    Royal Enfield is expected to name its upcoming 650cc cruiser as Super Meteor – It will be positioned as the flagship product in the lineup
    Royal Enfield has a number of prospective launches up its sleeves in the coming few months. However, the next big launch is expected to be the 650cc cruiser which has been spotted on a number of occasions previously. Recently, it was reported that this upcoming cruiser will be named Super Meteor.
    One doesn’t have to guess too hard for the actual inspiration behind the name as the brand already retails a cruiser named Meteor. However, the former will be a proper cruiser rather than the 350cc machine which essentially is a retro-style roadster trying to be a cruiser.
    It has also come to light that Super Meteor 650 will make its first official appearance at the upcoming 2021 EICMA Show in Italy next month. Meanwhile, the motorcycle continues to be spotted testing on Indian roads. The undisguised prototype seen in these images is in line with the speculative digital renderings that have gone viral online. The latest spy images are credit to automotive enthusiast Vasanth H.
    Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Cruiser – Design & Features
    Like most Royal Enfield models, retro styling forms a key aspect of the upcoming 650cc cruiser. Some notable highlights spied include a circular headlamp with a chrome bezel, split-style seats, a tear-drop fuel tank, twin-sided exhaust canisters embellished in chrome, a round taillight and broad fenders. A rear-swept handlebar and forward-set footpegs suggest the bike will offer a relaxed riding ergonomics of a typical cruiser.

    In terms of features, Super Meteor 650 has been spied with a twin-pod instrument cluster. One of them is expected to be the Tripper Navigation which provides turn-by-turn navigation when paired with the Royal Enfield smartphone app via Bluetooth. We also expect the Chennai-based bikemaker to throw in a few electronic rider aids.
    Mechanical Specifications
    Powering Super Meteor 650 will be the same 648cc air and oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine that propels Interceptor and Continental GT. This motor churns out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and will be coupled with a 6-speed gearbox accompanied by a slipper clutch. Hardware configurations will differ slightly from the existing RE 650 twins. Suspension setup will consist of upside-down front forks and twin-sided rear springs.
    Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends which will be aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard. Like a typical cruiser, Super Meteor will ride on a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel wrapped around by thick profile tubeless tyres.
    As mentioned previously, Super Meteor 650 will be positioned as a premium cruiser above the current 650cc twins- Interceptor and Continental GT in the RE lineup. The brand Super Meteor was previously used by Royal Enfield in the United States in the 1950s. The upcoming 650cc cruiser is expected to be launched in India in the first quarter of next year. More

    Royal Enfield Himalayan 650cc Gets Green Light For Launch

    A few months ago, rumours of Royal Enfield developing a more powerful version of Himalayan broke out on the internet. The Chennai-based bikemaker has given a green light to the project and that the new Himalayan will be powered by a 650cc parallel-twin engine.
    Fresh details regarding this upcoming motorcycle have emerged which give us more insights. Himalayan 650 wasn’t initially part of Royal Enfield’s plan when it decided to build the 650cc parallel-twin motor. Development work on this motorcycle started around 18 months ago.
    Demerits of current Himalayan
    The primary concern for the company is that Himalayan in its current form weighs around 199 kilos which is on the heavier side. Therefore, plonking it with a larger power plant will only make it heavier. Hence, Royal Enfield is likely to retune the chassis of the adventure bike in the new 650cc iteration.
    Moreover, the excess weight of the current Himalayan is also one of its prime negative attributes in the otherwise popular motorcycle. The current 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor delivers a fairly modest output of 24.3 bhp and a peak torque of 32 Nm while the additional weight doesn’t help its case either. The motorcycle isn’t lively on roads and is unable to hold triple-digit speeds while cruising.

    Himalayan 650cc Launch
    The new Himalayan 650 will have many critical variations with respect to the current model. For instance, the new 650cc iteration of Himalayan would not be as capable on rough terrains as the current model. It will be available in two derivatives- one with alloy wheels and one with spoked rims. The former will be pitched as a sports tourer while the latter will be a road-biased adventure tourer.
    This means it will not be a proper adventure bike by any stretch of imagination and the adventure tourer variant will be more of a tour-orientated soft-roader. Royal Enfield is also expected to downsize the front wheel from 21-inches to a 19-inch unit for more road-friendly usage. Further, the bikemaker may not even call this upcoming motorcycle as ‘Himalayan’ and allot it a brand new moniker.
    Rider will be mounted on a higher saddle in the new Himalayan 650 and ground clearance will be impressive as well. The exhaust pipe will also be mounted higher. Around 80-85 percent design of the current model will be carried forward in the new motorcycle. Therefore, we can expect Royal Enfield to retain its overall rugged styling.
    Expected Features & Powertrain
    The company might equip the new Himalayan with features such as a new instrument console with a TFT display. It might also offer Bluetooth connectivity along with multiple riding modes and also a one-level traction control system. Braking setup of the motorcycle will also be enhanced.
    Powering this upcoming derivative of Himalayan will be a familiar 648cc, parallel-twin engine sourced from Interceptor and Continental GT. This motor pushes out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. However, we still have to wait for at least three years since the new Himalayan 650 isn’t coming before the last quarter of 2024.

