hope that RE retains the spoke wheels and other chrome bits to keep the nostalgia alive.
The new generation 350 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine will be shared with the soon-to-be-launched Meteor. The air-cooled motor produces 20.2 hp and 27 Nm of torque on board the Meteor. Transmission is a 5-speed unit.
We don’t expect the motor to undergo any significant changes on board the new Classic. It is reasonable to assume that the new Royal Enfield Classic will feature front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS and conventional suspension system comprising telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. Expect prices to be in the range of Rs 1.6 lakhs to Rs 2 lakhs, ex-sh.

  • Royal Enfield Meteor Launch Delayed – Is Honda CB350 The Reason?

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 was planned for launch earlier this year – But has not seen the light of day yet

Eagerly awaited by Royal Enfield fans, Meteor 350 launch has been delayed yet again. This new gen Royal Enfield motorcycle was supposed to be a replacement to the Thunderbird range, which was discontinued ahead of BS6 implementation. Minus the Covid-19 situation, the Meteor was planned for launch in April 2020. But pandemic struck and plans were derailed.
Next reported launch date planned, was sometime in 3rd week of September 2020. Brochures had already leaked by then, revealing all information. Dealers were given detailed seminars over web. But then out of nowhere, came Honda Motorcycle India. Just when RE was all set to launch Meteor 350, Honda teased a cruiser motorcycle.
    Honda Surprises Royal Enfield?
And in a few days time, Honda launched their Royal Enfield rival, Highness CB350. No one was expecting Honda to launch this. There were rumours, yes. But a proper Royal Enfield rival from Honda, was expected to be more of a dream, than a reality. From first teaser to official launch, it was all so fast that not only fans, it seems that even Royal Enfield has been caught offguard by this move from Honda Motorcycle India.
    Customized Royal Enfield Meteor 350
Is Honda CB350 the reason why Royal Enfield has not launched Meteor 350 yet? We will never know the real reason. What we do know, is that the launch of Royal Enfield M350 has now been delayed yet again. Economic Times report states that the launch is now pushed beyond Diwali 2020, that effectively is end of the year 2020.
As per the report by ET, the reason for delay in launching RE is supply chain issues. Also, Royal Enfield is developing a new smartphone app, called MYO – Make Your Own Royal Enfield. They plan to launch the app along with the launch of Meteor 350. This explains, the leaked multiple customized editions of the Meteor 350.
RE’s official reponse to ET – “The company reviews and revises plans based on strategic considerations and market conditions. Beyond this, we cannot comment on speculation.
    Royal Enfield Meteor 350 features
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 will be offered in three variants – Fireball, Stellar and Supernova. Each of these variants will be distinguishable by their colour, body graphics, and list of features. For example, the top-spec Supernova trim will be equipped with dual-tone colour scheme, chrome indicators, machined alloy wheels, premium seat upholstery and a windscreen.
Features that will be common across all three variants of Meteor 350 include Tripper Navigation (turn-by-turn navigation), Bluetooth connectivity and USB charger. Another update is an all-new digi-analog instrument cluster that displays a wide range of information such as fuel bar graph, odometer / tripmeter, service reminder, gear indicator, low battery, low fuel indicator, turn indicators and high beam.
    Royal Enfield Meteor 350 engine
The current range of Royal Enfield motorcycles have already been updated to comply with BS6 emission norms. However, Meteor 350 will get a new BS6 engine that utilizes an SOHC setup. In comparison, the current 350 cc engine comes with the older push-rod tech.
Meteor 350’s new engine is capable of delivering 20.2 bhp of max power and 27 Nm of max torque. In comparison, the current 350 cc engine churns out 19.8 bhp and 28 Nm. So, the new engine gains 0.4 bhp whereas torque output has reduced by 1 Nm. Price is expected to be about Rs 1.7 lakhs, ex-sh.
