This 648cc, twin cylinder, air/oil cooled engine offers 47 hp power at 7,150 rpm and 52 Nm torque at 5,250 rpm mated to a 6 speed constant mesh transmission.However, these power and torque figures could be different on the new 650cc bobber. Suspension will include USD forks in the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking will be via disc brakes at the front and rear with dual channel ABS offered as standard. With launch planned for later this year, estimates put the RE Shotgun 650 in a price range of Rs 4-4.5 lakh.RE Upcoming LaunchesRoyal Enfield has plans to introduce a wide range of motorcycles in India over the next 7 years and here we list a few. First off in 2022 will be the new RE Scram 411 adventure bike which is a scrambler version of the Himalayan. It will share its features with the latter and will also have the same chassis and engine. Their simple architecture allows bike modifiers a free hand to experiment with various ideas and concepts. In a recent project, two Interceptor 650 motorcycles have been transformed into powerful-looking scramblers. The project has been executed by Delhi-based Neev Motors.650 scrambler modification detailsMuch of the customization is common across both modified bikes. For a beefier look and feel and for improved traction, the bikes have been fitted with balloon tyres. A number of components have been blacked out such as headlamp, turn signals, engine assembly, wheels and exhaust. A custom-made leather seat has been used, which comes in a quilted pattern.Front and rear fenders have been replaced with customized units. Tail section has been shortened and the grab rail has been removed. To ensure the bikes remain usable even in the rainy season, a custom built rear tyre hugger has been added. Another key change is the custom-made exhaust with sporty mesh-type insert.The custom exhaust is a lightweight unit, around 12 kg lighter than the stock version. This will improve performance with a higher power to weight ratio. The exhaust has extra loud output, significantly higher than the stock unit. It is not sure if it would be street legal. In recent times, traffic police have been taking strict action against illegal modifications including loud exhausts.Royal Enfield 650 ModifiedTalking about individual aspects, one of these bikes gets a grey and black colour scheme. It has been aptly named as ‘falcon’. Changes that are specific to falcon include a tank plate and 3D elements on side panels. For a cleaner front section, the instrument pods have been moved to the right side.Second bike utilizes a combination of red and black. It comes with classic leather bags on the sides and a leather pouch with straps mounted on the fuel tank. Colours on both bikes have been entirely repainted. That everything has come out in perfect finish highlights the superior skills of the modifier.650 scrambler modification costIn this modification project, around 50-60% of the bike’s parts and accessories have been modified. This is excluding core components like engine, chassis, suspension and braking, which have been retained in their original form. With a high level of customization and aftermarket components, cost of this project is minimum Rs 2 lakh for each bike. This is around 2/3rd of Interceptor 650 price, which starts at around Rs 3 lakh.A good thing about this project is that much of the customization can be reversed if the user feels the need for it. Sales fell from 68,887 units at volume loss of just over 10k units. Decline is reported at 14.59 percent. Of this, domestic sales accounted for 49,726 units, down from 64,372 units. Volume loss is reported at 14,646 units, down 22.75 percent.Total exports more than doubled at 9,112 units, up from 4,515 units. Volume gain stood at 4,597 units at 101.82 percent growth. Domestic sales for the month accounted for 84.51 percent of total sales.Royal Enfield Sales Jan 2022 – 350ccIts 350cc segment sales fell to 49,586 units, down from 64,248 units at volume loss of 14,662 units. Sales decline is reported at 22.82 percent. This segment accounted for 84.28 percent of all sales. In this segment, RE sells Classic, Bullet, Electra and MeteorThe above 350cc segment saw sales grow to 9,252 units, up from 4,639 units. Volume gain stood at 4,613 units at 99.44 percent sales growth. Royal Enfield is keen on creating a global brand identity in the mid-segment and this is supported by its export numbers which have continued to grow in recent months. Volume decline stood at 12,957 units.Over 350cc segment sales fell from 11,196 units, down 17.36 percent. Volume loss stood at 1,944 units. Domestic sales fell from 65,187 units, down 23.72 percent. Volume loss stood at 15,461 units. MoM exports saw growth of 6.55 percent, up