    Royal Enfield Classic 350 Recalled Over Braking Issue – 26k Units Affected

    A few days after the roll-out of 100,000th unit of the new gen 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle, the company has now announced a recall. The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 Recall has affected 26,300 motorcycles which were made between Sep and Dec this year.

    As per Royal Enfield, their technical team has discovered a potential issue in one of the parts – the brake reaction bracket attached to the motorcycle swing arm – used specifically on the 2021 single-channel ABS and rear drum brake Classic 350 motorcycles.
    They further add – Under specific riding conditions, it was discovered that exceptionally higher braking load applied on the rear brake pedal could lead to potential damage of the reaction bracket, which could further lead to unusual braking noise, and potential deterioration of braking efficiency in extreme conditions.
    The issue has only been found in Classic 350 motorcycles with rear drum brake and single channel ABS. All other motorcycle variants are not affected by this issue and are not part of the latest Royal Enfield recall.

    Affected Owners
    Over the next few days, Royal Enfield and their dealerships will start contact owners of the motorcycles which are part of this recall. These owners will have to bring in their motorcycle to the dealership, where Royal Enfield will “reinforce the brake reaction bracket of the swing arm for all units.”
    Proactively, owners of Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycles can also check if their vehicle is part of this recall by checking with local dealers / workshops or by calling RE customer care. You can also check the same by visiting Royal Enfield website.
    Earlier Royal Enfield Recall
    This is not the first time Royal Enfield is recalling vehicles in 2021. Earlier in May this year, Royal Enfield had announced a recall which had affected over 2.3 lakh motorcycles. In that recall, it was the Bullet, Classic (old-gen) and Meteor that were affected. That recall was due to manufacturing defect in ignition coil.

