Top 10 Motorcycles May 2021 – Splendor, Pulsar, Apache, CB Shine

Image – Yo RidersTop 10 motorcycle sales reported a MoM de-growth of 52.48 percent in May 2021
The current pandemic situation in the country has made both MoM and YoY sales comparisons rather difficult. The sudden announcements of lockdowns, a skewed economy and poor buyer sentiments have caused much upheaval in the entire automobile segment. A YoY assessment is highly biased as May 20 was just 2 months after the pandemic first hit and May 21 saw the pandemic in its second wave.
A MoM sales comparison has also seen that the two wheeler segment has a long way to go before it can see any sort of recovery. Taking only motorcycle sales into account, every model in the top 10 segment has noted de-growth with the exception of the TVS Sport which showed only marginal MoM growth of 0.51 percent. April 21 sales were somewhat better as top 10 motorcycle sales stood at 5,45,143 units, but dipped to 2,59,028 units in May 21.
Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe – 50% share in Top 10
In May 2021, Hero Splendor continued to rule the segment and was the only bike to record sales above the 1 lakh unit mark. Splendor sales stood at 1,00,435 units in May 21, down 48.10 percent over 1,93,508 units sold in April 21. The Hero Splendor enjoys a market share of 38.77 percent.
Hero HF Deluxe and Bajaj Pulsar posted de-growth to the extent of 40.92 percent and 40.49 percent respectively and sales failed to even cross the 50,000 unit mark. HF Deluxe sales stood at 42,118 units in May 21, down from 71,294 units sold in April 21 while Pulsar sales which had stood at 66,586 units in April 21 dipped to 39,625 units in the past month.
    Top 10 Motorcycles May 2021
TVS Apache was at No.4 on the list of best-selling motorcycles in May 21. Sales which had stood at 29,458 units in April 21, dipped to 19,885 units in May 21. This was a 32.50 percent de-growth MoM. TVS Motor Co is now set to introduce the new 2021 Apache RR310 in India. The launch of this bike was set for April 21 but has been delayed due to the current pandemic situation.

Philippines Customs Crushed a McLaren 620R, $1.2 Million in Cars

Bureau of Customs PH / Facebook

Yes, that is a McLaren 620R being crushed by a backhoe. This display of destruction is the latest in an oddly long lineage of spectacular public crushing of illegally imported cars. In this case, the Bureau of Customs in the Philippines crushed a total of $1.2 million in cars over two separate incidents. One featured 14 Mitsubishi Jeeps, while the other starred seven cars headlined by the McLaren.

This particular crushing is part of a lasting campaign to crack down on illegal car importation, an issue apparently very close to the heart of Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte. He ordered a similar crushing in 2018, an event that involved a tractor driving over a startling $8 million of cars in a monster-truck-like exhibition of punishment. This particular crushing is less destructive, but there is something particularly cruel about smashing the roof of each car individually for the sole purpose of destroying something.

Bureau of Customs PH / Facebook

That is the point, of course. All the smashing is meant to discourage importation by showing that the end result for anyone who tries is a car crushed in front of them for the whole world to see.
This content is imported from Facebook. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The Philippines Bureau of Customs notes that the crushing also involved the destruction of a Lotus, a Bentley, a 911, an SLK, a Genesis coupe, and, somehow, a Solara convertible. But the track-focused 620R is by far the most rare thing crushed. Just 350 were produced, and the loss of this one means that number is down even further.

Workhorse Sues USPS over $6 Billion Oshkosh Mail Truck Deal

If you thought the seven-year search for new U.S. Postal Service mail trucks was over, think again. There were three companies bidding for the massive contract, and one of them, Workhorse, now says a court should look into whether the deal was conducted fairly and whether the government didn’t seriously consider its all-electric options including the Workhorse prototype pictured above. The public details remain a bit vague, given the secrecy of the contract bids and other non-disclosure agreements. In February, the U.S. Postal Service awarded a deal for up to 165,000 new mail trucks worth up to $6 billion to defense contractor Oshkosh. The search for new delivery vehicles took the USPS around seven years, and once the Internet learned what the quirky new van would look like, much merriment ensued. Not everyone was happy, though. Workhorse, formerly known as Amp Electric Vehicles, was one of two other contractors bidding for the USPS contract (the other was Karsan). This week, Workhorse sued the postal service over the terms of the deal, especially whether or not the mail carrier ever seriously considered Workhorse’s electric vehicles as suitable replacements for the Grumman “Long Life Vehicles” that are commonly seen delivering mail today.

