      Updated 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan is all set to be launched in India in the coming days

      One of the popular adventure-ready motorcycles in the country, Royal Enfield Himalayan will soon be launched in its updated avatar. Himalayan has been witnessing good demand in global markets as well and is currently the second most exported Royal Enfield motorcycle. The updated model could help boost sales further.
      Updated Himalayan design and colours
      In terms of design, updated Himalayan will be largely the same as earlier. A few minor changes can be incorporated, for example, a redesign of the metal frame mounted near the fuel tank. In the current model, the frame has been reported to inconvenience some taller riders, as it used to touch the knees.
      In the updated variant, the frame looks smaller and more forward-set. This will hopefully address any issues that riders may have faced when riding the current model.
      In line with the company’s strategy to increase personalization options for customers, 2021 Himalayan will get new colour options. These are shades of silver, matte black and pine green.

      It is possible that some existing colours such as solid white may be discontinued. In its current iteration, Himalayan is offered in colour options of Gravel Grey, Sleet Grey, Snow White, Granite Black, Rock Red, and Lake Blue.
      Updated Himalayan to get Tripper navigation
      One of the most important updates for 2021 Himalayan will be Tripper navigation, which was introduced for the first time with Royal Enfield Meteor 350. A segment-first feature, Tripper navigation is advantageous for users, as it does away with the need to use the mobile screen for turn-by-turn navigation. Tripper navigation system has a dedicated display unit located near the main instrument console, which displays the navigational arrows for the destination.
      For using Tripper navigation, users just need to pair it with their smartphone and use the Royal Enfield app to get directions to the destination. It is to note that Tripper display only shows navigational arrows and not calls or messages.
      2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan Granite Black
      Engine will be the same as the current model, a 411 cc BS6, air cooled, FI unit that is capable of churning out 24.3 bhp of max power and 32 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. It was expected that power and torque output may be increased on the updated Himalayan – but that is not going to be the case.
      Mechanical parts will be the same as earlier such as the half-duplex split cradle frame, 41 mm telescopic front forks and monoshock with linkage suspension at the rear. Braking duties are performed by 300 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear. Himalayan is offered with dual-channel ABS (switchable to single channel).
      With the updates, new Himalayan could cost slightly higher. The current model retails in the range of Rs 1.91 lakh to Rs 1.96 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).

The restaurant has put up huge banners and lined up 5 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 bikes on the verandah each to be given off free to the person who can go through an entire thali, aptly named “Bullet Thali”.
      The hotel owner, Atul Waikar, being a foodie and avid biker has put up this notice outside the hotel calling in biking aficionados to take part in this thali challenge. 5 brand new Bullet bikes, worth Rs.1.65-1.70 lakhs are also lined up outside the eatery ready to be presented to the person who can go through the Bullet Thali.
      The Catch
      The only catch line is, that to be declared a winner, the person has to go through a complete non-vegetarian ‘Bullet Thali’ consisting of 12 dishes made with 4 kilograms of mutton and fish in 60 minutes flat. As per the owner, about 65 thalis are sold every single day.
      Each thali which is priced at Rs.2,500 consists of 16 starters and a host of main dishes, comprising of surmai fry, pomfret fish fry, prawn biryani, sol kadi, chicken sukka, dry mutton, mutton masala and more.
      Bullet Thali is so big in size, that it needs 2 servers for serving to the table.
      Many have come and tried to finish this thali but have failed. Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ashok Jadhav stated that he is going to try to finish this thali in the hope of winning a Bullet bike. A Pune medico, Dr. Reeana F. Irani, a foodie-cum-bike lover, has also said that she would be attempting this challenge.
      1 Winner Rides Away with Free Bullet 350
      Even as many have attempted this challenge and failed, one person from Sholapur has been successful in stripping the Bullet Thali clean. Last week, Somnath Pawar of Sholapur entered the restaurant and ordered the Bullet Thali.
      He was the cynosure of all customers as he polished off the thali in 1 hour and was handed over the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 as his prize. However, there are four more bikes to be won.
      This is not the first time that Waikar has come with such an innovative challenge. He started this eatery 8 years ago and currently offers the Bakasur Chicken Thali, Sarkar Mutton Thali and Pahelwan Mutton Thali and Malvani Fish Thali, each costing Rs.2,500. The Special Ravan Thali was a part of a challenge last year wherein the winner stood to take home Rs.5,000 on competing the thali and the bill also waived off.