    Royal Enfield 650 Conti GT Gets Belstaff Makeover – Black And White

    While Royal Enfield builds the rides, Belstaff equips the rider with a range of riding gear and accessories. Founded in 1924, UK-based Belstaff supplies motorcycling gear such as jackets, trousers, boots, gloves and moto accessories.
    To celebrate Royal Enfield’s 120th anniversary and their mutual interests, both companies have tied up for a special partnership. The collaboration extends across various fronts including development of a Belstaff branded Continental GT. This has now been unveiled in UK.
    Belstaff branded Continental GT details
    This project focuses on cosmetic enhancements. Belstaff-branded Continental GT gets a dual-tone theme of black and white. The white shade can be seen on the fuel tank, seat mount, and side panels. Belstaff logo in white and matching design in black are there on the front section of fuel tank.
    To establish a strong connect with the ride and rider’s clothing, the bike gets special fabric seat cover in quilted pattern. It has Royal Enfield 120th anniversary branding and a small label with British flag. This fabric has also been used for fuel tank knee pads. Top section of fuel tank gets the fabric highlight as well with Royal Enfield 120th anniversary and Belstaff branding.
    Royal Enfield 650 Conti GT Belstaff Edition
    Shades of white used on the bike create an exciting contrast with the blacked-out bits. A number of components have been blacked-out such as engine, gear and brake levers, and rear suspension. For a more refined look, chrome bits have been removed from various parts such as headlamp and tail lamp. Most other components such as handlebar, fork gaiters, front fender, exhaust and wheels appear to be largely untouched.
    Changes introduced with Belstaff branded Continental GT look absolutely stunning. They are also practical and can be introduced in the form of a special edition. A limited edition, at least, can surely work for enthusiasts. This new theme looks refreshing, as compared to existing colour options of Rocker Red, Mr Clean, Dux Deluxe, British Racing Green and Ventura Storm.
    However, Royal Enfield says that Belstaff branded Continental GT is “just a one off special”. But enthusiasts could always get it done via a customization shop. Original Belstaff fabric may not be accessible, but finding matching ones shouldn’t be a big problem.
    Royal Enfield 650 Conti GT Belstaff Edition
    Belstaff branded Continental GT – No Hardware changes
    Cycle parts are the same for Belstaff branded bike. Royal Enfield Continental GT is powered by a 648cc, parallel twin motor that generates 47 bhp of max power at 7,150 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox.
    The bike utilizes a tubular steel frame with bolted trussing, integrated with 41mm front forks and twin coil-over shocks at rear. It has 18-inch spoke wheels at both ends.     In the 650cc segment, Royal Enfield offers the Interceptor and the Continental GT. Both these motorcycles are the best selling motorcycles in the segment in the country. They are also the only 650cc motorcycles which are made in India and exported around the world.
    These flagship motorcycles have been on sale for a few years now. While it still carries a very minimalistic approach and is far from the sophisticated technologies offered in modern premium machines, it also gets some useful features not seen before from the Chennai-based manufacturer. Earlier this year, they did get a minor update. But it still missed out on features like tripper navigation, which was first introduced on the Meteor 350 last year, and on the Classic 350 in Sep 2021.
    2022 Royal Enfield 650 Update
    It is likely that Royal Enfield will dish out more updates to the 650 Twins in 2022. Apart from adding Tripper Navigation system, RE could also update the exhaust system. Instead of the twin exhaust setup (one on each side), RE could offer a single side exhaust system, as seen in the latest test mule that was spied near company plant in Chennai.
    The motorcycle remains same – twin cylinder 650cc. It is only the exhaust system, which will be routed via a single end-can, instead of the double end-can in current 650 RE. It is not clear as to why Royal Enfield is testing a new exhaust system with single end-can. Many customers who are buying the RE 650, want the dual end-can exhaust.
    New Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 With Single Side Exhaust
    There could be some benefits though, of the single side exhaust. Reducing the exhaust end can to just 1, will help reduce the weight by a few kgs. The upswept end-can of test mule will reduce the width of the motorcycle, allowing ease of riding in traffic or in tight spaces. It will also be easier to caliberate as well as source – especially in these times of global parts shortage.
    Tripper Navigation
    Other update expected on board the 2022 650 Twins, is the Tripper Navigation system. This offers turn-by-turn navigation as standard across the range. Meteor 350 was the first bike to be laced with such a feature. It is now also on offer with Classic 350 new gen.
    The Tripper comes in two parts- the pod beside the instrument cluster and the mobile app. While the pod acts as a face, the app acts a brain which essentially means that the rider enters coordinates of the location in the app and the display pod shows turn-by-turn instructions of the route.
    New Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 With Single Side Exhaust
    The app displays information from Google Location and Maps by making use of the smartphone’s processing power as well as GPS for navigation. Using this app also means that navigation won’t be compromised even outside the network coverage area. The display pod not only provides navigation commands with arrows and distances but also captures the rider’s attention by flashing the arrows when a turn approaches close.
    With the arrows gradually filling in when turn approaches, it gets caught in the rider’s peripheral vision which tells the rider to take appropriate action without getting distracted from the road. Royal Enfield will eventually offer this on all their current as well as upcoming new motorcycles.

