Okinawa Cruiser Electric Scooter And Motorcycle Launch in 2021

    Okinawa Cruiser Electric Scooter
Upon its launch, Okinawa Cruiser will rival the likes of Bajaj Chetak, BGauss B8 and Ather 450X

Gurugram-based electric scooter manufacturer, Okinawa has announced that it will be launching its flagship maxi-scooter- Cruiser in India next year. Okinawa Cruiser made its maiden appearance earlier this year at the Auto Expo in February. The company, however, has not revealed any exact timeline of its launch.
The e-scooter was earlier slated to be launched this year but like many other automobile launches, was postponed due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus. If it weren’t for the pandemic, the e-scooter would have been at markets by now.
    Design & Features
Cruiser’s primary highlights are its design which, as mentioned before, follows the language of a maxi scooter. For instance, it sports a bold front apron housing a large LED headlamp and turn indicators. It gets a slightly pulled-back handlebar and cruiser-like forward-set footpegs which would make for a comfortable ride position. The interesting bit is the front floor-bed and footrests belong to two different levels.
Long and sweeping rear panels incorporate a large stepped seat. Being a premium offering, it is also laced with a bunch of tech gizmos such as an anti-theft alarm, find my scooter function, keyless ignition system, USB port, mobile charging, motor walking assistance and a whole lot more.

    Powertrain & Dynamics
Coming to its powertrain, Cruiser is powered by a 3kW electric motor which is propelled by a 4kWh lithium-ion battery. It claims a single-charge range of 120 km and a top speed of 100 kmph. Okinawa had earlier claimed that the battery pack can be juiced up fully within 2-3 hours. The company will also provide a high-speed DC charging function as a part of the package.
The electric Maxi scooter rides on 14-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with disc brakes on both ends. Its suspension setup gets conventional telescopic forks at front and dual shock absorbers at rear. As per some reports, the e-scooter is expected to arrive at the Indian market around third quarter of next fiscal year. One can expect it to be priced more than Rs 1.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
    Okinawa Oki100
    Other launches- Oki100
Apart from Cruiser, Okinawa is also looking to introduce its first electric motorcycle offering Oki100 next year. A pre-production concept was showcased at the AutoExpo earlier this year. The bike will come with fair share of technology including app-based telematics, connected vehicle technology and more. It will lock horns with Revolt 400, the only other electric motorcycle in sale in India.
Other than developing new products, Okinawa is also looking to expand its footprint in India by increasing its dealership count to 500 by the end of this fiscal year. Currently, the brand has 350 dealer outlets across the country. the company also recently announced the discontinuation of scooters running on lead-acetate batteries.

Okinawa Scooters which specializes in pure electric products has announced that it has discontinued its lead-acid battery pack based models. With this move, the company’s portfolio now consists of only products equipped with detachable lithium-ion battery packs.
Lead-Acid battery packs on the decline
With lithium-ion battery packs widely considered to be superior to lead-acid units in terms of performance, more and more customers are willing to make that extra investment. All modern day scooters which are getting launched now, are powered by the advanced lithium-ion battery packs.
Moreover, with the Indian government’s FAME-II subsidy covering only lithium-ion battery pack equipped scooters, their popularity rose sharply in the recent times. So, for a major e-scooter manufacturer like Okinawa, focusing on lithium-ion models is the right way to prepare for India’s upcoming EV boom.
Okinawa Electric Scooters kick started its operations four years ago with lead-acid models and has sold over 34,000 units of them. However, since the introduction of scooters with removable lithium-ion battery packs, the customer preference inclined towards the newer models so much so that the company has now decided to pull the plug on lead-acid batteries. Below are the Okinawa electric scooters which are now on offer from 1st Dec 2020, and their prices and range.

With a range of 139 km on a full charge, the flagship Okinawa i-Praise+ emerges as a compelling proposition. The e-scooter gets LED headlamps and DRLs, USB charging port, smartphone connectivity, digital instrument console, regenerative braking and so on.
The stylish Okinawa i-Praise+ is priced at INR 1.09 lakh (Ex-showroom). It competes with the likes of TVS iQube, Ather 450 and Bajaj Chetak. We could see more and more electric scooter brands shifting from lead-acid to lithium-ion battery technology in the foreseeable future. More

  • Okinawa Electric Scooter Bookings Offer Rs 6k Gift Voucher – Sales Grow Expected

    Okinawa Electric Scooter
Festive offers announced for full range of Okinawa electric two wheelers

As with festive seasons, it’s raining offers. Today, Okinawa announced season offers, and there’s a lucky draw. This means around 10 buyers will get assured gifts, and the first one stands a chance to take home the slow speed R30 scooter. The offer is valid from October 24, 2020 to November 15, 2020. The lucky draw will be announced on November 30, 2020.
Each customer twill receive assured gifts on every booking. Buyers also get a gift voucher worth Rs 6,000 for all bookings, online or in-store. Those opting for online booking get the same access to a vehicle as in-store, so one can go ahead and select custom theme painted scooters, and all current offers.
Jeetender Sharma- MD, Okinawa said, “Due to pandemic, a lot of industries faced slowdown including automobile. However, after lockdown got lifted, we received an overwhelming response from our customers.”
This is being attributed to the fact that folks are now opting for personal vehicles for daily commute so they can maintain physical distancing protocols, as well as have a reliable mode of transport as public transportation isn’t yet upto scratch. And there’s always the risk owing to inability of being able to maintain distance and stay safe.
    Okinawa Electric Scooter Festive Offers
    Expected sales
Okinawa sales is expected to grow 40 percent during the 2020 festive season, in part, owing to increased awareness about electric vehicles among buyers. It’s prudent now to set sales targets and go about achieving them considering the electric vehicle market is still a tiny one in India.
The number of manufacturers who do business in this space has been rapidly increasing in recent years. This is made the space rather interesting because buyers can choose from relatively new companies to names they’ve been familiar with for decades.
Range anxiety in the sector isn’t just limited to battery charging and ride range but also the fact that most manufacturers offer very few vehicles on sale. As such, the sector is mostly dominated by scooters, either in a speed or high speed. While electric motor cycles would seem interesting, currently only revolt offers such vehicles.
This makes the electric scooter segment a highly competitive one and the sector is dominated by Hero Electric. 2020 has been strange for business but newfound need for a personal vehicle means the smaller slow speed electric scooters, which don’t require driving license are also part of the conversation now.
    Okinawa sales in 2020
Unsurprisingly, high-speed electric scooter sales for the first half of the current financial year have contracted. However as business normalcy returns, electric scooter manufacturers are upbeat. In the last six months, Okinawa reported sales of 1836 units. While that number isn’t large, it’s enough to secure the manufacturer second spot in a segment that sees Hero Electric leading. Recovery expectation would mean the manufacturer will be able to mitigate the whopping 64% decline it was reported in the last six months. More
