Even though they are all very similar, Royal Enfield has successfully carved out distinct differences that define their character. Hunter 350 is by far the sportiest of all the 350s. At 2023 EICMA Show, Hunter 350 got even sportier with new Special Colour Editions.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Special EditionsHunter 350 is one of the best selling 350cc motorcycles in India, after Classic 350. The motorcycle has quite an appeal, being the lightest and the most affordable Royal Enfield on sale. It has a scrambler-esque appeal and is quite sporty in its design. It primarily rivals TVS Ronin in India.Taking this formula and exponentially increase the appeal, we get vastly different visual machines. At 2023 EICMA Show, there were two Special Editions of Hunter 350 showcased and one of them had a cool fairing and a whole Cafe- Racer appearance that currently Royal Enfield is lacking in 350cc space.Main highlights of this machine are its fairing and attractive colour scheme. Starting with fairing, it is a semi fairing that extends slightly below its fuel tank. This build gets lower clip-on handlebars that will necessitate quite a lean. Front fairing extends over the instrument console, and provides decent wind protection. Seat and rear subframe are completely new and scream Cafe Racer.Hunter 350 Special Edition With FairingInstrument cluster is now centrally mounted, unlike before. For the top half of the motorcycle, there is an interesting White and Pink colourway and for lower half, there is a dark Grey and Neon Yellow. Wheels get aero covers and there is an aftermarket free-flowing full system exhaust along with slick tyres for maximum track performance.King Nerd 350The second Special Edition of Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is called King Nerd 350. This build doesn’t go on a componentry-replacing rampage. So, most of the components are identical to stock motorcycles. That said, this edition is more of an artistic and stylistic enhancement that displays individual personality. For starters, there is a Grey base coat a flashy Orange for contrast.Contrast, it does. Fuel tank has artistic expressions in the form of patterns, also seen on custom rear subframe and rear cowl. Seat gets Orange horizontal stripes and below seat, there is a leather add-on with Orange contrast that should hold a water bottle perfectly. Handy while on the go. With King Nerd 350, tyres have been upsized too.Royal Enfield King Nerd 350Wheels get aero covers along with a headlights cowl that reminds me of Royal Enfield’s own Scram 411.     Royal Enfield Domestic Sales up 6% in Oct 2023 – Exports fall 39%

    New Royal Enfield Meteor 350Royal Enfield sold 84,435 motorcycles in October 2023 while exports declined to 3,477 units during the same monthRoyal Enfield sales in October 2023 increased both on a YoY and MoM basis and across its bikes in the sub-350cc and above-350cc categories. Sales ended positively in domestic markets though exports dipped both YoY and MoM.Royal Enfield YoY Sales Growth in October 2023Royal Enfield total sales (domestic + exports) stood at 84,435 units in October 2023. This was a 2.68 percent YoY growth over 82,235 units sold in October 2022 relating to a volume growth of 2,200 units. There was a growth in domestic sales by 5.79 percent to 80,958 units, up from 76,528 units sold in October 2022 with a 95.88 percent share while exports fell by 39.07 percent to 3,477 units from 5,707 units shipped in October 2022.Royal Enfield Sales Oct 2023Greater demand was seen in the case of RE bikes in the sub 350cc segment, sales of which grew by 1.67 percent YoY to 76,075 units in October 2023 up from 74,828 units sold in October 2022. Bikes in the above 350cc segment also posted a 12.87 percent YoY growth to 8,360 units, up from 7,407 units sold in October 2022.On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, RE sales grew by 7.45 percent over 78,580 units sold in September 2023. Here again, there was growth across domestic sales to the tune of 9.02 percent from 74,261 units sold in September 2023, while exports fell 19.50 percent from 4,319 units shipped in September 2023. Sales of the under 350cc bikes improved by 8.15 percent MoM while it was a 1.52 percent growth in case of bikes in the above 350cc segment.Royal Enfield Year-to-Date Sales FY24 Vs FY23In terms of fiscal year-to-date sales for the current financial year (FY24 YTD), Royal