2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Gives the SUV More Street Cred

Toyota is adding a TRD Sport model to the 2022 4Runner SUV’s lineup. It’s available with either rear- or four-wheel drive and rides on 20-inch wheels, has a hood scoop, and Toyota’s hydraulically linked adaptive dampers. They’ll be on sale at the end of this summer. The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is adding a street-focused TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Sport model to its lineup, which has been available on the Tacoma mid-size pickup, but it’s not really all that sporty. It will be available by the end of the summer, but those who want more off-road-capable 4Runners can still select either the TRD Off Road or TRD Pro models.
The 4Runner TRD Sport looks a lot like the more luxurious Limited model, and it rides on the same 20-inch wheels but with dark gray accents. It’ll slot in just over the SR5 base model in the 4Runner’s lineup, and it’s available with either rear- or four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case just like the Limited. TRD Sports add a TRD hood scoop, front spoiler, body-color trim, and black roof rails. And TRD Sport badges are placed on the C-pillars.

The new 4Runner variant will have synthetic leather seats instead of cloth (Limited models get leather seats), and the headrests have embroidered TRD logos. The front seats are heated, and there’s a TRD shifter and TRD Sport floor mats. Every 4Runner comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa capability. All 4Runners are powered by a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that makes 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The body-on-frame SUVs have a coil-spring rear suspension, but TRD Sport models get Toyota’s X-REAS adaptive dampers (also standard on the Limited) that are hydraulically linked at opposing corners to reduce pitch and roll. The 4Runner can tow 5000 pounds.
We expect that the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport’s starting price will fall between the rear-wheel-drive SR5 model’s $37,940 and the Limited’s $46,845 starting price. There should be plenty of color choices available, too, since the Tacoma TRD Sport is available in nine colors including Voodoo Blue and Army Green.

TVS Motor May 2021 Sales Decline MoM – Apache, Jupiter, Ntorq, iQube

Image – Vlogger Satyam GuptaTVS recorded more exports than domestic sales for the month of May 2021 due to stricter curbs and lockdowns across the country
With the country grappling with the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, business in every sector was adversely affected. The story of the auto industry was no different with restrictions across the country impacting production as well as sales of vehicles. Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company registered cumulative sales of 166,889 units in May 2021.
In comparison, the company sold 69,008 units in the month of May 2020 while in April this year, the Hosur-based bikemaker recorded total sales of 2,38,983 units. This resulted in YoY growth of 141.84 percent and an MoM decline of 30.17 percent. These numbers include two-wheelers and three-wheelers sold both in domestic and overseas markets.
    Two-Wheeler Sales
Total two-wheelers stood at 154,416 units in May 2021 as against sales of 56,218 units in May last year. Out of these numbers, motorcycles accounted for 125,188 units in May 2021 in comparison to 26,772 units in May 2020. Best sellers in the motorcycle segment included the Apache range.
Whereas, scooters registered 19,627 units in May 2021 as against sales of 16,120 units in May 2020. Domestic two-wheelers registered 52,084 units in May 2021 while the figures stood at 41,067 units in May last year. Scooter sales featured Jupiter, Ntorq, iQube among top sellers.
TVS Sales May 2021 vs April 2021 (MoM)
    Three-Wheeler Sales
A total of 12,473 three-wheelers were sold last month out of which only 131 units accounted for domestic sales while the rest were shipped overseas. This resulted in MoM and YoY decline of 68.20 percent and 99.85 percent respectively on domestic sales.
The company’s total domestic figure stood at 52,215 units which resulted in over 60 percent decline in both MoM and YoY sales. In comparison, a total of 114,674 units were shipped overseas which translated to a massive YoY growth of 547.62 percent.
    Two-Wheeler Exports
TVS also sold a total of 9,601 mopeds inclusive of domestic and exports last month. In comparison, 27,753 units of mopeds were sold in April this year and 13,326 units of mopeds were retailed in May last year. This translated to a decline in MoM and YoY sales by 60.36 percent and 27.95 percent. A total of 102,332 units of two-wheelers were exported to overseas markets last month which resulted in the exact same MoM and YoY growths of 7.94 percent.
TVS Sales May 2021 vs May 2020 (YoY)
It is clear from the figures that exports boosted the sales figures of TVS Motor for last month. This primarily due to lockdowns imposed in most states across the country. The Hosur-based manufacturer currently retails fourteen products in India which include eight motorcycles, four scooters, one moped and one electric scooter. More