      350cc Motorcycle Sales Dec 2020 – Honda CB350 vs RE Meteor, Bullet, Electra

      350cc motorcycle segment is dominated by Royal Enfield. Has been for the longest time. It’s only in recent years that there has been a continuity of new launches in the 300 – 400cc segment by other manufacturers. 350cc segment sales grew in December 2020.
      Royal Enfield’s contribution was just shy of 62k units. Of this, Classic 350 took the lion’s share at 39,321 units, up 35 percent from 29,121 units in December 2019. MoM wholesales were stable with November 2020 numbers reported at 39,391 units.
      Bullet 350 numbers were reported at 10,480 units at about 16 percent decline, down from 12,467 units. MoM growth is reported at 60.91 percent, up from 6,513 units at volume gain of 3,967 units.
      Meteor 350, the manufacturer’s newest launch saw sales reported at 8,569 units to surpass Electra 350. MoM growth was reported at 21.87 percent, up from 7,031 units. The latter accounted for 3,490 units at 4.15 percent decline, down from 3,641 units. MoM sales decline is reported at 4.15 percent, down from 3,641 units.

      Honda CB350, also a fairly new launch saw wholesales listed at 1,564 units. MoM sales decline is reported at 61.54 units. This can be attributed to initial sales boost on account of new launch during the festive season.
      Royal Enfield Meteor 350 sales crossed 15k units in 2 months since while Honda CB350 sales are under 7k units in 3 months since launch.
      Together, 350cc wholesales for December 20 stood at 63,424 units at 40.23 percent growth. Volumes grew by 18,195 units, up from 45,229 units. MoM growth is reported at 4.85 percent for the 350cc segment, up from 60,492 units at volume gain of 2,932 units.
      Interestingly, both new bikes, Meteor 350 and Honda CB350 have garnered much public interest. While Royal Enfield has a steady sales source through its nationwide network, Honda is playing catch up. As the manufacturer has chosen to sell its 350 units from BigWing dealerships. Consequently, one can expect steady focus on this network being built at speed to cater to a wider market.

      Also, this is the first time Honda has decided to tap into this segment for its Indian business. Considering a launch in late 2020 to maximise benefits of the festive season, the MY21 models are now available at a slightly revised price. Given that manufacturers have increased prices across entire product ranges starting 2021.
      350cc motorcycle exports from India
      Surprisingly, Royal Enfield’s 350cc exports for December 2020 were on the decline while Honda CB 350 gained. As a result, Honda CB 350 exports for last month topped the table at 510 units. In the export front, the bike will also head to Japan. MoM exports gained by over 400 units from 92 units the month prior.
      Classic 350 exports fell 27.44 percent, down from 328 units. MoM decline is reported at 67.26 percent, down from 727 units. Meteor 350 numbers stood at 94 units. MoM decline us reported at 62.55 percent, down from 251 units. No units of Electra or Bullet were exported in the period under consideration. More

      A special bike ambulance has been developed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to attend to urgent evacuation needs of security personnel in the event of a medical emergency or battle injury.
      This new bike ambulance, is based on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycles. It is called ‘Rakshita’ and have been successfully launched in Delhi today, on Monday 18th January 2021.
      Royal Enfield Modified As Rakshita Ambulance
      These modified Royal Enfield motorcycles consist of a single seat for the rider and a reclining seat with straps at the rear for the patient. The patient can be either in a sitting or sleeping position depending on the injury. It also includes a stretcher with wheels and emergency medical facilities such as neck brace and an oxygen cylinder.
      Ambulance siren is also a part of its features along with three beacons, two of which are fitted in the front and one at the rear with a GPS enabled tablet. The bike ambulance can tackle the most challenging of road conditions and get the injured to the nearest hospital or to be airlifted by a helicopter for emergency treatment.