Workhorse’s lawsuit—the version that the public can see, anyway—is vague, as the company said the revealing all of the contract information would release details about its bid for the contract and the company’s EVs that would be helpful to competitors. Alongside the court filing, Workhorse issued a media statement that said Workhorse representatives met with the USPS in early March to “discuss the award and further specifics of the USPS selection process,” but that the details of the meeting “cannot be disclosed at this time.”Nonetheless, we can get a feel for what the issue is based on anonymous sources who have spoken to the Washington Post, and it seems to all come down to the level of electrification the USPS is actually interested in. The February announcement included language about EVs but also made clear that gas-powered mail trucks would still be part of the USPS. Workhorse insiders told the Post that they believe the USPS didn’t seriously consider Workhorse’s bid, in part because it leaned so heavily on electric vehicles. Embattled USPS postmaster general Louis DeJoy said after the Oshkosh announcement that only around 10 percent of the trucks the postal service will buy will be electrified. Workhorse is asking the court for a preliminary injunction to halt the procurement process for Oshkosh’s mail trucks until the decision is reviewed. It also reportedly claims that the USPS did not fully evaluate an all-electric prototype from Oshkosh.

“The allegations are that basically that [the Postal Service] never planned to seriously consider Workhorse and they put their thumb on the scale to select against Workhorse,” a source told the Post. The USPS and Oshkosh are not commenting on the lawsuit, and Workhorse said it is “unable to provide any further information with respect to this matter currently but will provide updates when appropriate and as permitted under its non-disclosure agreement as part of the USPS [Next-Generation Delivery Vehicle] program.”Oskhosh has said in other instances that the ability to swap out the gas-powered powertrain in its new trucks for all-electric versions was a selling point to the USPS, even though it told the SEC last November that is basically an electric-powertrain amateur: “While we are continuing to explore options to offer more propulsion choices in our products, such as electric-powered vehicles or mobile equipment, with lower emissions, this may require us to spend additional funds on product research and development and implementation costs and subject us to the risk that our competitors may respond to these pressures in a manner that gives them a competitive advantage,” the company wrote at the time.Whatever trucks the USPS purchases to replace its current fleet, they will be a massive upgrade. The LLVs currently in use were all built between 1987 and 1994 and were supposed to be retired after, at most, 24 years. All of the trucks are older than that at this point, but mail carriers might need to drive them for a few more miles before new trucks arrive.