Yamaha 250cc Motorcycles FZ 25 And FZS 25 Price Cut By Up To 18k

Image – Being TechnozzIn India, Yamaha FZ25 and FZS25 compete against the likes of Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Dominar 250, KTM 250 Duke and Husqvarna 250 siblings
While automakers in the country have been going on increasing the prices of their products due to rising input costs in recent months, Yamaha has been able to pull off something rare and amazing. The Japanese bikemaker has slashed down the prices of its quarter-litre naked streetfighters FZ25 and FZS25 by up to Rs 18,000.
    Revised Prices
As per the latest price revision, FZ25 and its premium sibling FZS25 have been priced at Rs. 1,34,800 and Rs.1,39,300 (both prices ex-showroom) respectively. This makes them nearly Rs 18,000 cheaper in comparison to their previous recorded prices. The reduced prices have made the 250cc naked street racers a much more compelling offering to consider.
Despite the sharp fall in prices, Yamaha has not changed the specifications or features of the motorcycle duo. With a drastic slash in prices, FZ25 and FZS25 are a full Rs 29,000 – Rs 33,000 and Rs 32,000 – Rs 36,000 more affordable than its direct rivals Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Bajaj Dominar 250 respectively.
Going higher in the quarter-litre class of naked bikes, the Yamaha 250cc siblings are Rs 70,000 cheaper than Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 and almost Rs 80,000 cheaper than KTM 250 Duke.
Yamaha FZ25 Price Cut India – May 2021 Price List
In fact, the revised prices put them in the same price bracket as many of the 200cc naked sports commuters. For example, segment leaders such as Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (dual-channel ABS trim) are priced at Rs.1,35,742 and Rs.1,33,188 (both prices are ex-showroom). While Honda Hornet is powered by a smaller capacity engine, it is still considered to be a 200cc motorcycle with its prices pegged at Rs. 1,31,127 (ex-showroom).
No change in specs & features
Both FZ25 and FZS25 are powered by a 249cc, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine that returns an output of 20.5 bhp at 8,000rpm and 20.1Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. This unit is linked to a 5-speed gearbox.
Hardware configurations of the bike comprise front telescopic forks and a rear mono-shock which carry out suspension duties on the bike. Braking hardware consists of single disc brakes at both ends which are assisted by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
Standard features offered on the quarter-litre FZ range include an LED headlight, LED DRLs, negative LCD instrument cluster, side stand with engine cut-off switch and engine underbelly cowling. The premium FZS model benefits from additional features such as brush guards on the handle grips, a long visor and golden coloured alloy rims. More

    Upcoming Launches
Bajaj Auto is keen to enhance its market share and is actively testing the new Pulsar 250cc which is slated to launch in the coming months. Most details are still unknown as test models were under camouflage. On launch, the Pulsar 250cc could be priced lower as compared to the Dominar 250, at around Rs.1.5 lakh and will compete with the Suzuki Gixxer 250 in our market. More

2022 Honda CBR250R Digitally Rendered As Adventure Sports-Tourer

2022 Honda CBR250R ADV Sports Tourer – RenderThis rendered version could be a challenger to the upcoming Yamaha Tracer 250
Launched way back in 2011, Honda CBR250R was once a popular bike in its segment. However, it received limited updates over the years. With time, newer products with better features started gaining customer attention. Some names include the likes of KTM RC 200, TVS Apache RR310 and Suzuki Gixxer SF250.
Honda CBR250R was discontinued last year, as it was not updated to comply with BS6 emission norms. However, the motorcycle still enjoys a niche fan following. And it’s fairly possible that there would be a number of customers who want CBR250R to be re-launched.
Automotive artist ‘Abin Designs’ certainly seems to meet the criteria. Abin Designs has come up with a digital rendering of CBR250R in adventure sports-tourer format. Based on its features, the bike could also qualify as an Adv.
    Honda CBR250R sports-tourer key features
This sports-tourer version of CBR250R looks a lot more aggressive. The various components that have been updated include the headlight and LED DRLs. Below the headlights, we can see a couple of winglets. The bike has been equipped with a large windshield, which should provide adequate protection. Other changes include a tube-type handlebar and knuckle guards.
2022 Honda CBR250R ADV Sports Tourer – Render
Talking about ergonomics, the bike offers a relaxed, upright riding stance. The foot pegs are almost perpendicular to the seat. Even CBR250R offered comfortable rides, but this sports-tourer version appears to be more relaxed. In terms of functional improvements, the bike gets USD forks at the front in golden shade, radially mounted brake calliper and a new rotor. Ground clearance also appears to have been increased.
2022 Honda CBR250R ADV Sports Tourer – Render
    Honda CBR250R engine
Honda CBR250R was powered by a 249.6cc liquid-cooled motor that was capable of generating 26 bhp of max power and 22.9 Nm of max torque. It was mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The digitally rendered sports-tourer version could be using the same engine in its updated BS6 format.
It could get new features such as LCD display and assist and slipper clutch. The latter comes handy during various situations such as quick down-shifting, rapid up-shifting and when negotiating tough corners. Dual-channel ABS would be offered as standard.
2022 Honda CBR250R ADV Sports Tourer – Render
When launching an updated product, OEMs have to consider various factors such as market dynamics, customer preferences, rival products, pricing, etc. Something that looks good on paper may not necessarily be viable from a business perspective.
But when evaluated purely from a design perspective, this sports-tourer version of Honda CBR250R certainly deserves attention. The sports tourer / adventure segment has been witnessing strong growth and this motorcycle seems a perfect fit in this space.