    For the past few years, Royal Enfield was testing their new gen 350cc motorcycles – which were set to replace the then available Thunderbird and the Classic range. After a lot of delay, largely due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns, Royal Enfield launched their first motorcycle based on the new gen 350cc platform.
    All new Royal Enfield Meteor 350 was launched in the first week of Nov 2020. This is the motorcycle which replaced the iconic Thunderbird nameplate. Gone were the vibrations, all thanks to a new platform and engine.
    New Royal Enfield Classic 350cc – 1 lakh production
    Based on this new platform, Royal Enfield launched the new gen Classic 350 in Sep 2021. Now, production of the new gen Classic 350cc motorcycle has crossed the 1 lakh milestone. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Thillai Megs for sharing the update.
    New RE Classic 350 is not only sold in India, but in many countries around the world – Europe, South Asia, South America, Australia, etc. Royal Enfield would have achieved this milestone long ago, if not for the global shortage of parts. There is a huge demand for these new RE Classic 350, resulting in a waiting period that is running into months.
    New gen Classic 350 motorcycle No 100,000th
    The Royal Enfield J1A platform was built from the ground up to deliver a world class motorcycle riding experience. Thanks to this platform, the modern day Classic 350cc motorcycles are more reliable. Be it the highway touring or city commuting or taking on corners, the new 350cc Classic delivers much better performance than their older counterparts.
    2021 RE Classic motorcycles are powered by a new 350cc single cylinder engine that makes 20.2 hp power and 27 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed gearbox. This new engine comes with an overhead camshaft replacing the existing UCE 350.
    Royal Enfield New Motorcycles 2022
    With an aim to maintain their lead in the segment, Royal Enfield has announced plans to launch one new motorcycle every 4 months – 28 new motorcycles in 7 years. We have already seen the launch of Meteor, Classic, updated Himalayan, revised 650 Twins.
    Royal Enfield will likely update the Bullet / Electra range to the new gen platform next. They will also launch new motorcycles, like the Hunter 350 roadster or the Interceptor 350. These motorcycles are currently on test and are expected to be launched sometime next year.

    2022 Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser – Super Meteor 650 / Shotgun 650Royal Enfield is getting ready to launch two new motorcycles in the 650cc segment – Super Meteor cruiser and Shotgun
    As part of its ongoing product offensive, Royal Enfield is readying a number of new motorcycles in 350cc-650cc category. One of these is a true-blue 650cc cruiser that is expected to be launched sometime next year. It is likely to be christened as Super Meteor 650. The other is a Classic styled 650cc motorcycle, which was showcased as a concept called SG650 at 2021 EICMA recently. Upon launch it could be called Shotgun 650.
    In addition to these two 650cc motorcycles, Royal Enfield also has a new Himalayan Scram 411 variant as well as a Hunter 350 in the making. The Scram 411 was recently spied in Goa, while the Hunter 350 was leaked via official RE video about Project 90 South.
    2022 Royal Enfield 650cc Motorcycles Leak
    Speaking about the 650cc motorcycles, the two new machines are expected to be priced at around Rs 3.5 lakh. In comparison, Royal Enfield 650 twins are available in the price range of Rs 2.70 lakh to Rs 3.20 lakh.
    The two 650cc machines have also leaked in similar fashion like the Hunter. Both Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 can be seen in the latest video of Royal Enfield 90 South project. In the video below at about 34 seconds mark, you can see the two upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc motorcycles.

    Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 styling
    Retro theme is clearly evident on test mules that have been frequently spotted in recent months. Some key features include round headlamp, rear-view mirrors, turn signals and tail light. It is likely that the bike will have an all-LED setup. Other key features include tall windscreen, dual exhaust pipes and broad rear fenders.
    Another distinguishable thing is the classy teardrop-shaped fuel tank. Instrument console profile could be similar to Meteor that has twin circular dials. There’s a larger unit on the left and a smaller display (Tripper navigation) on the right. Cruiser 650 can get things like USB charger and a new range of connectivity features.
    Users can expect optimal comfort when taking Cruiser 650 on long-distance journeys. The bike has wide pulled-back handlebar, low seat height, forward set footpegs and decent sized saddle. For pillion riders, there’s a backrest with integrated grab rails. Brackets for mounting panniers can be seen at the rear.