2021 Yamaha RayZR Debuts With Bluetooth, Hybrid Assist – More Mileage

2021 Yamaha RayZR Street Rally Hybrid AssistPrices of the updated Yamaha RayZR and Fascino 125 Fi will be announced later at the time of launch
Yamaha recently grabbed the limelight by introducing the new FZ-X bike which adopts a new-retro styling. Not only this but the Japanese bikemaker has also updated its scooter lineup comprising Fascino 125 Fi and RayZR. We have already covered Fascino and the updates in RayZR are on similar lines as its sibling.
    Updated Features
Like Fascino 125 Fi, RayZR will now be offered Bluetooth connectivity as an option. This makes it possible for the rider to connect the scooter’s instrument console with his/her smartphone via Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app. It provides access to plenty of information on the display of the scooter such as call and text alerts.
On the flip side, the rider can get remote access to information about the vehicle such as Locate my Vehicle, Riding History, Parking Record and Hazard through his/her phone. Other than this, the updated RayZR also gets an updated apron-mounted LED headlight. The scooter carries forward tall-set DRLs and a tinted fly-screen at the front end from the older model.
    New Hybrid Technology
However, the most important addition to its equipment is a Hybrid-assist system to its powertrain. It performs the same functions in RayZR as it does in Fascino. This hybrid setup features a new Smart Motor Generator (SMG) System which acts as an electric motor to give a power assist when one accelerates from a stop.
    2021 Yamaha RayZR Hybrid Assist
Therefore it reduces insecurity caused by the wobble during start-outs or uphill climbs. The power assist system is cancelled three seconds after starting or when the throttle is cut back or the engine rpm exceeds the prescribed level. Power output remains similar while fuel efficiency / mileage has been increased by up to 16%.
    Upgraded Cosmetics
In terms of design, RayZR is very much similar to the previous model barring subtle styling tweaks which include new colour options and a pair of knuckle guards on handlebar. It continues to be offered in two variants- standard and Street Rally edition, the latter comes with updated body graphics and decals.
The new paint schemes include Reddish Yellow Cocktail, Racing Blue, Cyan Blue, Matte Red Metallic and Metallic Black in the standard variant. Whereas the top-spec Street Rally trim is offered in Matte Green and Matte Orange options.
    2021 Yamaha RayZR Hybrid Assist
As far as specs go, it is identical to the updated Fascino FI. It is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that returns an output of 8.2 bhp and 10.3 Nm of peak torque. Hardware configurations also stay put with a suspension setup comprising telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at rear. On the other hand, braking is carried out by a disc brake at front and drum brake at rear with CBS as standard. More

    KTM India Sales, Exports May 2021 – Duke, RC 125, 200, 250, 390 ADV

KTM IndiaKTM range of motorcycles under 400cc are locally manufactured by Bajaj Auto at their facility in Chakan near Pune
With most states across the country under full or partial lockdowns for a major part of last month, automotive sales took a serious beating. KTM also had to bear the same brunt with both domestic sales and exports plummeting drastically due to disruptions caused due to the pandemic in production as well as sales.
    Domestic Sales
KTM was able to sell only 943 units of its motorcycles in the domestic market in May this year, in comparison to 4,522 units sold in April. This translates to a drop in MoM growth by 79.15 percent. The list was headed by the 200 series of KTM bikes which registered 375 units in May as opposed to 1,410 units sold the previous month.
This resulted in MoM degrowth of 73.40 percent. The company retails Duke and RC branded bikes in the 200 series in India. This was followed by the 125 series which accounted for 28.74 percent of total KTM domestic sales in May. The company sold 271 units of 125cc motorcycles last month which included Duke 125 and RC 125 as opposed to 1,172 units sold in April this year. This translated to a negative MoM growth of 76.88 percent.
The 250 series comprises Duke and Adventure range of bikes and recorded sales of 168 units last month. In comparison, the Austrian brand sold 1,089 units in April which resulted in a decline of MoM sales by 84.57 percent.
KTM India Sales and Exports April 2021
The bikemaker sold 129 units of its 390 series motorcycles in May as compared to 851 units in April this year thus translating to a negative MoM growth of 84.84 percent. The 390 series in India comprises all three models- Duke, Adventure and RC.
    Export Figures Low As Well
Numbers weren’t encouraging in the exports section as well, however, they did outnumber the domestic figure. KTM shipped a total of 9,290 units of its motorcycles from India to overseas markets in May. This is still less in comparison to 12,477 units exported the previous month. This resulted in a drop in MoM sales figures by 25.54 percent.
At 3,888 units, the 390 series accounted for the most exports last month. In comparison, KTM shipped 5,563 units of the 390 series abroad in April this year which translates to an MoM decline of 30.11 percent. The company exported 2,290 units of the 200cc bikes as compared to 3,685 units shipped in April this year. This translates to an MoM decline of 37.86 percent.
KTM India exported 1,978 units of the entry-level 125cc bikes in May 2021 as compared to 2,316 units shipped previous month. This accounted for an MoM degrowth of 14.59 percent. The 250 series was the only range that witnessed a positive MoM growth of 24.21 percent last month. KTM dispatched 1,134 units of the quarter-litre motorcycles in May and 913 units in April this year. More
