New Renault Megane EV Spotted With Chennai Number Plates

New Renault Megane EV SpottedIn Europe, Renault Megane EV is equipped with a 220 hp E-Tech electric powertrain and offers a range of 285 miles (~460 km)
Renault will be introducing multiple new models in India including the new-gen Duster and its 7-seater version, Boreal SUV. 2026 Kwid EV has also been spotted on road tests. Latest sighting is that of Renault Megane E-Tech Electric in Chennai. Let’s check out the details.
Renault Megane EV – What’s brewing?
Last year too, the Renault Megane EV was spotted in India. At that time, sources had revealed that the vehicle was being used for internal testing. Renault Megane EV was launched in 2022, as the 5th-gen successor to the ICE-powered Megane. As of now, Megane EV is primarily targeted at European markets. The first-gen Renault Megane (ICE) was launched in 1995.
    New Renault Megane EV Spotted
At the time of launch of Megane EV, Renault was actually thinking about the possibility of introducing it in India. It would have arrived in India via the CBU route, with an expected price of around Rs 45 lakh. However, those plans apparently did not materialize.
With the Megane EV spotted once again in India, could things be different this time? It could be possible, as the government has revised its EV policy. One of the key changes is the reduction in import duty for EVs from 110% to 15%. This new EV policy has been introduced as the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI).
    New Renault Megane EV Spotted
Carmakers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Skoda, Hyundai and Kia have shown interest in participating in SPMEPCI. While not officially confirmed, Renault could be thinking about following a similar approach. Import duty reduction from 110% to 15% can be a major advantage for imported EVs in India.
    New Renault Megane EV Spotted
SPMEPCI is applicable for EVs that are priced above USD 35,000 or approx. Rs 30 lakh. Renault Megane EV fulfils this criterion, as the price in the UK starts at £32,495 (approx. Rs 37.88 lakh). However, there are various other conditions under SPMEPCI, which may or may not suit every carmaker. It is to note that India-EU trade talks are also underway and the outcome could impact Renault’s strategy for India.
Renault Megane EV – Powertrain, specs
Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is based on the CMF-EV platform. It is available with two front-wheel-drive electric motor options of 96 kW (130 hp) and 160 kW (220 hp). The 220 hp variant can achieve 0 to 100 km/h in around 7.4 seconds. Megane EV was originally launched with two battery pack options of 40 kWh and 60 kWh. However, most markets now have only the 60-kWh battery pack. As per WLTP standards, range is 285 miles (approx. 460 km).
When using a 150 kW DC public fast charger, Renault Megane EV can achieve 15%-80% charge in around 32 minutes. With a 22 kW AC public charger, the charging time is 4 hours 10 minutes. Megane EV can also be charged with a 7.4 kW AC home charging point, which takes around 6 hours to achieve 15% to 80% charge. Across Europe, Renault Megane EV takes on rivals such as Volkswagen ID.3, Peugeot e-308, Cupra Born, MG4 Electric, Hyundai Kona Electric (New-Gen) and Kia Niro EV. More

Renault Duster EV In The Works — Electric 4×4 SUV Could Arrive Post 2027

Renault DusterRenault is preparing to electrify one of its most popular SUVs, the Duster, as part of a broader transition towards sustainable mobility. While the Duster has long been known for its rugged, affordable appeal, the upcoming electric version aims to retain that very essence — including a potential go-anywhere 4×4 capability — in its next chapter.
Renault Duster EV In The Works
Globally, the Duster is sold under the Dacia brand, but in India, the model will continue to wear the Renault badge. New report from, Autocar reveals that the Duster EV could debut internationally after 2027 and reach India following that timeline, depending on market demand and infrastructure readiness.
The electric Duster will be built on the CMF-BEV platform, an EV-focused derivative of the CMF-B architecture already underpinning the ICE-powered Duster. This platform, developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, supports everything from compact city cars to midsize SUVs and will form the basis for Renault’s affordable EV push in the coming years.
One major highlight is that the CMF-BEV platform has now been confirmed to support a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. This means Renault can offer a 4×4 variant of the Duster EV, keeping true to its adventurous, outdoorsy DNA while meeting the performance expectations of Indian SUV buyers.
To Coexist With ICE Duster Beyond 2030
In global markets, the Duster EV will likely compete with rivals such as the Fiat Grande Panda 4×4 and Toyota’s upcoming compact Land Cruiser EV. If launched in India, it will take on potential future electric off-roaders in a segment that is still emerging.
Until the all-electric Duster arrives, the current third-generation Duster — launched globally at the end of 2024 — will continue to evolve. Later this year, Renault is expected to introduce a new range-topping hybrid 4×4 version of the Duster, which uses an electrified rear axle for all-wheel-drive capabilities. This hybrid variant could be a logical step for India too, given our growing acceptance of strong-hybrid technologies as a transition to full-electric vehicles. India launch of the new Duster is expected by early 2026.
The ICE-powered Duster is likely to continue beyond the end of this decade, with the electric version offered alongside it — similar to how Renault plans to position the Clio and the upcoming electric Renault 5 in Europe. This dual-approach allows the brand to maintain affordability while gradually shifting towards zero-emission mobility.
Production Synergies Likely to Keep Costs Competitive
In line with Renault’s strategy, the Duster EV will use common parts, manufacturing lines, and supplier networks to keep costs under control, helping it stay true to the Duster’s reputation for value. Renault has not confirmed whether the Duster EV will be manufactured in the same Indian facility as its ICE siblings, but the brand’s past practice of sharing production lines strongly suggests that a localised approach is likely.
While there is no official launch date yet, the Duster EV represents Renault’s ambition to offer rugged, affordable electric SUVs tailored for Indian conditions — and to keep the Duster legacy alive well into the electrified future. More