    Both new Royal Enfield’s will be utilizing the 648cc motor that’s currently in use with Interceptor and Continental GT. The parallel-twin, oil cooled unit churns out 47 hp of max power and 52 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
    Talking about hardware, 2022 RE 650 will be equipped with USD forks at front. It will be the first Royal Enfield bike to get this premium feature. USD forks are necessary as the bike will be easily touching 100+ kmph on highways. USD forks will ensure enhanced stability and control while negotiating sharp curves and braking at high speed. At the rear, the bike will have dual suspension setup.
    Based on the variant, Super Meteor 650 could be available with either spoke wheels or alloy wheels. The former will be preferred by retro enthusiasts. The bike could get 18-inch wheels, shod with tubeless tyres. Rear tyre will be a wider unit, as compared to the front. Braking power comes from disc brakes at both ends.     Following on its aggressive product strategy, Royal Enfield has been continuously testing multiple products in recent times. These include new bikes in both 350cc and 650cc segment. A new motorcycle based on Himalayan has also been spotted. This appears to be a road-biased version of the popular off-roader.
    Ahead of its launch, which is expected sometime next month, the new 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan Scram 411 motorcycle has been spied in Goa in production ready guise.     New Himalayan variant – Royal Enfield Scram 411
    While a Himalayan on the streets commands attention, this new variant has a relatively inconspicuous profile. This could also be described as a no-frills version of the Himalayan. The basic idea appears focused on stripping Himalayan of most of its specialized off-road equipment and features.
    At the front, new Himalayan variant gets a smaller wheel. It is likely to be a 19-inch unit, as compared to 21-inch of the current model. Other parts missing include fork gaiters, raised front fender and visor. It is possible that some of this equipment, especially visor, may be offered as an accessory. In other changes, the headlamp mask appears to have been redesigned.
    2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan Scram 411
    It is likely that the instrument panel will be an updated unit with option for Tripper navigation system. 2021 Himalayan had received the Tripper system earlier this year in February. Tripper system was first introduced with Meteor 350 and is now also available with new-gen Classic 350. Most other new / next-gen Royal Enfield motorcycles are expected to get Tripper navigation.
    At the sides, this new Himalayan variant missed out on front racks. It is a key component on-board Himalayan, both in terms of visual appeal as well as functional use. Instead of the rack, the bike gets small tank shrouds. These have a blacked-out look on the test mule. In production-spec version, the tank shrouds could sport some graphics. Other components on the side such as upswept exhaust, body panels, and split seats are the same as that of Himalayan.
    At the rear, the rack for luggage and panniers has been removed. Instead, the bike gets a standard pillion grab rail. While design and positioning of tail lamp is same, turn indicators have been moved further down. On Himalayan, the turn indicators are placed below the rear rack.
    To ensure a distinct identity, some new colour options can be introduced for road-biased Himalayan variant. Himalayan is currently offered in colour options of Mirage Silver, Granite Black, Pine Green, Rock Red, Lake Blue and Gravel Grey.
    Performance updates
    As per DownShift Goa, the production spec 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan Scram 411 was powered by a liquid cooled motor. Current Himalayan is powered by a 411cc, SOHC, air cooled engine as the current model. It is capable of generating 24.3 bhp of max power at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4000-4500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh transmission.
    Himalayan is equipped with 41mm telescopic front forks and monoshock rear suspension with linkage. Braking system comprises 300 mm disc at front and 240 mm disc at rear. It is integrated with dual-channel ABS. More

    Royal Enfield has many interesting projects up its sleeves, some of which will launch sometime next year. Two of those are Hunter 350 and Super Meteor 650. Test mules of both upcoming motorcycles have been frequently spotted on country roads in recent months.
    Speaking about the Hunter 350, it has now been leaked via an official video posted by Royal Enfield on their youtube. The video talks about the Himalayan, which is getting ready prepared for a journey to South Pole. RE has been testing the Himalayan extensively in Iceland for 2 years, and now the bike is ready for the 90 South expedition.
    In the video, where RE experts are talking about the modifications done, challenges faced by them in developing this special Himalayan, they are showing their workshop too. It is in this workshop, that you get a glance of the upcoming Hunter 350.
    Hunter is not the official name of this motorcycle. It is one of the many names that have been trademarked by Royal Enfield for their future motorcycles. It is believed that this one will be called. The rear half of the motorcycle is visible, also giving us an idea how the saree guard will be.     Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Leaks In New RE Himalayan Video
    Hunter 350- Design
    Royal Enfield Hunter will be a modern classic roadster based on the new J-series platform with a twin downtube frame underpinning Meteor 350 and the new-gen Classic 350. Spyshots suggest that RE Hunter will offer a commuter-like riding posture with a wide straight line handlebar and centre-set footpegs which result in a comfortable riding posture.
    The roadster will likely be powered by a 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine that pushes out 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension duties could be handled by 35 mm telescopic forks at front and twin gas-charged shocks at rear.
    Braking duties will be carried out by single disc brakes on both wheels assisted by a dual-channel ABS. Take a look at the official RE video of Himalayan, which gave us our first official glimpse of the Hunter 350. The Hunter appears in the frame at about 1 minute 27 seconds mark.