Enfield showed strong growth compared to the same period in previous year (FY23). In the FY2024 period, RE sales grew to 5,41,421 units, up 13.46 percent over 4,77,204 units sold in the same period of FY23. This was a volume growth of 64,217 units.Sales of sub-350cc bikes which include the likes of Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350 and the new 2023 Bullet 350, stood at 4,82,271 units, up 16.66 percent over 4,13,410 units sold in FY23. Bikes in the more powerful segment that include the Himalayan 411, Scram 411, Super Meteor 650, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, witnessed a decline of 7.28 percent to 59,150 units in FY24 from 63,794 units sold in FY23.Domestic sales stood at 4,97,845 units in the FY24 period with a 19.32 percent growth over 4,17,237 units sold in FY23. The company’s performance in export markets ended in the red as numbers fell 27.33 percent to 43,576 units in FY24 from 59,967 units sold in FY23.The company has just revealed details of its new Himalayan 450 ahead of its official launch this month. It is said to get a 6-speed gearbox, liquid cooling, LED lighting, and a lot more. It is evident that Royal Enfield Scram 450 will be pitted below Himalayan 450. We say this because there is a lot of equipment on Himalayan 450 which Scram 450 lacks.For instance, Scram 450 lacks front USD forks, split seats, rear luggage rack, spoked wheels, front windshield and some more.     Royal Enfield Flying Flea – Plans To Resurrect The 125cc Legend?

    Royal Enfield Flying Flea 125ccWith Flying Flea registered both in India and in Europe, it makes one wonder if Royal Enfield is planning a big surpriseRoyal Enfield seems busy with its portfolio expansion plans in 450cc and 650cc segments. The company is also working to develop its electric portfolio. In between these, could Royal Enfield be working on something entirely new?Plans to bring back Flying Flea?Eicher Motors had registered the ‘Royal Enfield Flying Flea’ trademark name in India in 2020. It is valid up to February 2030. The name is registered in Europe as well. Could it be possible that there are plans to bring back the Flying Flea motorcycle of World War II era? It is difficult to tell, as OEMs often register names without any confirmation about their production plans.Royal Enfield Flying Flea 125ccLooking into history, one can see that Flying Flea was a 125cc motorcycle. It was manufactured to be used in the fight against the Nazis during later stages of World War II. Interestingly, the original concept for the bike was based on a German idea. But with a chain of events, the bike was reimagined as a 125cc unit to be manufactured by Royal Enfield.While its official name was WD/RE, the bike came to be popularly referred to as the Flying Flea. It was named as such, as the bike was designed to be airdropped by parachute. This was usually done beyond enemy lines. It was meant to be used by troops for reconnaissance and communications between various dispersed Airborne units. The communications part was an important task, as reliable radio communications were not available in those times.Royal Enfield Flying Flea trademark filedOriginal Royal Enfield Flying Flea weighed just 56 kg. It allowed the troops to carry it across difficult terrain. With a fuel tank of 1.5 gallon, the bike could travel 150 miles (~ 241 km) before refuelling. Top speed was around 35 to 40 miles per hour (~ 56 to 64 kmph). The engine had a low compression piston, allowing the bike to run even with poor quality fuel. The bike had special features such as folding foot pegs, horizontally rotating handlebar, tall seat and a leak-proof fuel tank lid. The exhaust has an expansion chamber to reduce the noise.Possibilities with Flying FleaA decade or two earlier, an ICE-based 125cc Royal Enfield motorcycle could have been a viable experiment. Considering the name, it is unlikely to be relevant for higher capacity bikes. Things have changed dramatically over the last few years, as there’s a greater push towards electrification. Emission norms are getting stricter every year, which is pushing up prices of ICE two-wheelers.In such a scenario, it is unlikely that Royal Enfield will be experimenting with a 125cc petrol bike. The best possibility could be an entry-level electric bike, with aesthetics similar to the original World War II bike. Royal Enfield is already working on its electric bike portfolio.