2026 Renault Kwid EV Spied Up Close – Tiago EV, Comet EV Rival

2026 Renault Kwid EVRenault India has been in hibernation mode as the company continues to sell Kwid, Triber and Kiger since the discontinuation of Captur in 2020 and Duster in 2022. Even the trail of Kiger EV went cold after that one test mule spotted without any camouflage. Renault has been updating its portfolio in India to keep it fresh with some editions and even CNG options.
The company is on the verge of launching a new Duster and Boreal in 2026 and Hybrid versions will follow later. In the meantime, there is one other vehicle with launch probability and that is Kwid EV. It has been spied testing in India multiple times and since 2024 and again recently. Let’s take a closer look.
    2026 Renault Kwid EV
    2026 Renault Kwid EV
Unlike the Kiger EV test mules that never made another appearance, looks like we’re more likely to see frequent Renault Kwid EV test mules here onwards. The last time Renault Kwid EV test mules made an appearance, it was strapped on top of a flatbed truck. The latest test mule is rolling on its own wheels.
Interestingly, these test mules get Red temporary registration plates from Tamil Nadu, which is where Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd operates from. Where design is concerned, upcoming Renault Kwid EV looks almost identical to Dacia Spring EV that is currently on sale in global markets.
Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring) – Rear
It has to be noted that Dacia Spring EV and Renault Kwid EV (name not confirmed) are badge engineered vehicles. For India, Renault Kwid EV might pack the same 26.8 kWh battery pack promising 220 km on a single charge or come up with an Indian version of this vehicle with localized components for cost effectiveness.
    What to expect?
As seen in these spy shots, we can see Renault Kwid EV’s rear right quarter. It is completely camouflaged and even has camouflage wrap stuck to its windows, which is interesting. Rear gets a windshield washer and wiper and parking sensors. Antenna is conventional type and not fancier shark fin type.
    Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring)
Because of its budget nature, Kwid EV does not get alloy wheels, but wheel covers are present. Side turn indicators are on ORVMs and hence they could be electrically operated as well. Door handles are of pull-up type, in-keeping with its budget bracketing. Front design will be fairly plain with LED DRLs and there will be side body cladding to lend that SUV look.
When launched, Renault Kwid EV will directly rival affordable EVs in India like Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV and Citroen eC3. One can expect a starting price tag of around Rs 7 lakh (Ex-sh). While the company has not confirmed it, Kwid EV might be launched in India by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

Renault Kwid EV Spied On Flatbed Truck – Launch In 2025?

New Renault Kwid EV Spied TestingRenault has been upping its game in the Indian automotive market. The company recently launched CNG retrofit kits on all of its vehicles for Rs 74,999, reaffirming its stance on green mobility. Now, we can see a much greener vehicle testing in India in the form of Kwid EV spied on top of a flatbed truck.
This is not the first time a Renault Kwid EV is spied testing in India. We saw one last year testing in India around August 2024 and it was a Dacia version which is sold as Spring EV. When launched in India, it will bear a Renault logo, similar to what the company did with Duster SUV, which is not launching in India in 2025.
New Renault Kwid EV Spied Testing
    Renault Kwid EV Spied
At the lower end of India’s electric car segment, we have offerings like MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. Where Comet EV is priced at Rs 7.36 without BaaS and Rs 4.99 lakh + Rs 2.9/km (Ex-sh) with BaaS, Tata Tiago EV is priced from Rs 7.99 lakh (Ex-sh). What if there was a new electric car without a battery rental program that costs well below 7 lakh (Ex-sh)?
That is an enticing proposition and Renault seems to be working to do just that. While the spy shots trail for Kiger EV seems to have hit a dead end, the only other road open is Kwid EV. This will be a rebadged Dacia Spring EV and it will bear a Reanult logo and even the Kwid EV name, owing to its already established brand recall.
New Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring) – Rear
The recent spy shots show a Renault Kwid EV test mule strapped on top of a flatbed pickup truck. If it was spied in Pune city, one could speculate that it is heading for ARAI certification. However, this particular test mule was spied near Chennai port in Tamil Nadu.
    What to expect?
Notable elements seen from these spy shots include rear tail lights, rear washer and wiper, steel wheels, and what looks like a shark-fin antenna. The camouflage used restricts the visibility of finer design details. When launched in India, it is likely to bear a 26.8 kWh battery pack promising up to 220 km of range on a single charge.
New Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring)
Propelling this vehicle is likely to be a single electric motor with up to 64 bhp of peak power. Features-wise, we can expect a new dashboard with EV-specific features like a fully digital TFT instrument cluster to clearly show battery stats and other elements. Launch date is not confirmed and one can expect it to launch after the Duster, Kiger facelift and Triber facelift sometime in 2026.