    To maintain its dominance, Royal Enfield has plans to launch multiple products every year. The idea is to keep customers engaged and proactively fend off attack by new products being launched by rival OEMs. The first in this series of new launches was Meteor 350, which has already emerged as a popular choice in 350cc segment.
    Then came the updated versions of Himalayan and 650 twins. More recently, the new gen Classic 350 was launched. Other expected products that have been spied several times on road tests include a new bike named Hunter 350 and the company’s flagship 650cc cruiser. Royal Enfield is also working on a 650cc roadster. It is now being reported that the cruiser 650 will debut next month as Super Meteor 650, at the EICMA 2021 in Milan, Italy.

    Retro styling is clearly evident on Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 cc cruiser. Some of the key features include round rear view mirrors, tear-drop shaped fuel tank, large seat, dual exhaust in chrome finish and broad rear fenders. The bike offers a comfortable riding stance with forward-set footpegs and ergonomically placed wide handlebar.
    It is expected that Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser will get a range of hi-tech features. One of these will be Tripper navigation that was first introduced with Meteor 350. A new range of connected features could also be offered with 650cc cruiser.
    Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Spied Testing

    Powering 650cc cruiser will be the same engine that is offered with Interceptor and Continental GT. The 648cc twin-cylinder, air/oil-cooled unit is capable of generating 47 hp of max power at 7150 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. It utilizes a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. Power and torque output may be tweaked for 650cc cruiser, if needed.
    Another notable thing about 650cc cruiser is that it will be the first Royal Enfield bike to utilize USD front forks. At the rear, the bike will have standard twin shock absorbers. It will have disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard.
    Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 – launch plans
    Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is expected to be launched early next year. Earlier this year, the company had registered a new name ‘Royal Enfield Shotgun’. There are speculations that this name could be used for another variant (roadster) of the 650cc cruiser.

    Royal Enfield has plans to launch 4 new or updated bikes every year for the next 7 years. In the past 12 months, they have already launched the new Meteor 350, updated Himalayan, updated 650 Twins and the new Classic 350. The next motorcycle in line for launch could be the Hunter 350cc scrambler.
    This new offering will allow the company to further fortify its position in the Indian bike market, and more particularly in the 350 cc segment where it already commands more than 90% percent market share. Likely to be christened as Hunter upon launch sometime next year, the bike is currently doing the test rounds.
    It is is based on the new modular J platform, which it will share with the Meteor 350 and the new Classic 350. Thanks to latest spy shots, new design elements have come to the fore. On that basis, automotive rendering artist Pratyush Rout has created digital renders in 6 different colours.

    New 2022 Royal Enfield Hunter 350cc looks young and sporty. It is aimed at new generation of motorcycle riders. It will be offered in both monotone and dual tone colour options. Spy shots of the model on test show off its athletic stance with blacked-out circular headlamp and body panels, a single seat setup, wide set handlebars and blacked out multi-spoke alloy wheels.

    It gets well positioned footpegs that offer the rider a forward leaning stance. Features also include rear view mirrors, upswept exhaust and a shortened tail segment with a circular tail lamp.
    Just like Meteor, it will also sport a semi digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a rectangular multi information display unit. It could however miss out on the Tripper Navigation system seen on the new Himalayan and Meteor 350. Suspension and braking will be via telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. Braking will be via disc brakes in front and rear.
    Engine Specs
    The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is likely to be powered by 349 cc, air cooled, single cylinder engine that also powers the Meteor and Classic. This engine produces 20.2 hp power and 27 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed transmission. The exhaust gets tuned for delivering a more crisper / raspier sound as compared to the other 350cc machines from RE.
    There are no indications on pricing as on date but it is likely that the RE Hunter 350 could come in within a price range that will undercut the Honda CB350 on arrival. Once launched, the new Hunter 350 will appeal to a younger segment of buyers in the country and compete with the Honda CB350RS and soon to be launched Yezdi Roadking. More

    Needless to say but Royal Enfield has a lot on its plate currently. The company is striving very hard to stay focussed on its earlier commitment of four launches every year despite the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Hence, every now and then, one comes across numerous spy shots of various test mules of different models conducting trial testings.
    One of the upcoming motorcycles from Royal Enfield spotted on numerous occasions in recent past is the roadster based on Meteor 350. This motorcycle has been tentatively titled Hunter 350. Another set of spy shots of the classic roadster have surfaced, courtesy auto enthusiast Arjunan Babu.
    Royal Enfield Hunter 350cc – Design
    As witnessed earlier, Hunter carries a classic retro-style design with signature styling highlights such as a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a single-piece seat and a short rear section. The bike rides on 17-inch blacked-out alloy wheels. The tail section gets split grab rails and a short circular fender along with a round turn taillight with turn indicators.
    Further, an all-black theme gives the bike a sporty appeal. Parts like its handlebar, alloy wheels, engine casing, exhaust pipe and suspension setup have all been dipped in black paint with a matte finish.