2023 Kia Sportage to Officially Debut in July with a New Design

Kia has released three teaser images of the upcoming redesigned Sportage. The new model will debut in July and should reach the U.S. market in 2022 for the 2023 model year.We expect it to offer a hybrid powertrain for the first time. We’ve already gotten an idea of what the next Kia Sportage will look like, and now Kia has shared some teaser images showing the exterior and interior of the new version of its compact SUV. The company also confirmed that the Sportage will make its global debut in July, meaning it should reach the U.S. market early in 2022 as a 2023 model.

    Kia

The front end looks to have an interesting lighting setup, while the rear end is shapely and has taillights that look similar to the new EV6 electric car’s. Kia’s new logo is, of course, prominently displayed up front. The interior features a huge screen setup that appears to span nearly the entire width of the dashboard; we think it’s likely that there will be separate digital gauge cluster and infotainment screens connected by a single piece of glass.

    Kia

Kia has not yet shared any info about the Sportage’s powertrains, but we expect them to mirror the related 2022 Hyundai Tucson’s offerings. That means a 2.5-liter inline-four as the base engine and a hybrid drivetrain with a turbo 1.6-liter inline-four as an option. The Kia may offer a more powerful turbo-four as well, in keeping with the current SX model.Look for more info to come soon on the new global version of the Sportage, and U.S. specs to be shared later on this year.

Graveyard of Rusted Cars Kept Lake Michigan Erosion at Bay, and They're Still There

It was a different time, a time when you could just shove huge hunks of metal off the edge of your property and onto the Lake Michigan beach below. This is what residents in Saint Joseph, Michigan did in the 1960s, after trying other bulky items in the ’40s and ’50s, as they tried to stop the erosion wearing away their homes. The state put a stop to the practice, but the rusted cars are still there today. Desperate times call for loud, gravity-based measures. Saint Joseph, Michigan, in the late 1960s experienced just such a time, and the physical effects of local citizens’ desperate measures found a home on the Lake Michigan shoreline. There, when conditions are right, the rusted remains of hundreds of automobiles can be seen piled up on the beach even today, as this video from TV station WZZM shows:
This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Now overgrown, this “car graveyard” has been common knowledge in the area for decades, but it’s not a popular tourist destination. It was created out of necessity, when homeowners on the bluff above started rolling old cars down the hill as a way to try to prevent the lake from eroding the land their homes sat on.

Water levels were high in 1967, the year the first cars were turned into a breakwall, according to local TV news station WZZM. Erosion under the homes became a thing after the city of Saint Joseph built piers along the city’s main channel and out into the lake. The piers redirected the lake’s natural current toward the 50-foot bluff, which then eroded over time. As the bluff kept disappearing into the water, larger and larger items were sent to their final resting place through the 1940s and 1950s. The problem, of course, is that these home-brewed efforts just kept redirecting the current, local historian Nathan Voytovick told WZZM.”All that did was push the problem to the neighbor next door,” Voytovick said. “The people began panicking. They began chucking debris, anything that they could find, over the bluff to stop the waves. Washing machines, dryers, beds and even cars were tossed over the edge.”Saint Joseph resident Carl Kuyat was the first to push a car over the edge, and Voytovick said more than 150 cars ended up on the shore. Other put the number at closer to 230 cars, but however many made the fall, they’re still there today.
This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The video above, posted to YouTube by Ruin Road in 2017, gives some up-close views of the hunks of metal, plus other debris, like a child’s tricycle and concrete chunks, that were used to stop the erosion. It also shows how plants have now made their own homes in the pile. When water levels in Lake Michigan are low, the rusted frames and ruined tires look easy to access, but there are signs warning people not to attempt to climb down from above.

A 2020 video report by the South Bend Tribune (St. Joseph is near the Michigan-Indiana border) showed how recent erosion exposed the mess to the lake’s waters once again. The video says “it is unknown if fluids were drained from the cars,” but we have our guesses.