2024 Renault Kwid EV – Dacia Spring in EuropeThe exterior and interior updates with new Dacia Spring will make their way on new Renault Kwid EV as well (marketed as City K-ZE)The electric car segment is seeing a rather slower adoption when compared to electric 2W vehicles. This tasks manufacturers to thoroughly investigate the market before making any significant investments. But should Renault bring in the newly updated Dacia Spring as Kwid EV in India?2024 Renault Kwid EV RevealedRenault India is currently a three-vehicle chariot run by Kiger, Triber and Kwid. Renault has seen its glory days when it used to offer Duster. And the company is keen on rejuvenating its portfolio in India along with alliance partner Nissan. But is a small affordable Renault Kwid EV on the cards? We have seen Kiger EV under testing in India already.2024 Renault Kwid EVWe hope it is because the recently updated Dacia Spring EV is a very tempting proposition. Dacia Spring is a badge-engineered Renault City K-ZE (electric version of Kwid sold in India) and is Dacia’s first-ever electric offering. Depending on the market, Dacia has also sold a Cargo version of it called Dacia Spring Cargo. For 2024, Dacia Spring has been thoroughly redesigned with a more sophisticated overall appeal. Definitely more premium than before. For starters, this is not just a facelift. Instead, Dacia has done major revisions to sheet metal too, while overall car is close to its predecessor underneath.New Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring) – RearWe can see a new face with new Dacia logo. Sticking to Dacia family DNA, Spring gets similar styling elements as the new Duster. Interesting LED DRL elements flank the new Dacia logo, round projector headlights are housed below, in its bumpers. Bonnet creases and flared wheel arches lend some muscle to this dinky little car.2024 Renault Kwid EVMajor interior upgradeThere is an interesting white grill element around car’s number plate and the charging socket is on the front behind Dacia logo. Gone is Kwid’s boring dashboard and in comes a rather appealing and up-market unit with a free-standing 10.1-inch touchscreen touchscreen infotainment taking centre stage. There are Duster-inspired centre AC vents and a brand new auto climate control panel.New Renault Kwid EV (Dacia Spring) – InteriorsContrasting colours, new textures and elements lend an up-market appeal when compared to current Dacia Spring, Renault City K-ZE or Kwid ICE. ADAS features and driver monitoring are in the house owing to European requirements. Powertrain options include a sole 26.8 kWh battery promising a claimed range of more than 220 km on a single charge.Despite being an EV, new Dacia Spring (new Renault Kwid EV) weighs under a tonne. 984 kg to be precise. Renault’s Roaring Roadmap: 6-9 Launches with an Electric Car

Renault Kwid EVShaping the Future: Renault’s Ambitious 6-9 Vehicle Launch Strategy. Big Focus on Small Electric CarFor a long time, Renault has been in a defensive position in Indian automotive market. If we take a look at July 2023 car sales, Renault sold 3,607 units with its portfolio of three vehicles. Said three vehicles are Kwid, Kiger and Triber. Renault’s sales halved YoY and decreased by 33.82% MoM in July 2023.The company is working on introducing EVs to its portfolio. A recent publication mentions a senior Renault executive indicating a potential launch of a small EV in 2024/2025. If we take a look at global markets, a rebadged Dacia Spring with Renault branding fits the bill perfectly.Renault’s Electrification Charge: Dacia Spring version for IndiaSimilar to Dacia Duster, we might see Dacia Spring in India with Renault branding. Considering that Kwid already has a brand recall in India, Kwid EV name makes a lot of sense. Dacia Spring gets Kwid’s underpinnings. It packs a 26.8 kWh Li-ion battery and promises a WLTP certified range of 225 km from a single charge. There is just one electric motor in the vehicle delivering 45 bhp of power and 125 Nm of torque. When launched in India, it will go head-to-head with MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV. As of now, MG Comet is the most affordable electric car in India and it packs a 17.3 kWh battery promising 230 km of range from a single charge. Launch might be scheduled in 2024. Pricing would play a grand role in Renault India’s EV step-up.How CMF-A Platform Powers Renault’s Electric VisionWe have covered test mules of Kiger EV before. There’s the Rs. 5300 Crore investment between Renault India and Nissan Motor that will aid in bringing in new cars. Renault’s MD Venkatram Mamillapalle said the company intends to launch between 6-9 new vehicles in India within the next few years. Likely between 2024 and 2026.This plan includes mid-life updates to current models in 2024 and new B-segment SUVs owing to their immense popularity. New variations of existing vehicles could imply Nissan’s Triber counterpart as one such derivative. Alongside, EVs are of significance.Said EVs will get CMF-A platform. As with Renault’s approach, localisation is a key focus area. And to start with the company aims for 55-60% localisation in the beginning.Source More