from 8,552 units. Volume gain stood at 560 units.Though sales are diminished, it continues to march on despite impact on production. Production has been hampered owing to the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Add to this the ongoing global shortage of semiconductor chips. While the domestic market sees sales struggles, Royal Enfield has put on an exceptional show where exports are concerned. This packs in quite the punch in terms of global growth in international markets with exports.Royal Enfield Sales Jan 2022 YTDYTD FY22 salesYTD 350cc segment sales are reported at 4,01,085 units, down 8 percent from 4,35,321 units. The above 350cc segment has seen great growth at 80 percent. YTD sales are up at 74,346 units, up from 41,312 units. Total sales for FY22 thus far stands at 4,75,431 units. Sales for the same 10 months in the previous fiscal stood at 4,76,633 units. Domestic sales deficit has been largely negated by growth in exports. YTD exports stand at 64,807 units, up from 28,192 units at 130 percent sales growth.Royal Enfield has launched its all new Classic 350 in Philippines, Korea, Australia and New Zealand in January 2022. It was launched in India and Thailand in 2021. The new timeless classic is built on the modern J-series engine, and an all-new chassis. The bike maker is also very popular in the aftermarket industry both in India and abroad. We often come across Royal Enfield motorcycles undergoing some kind of modification on the internet.Some of these custom-built bikes are curated tastefully and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. One such example comes from the land of Royal Enfield’s origins. In the latest example, a stock Interceptor 650 has been modified into a Himalayan using an aftermarket body kit for the latter.Royal Enfield 650cc Interceptor Modified – ‘Interlayan’A video of the same has been uploaded by Cooperb Motorcycles on their YouTube channel. The motorcycle shop based out of Wellingborough in the United Kingdom has built several custom motorcycle projects in the past. Its latest creation is an Interceptor converted into a Himalayan which Cooperb is calling Interlayan 650 which is an interesting amalgam of ‘Inter’ceptor and Him‘alayan’.The modifier reveals that it isn’t a finished project and that the Royal Enfield 650cc Himalayan / Interlayan 650 is yet to undergo a few more modifications in order to become a proper adventure tourer. Still, the motorcycle has already undergone several mod jobs which have altered the bike’s appearance. For starters, the stock wheels have been replaced with wire-spoked wheels with a golden paint job around rims.[embedded content][embedded content]The wheels are now shod with dual-purpose tyres which would aid the bike during soft roading. Front suspension has been modified and now features fork gaiters. A signature windscreen, plastic front fender and beak have been added to the bike’s face. Even the stock headlight of Interceptor has been replaced with the ones used in the adventure tourer.The handlebar of the Interlayan has been changed but the twin-pod instrument cluster has been retained. Another major update is the incorporation of a new chiselled fuel tank similar to one seen in Himalayan. The aftermarket body kit also consists of metal frames that protect the body and even acts as mounting points for pannier boxes and jerry cans.The most significant alteration is a new single-side exhaust canister instead of dual canisters, one on each side in the stock Interceptor. Other functional updates made include hand-guards, an engine underbelly crash guard and aftermarket rearview mirrors finished in black bezels. The stock single-piece, flat seat has been retained as of now but will be replaced soon.Interceptor 650: SpecsPowering Interceptor 650 is a 648cc parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled motor that kicks out 47 bhp and a peak torque of 52 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.       For the standard set of firefighting trucks, it’s a challenge to reach areas such as slums and other localities with narrow streets. This issue has been faced by fire brigade personnel in several crowded cities in the country. As a solution, two-wheeler-based fire fighting vehicles have been developed. These are in service in several cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kottayam.
      A number of these fire-fighting vehicles are based on Royal Enfield motorcycles. The preference is apparently due to the rugged nature of Royal Enfield motorcycles.
      In many cases, the choice has been Bullet 500cc bike. The latest addition will be Himalayan-based fire fighting vehicles that will be deployed with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