    Another video has surfaced on Youtube which shows both Hunter and Super Meteor being spotted testing their limits at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. Incidentally, it is the same venue where the first edition of the Continental GT Cup is being held. The first three rounds of this race are part of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship.
    Super Meteor- Design
    Many such prototypes of upcoming models were seen gliding through the race track. Super Meteor would be offered as the brand’s new flagship motorcycle, positioned above the current 650cc Twins- Interceptor and Continental GT. Launch of both Hunder and Super Meteor is expected in 2022. More

    Royal Enfield Meteor Modified Into A Bobber With Lots Of Chrome

    Launched last year in November, Meteor 350 has emerged as a popular choice in domestic as well as international markets. In domestic market, Meteor 350 is currently Royal Enfield’s second bestselling product, next only to Classic 350. The bike is preferred for its smooth design language, comfy cruising ergonomics and high-torque engine.
    With its simple design, Meteor 350 has also emerged as one of the preferred options for customization projects. We have been witness to several such experimentations in the past. In this latest customization project, Meteor 350 has been transformed into a Bobber-styled motorcycle. The makeover has been done by K-Speed, a Japan-based motorcycle customization shop.
    Royal Enfield Meteor chrome loaded Bobber – key changes
    Primary idea for this makeover appears to focus on enhancing the retro profile, all while introducing quirky styling bits that ensure an eccentric character for the bike. Towards this end, a number of changes have been introduced. Starting with the front, stock headlamp has been replaced with a much smaller round unit that fits snugly between the front forks. It comes with integrated turn signals.
    While front suspension forks are the same, they have been equipped with fork gaiters for a more rugged look and feel. Front fender has been completely ripped away. Instrument pods have shifted to the left side of the bike. Top front section of the bike comes in chrome finish, which creates an interesting contrast against the largely blacked-out parts.
    Royal Enfield Meteor Modified – Chrome Bobber
    Chrome finish has been added to the top section of forks, the handlebar and fuel tank. Chrome finish on fuel tank is already offered with Royal Enfield bikes like Continental GT, Interceptor and Classic 350. Chrome finish can also be seen on custom made exhaust pipe that replaces the stock unit.
    Stock handlebar has been replaced with an aftermarket raised touring handlebar. This is a key change to achieve a bobber style look. In place of the stock two-piece seat, the bike gets a single seat for the rider. Rear tail section has been almost entirely sawed off.
    This has resulted in rear turn signals (aftermarket units) being mounted close to rear shock absorbers. While alloy wheels are same, stock tyres have been replaced with chubby balloon tyres at both ends. They should ensure better grip and more comfort for users.
    Royal Enfield Meteor Modified – Chrome Bobber
    No engine tweaks
    This customization project is unlikely to have performance upgrades done on the engine. The stock 349cc single cylinder, air-oil cooled motor generates 20.2 bhp of max power at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a constant mesh 5-speed gearbox.
    The twin-downtube spine frame has been left untouched as well. Braking system comprising 300mm front and 270 mm rear disc brakes has been retained. Meteor 350 is offered with dual-channel ABS as standard.
    In an earlier project also, Meteor 350 was modified into a bobber by Amsterdam-based Ironwood Custom Motorcycles. However, there’s significant difference between the two customizations even though the core objective is the same.