    Other notable highlights include a shortened upswept exhaust muffler, redesigned side panels, circular rearview mirrors, fork gaiters and wide tyres. The footpegs are placed towards the centre which should provide a comfortable riding posture thanks to the wide and tall handlebar.
    Hunter should get an instrument console which is similar to Meteor 350 consisting of two circular pods- an analogue speedometer and a Tripper Navigation pod. Powered by Google Maps and Royal Enfield App, Tripper provides turn-by-turn navigation on the console when paired to one’s smartphone via Bluetooth. The analogue pod contains a digital display which should read information from the odometer and fuel gauge.
    Mechanical Specs
    Hunter will be based on the J1D platform which currently underpins Meteor 350, however, unlike the cruiser, the roadster will be tad sportier in essence. Suspension duties will be handled by 35 mm telescopic forks at front and twin gas-charged shocks at rear. Braking duties will be carried out by single disc brakes on both wheels assisted by a dual-channel ABS.
    The upcoming roadster will be powered by a 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine that can dish out 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque. This unit will be coupled with a 5-speed gearbox and is more refined than the previous generation 350cc engine thanks to a counter-balance shaft. No official launch timeline has been confirmed by Royal Enfield yet. We expect it to be priced upwards of Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom). I will take on the soon to be launched Yezdi Roadking. More

    Royal Enfield Sales Sep 2021 – Classic 350, Meteor, Bullet, Himalayan

    Royal Enfield September 2021 total sales fell to 33,529 units. Down 44 percent from just over 60k units. Sales volume fell by 26,802 units. YTD sales is still in the green at just under 2.5 lakh units, up from 2,08,078 units for the same 6 months in 2020.
    The upto 350cc segment, which happens to be Royal Enfield’s core strength has taken a hard hit. In this segment, they sell Classic 350, Meteor, Bullet and Electra. Wholesales fell to around 25k units, down from 54,434 units at 53.12 percent decline. YTD segment sales grew 10 percent at 2,08,201 units, up from 1,89,608 units.
    The above 350cc segment stayed in the green, at just over 8k units, up from about 5.9k units at 35.81 percent growth. In this segment, RE sells Himalayan and 650 Twins – Continental GT and Interceptor. Sales volume grew by just over 2.1k units in the segment. Exports in this segment grew by 52.41 percent at about 6.3k units, up from 4,131 units. Exports volume grew by 2,165 units.
    RE Domestic sales volume fell by about 29k units. Down at 27,233 units from 56.2k units. Sales decline is reported at 51.54 percent. MoM total sales decline is reported at 26.89 percent.

    Demand for semiconductors
    Demand for semiconductors remains necessary, but a shortage of supply may limit the amount of new chips that can be introduced into production. Continuing shortages of product due to high demand and tight supplies caused the semiconductor industry’s production volumes for September to remain flat with those of August.
    Across the industry, the lack of new products can be traced back to a tight supply capacity. However, manufacturers have in select instances been able to keep to schedule and introduce new product lines.
    The bottom line is that if you don’t have any chips, you need to pay more to get them from other sources. This is a necessity considering its impact of production. As such, procurement of parts continues to be a key focus area.