      Rakshita ambulances are particularly useful in Naxalite and Maoist affected areas where the roads are so narrow that no regular ambulance can be accommodated. Security personnel in these areas are in constant danger of encounters, attacks and injuries and deaths are commonplace
      Particularly in the regions of Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada etc. It was found that due to these constraints of narrow roads, medical assistance was delayed thus making the situation even more critical.
      Bike Ambulances from Hero MotoCorp
      Earlier in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic first struck, Hero MotoCorp also donated 60 mobile ambulances to the Government of India to reach out to patients in rural and remote areas so as to get them to the nearest hospitals on time.

      These were custom built motorcycles with engine capacity of 150cc and above. Hero MotoCorp fitted these bike ambulances with sleeping arrangements for the patient and essential medical equipment such as first aid kit, oxygen cylinder, fire extinguisher and siren.
      Nationwide, the importance of motorcycles extends well beyond just being daily commuter vehicles. Companies have in recent times as part of their CSR activity offered bikes for patrolling purposes in feasible areas.

      In other areas, motorcycles function as carriers for medical emergency. yet in other locales, bikes function as recce vehicles for fire incidents. This functionality is undisputed in urban areas where lanes are narrow, and underdeveloped areas where roads don’t exist. As such motorcycles have often been primed to make inroads where other vehicles are unable to pass through.

      Royal Enfield 650 Cruiser Spied With Pillion Backrest In New Spy Shots

      Going by the latest spy shots, there could be multiple variants of KX650 cruiser which offer different riding dynamics

      Royal Enfield a couple of months ago announced that it will be launching at least one model every quarter for the next seven years and it set the ball rolling with the launch of its new cruiser Meteor 350. This motorcycle features a brand new chassis and engine which marks the beginning of the new generation of motorcycles from the bikemaker.
      The brand is looking to extend its line of cruiser motorcycles as it is planning to launch a cruiser bike on the 650cc platform. Internally codenamed KX650, this motorcycle has been spotted testing on multiple occasions in recent months. It draws its design inspirations and its name from KX Bobber Concept displayed at EICMA in 2019.
      It has now been spied once again, but this time with an added accessory – pillion backrest. Earlier spy shots of the Cruiser 650 did not feature a pillion backrest. The latest one, credit to automotive enthusiast Deepak, shows the upcoming 650 cruiser with a pillion backrest.
      Two new 650 Twins Incoming
      Earlier sets of images showed test riders sitting in a typical feet-forward cruiser-like position. However, in the new crop of images, the test rider is seen in a more conventional riding position with his feet coming straight downward rather than forward. The foot-pegs are more towards centre rather than forward.

      On the earlier spotted test mule, rear subframe of the bike was not visible which is visible in the current images. Also the motorcycle spied earlier had a visibly longer rear fender than the current test mule.
      Looking at this motorcycle, it misses out on a long, low stance which could be seen in the test mules of earlier spy shots. This gives us an indication that this might be a totally different model based on the same platform and featuring the same engine. One could be the cruiser, while the other could be the Classic 650 or the Meteor 650.
      Different dynamics
      However, hardware setup in this iteration of the 650cc cruiser is likely to differ from those found in 650 Twins- Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. This bike features metal tubing along its sides which is contrasting with the one spotted earlier. Its suspension setup will be slightly different as it will consist of upside-down USD forks at front and twin shocks at rear which is mounted at a greater angle than what is seen on 650 Twins.
      The test mule seen in the last images does not look like the final production-spec model. However, with Royal Enfield’s aggressive launch plans, we can expect this bike to make its debut sometime later this year itself. Other notable additions seen on this test bike are a wraparound engine guard, a tall windscreen and mounting points for rear pillion grab rails.
      Expected Powertrain Specs
      Coming to its powertrain, it will be powered by the same 648cc parallel-twin air-cooled motor which does its duty on the Interceptor and Continental GT. This unit pushes out an output of 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. More details on this are likely to be revealed by Royal Enfield in the coming few months.       If you are a Royal Enfield fan, there is a lot to be cheerful about in 2021 as the retro classic brand is gearing up for a new product launches in regular intervals. Royal Enfield has plans to launch one new motorcycle every 4 months in India.
      While things are going to start with model year refreshes and minor updates, quite a few next-generation thumpers are in the pipeline for later this year. We all know the new 650 cc cruiser is on its way but RE has surprised by testing another twin-cylinder prototype that we believe to be the Classic 650!