      Himalayan-based firefighting ambulance is equipped with 20-litre water tanks on both sides at the rear. The motorcycle is unlikely to have any issues with the additional weight, as it has been designed to carry heavy luggage. In its stock form, Himalayan comes with dedicated racks at both front and rear.

      At rear, the retrofitted Himalayan also gets a 100-foot pipe and spray nozzle. Other equipment includes a pump for spraying water at high pressure. While the 20-litre tanks will store water by default, it is possible that other fire extinguishing material can be added.
      It’s necessary because water alone cannot extinguish all types of fires. For example, throwing water on petrol fires can actually cause them to flare up further. Himalayan firefighting bike will have two personnel on board. The bike will serve multiple purposes in addition to dousing fires. For example, it can be used for rescue and evacuation operations from areas where four-wheeled vehicles cannot reach easily.
      It can be used as a reconnaissance bike that can reach the troubled spot quickly and relay information to the control room. The bikes will also work as route clearance vehicles, so that fire brigade team can cruise through traffic and reach the destination in time.

      Initially, three Himalayan fire bikes are being purchased by PCMC at a cost of Rs 13.5 lakh each. It includes the price of the bike and the firefighting equipment that it carries. Stock Himalayan is available at a starting price of Rs 2.16 lakh. The retrofitting is done by a third-party agency that specializes in building firefighting equipment.
      Engine will be same as stock version, a 411cc air cooled, SOHC unit. It generates 24.3 bhp of max power at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox.
      To ensure it is easily noticeable, Himalayan fire bikes are expected to get a dual-tone colour scheme of red and yellow. This is the standard colour code for firefighting vehicles in most parts of the world. More

      Royal Enfield has been churning good sales volumes in the Indian market for a long time now. The company is one of the most sought after brands in the two-wheeler space of the country. The Chennai-based manufacturer concentrates on the mid-displacement segment of motorcycles between 300cc and 700cc.
      In December 2021, Royal Enfield was able to sell 65,194 bikes across India which was marginally less than the same month in the previous year when the company sold 65,492 units. This resulted in a YoY decline of 0.46 percent. In November 2021, the sales figure stood at 44,830 units which translated to an MoM growth of 45.42 percent.

      The sales chart was led by Classic 350 with a registered monthly volume of 34,723 units last month. With 39,321 units sold in December 2020 and 19,601 units sold in November 2021, YoY degrowth stood at 11.69 percent and MoM growth stood at 77.15 percent. Royal Enfield dispatched 10,977 units of Meteor 350 which recorded YoY and MoM growths of 28 percent and 62 percent respectively.
      The third spot was taken by Bullet 350 which registered a monthly volume of 8,061 units in December. The oldest motorcycle in continuous production witnessed a YoY decline of 23 percent and an MoM drop of 7.69 percent. Royal Enfield sold 4,611 units of Himalayan which resulted in a massive YoY growth of 390 percent. The MoM growth stood at 39.31 percent.

      The fifth spot was taken by Electra 350, which recorded a monthly volume of 4,521 units. The roadster witnessed a YoY decline of 7.32 percent and an MoM growth of 6.20 percent. Royal Enfield sold 2,301 units of its 650cc Twins – Interceptor and Continental GT. Cumulatively, the 650cc Twins registered YoY and MoM growths of 76.59 and 6.82 percent.

      When it came to exports, Royal Enfield was able to dispatch 8,552 motorcycles in December 2021. During the same month in 2020, the company could only export 3,503 units which have resulted in YoY growth of 144 percent. A similar MoM growth of 143 percent was recorded during the same period.
      Himalayan was the most exported model from Royal Enfield last month with 2,487 units of the adventure tourer shipped overseas. It registered a YoY growth of 106 percent and an MoM decline of 138.68 percent. Meteor 350 was the second most exported model by RE as 2,276 units of the cruiser were dispatched to foreign markets last month. YoY and MoM growths stood at 2,321 percent and 87 percent respectively.

      The bike maker dispatched 1,983 units of Classic 350 abroad last month which resulted in YoY growth of 733 percent and an MoM growth of 264 percent. 1,797 units of the 650cc Twins were exported to foreign markets in December which led to YoY growth of 50.63 percent and an MoM growth of 173 percent.       The upcoming 650cc motorcycles from Royal Enfield have been generating quite a bit of buzz on the internet of late. These motorcycles have made numerous appearances on social media in recent months – via spy shots.
      Atleast 3 new 650cc motorcycles from Royal Enfield are expected this year. One is the Cruiser 650, second is Super Meteor 650 and third is Shotgun 650. Of the three, it is the latter which has now been spied. Images are credited to automotive enthusiast Deepthi, who spotted the test mule on the outer ring road in Chennai.
      Royal Enfield 650cc Bobber SG650
      Royal Enfield showcased the SG650 bobber concept at the 2021 EICMA show in Italy last year. It looks like the Bobber version of the Super Meteor 650. The test mule that has been spied, has its rear fully covered.
      Shotgun 650 possesses all the styling elements usually associated with a modern classic motorcycle from Royal Enfield. It features neo-retro styling elements such as a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, single seat, dual exhaust in chrome finish and broad rear fenders.

      The motorcycle offers a typical low-slung bobber stance which should offer comfortable riding ergonomics thanks to a low saddle, a wide handlebar pulled inwards. All this should enhance its credentials as a modern bobber.
      Mechanical Specs & Features
      Powering Shotgun will be a familiar 648cc parallel-twin motor that already propels Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. This power mill kicks out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.
      Differences arise in the hardware department where Shotgun 650 is seen suspended on upside-down forks at front instead of conventional telescopic forks on the other 650 Twins. Rear suspension unit features twin shock absorbers as usual. Braking will be handled by single disc brakes at both ends with ByBre calipers aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
      In terms of features, Shotgun 650 is expected to boast an all-LED illumination, a USB charger and a semi-digital instrument console. The instrument console should come with a Tripper Navigation Pod which displays turn-by-turn navigation when paired with the Royal Enfield App on the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth.

      Launch timeline is not officially revealed. But considering that the motorcycle showcased at EICMA was a near-production ready unit – one can expect the launch to take place in the second half of 2022.