    Things to look up in Q3 FY22
    Though things are expected to look up in Q3 FY22, despite this, supply of components is still expected to remain tight for many generations of existing products. The primary cause of the lack in supply is is oft attributed to production taking longer than anticipated to meet pent up demand. These slower production rates as compared to demand is limiting how much product can be shipped out.
    The second factor that has led parts availability being tight is some components being used more often by high-volume customers who have smaller weights/smaller demand for some items relative to market trends.     Royal Enfield motorcycles are among the most custom-friendly bikes in the aftermarket industry. A robust frame makes it possible for designers to modify them in a whole new configuration. This is further aided by simple, no-nonsense retro designs of the base models.
    Delhi-based aftermarket workshop Neev Motorcycles has created many such customised Royal Enfield bikes which look unique in composition yet retain classic Royal Enfield characteristics underneath. Another such motorcycle has been designed and conceptualised by Neev which reminds us of good old choppers of Western markets.
    Royal Enfield Classic Bobber Zeus – Design Upgrades
    The donor model used in this case is a Classic 500 which has been converted into a bobber. The bike on the outset looks outrageous and something out of this world and hence has been aptly named after the Greek God ‘Zeus’. Getting into details, the motorcycle has been equipped with a unique fuel tank design that fortifies it with complex curves in order to add a glimpse of novelty to its style.
    As evident, the bike features minimal body panels which gives it a clean look. It wears a beautiful dual-tone custom paint job with glossy black and matte silver. The exhaust has been designed and crafted out of stainless steel which looks premium and ravishing.
    Royal Enfield Classic Modified Into A Bobber
    Other custom-built parts include a finely crafted handlebar, toolbox, and fenders that look aesthetically pleasing. All the components mentioned above have been built by hand.
    Both front and rear fenders have been chopped short while front forks have been covered by aluminium bars. At rear, folks at Neev have incorporated a longer swingarm which is attached to the presumably stock twin shock absorbers.
    Other hand-built accessories include a carburetor cover, wheel covers and a new leather seat. Components such as the headlight, taillight, turn indicators, rearview mirrors and a single pod instrument console are high-end aftermarket accessories.

    Mechanical Specs
    There are not many details regarding the bike’s engine but therefore it is assumed that the stock powertrain is in place. This 499cc single-cylinder air-cooled, fuel-injected motor kicked out 27 bhp at 5250 rpm and a peak torque 41.3 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension setup consists of telescopic front forks and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear.
    Braking duties are carried out by a 280 mm disc at front and a 240 mm disc or drum at rear. The motorcycle rolls on stock 18-inch wire-spoke wheels shod with chubbier tyres. With an increase in diameter and a new swingarm, wheelbase of the stock Classic 500 has been extended slightly. More

    Royal Enfield Sales, Exports Breakup Aug 2021 – Classic, 650 Twins, Bullet, Himalayan

    Royal Enfield domestic sales for August 2021 stood at 39,070 units, down 17.87 percent over 47,571 units sold in August 2020. It was the 350cc models of Classic, Meteor, Bullet and Electra that mainly contributed to these sales despite each of these posting de-growth.
    Top Selling Royal Enfield Motorcycles
    RE updated their Classic 350, and that has had not much effect on sales as it continues to be the best selling RE in Aug 2021. Classic 350 sales dipped 32.59 percent YoY to 23,453 units, down from 34,791 units sold in August 2020. MoM sale also fell 8.15 percent over 25,534 units sold in July 2021. Classic 350 currently holds a 60.03 percent share up from 53.27 percent held in July 2021.
    Of the RE Meteor 350, the company had sold 8,777 units in July 2021 relating to a MoM de-growth of 27.30 percent to 6,381 units in August 2021. Domestic sales of Bullet 350 also dipped 49.44 percent YoY and 48.56 percent MoM with 3,669 units sold in August 2021.
    In the above 350cc segment, Himalayan sales however saw a substantial YoY increase up 422.64 percent to 2,770 units in August 2021 over 530 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales increased marginally over 2,730 units sold in July 2021.
    Royal Enfield Sales Aug 2021
    Sales of Electra 350 and 650 Twins dipped 52.46 percent and 3.47 percent respectively on a YoY basis to 1,93 units and 834 units. MoM sales dipped for the Electra 350 by 33.44 percent but 650 Twins saw a 2.4 percent sales increase over 811 units sold in July 2021.
    RE Exports Aug 2021
    Royal Enfield exports surged both on YoY and MoM basis up 164.10 percent to 6,790 units in August 2021 over 2,571 units exported in August 2020 and up 43.01 percent over 4,748 units exported in July 2021.
    Royal Enfield Meteor 350 topped the export list with 2,387 units shipped in the past month. This was a 37.42 percent growth over 1,737 units exported in July 2021. The Meteor currently commands a 35.15 percent share which is marginally lower as compared to 36.58 percent held in July 2021.
    Royal Enfield Exports Aug 2021
    RE 650 Twins of which 2,134 units were exported in August 2021 saw a 51.45 percent growth over 1,409 units exported in August 2020. MoM exports also increased 33.54 percent over 1,598 units shipped in July 2021.
    Himalayan and Classic 350 exports also increased 69.91 percent and 303.93 percent respectively to 1,502 units and 719 units in August 2021 over that of August 2020. MoM exports also noted an increase particularly so for the Classic 350 which increased 1006.15 percent from 65 units shipped in July 2021 to 719 units in the past month.
    Exports of Classic 500 dipped 51.02 percent to 4 percent YoY while MoM exports increased by 242.86 percent over 14 units shipped in July 2021. Exports of Bullet 350 and 500 were nil in August 2021 even as there were only 5 units of the Bullet 350 sold in July 2021. More