      A recent spyshot of accessorized 650 cruiser was actually wrongly identified. The prototype featured a conventional roadster riding posture compared to the previously spied cruiser test mule‘s feet-forward stance. Not just that, the accessorized test mule also featured considerably higher seat height.
      We have come across a new spy shot of the mystery Royal Enfield 650 roadster in question, parked alongside a new gen Classic 350 prototype. The image is credit to automotive enthusiast Ganesan.

      As you can see, they both share quite a lot in common in terms of basic design elements – circular headlamps, almond shaped fuel tank, split seats and roughly same seat height – and ergonomics. The motorcycle features black alloy wheels, front and rear discs, twin exhaust pipes, and an eccentrically mounted circular instrument dial.

      Though the engine of the 650cc Classic is seen in black, it is likely that it is just a cover. As the spy shot shows that the cover is broken at one point, and one can clearly see the chrome / silver engine underneath.
      Why Classic 650 when you already have Interceptor 650?
      The Royal Enfield Classic 650 would be an ideal spiritual successor to the now defunct 500 cc variant which had a sizeable fan following. More powerful and refined twin-cylinder engine, the trademark retro design and a nameplate with huge brand recall make for a compelling combo.

      To give you a perspective, more than half of RE’s sales volume is accounted for by the Classic 350; which is at the end of its life cycle and this shows how strong the Classic brand is. So, why not augment it with a 650 variant?
      While the Interceptor 650 already covers the medium displacement roadster niche for RE, the company appears to be confident that there is sufficient difference in the appeal of the Classic 650 to have it alongside. The inverted telescopic fork, split seats with removable pillion unit and an old-school body-coloured headlamp housing distance the Royal Enfield Classic 650 from its sibling.
      Powertrain
      In its existing state of tune, the motor produces 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed transmission. We may see a minor tweak to the gear ratios to suite the Royal Enfield Classic 650’s relaxed mile-munching nature. With more variants being spun off the same platform, RE would be able to leverage the economies of scale to come up with very competitive pricing for its upcoming products. More

      Similar to trends witnessed in the past, most automakers have increased prices of their products at the beginning of new year

      In the two-wheeler segment, most products by Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj, KTM, Kawasaki, and others have undergone a price hike. Honda has also increased prices across the range including CB350 that was launched last year in September.
      Royal Enfield Meteor and Classic price hike – January 2021
      Talking about Royal Enfield Classic 350, its prices have been increased for all variants. The entry-level single-channel ABS version now costs Rs 1.63 lakh, an increase of Rs 1,873. The top-spec version that comes with dual-channel ABS along with other features is now available at Rs 1.88 lakh. This is an increase of Rs 2,045.

      Classic 350 is currently the undisputed king in 200cc-500cc motorcycle segment, commanding a market share of around 50%. It will soon be launched in its next-gen avatar, wherein it will be getting an engine and platform upgrade, Tripper navigation and a host of other features. CB350 and Meteor 350 sales are also rising, but it remains to be seen if they can maintain the momentum.
      Royal Enfield has also increased prices of its products including Meteor 350 and Classic 350. Meteor 350 was launched in November last year and it came with a range of updates such as new engine, new chassis and first-in-segment Tripper navigation. Meteor is available in three variants, Fireball, Stellar and Supernova.

      Meteor Fireball now costs Rs 1,78,744, an increase of Rs 2,927 over the earlier price. Stellar and Supernova variants now cost Rs 1,84,337 and Rs 1,93,656, an increase of Rs 3,010 and Rs 3,146, respectively. This makes Meteor Supernova variant costlier than top-spec DLX Pro variant of CB350.

      CB350 was launched at a starting price of Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom), which made it expensive than rivals Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Classic 350 right from start. Honda is not known to adopt an aggressive pricing policy for its premium products and the same has been the case with CB350. The motorcycle is offered in two variants, DLX and DLX Pro, both of which have undergone a price revision.
      Honda CB350 DLX new price is Rs 1,86,500, which is an increase of Rs 1.5k over the earlier price. The pro variant now costs Rs 1,92,500, an increase of Rs 2.5k. Although the price hike looks manageable, it may still prompt specific customers to think about relatively affordable options such as Meteor or Classic.
      Apart from higher pricing, Honda CB350 also faces the challenge of limited availability. The motorcycle is currently sold only through Honda BigWing dealerships, which are much fewer in numbers as compared to standard Honda dealerships. This makes CB350 inaccessible in large parts of the country. However, things may improve in the future, as Honda is working proactively to increase the number of BigWing dealerships. More

      The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 duo quickly earned a reputation for being excellent value for money, not just in India but also in several international markets. They are positioned at the affordable end of the medium displacement spectrum and have been playing a crucial role in boosting RE’s brand image in the international scene.
      No more Pirelli tyres
      Both 650 cc motorcycles came equipped with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres as factory fitment, forming an important part of their overall appeal. However, we have learnt that Royal Enfield has quietly switched to CEAT tyres of same dimensions since November 2020. This change has been confirmed by a few dealers, as well as RE 650 Twins’ owners across India. Hat tip to Vignesh for sharing this update.
      It is to be noted that Pirelli doesn’t have a production facility in India and hence the tyres need to be imported. Given the extraordinary disruption in international logistics effected by the ongoing pandemic, Royal Enfield’s decision to switch to CEAT tyres could be driven by supply chain constraints.
      It is also possible that the switch was made in an attempt to compensate for rising input costs. The price difference between the Pirelli and CEAT tyres is estimated to be considerable.

      That said, the tyre swap need not necessarily mean a bad thing. Obviously, CEAT brand does not enjoy the same admiration from enthusiasts as its compatriot Pirelli, but its been a few months since the swap and we would have picked up on it earlier if the customers had any grievances with the overall performance.
      New Royal Enfield 650 cruiser coming
      As you know, Royal Enfield is working on adding a third member to its flagship 650 family. The cruiser has been spotted testing several times recently, indicating that the development work is going on full swing. The prototypes are equipped with inverted front telescopic forks, a first for a Royal Enfield in the modern era.
      Other notable features are alloy wheels, digi-analog instrument console which is mostly likely to feature Tripper Navigation, a simple fuel tank with old-school filler cap and circular headlamp, taillight and turn indicators.
      The motorcycle will carry forward the much appreciated 648 cc twin-cylinder, air-cooled engine which offers 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque. The 6-speed transmission is expected to receive subtle tweaks to suit the cruiser’s relaxed riding character.
      While several components will be shared with the Interceptor and Continental GT 650, it remains to be seen if the upcoming cruiser will be equipped with Pirelli tyres or go for CEAT units from the beginning. RE is also planning on giving the 650 Twins a facelift soon, along with an alloy wheel option.
      Royal Enfield is also close to introducing the eagerly anticipated next generation Classic 350 which will be based on the new platform that debuted on the Meteor 350. Expect improved refinement, additional features and better performance compared to the outgoing model. More
